Saturday's Alright for Footie
Welcome to the weekend, chaps. We start early as usual with Spurs trying to keep up the pace at the top with their home match against Watford. That's followed by the usual 10am EST kickoffs, including Citeh hosting Hull and Liverpool at Stoke. I'll be running off to an open house event over on campus during that one. However, for those of you around this afternoon, you'll be able to see the late one, Bournemouth v. Chelski. Pour yourself a nice cuppa and join me from 7:30am onward.
477 Comments:
Spurs fans will be buoyed by the news that Harry Kane will start today on the bench, a much quicker return from injury than expected.
Good morning, Bob. I'm up to join you for all the action from the Lane.
The teams coming out at Shite Fart Lane now:
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Son, Alli, Eriksen, Janssen. Subs: Walker, Kane, Wanyama, Nkoudou, Sissoko, Wimmer, Pau Lopez.
Watford: Gomes, Janmaat, Cathcart, Mariappa, Holebas, Amrabat, Doucoure, Cleverley, Niang, Okaka, Success. Subs: Deeney, Zuniga, Kabasele, Capoue, Pantilimon, Mason, Eleftheriou.
Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire)
Got a pot brewing.
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board this morning. How was your week?
Thanks, Bob. It was quit e a hectic week . How was your week?
They're off from sunny SFL in a local derby.
And we're underway at Shite Fart Lane. Peter Drury and Jim Beglin on the mics. Both sides in their traditional kits.
Peer Dreary is announcing as his beloved Hornets are playing.
Mine, too, mate - it's a relief to hit the weekend and to have a bit of time to put my feet up. Still quite cold here, with a bit of snow on the ground from yesterday.
That was an odd early corner routine, Erickson chipping a loose ball to Vertonghen on the edge of the box.
Silly foul by Janssen on the edge of the Spurs box and Watford have a chance for an early surprise.
It was hot earlier this week, but closer to average the past few days. It's supposed to warm up again tomorrow. Hope it's the same for you soon.
Holabas puts it on goal with pace but Lloris was able to pluck it out.
The free kick from Cholevas is curled straight to Lloris.
I hope so, too. I'm usually able to get the bike tooled up over Spring Break but it's been far too cold this year for that nonsense.
Nice idea from Clev trying to find Holabas who was offside. Watford have started well here, though. They don't seem overawed.
Number One Son has a pass deflect off the outside off the outside of the post for a corner then LLoris punches away under pressure from Okaka.
Gomes saves from Janssen , who was through. Well done by Gomes Addams on his return to Drury Lane.
An end to end start in this derby match on a sunny afternoon.
Trippier trips Niang,.
Morning Boys
How are you guys?
So glad it is the weekend... four more days until spring break!!
Craig Cathcart, the former United trainee is snatches the free kick wide at the far post since Verts failed to deal with it.
Good morning, UWS. Congratulations on nearing Spring Break.I have a four day weekend next weekend. How have you been?
Everyone thinks this is a home banker... Watford look dangerous
Morning, UWS - doing just fine. enjoy your break, mate.
They do, indeed. I could see Watford getting a result here.
Everything is okay just school gets me down. The amount of crap that I have to deal with is ridiculous and people say you have to understand what the kids go thru at home. That's not okay to be able to abuse me!
Janssen is just not getting the job done; he'll be subbed early for Kane in the second half.
Sorry to hear that, mate - you don't deserve it after all of these years of service. You used to really enjoy joking around with the kids at your old school. Not any more, eh?
nope.
That's why I probably will retire earlier rather than later IF I can afford it!
4 more years
I feel the same way as UWS. I have given eighteen years of service to the same school and this is how they show their appreciation. Thankfully, only two more years after this year.
HOW DID JANSSEN MISS THAT ONE!!!
OH!!! Off the underside of the bar from Vinny Janssen
Bloody hell - two big chances for Janssen that my granny could have scored.
Hits him on the inner thigh!!
Did you all see Hornets boss, Walter Mattzarri, get into it with one of his assistants in midweek? He was none too pleased when the interviewer brought it up.
BOTH our United's better win this weekend!!!!!
Talking about education, I was surprised but delighted to read yesterday that funding of vouchers in the Texas House failed by a vote of 103-46. WOW ! That's it for a while.
Agreed. Bob will be delighted to stick it to his former owner's side.
They were saying earlier that Jesse Lingard just signed a new contract that has him making £100,000 a week. A hundred grand a week! How on earth is such an ordinary player worth that much!!
High and wide by Eriksen to end a great possession.
I agree. He has shown signs of brilliance here and there, but is far from being our star player.
Glad to hear it, mate. I was just reading a really scary article about the effect of new Open Carry laws on the UT Austin campus and other campuses in Texas. So, I'm happy to hear that they're sensible about the voucher issue.
Mariappa heads away a cross from Dier in his first Prem match for the Hornets in a decade.
Ben Davies has a rocket of a shot blocked by Ben Davies on what was an original corner.
Totally agree with you about Lingard. Thats the problem with this United side. Lingard would have been a fringe player in the Fergie sides not what he is in the one
I'm surprised to hear that because many Texas campuses are banning guns on campus as is just about every high school despite earlier predictions to the contrary. Many voters are telling their legislators to abandon political ideology once it involves their own kid. That is true with guns on high school campuses where all of a sudden parents want guns banned on high school campuses.
Spurs fans giving Harry Kane a nice ovation just for getting up and trotting down the line for a bit of a warm-up.
It's a sign of how United have declined the past few years.
The Seagulls won 1-2 at QPR yesterday, despite Matty Smith scoring a consolation goal for QPR. The Seagulls are much closer to promotion.
Gomes Addams easily saves from Eriksen on his return to SFL.
GOAL! Dele Alli pulls one right out of the top drawer!!
GOAL!!!!
Dele Alli with sweet goal
GOAL !!!! DELLE ALLI GIVES THE SPUDS THE LEAD.
Referee Taylor did well to wave play on after a clear foul. The ball found it's way to Alli who bent a delicious curler into the top right corner.
1-0 Spuds!
The gap is now FOUR
What a comeback from Spurs on Wednesday!!
That's 16 goals for Alli now - Frank Lampard like numbers for a midfielder.
The move started in the Spuds box. Then Dembele passed to Alli despite being fouled by Okore. Alli played a one two with Number One Son then scored with a superb curler in the upper 90.Okore was booked for the foul
Success was a failure in attempting to win a penalty with that horrible flop.
It was a great comeback in South Wales with three goals at the end of the match. Definitely Lamps like numbers and the Ginja Ninja for Delle Alli.
GOAL !!!DIER PUTS THE SPUDS TWO UP.
Dier... TWO NIL
Why can't these blokes finish like that for England !!!
I was with my Study Hall class yesterday with the young teacher who's classroom it is. She knew that I grew up in England and she told me that her and her boyfriend are going down to Red Bull Arena to see THE TottehHAM HotspurS play Roma. Her boyfriend is a fan. I had to do it.... I gave her a hard time and she hopefully won't make the same mistake
I said there is NEVER a THE a the beginning! It isn't HotspurS but it is Spurs!!
Yanks!!
A long possession culminated in Number One Son cutting inside Janmaat and his deflected pass found Dier, whose rocket of s hot went past Gomes Addams.
Great question, UWS!
Ruddy Norah....THREE NIL
GOAL! Son with a ripper from 20 yards!
Spuds are 3-0 up!
GOAL !!! NUMBER ONE SON SCORES A LONG RANGE ROCKET IN THE CORNER TO PUT THE SPUDS THREE UP.
Watford were looking really good in the opening ten minutes - now they've been hit for three in the first half. Oh dear.
A minute of stoppage time as the Hornets have been stung.
The Spuds are three up at the half.
Half time
How many of these can you get?
Love Sporcle
https://www.sporcle.com/games/skuban/team-by-graph
I got them all
I got the second version all right too
The second half is underway from sunny SFL.
Off at the Lane
Back on for the second half. This one appear to be over - not sure what Walter Mazzari can pull out of his sleeve.
Dembele has a shot deflected for a corner.
Janssen heads well over off a cross from Dembele from a pass from a short corner.
Watford break... again... a modern day cross
I want you guys to try that quiz...please
Back from the bog to see that I did not miss a goal, but to see Vertonghen run out of steam on a one hundred yard solo run.
Vertonghen tries to run the whole pitch... but he does his best Devon Loch impersonation... very apt for Grand National Day
FOUR NIL!!!
They are good
GOAL! Son at the double!
Spuds 4-0 up!
Wish United would create and finishes chances like this
GOAL !!! NUMBER ONE SON PUTS THE SPUDS FOUR UP WITH HIS SECOND GOAL OF THE MATCH
Another move that started from the back . Eriksen found Trippier , whose cross was superbly volleyed in by Number One Son with a rocket of a finish
I know - they're making Gooners mad here.
Cometh the hour....
Juan Zuniga is on for Doukorre
Kane about to come on... Not sure I would do that!
Just give him a bit more of a rest... he is back almost a month earlier then expected... no need to risk it
Steve is with you?
Nope - he's in Alexandria - I just meant in general.
How will Leicester do tomorrow at Goodison?
They have won 6 in a row and have already won in the Cup at Goodison.....but.... will Shakespeare write the same story as Claudio and rest some players for the Champions League?
I agree, UWS - no need to give him a run out today. They've won this in spades.
Coventry City will be relegated to the bottom tier if they lose today....they will be the first inaugural Premier League side to drop that low
Are you guys ignoring me?
Will you try the Sporcle quiz?
Talksport just said that Leeds' opponents today are the most inform side.... uh oh
32,000 expected at Elland Road... great numbers
I only got half. I guess the morning coffee hasn't kick in.
Dele Alli acting like a little boy
Please grow up
The Tangerines and Pompey are former Prem sides in the bottom tier, but inaugural sides. A sad decline for the sky blues./
Poor showing MUR!!
Very disappointed with you
Troy Deeney on for Amrabat. Too little too late?
Sorry. I know I should have done better.
Yup
Bradford too. Probably more
Surprised that Oldham haven't dropped all the way down
They were one of the originals... WON THE LEAGUE FOR UNITED!!! Three straight wins and survived the drop and push Palace down...poor Steve Coppelll
Bob hasn't even tried!
Ridsdale's evil lads were around fifteenth, but now up to eighth. A late push for the playoffs for PNE? Hopefully not.
Brighton will be the 48th club to make the Premier League... that is a pretty good turnaround in 25 years
Oldham have been in the third tier since 1997. That's twenty consecutive season's in the same division. A weird stat! Forgot about Bradford.
Bagel Time!
It sure is. It shows that it's an inclusive league and if you're good enough then you will make it regardless of your resources.
Cissy, as usual , on as a sub. This time for Dembele.
I wonder if I can retest?
I will when I have a chance.
I'd love to see Hull surprise everyone at the Etihad today....Bravo starting in goal... just shoot Hull and you'll score
Okay
OH!!! Harry Kane just failed to make contact on a great cross from Trippier. Should have headed it in,
Fortune favors the Bravo?
Kate is celebrating her mother's 70th birthday today.
Nice one, mate!
Wishing Kate's mum a very Happy birthday on what is a fantastic milestone.
Say Happy Birthday from us
Matt's 21st Birthday tomorrow
We have a game against RPI tomorrow afternoon so I will be missing the end of the late match tomorrow
Supposed to go to Yale in a couple of weeks time too
Cheers, mate. Are you saying Bravo, well done?
Oh - nearly a hat-trick for Son there.
Son.... misses a hat-trick chance!!
what a numpty
I am - you're on a roll.
OH!!! Number One Son was through, thinking he had a hat-trick, but Gomes Addams turned hi shot around the post.
Matt's 21! Crikey - are you gonna buy him a pint of Guinness?
Wishing Matt a very Happy Birthday and a victory against RPI , who hopefully will be RIPped!
Agreed or even a Sam since Yale is in the NE region!
Son hits the bar... doesn't he want to get his third?
OH!!! Off the top of the bar from Number One Son off a pass from Trippier, who has been given the freedom of SFL.
Kabesele on for Okaka. Damage limitation for the Hornets?
I know, I can't believe he is 21... Jonathan will be 19 on May 25... my youngest being NINETEEN???? STUNNING
The Hornets are successful in winning a corner off of Trippier.
Son is coming off...that's mean of MoPo not letting him get a hat-trick
Son goes off to a hero's ovation for his brace today.
Number One Son will not get a hat-trick as he's replaced by young Josh Onomah. He did have his chances.
Or did he take him off for him to get an ovation
Bob and Kate hosting the Tractor Boyz today. Will that interfere with the birthday festivities?
Could be. who knows what brews in the mind of Mo Po?
Three minutes of stoppage time and the amount of time Sparky will need to wait for walkies.
Cathcart blocks Kane and is hurt for his troubles.
Oh - Kane rattles one off the bar!
And that's the last kick of the match. Spuds settle on 4-0. Four points behind Chelski.
Kane with a free kick with the last kick of the game... off the bar!!!
What a shot!
It was the last kick of the match!
Spurs looking really good
I am off for walkies... I will be back for the 3 o'clockers
The Free kick from Harry Kane skims the bar and that's that as the Spuds thrash the Hornets 4-0.
Off to the shower before the 10am kickoffs.
Time to take Sparky walkies.
Back after my shower for the main kickoffs, including Leeds' home match with PNE. After two losses on the trot, we need a big, big win today. MOT!
Just back from walkies...it's bloody freezing!!
Anyway, a couple of interesting facts I heard about Liverpool
Liverpool's Mane out for the season with a knee injury suffered in the Merseyside derby.... Liverpool haven't won a single game without him all season long!
In the 87th minute at the Liberty Stadium, Spurs losing and Liverpool winning... sides are equal on points! One goal for Bournemouth and SEVEN from Spurs later.... Spurs are EIGHT points ahead of Liverpool
Cold but sunny here, too. 37F. I'm looking forward to a walk over to campus in about an hour.
Back for the 10 Amers. Walked Sparky, fed Sparky, fed Sunshine.
Mild and partly sunny here this morning.
We're about to kick off at the Etihad and across the country.
Here's the team news:
Man City: Bravo, Jesus Navas, Stones, Kolarov, Clichy, Toure, Delph, Sterling, Silva, Sane, Aguero.
Subs: Kompany, Zabaleta, Fernando, Nolito, Caballero, De Bruyne, Iheanacho.
Hull City: Jakupovic, Elabdellaoui, Ranocchia, Dawson, Robertson, N’Diaye, Elmohamady, Markovic, Evandro, Grosicki, Niasse.
Subs: Davies, Meyler, Hernandez, Maloney, Diomande, Henriksen, Marshall.
Referee: Jonathan Moss (County Durham)
We are off at the Etihad... come on Hull
This has got to be a chance for Sergio Aguero to fill his boots. He's on 15 goals - I'd like a hat-trick please to put him back in contention for the Golden Boot.
You're going to the campus and missing Leeds?
GOAL !!!! NO! Shaquiri has a goal disallowed for offside.
Hull is hovering just above the relegation zone. They could use a draw today.
Looking at the replay, Shaq looked about a yard offside, but it was a great finish.
I have Stoke vs Pool on PL Goal Rush and the Hammers vs the Swans on PL Extra Time.
BEIN showing Motorcycle racing????
Oh - great double save there by Yakupovic from Silva and Sane!
Xherdan Shaqiri looks to have put Stoke ahead against Liverpool, but the flag goes up for offside.
The one problem with watching Goal Rush is that it's not HD
Great double save by Jakupovic from Aguero and Sane.
In the Championship, Barnsley have gone ahead against relegation threatened Blackburn and Nelson Oliveira has put the Canaries 1-0 up at Carrow Road against Reading.
I've never tried it.
That is true. The advantage is that you can see all the goals.
That's great news from CR.
Just went on Bob's account
Forest and Huddersfield are on 5
Gary Rowett's Rams have taken the lead at the Blue Noses, the club he left
Not on 5 but 3
Gary Rowett's new Derby County outfit are back at Brum and 0-1 up.
Just switched and have the matches on NBCSN and the goal rush
Thanks for the tip, mate - I'm happy watching Citeh v. Hull.
Bob will probably be rooting for Forest
Forest REALLY need to beat the Terriers today... they are so close to the drop zone
Villa take the lead at Richard Burton.
Barnsley two up at Blackburn
Blackburn already two down at home...they are in worse shape than Forest
A bit nasty from Fab Delph - he didn't learn that at ER.
Barnsley are 2-0 up over Blackburn.
Colchester take the lead vs Stevenage. Good news for Pompey?
Of course, United want Hull to get something there and Palace to get something at Selhurst on Monday
Can't believe United still have a shot with all the points they have dropped
Evandro wins a Tigers corner.
Very good news for Pompey
I need a goal for Leeds - come on, you Whites!
Scunny take the lead vs BOlton in a L1 promotion six pointer.
Now bright and sunny in Harlingen.
Sterling is clueless wit the ball
UWs will be delighted that Pompey have taken the lead vs Yeovil
Hull look good going forward.
Norwich two up vs Reading
The Canaries two up vs the Reading Railroad. Bob will be pleased.
Forest almost score...saved off the line
