Bank Holiday Monday Madness!
Another day, another full set of domestic footie fixtures. I'm not sure if anyone else will be around today but I'm posting this thread in order to squeeze every last drop out of the holiday period. We start with Boro v. Leicester. That's followed by the regular 10am fixtures, including my beloved Leeds hosting lowly Rotherham in a must-win for us. We end up at the end of the day with the Hammers v. United. Join me if you're still on break, eh?

Happy Bank Holiday Monday, you LOBers. It’s 15th v 16th in the Premier League in a round of fixtures that take place about 48 minutes after the last round of Premier League fixtures . And you know what? It could be pretty tasty.
The teams coming out of the tunnel at the Riverside:
Middlesbrough: Guzan, Fabio da Silva, Chambers, Gibson, Barragan, Forshaw, de Roon, Clayton, Traore, Negredo, Ramirez. Subs: Konstantopoulos, Friend, Bernardo, Leadbitter, Rhodes, Stuani, Downing.
Leicester: Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs, Mahrez, King, Amartey, Mendy, Okazaki, Ulloa. Subs: Hernandez, Chilwell, Musa, Albrighton, Zieler, Gray, Wasilewski.
Referee: Robert (Bobby) Madley (West Yorkshire)
Good morning , Bob. I'm joining you for my last match of the holidays. I will be around for about three fourths of the match
They're off from the Riverside
And we're away at the Riverside, both sides playing in their traditional kits.
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board. I appreciate the effort, as you're no doubt getting prepared for the school day.
Just why has Leicester been so poor on the road this season? Which players should we blame? Vardy? Mahrez? The departed Kante? There's certainly a lot to good around.
It's a pleasure joining you. It's a work day , so it should be an easy day. The students arrive back tomorrow.
Traore as usual in the main danger for Riverside, running at Christian Fuchs on the right.
I remember those prep days well, mate. I hope it's a relatively relaxing one.
The majority of the problem is the departure of Kante , who truly has not been replaced. Mahrez, Vardy, and Captain Morgan are to blame as well.
Danny Simpson is caught out of position and Gaston Ramirez is through, but Captain Morgan is back to make sure everything is safe aboard the ship as Gaston runs the ball out of play.
Fuchs did well to work his way into a shooting opportunity but then shanked his shot well wide.
OH!!! Just wide by Fuchs .The recalled Mahrez won the ball in midfield, went on a run. Okazaki picked out Fuchs, who shot just wide.
Mahrez buys a free kick in a decent area. He'll no doubt line this one up.
Amarty wins a free kick just outside the Boro box.
Into the wall by Mahrez.
Poor one from Mahrez right into the wall at waist height.
You will be excited to read that the Melbourne Victory lived up to their name with a 4-2 victory over the Newcastle Jets , who will feel like flying away.
Ben Gibson, heads out a cross from Danny Simpson for a Foxes corner.
A poor corner from Mahrez is cleared as Amarty and De Roon were doing the Fox trot.
The interesting thing about this relegation battle is that, while Hull, Sunderland and Swansea are clearly poor teams, there isn't one team that has been completely cut adrift. All have a dozen or more points as of New Year's, so that means that teams like Boro and Leicester will have to look over their shoulders.
Naughty by Clayton on Okazaki. What is that all about?
I would add the slumping Hornets , whom I picked in August for that very reason. I think these two will be safe, especially the Foxes due to their home form
Fred is resting up after brekkies ahead of a very difficult match vs Liverpool.
Trader appears to bring down Traore right on the edge of the box but Bobby Madely isn't impressed. It seemed clumsy at best.
At first I thought it was a penalty, but after looking at the replay , Bobby Madley got it right as Adama Traore ran into Huth.
Why if I ran into Huth There would be a large hole in the ground.
Also, Burnley if their home form starts to decline.
Traore goes down the right past King and De Roon , like our Roon fins Row Q
He'll need all of the rest he can get - The Black Cats will be lucky to get a point today.
The Boro fans can sense their side are starting to warm to this game.
Mahrez picks up another useful free kick now. Will he take this one or leave it to someone who gives a fig?
Mahrez goes down after a solo run and Adam Clayton in typical fashion, with a clumsy foul.
Andy King seems to fancy a blast. At least on target but straight down the channel of Big Brad.
Andy King takes instead and finds the huge gut of Brad Guzan.
What is Adam Clayton thinking? where did he learn tackling? The Citeh Academy? ER? The Terriers? All of the Above?
Gaston Ramirez talks himself into the book because he feels Bobby Madeley isn't giving the decisions his side's way. I think the ref has been correct so far.
Seven bookings is a lot for an attacking player and I'm sure he's not a regular at Gooner's travel Agency.
De Roon runs into Mendy and the home fans can try to intimidate Madley all they want, but their players are over running the ball.
Ironic cheers as Fuchs is called for hand ball and Leo Ulloa has words for the linesman.
Negredo volleys the free kick from Ben Gibson in to the side netting from a really difficult angle.
CRICKEY! No shots on target today for Boro and not more than four on target in a single match this season. That sounds like relegation form.
Baragan is down with an injured hammy as he stretched , going for the ball, as it took him out of play.
Oh dear - the hammy has gone for Baragan. That's the risk of all of these games piled up on each other. He'll have to be replaced.
His day is over and Barragan is replaced by George Friend.
Friend comes on to replace Baaragan. And the fullbacks will switch sides.
Agreed. It's a tradition though. Right, mate?
Adama Traore goes on a solo run and a cross goes halfway to Sunderland instead of two wide open players,
The latest news is that Jurgen Klopp will attempt to sign Leipzig midfield player, Emil Forsberg. That would be a huge loss for Leipzig.
It is a tradition, yes. Many have proposed a Winter Break for the Premiership, but the English punters love their holiday footie. And so do I!
It would be, indeed. Forsberg has been excellent for the over-performing Leipzig.
The Real Dons vs the Real Evil Lions has just kicked off.
De Roon has a long range effort come off of Negredo for a goal kick.
Nice move from Boro but de Roon's shot cannons off Negredo and goes out for a goal kick.
Oh - excellent tackle there when Mahrez was bearing down on Guzan. Fabio did really well.
Superb last ditch tackle by Fabio on MAhrez, who had just Guzan to beat.
Mahrez was too much of a ball hog and he was eventually tackled by Gibson then the Foxes win the ball back and Mahrez has a tame effort straight to Guzan.
Cynical tug back by Chambers - into the book for that.
Callum Chambers is booked for a foul from behind on Mahrez after Andy King tackled Adama Traore.
Not exactly the most sparkling match for you to end your break with, mate. Apologies.
BUGGER!!!! The Real Evil Lions take a really early lead at the Real Dons.
No probs, mate.My expectations weren't too high. I think the best match will be the late one between the Hammers and United.
Two minutes of stoppage time.
The Gooner mentioned people, who survived the cull of 2016. Elizabeth's mother needs to be added to the list. She asked for me not to mention on FB.
WAY HAY !!! The Real Dons tie it up vs the Real Evil Lions.
Peep peep from Referee Madley. Not a great example of holiday footie in the Prem. 0-0.
It's 0-0 at the half at the Riverside.
All the best to Elizabeth and her mum for 2017.
Agreed. Bobby Madley has been the MOTM.
Cheers, mate. We will definitely need it. Thanks.
They’re showing a collection of Adama Traore highlights and lowlights. When he beats a man he is so jaw-droppingly quick he gives himself almost too much time to consider his cross. If he had just half a yard he’d have a marker to bend the ball around. He’s actually too fast. If he ever slows down, he’ll be very, very good.
Morning Boys
I was awake earlier and all of a sudden it was 8:30!
Apparently I missed nothing
Leicester get us back underway. No changes to either side at the interval. Just that enforced change of Friend for Barragan so far.
Morning, UWS - you missed nowt. But welcome, nonetheless.
The second half is underway from The Riverside.
Good morning, UWS. Thanks for joining me the last few minutes of my vacation. Bob is correct that you missed nothing
Boy George Friend with Boro's first shot on target, straight at Kasper then Adama Traore wins Boro's first corner of the match
The corner from Ramirez is headed out as is his return cross.
I feel for you but at least you don't have kids today
I am so depressed about tomorrow!!
A bright start here from Boro in this second half.
I'm looking forward to my classes this next semester - two graduate seminars, one in research methods and another in classroom discipline.
I have to leave in a few minutes. Will it even be worth recording the match?
NO
Wishing you the best, Dave,. I hope you had a great break. Sounds like some interesting classes, Bob.
Oh - the ball was fizzed across the area but no Fox was attacking it.
I was thinking the same.
Cheerio, MUR - best of luck with getting back into the groove this week.
Andy King well wide with a long range effort off a poor clearance.
What does your discipline class say to do when kids swear at you, do anything they like and the administration do nothing!
So frustrating and depressing
Thanks, Bob. I appreciate it. A long day today because I will be attending a memorial service this evening for our principal's mum, who passed away last Tuesday.
I feel your pain, UWS. I have the same questions. Your perspective teachers face some massive challenges.
Back to the footer.... Are you confident about your lot today Bob?
Tough issues, UWS. I don't think that there is any one answer to those questions, mate. I had some classes early on in my career that were untouchable. I could have stood on my head and it wouldn't have made a difference.
But I try to give my students a range of different options from behaviorism to logical consequences to more democratic modes - and I hope it helps.
Hope so
Yeah - we need three points today against bottom of the table Rotherham at home. Might pick up some territory on some other sides who have more difficult opposition.
I'm off to work. It has been chatting and I will see if I can chip in with a few odd comments. CHEERS!
Boro are still very much on top here but with Negredo misreading the few crosses that have come his way the home side just don’t look like scoring. Leicester are choosing to do nothing.
Cheerio, mate!
Take care Dave
I have TimeWarner Cable on my laptop so I hope to watch that Goal zone channel for the 10 o'clockers
Off to the loo
I'll be back
Okazaki has been replaced by Damari Gray, who often plays this role.
Ahmed Musa has also come on for the woeful Riyad Mahrez. What has happened to him?
Last roll of the dice for Karanka now.
Stuart Downing has ten minutes to try to win this one for Boro. It would be a vital three points for either side.
Oh - Gaston Ramirez had to score there! Desperate shot wide.
Im back after the throne and some errands
Missed nothing again
Not a lot, mate. Not a lot. Into stoppage time now.
Boro have had 63% possession but created next to nothing. They look solid, of course, but they’ll need to start scoring soon to make sure they avoid being dragged into the filthy business of a relegation scrap. As for Leicester, I have no idea what they think they're doing this season. The most woeful title challenge ever.
Shoot the damn ball Leicester!!!
Route 1 time for Boro now.
Ramirez goes to ground appealing for a pen. Referee Madley waves it on.
Leeds were rotten in their title defense
I don't think they won away from home either
Another chance for Leicester...clueless!
Oh - nearly there for the Foxes.
One last chance for the champions now.
City have one more chance with a free kick
They don't seem to get themselves going after some big wins ore comebacks
Last chance saloon... get it in the box!
Still toothless
All over nil nil
Comes to nothing. A dismal 0-0 draw to start the Bank Holiday. Off to the shower.
Hello lads. LOL!!! I just arrived at work to find out that I did not miss anything.
Silva, Aguero and Stones all on the bench for City
Not sure which game I am going to watch. None really get the juices flowing! I will probably be taking Shadow at some point
Hate all these managers complaining the hectic schedule.... bloody foreigners.
Just play the games. The NBA play night after night after night with a lot of running.
When other countries have winter breaks, they go on tour some of the time.
Clubs do that at the end of the season too. I thought players were knackered...no lets go to the Far East to make some money
Shadow is at me...looks like I am going to have to miss the start of the matches!!
I'm back for the 10 am kickoffs now. I think I'll watch Liverpool v. Sunderland.
The teams out on the pitch at the Stadium of Light:
Sunderland: Mannone, Love, O’Shea, Djilobodji, Van Aanholt, Larsson, Ndong, Rodwell, Januzaj, Defoe, Borini.
Subs: Khazri, Mika, Manquillo, Maja, Honeyman, Embleton, Ledger.
Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Milner, Can, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Mane, Firmino, Sturridge.
Subs: Karius, Moreno, Lucas, Origi, Stewart, Ejaria, Alexander-Arnold.
Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire)
Liverpool get us underway wearing a suspicious dark strip.
Throw Shadow out in the backyard!
Jurgen Klopp makes just one change for Liverpool, bringing in Daniel Sturridge instead of Jordan Henderson (Lallana moves back into midfield), prompting some bemusement from Liverpool fans on Twitter, who think he should have rotated in the face of such feeble opposition.
Of course my eye is permanently on the news out of Elland Road. I hope we can get an early goal to settle the crowd's expectations.
League One result: AFC Wimbledon and Wimbledon drew 2-2 in the early kick-off in the third tier. Millwall go seventh, behind Southend on goal difference. Wimbledon move to 11th.
Oh - Rodwell should have been in there for a free header from Larsson's free kick. Completely missed his chance but was flagged offside anyway.
Decently opening ten minutes for Sunderland. And as I type that Sturridge finds himself free in the Sunderland box and is only stopped by Mannone.
Mannone saves against from Origi.
That's a warning to Sunderland. All the solid possession play can be undone in a second or two of sloppiness at the back.
Kelechi Iheanacho, Yaya Toure and Raheem Sterling all spurn decent shooting opportunities in quick succession as Manchester City put Burnley under the cosh in the early stages of their game at the Etihad.
Saints full-back Cedric has been forced off with a nasty gash in his head after cracking it off an advertising hoarding or metal chair adjacent to same at Goodison Park. He’s replaced by Jack Stephens.
Another Premiership injury: Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a 19-year-old Everton midfielder, has been forced off with injury and been replaced by Kevin Mirallas.
Another nice shot by Sturridge - Mannone was equal to it.
No goals as of yet in the 10am kickoffs in the first twenty minutes!!
Oh - Larsson with nearly an own goal there from the pressure from Lallana.
GOAL! This time Sturridge beats Mannone!
A poacher's goal there, with Sturridge lurking on the goal=line waiting to see what would come from that corner.
0-1 Liverpool!
Sunderland have a penalty - my stars!!!!
Bit of a sandwich between Wijnaldum and Klavan there.
Defoe to step up for this one....
He makes no mistake!! 1-1!
I am back as Defoe equalizes from the spot
HOW DID DEFOE NOT SCORE THERE!!!!!!!!!!
Derby losing at Carrow Road
Oh - Defoe was in again there. Nearly there for Borini as Mignolet saved.
Welcome back, mate - how was the walkies!
Hull City have been bossing West Brom on their own patch and have now made their dominance count. Robert Snodgrass sidefoots home an Ahmed Elmohamady cross after good play from Jake Livermore.
Loving that Derby scoreline.
Chilly
Phone link doesn't seem to be working. I have the Goal Rush channel on my computer. They are at the same match but with a different commentators and scores along the bottom some of the time. It is also a bit behind
Ballhog Defoe is now on double figures alongside Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku.
The link is not for SS but for the Rovers Toon match
Fernandinho has been shown a straight red vs Burnley
I noticed that - I'm satisfying myself with updates from The Guardian site.
Would be great for City and Pool to drop points today
Then Spurs to beat Chelsea...and of course a Man U win at West Ham
BTW, this is the first of the return fixtures of the season and the ones that aren't too far apart from each other
QPR have taken the lead at home to Ipswich.
I like this Goal Rush on my computer
You should do that too
Surely a draw between Spurs and Chelski is better for your lot, no? Spurs are your main competition for that last CL slot.
Goal Rush?
Did you ever download Fotmob for updates? Didn't I do that for you when you were here?
Just looked on Fotmob and both Cambridge and Pompey up 1-0 at home
Apparently Fernandinho's victim has had to go off for treatment - sounds like a XXX challenge.
Bristol City beating Reading 1-0
Now we need a Wigan goal and of course from the white team in Yorkshire
They did show it.
Two footed
it is the first one of the extra channels in the 400s. 420 I think
They show one match but go to others
Just headed off to Goodison to show Sotton hit the crossbar and then back to SoL
FotMob?
This first half has raced along, hasn't it? Still no goals at Elland Road, alas. We need a win today, no doubt.
Notlob?
Mane playing for Pool today before the ACN but Baiily wasn't allowed to play for United today
That's unfair
The Fotmob App. I think you have it already. I downloaded it for you
It updates scores on your phone
Half time at SoL
I'll take that score... but Liverpool will win it
my computer link for Goal Rush is about 30 seconds behind
Love to see City drop points today!!
Goal Rush showing all the matches highlights
Sure looks like City will still win
Just waves and waves of attacks
Lee Mason, same ref as from Old Trafford, gave the Red
I guess it was but it is becoming a real wimpy sport
Hull still winning at half time
Could they escape?
I don't want them on form right now, United play them in the League Cup semi in about a week
Scoreless at Elland Road
They have to get their fingers out!!!
An hour and forty-five minutes of goal zone today... there's only been three goals so far!!!
They are really going to have to stretch some stuff out!
Teams out for the second half
Some changes made.
Moreno on for Milner
That must be an injury
We're back on at the Stadium of Light, then. Sunderland about to get us underway. They ran Pool pretty hard in that first half.
Over 46,000 at SoL
Poor entertainment for the punters, for sure.
If both Sunderland and Hull get something today, Swansea are in real trouble.
I want to hear MoT out loud!!!
I think they are already
Palace would be in trouble too
West Brom have equalized
Bristol City have double their lead against Jap's chaps
Are they thinking of Old Trafford already?
Lovely jubbly! Bristol City have doubled their lead over Reading.
YES!!!!
Leeds take the lead!!!
FOTMOB just told me...you're ignoring me about having it
47th minute goal
Ipswich equalize at Loftus Road
Where did you go... did you score the goal at ER?
