Wahay! It's Footer Time!
After a very busy first week back on campus, it's a real pleasure to settle in to watch some of the good stuff this morning. It's a tale of the two Manchesters this morning. We start with Citeh, who travel to the south coast to meet Bournemouth. I often forget that Bournemouth are still in the Premier League - how about you? At the end of the day, we've got table-topping United versus enigmatic Leicester City. Join me here on the LOB for all the fun.
300 Comments:
Teams in the tunnel now:
Bournemouth (3-5-2) Begovic; S Cook, Ake, Mings; A Smith, Gosling, Surman, Arter, Daniels; King, Defoe.
Substitutes: Boruc, B Smith, Fraser, Ibe, L Cook, Mousset, Afobe.
Manchester City (4-1-2-3) Ederson; Danilo, Kompany, Otamendi, Mendy; Fernandinho; De Bruyne, D Silva; B Silva, Jesus, Sterling.
Substitutes: Bravo, Stones, Mangala, Sane, Delph, Toure, Aguero.
Referee Mike Dean.
Citeh start this one in 5th, just outside the CL slots, while Bournemouth are hovering around the drop zone in 16th.
Bournemouth get us underway in Dorset - both teams in their traditional colors thankfully. Jon Champion and that dirty old man David Pleat on the mics today.
Bournemouth with an early corner, which is cleared out by Fernandinho.
Lovely play from Bournemouth. King loses his man with a slick turn near the halfway line, plays it down the right to Smith and backs up the play. Smith cuts the ball back towards King, whose first-time strike from 15 yards is blocked.
Good morning, Bob. Here to join you for footer time.
Citeh haven't gotten into this one. They're just fouling at this point. Otamendi getting close to a booking now.
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board. How are you, mate?
This has been a fine start from Bournemouth, who have had more of the ball and look sharp in and out of possession.
I saw that nice counter by the Cherries that culminated in an economical pass by Adam Smith that led to a shot from Dafoe that was blocked.
We're less than 10 minutes in and Pleat has already used the word "throbbing" in his commentary. He'll never change.
Cheers, Bob. Great to join you . glad to hear about that start from the Cherries. Citeh had the same problem vs the Cherries on Monday
Agreed. What does he mean by companions.
How is Hurricane Harvey affecting you there in Harlingen? Any problems?
Apparently, the "companions" are "throbbing" with "vitality."
GOAL! The Cherries have struck first through country bandleader Charlie Daniels!!!!
GOAL !!! POSSIBLE THE GOAL OF THE SEASON. TYRONE MINGS PLAYED A BALL OUT WIDE TO THE LEFTY TO RYAN GOSLING. HIS CROSS WAS HEADED AWAY THEN CHARLIE DANIELS SCORED A SCREAMER FROM A VERY NARROW ANGLE THAT LANDED IN THE UPPER 90.
The devil certainly went down to Dorset this morning and Daniels hit a rocket of a shot straight into the upper 90. Ederson had no chance.
That goal from Charlie Daniels has made Pep feel like drinking some Jack.
Mings tackles Jesus for a corner that Otamendi shoots well wide off the corner from De Bruyne.
LOL, Bob. That's certainly am accurate description.
We did not suffer any damage from Harvey. Just a little rain and a bit breezy, but that was it. Melanie, up in San Marcos , will see some of Harvey this weekend possibly through Monday. They are expecting flooding in the area . Monday is supposed to be her first day of classes, but that has been postponed until Tuesday. She made the marching band and practice has been cancelled today.
First shot on goal by Citeh - a tame effort from Sterling.
Ederson Superbly saved a close range volley from Dafoe off a cross from Ryan Gosling then Adam Smith shot the rebound wide against Wealth of Citeh
GOAL JESUS TIES IT UP AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY
GOAL! That's what he's there for - Gabby Jesus with an instinctive strike to bring Citeh back into this one.
1-1 Game on!
Citeh strung together their first group of passes and Ake fouled Jesus. Kompnany put through Jesus, who toe poked it home.
Ake fouls Jesus again and is booked. Citeh players wanted red for denying a goal scoring opportunity.
Several PPPers have chosen Jesus as their Golden Boot pick. He's off and running for the season then.
David Silva is starting to weave his magic finally and the Cherries have very little response. Off the chest and then a volley just over.
De Bruyne plays a long cross field ball down the left and Mendy drives the ball across the box as Jesus shoots into the side netting.
Great chested pass by Bernardo Silva that resulted in that volley from David Silva that was just over.
Glad to hear that you and Elizabeth haven't been affected in Harlingen. I'm wishing the best for Melanie in her new college life.
A Silva lining for Citeh
This match has completely turned around. Citeh were still on the coach for the first 15 minutes - now they're completely dominant.
Cheers, mate. She seems to be enjoying it. The real test will come when classes start on Tuesday
Mendy is economically tackled for a corner.
Bournemouth are under siege. David Silva finds the overlapping Danilo, whose low shot is kicked away by Begovic.
Bernardo Silva fouls Dafoe, who attempted a break off the Citeh corner.
We started with classes on Monday - good first week back but very, very busy.
We did too. It was the same here.
Bernardo Silva was a touch greedy there, going for goal when he could have played his mate David in there.
Defoe has a nibble on David Silva - close to a booking.
The two Championship matches o Watch ESPN are Richard Burton vs Not a Big Club at 10 and Forest vs Leeds in the late match. Our Uniteds both playing late.
Interesting comments about the MLS - players such as Defoe and David Villa are now being recalled by their international sides after having that experience. Good to hear.
I saw that - I'm hoping that ESPN have a live stream for the Forest v. Leeds.
Agreed. MLS must be improving if those players are being recalled. Dafoe has been back in the Prem for several seasons.
The Cherries really up against it now.
Don't tell the dirty old man about the live stream . He will become more than curious.
Nathan Ake is down and may have twisted his ankle, stretching to make a clearance.
Ake is down injured, possibly with twisted blood, and there’s a break in play.
Ake is back on. Good to see him recover.
Ake will struggle on for now but he seems at less than 100%
Oh - lovely move results in Begovic clawing a near post strike by Fernandinho away to safety.
Begovic does well to push away a near post effort from Fernandinho.
Two minutes of stoppage time to come and then it's bagel time.
NBCSN will be showing the Toon vs the Hammers at 10 AM in a surprisingly early relegation six pointer. I didn't expect that between these two teams.
Two minutes of stoppage time
Sounds like you're looking forward to that
Looks like it's going to be sunny today
Half time comes and I'm off to make my brekkies. Decent first half. Even steven.
It's 1-1 in at the end of a thrilling first half.
The second half is underway from sunny Dorset
Back on at the Vitality for the second half now. Can Bournemouth recapture their momentum from the beginning of this match?
Welcome back. How was the bagel? It will be a long second half for the Cherries.
Welcome to the Prem , Danilo as Steve Cook shows him English cuisine with a crunching, but fair tackle. Travelling Citeh fans chanting cheat. I disagree.
That tackle was cooked to perfection.
Will both teams be able to keep up the pace on a warm afternoon?
Kompany booked for fouling Josh King on a speedy break.
David Silva also talked himself into the book. A needless booking a there was nothing to complain about.
Citeh were alert to the short free kick and De Bruyne led a Citeh break , but the pass into the box was behind two Citeh players.
A training pitch free kick routine goes all wrong and nearly allows Citeh to counter with pace.
OH!!! Off the post from Josh King.
Oh - off the bedpost there by Andy King. So close to another lead for the Cherries.
Jon Champion mentioned that Eddie Howe played against Citeh here nineteen years ago in a 0-0 draw. That was Citeh's one season stay in the third tier.
It was a great pass from Charlie Daniels and a first time curling left footed shot from Josh King that nearly gave the Cherries the lead.
Do you think that Eddie Howe could eventually make a move to a bigger club? Or England manager?
I think he's happy at Bournemouth . Possibly a bigger club, but not England manager even though he may do decent job if asked.
Sergio Aguero is on for the last twenty five minutes. If he were to score, he'd be the highest scoring non-European player in Premier League history.
An off the ball push by Kompany on Dafoe. That could have been a second yellow for the Citeh defender.
Otamendi is added to the list of bookings.
The free kick is headed out and Harry Arter has a long range effort deflected for a corner.
That is an interesting stat. It seems as if there's a stat for everything, but shows he
s adapted well to the Prem compared to other players.
Bournemouth might be happy with a draw at this point and Citeh might regard this as two points dropped.
Years ago, South American players had difficulty adjusting to Britain. I would imagine that Luis Suarez is probably fairly high on that list as well.
Begovic does well to hold a long range effort from Fernandinho.
Begovic does well to hold on to a close range effort from Aguero.
Like for like as Afobe is on for Dafoe.
That is true. Luis Suarez probably would have the record if he had stayed in the Prem.
Jesus has a shot blocked for a Citeh corner.
OH!!!! Otamendi has a header come off the post and into Begovic's arms off the corner from De Bruyne.
Steve Cook booked for a high challenge on Jesus. Probably not the correct recipe.
Steve Cook is a rubbish chef, no doubt.
Begovic dives full length to push away a Citeh pass into the box.
Gordon Ramsey would not be pleased.
City come again in this superb match, enjoying a long spell of possession. The better Bournemouth play, the more you feel the match has late heartbreak written all over it.
Mendy picks up a yellow card on his debut.
Mendy booked on his Citeh debut for fouling Josh king on another Cherries break.
I have been thinking about that. A late Citeh winner looks to be on the cards.
Leroy Sane is going to get a late run out here.
Some divine intervention in the form of a rational change as Sane is on for Jesus.
Socrates would approve of that change, for sure.
Pep giving Lee Probert a tutorial or two.
BOOM BOOM , BASIL !
Great weather for Bank Holiday weekend. The local beaches must be packed.
Hall mark franchisee , Mike Dean, gives Harry Arter a card.
Jon Champion has to introduce Pleat to the 21st century after Pleat mentions transistor radios.
Cheers, mate!
The free kick from Aguero la curled just wide, lacking a little bit of bend.
LOL!!!! That' so 1970s from the Dirty old man. Is he familiar with email?
Charlie Daniels is down for the Cherries late on.
Mendy , economically, wins a corner off of Adam Smith
Pep Guardiola and Eddie Howe having a ruck off the pitch. Should I count that as the first one between managers? They didn't actually push and shove each other.
An arguement between Eddie Howe and Pep as Mike Dean is summoned over by Lee Probert . Mike Dean lectures Pep.
I would not count that as it there was very little involved.
Five minutes of stoppage given that will probably be half a dozen due to the stoppage.
A less than Sterling challenge on Afobe results in another card from the Hallmark store.
Late, late sub in order to waste time. Match management from Eddie Howe - he's happy with a point.
The sub is subbed as Afobe only lasted ten minutes and is replaced by Mousset on the final roll of the dice for Eddie Howe.
Adam Smith is the ninth player booked this match during the clearance sale at the Hallmark Store.
Charlie Daniels heads out a cross from Sane for a late corner.
Anywhere will do for the Cherries then Ederson pushes away a long range effort from Josh King on a Cherries break.
Double digits bookings as Mousset is booked.
GOAL! Citeh have broken Cherry hearts right at the death, just as predicted. A bit jammy really, with a wicked deflection over Begovic.
GOAL !!! STERLING SCORES A REALLY LATE WINNER.
Security involved as Citeh fans come on to the pitch celebrating.
Citeh fans have spilled onto the pitch in celebration, somewhat spurred on by the Citeh players celebrating.
What's going on now?! Raheem Sterling has been sent off for a second yellow for his silly celebration! He wins that honor in the PPP predictions game.
A damper on the late winner as Sterling gets a second booking and is sent off for going into the crowd for celebrating. It seems harsh, but he did create a disruption that resulted in Citeh fans coming on to the pitch
Stones on for David Silva.
It finally ends as Citeh win it late 1-2 at Dean Court.
Sadly no one picked Sterling for that category.
That's the end - crazy stuff really with Mike Dean struggling to keep the peace. Citeh have won it in the end.
It was a great late winner from Sterling . Great one touch passing from the short free kick and Sterling scored a chip over Begovic off a pass from Danilo.
I'm going to skip the relegation dogfight at 10am mate in favor of doing a few errands. But I'll be back for the late double-header.
Agreed. Sterling wins that category for sure. Definitely a crazy win.
Cheers, mate. Looking forward to joining you for the, late ones.
I'm back from my errands - thanks for all of the updates. I see that West Ham are still down in the dumps. No points yet this season in three matches. Bilic out?
So, the Toon pull out a win in the relegation dogfight. They'll swap places with Bournemouth, which helps me with the PPP.
In the other matches in the Prem, Swansea have beaten Palace away 0-2 with goals from Abraham and Ayew. And then there were two goalless draws between Hudders and Soton and between Watford and Brighton.
Welcome back, mate. Hope you accomplished everything. Now time for our Uniteds.
Scunny win 0-4 at Argyle . Sorry, mate.
And now for the United double-header. I've had MOT blaring in the kitchen during lunch prep. Wicked Kate has been trying to sing alternate lyrics about other teams beating us. She will be dealt with harshly.
The match at OT will be on NBC while the match from the City Ground will be on Watch ESPN

Referee Michael Oliver.
She scored a brace at Portman Road, so she's probably feeling great
The teams coming out of the tunnel at the City Ground with Leeds in all black. How does white clash with red and wouldn't black coming closer to clashing with red than white?
Joe Mou sticking with a winning team
Liam Bridcutt makes a Forest debut against Leeds just as he has been signed from Leeds. Eric Lichaj on the Forest bench
Teams also in the tunnel at the City Ground:
Forest - Smith, Darikwa, Worrall, Mills, Traore, Bouchalakis, Bridcutt, McKay, Dowell, Osborn, Murphy.
Leeds - Wiedwald, Ayling, Jansson, Cooper, Anita, Phillips, O'Kane, Alioski, Saiz, Hernandez, Roofe.
The big news there is that Forest start Liam Bridcutt who they poached off us on Tuesday. Should be spicy.
They're off from OT!
United with all the early attacking as they have a shot blocked.
Off from the City Ground.
And we're away at the City Ground - come on you Whites!
An Ayling challenge on Armand Traore results in a Forest free kick
COME ON YOU UNITEDS!
Matty James, the former United Academy player , well wide with a long range effort for the Foxes.
Naughty by Bridcutt with a less than Pre Saiz challenge.
Saiz not far wide with a long range effort.
Oh - Saiz just inches away with that tasty drive. I'm liking him more and more.
Good, crisp start from us here.
The usual pattern at OT, with the Foxes dropping deep and looking to spring breaks on you lot.
Alioski gives away a silly free kick there - Traore was going no where.
Oh - Dowell fired a great ball over but Murphy just missed out.
fortunately, the free kick came to nothing.
Agreed. Typical of visiting teams at OT. The Foxes will present a challenge.
I think you lot can break them down.
Luke seemed to be Ailing off a challenge from Traore, but seems to be okay
Thanks, mate. We will need to be patient today.
Oh - Juan had the ball in the net but it didn't Mata. Offside called.
BUGGER!!!! gREAT SAVE BY kASPER FROM THE CHUNK, BUT IT DIDN'T MATA THAT THE REBOUND WAS PUT AWAY BECAUSE HE HAD GHOSTED INTO AN OFFSIDE POSITION.
tHEN A A CROSS IS KARATE CHOPPED INTO THE BOPX AND THE FRENACH cONNECTION IS VOOLLEYED WIDE BY pOGBA.
It's just a Mata of time before United break through against the Foxes.
We started the match today in 5th, just a point behind Forest in 4th. Three points today would shoot us up to third ahead of Wolves who drew today. Only Cardiff now have a perfect record.
Okozaki has a long range effort easily saved by De Gea off pass from Vardy, who collected a long pass from Matty James./
Saiz found Hernandez well but he had drifted offside.
WOW ! This match is really vital. Also, I didn't expect Cardiff to start off so well.
YESSSSS!! Hat-trick boy Kemar Roofe scores again!
GOAL !!!!ROOFE GIVES LEEDS THE LEAD OFF A FREE KICK. A LONG FREE KICK FROM PABLO HERNANDEZ WAS HEADED OUT BY GENERAL MILLS AND HEADED BACK IN BY LIAM MINI COOPER THAT WAS HEADED IN BY ROOFE.
Great move there ending up with a sharp header by Roofe!
Congrats, Bob. Up to third in nosebleed territory
A long range effort is curled well wide by Pogba.
Mark Warburton wearing the green jersey that cloughie wore at Forest/
Kasper comfortably saves a long range effort that was karate chopped to him.
Good save by Wiedwald from the Mills header. Close call there.
Janssen tackles Darryl Murphy for A Forest corner and General Mills heads straight to Wiedwald off the corner.
We seem to have taken the foot off the gas a bit. Dangerous tactic. Forest are capable.
Dowell turned well there but O'Kane tracked back superbly.
Wes Morgan clears for a United corner,.
Kapser fists away a powerful cross from Pogba.
Naughty by Saiz, preventing a Forest throw. Lectured by the ref along with Mini Cooper in attendance.
United have an excellent free kick chance now as Lukaku is upended.
Harry Maguire called for a push on the Chunk just outside the Foxes box.
Murphy left his foot in there as he ran through on goal. nasty.
It comes to naught.
Fuchs was down for a while off a challenge from Valencia , but seems to be okay
The match at the City Ground has just got a bit chippy over the past five minutes.
The Chunk heads wide off a cross from Blind , who received a long cross field pass.
A bit ill tempered due to what's at stake headed into the international break
Lovely stuff from Alioski there who beats Traore and finds Saiz. He is a live wire.
