With all the breaking news of Neymar leaving practice after getting a knock.....he starts! Shocker!
The Line Ups
Brazil: Alisson; Fagner, Silva, Miranda, Marcelo; Casemiro, Paulinho, Coutinho; Willian, Jesus, Neymar.
Costa Rica: Navas; Acosta, Gonzalez, Duarte; Gamboa, Borges, Guzman, Oviedo; Ruiz, Venegas; Urena.
Referee: Bjorn Kuipers (Netherlands).
I always dial in my BBC/ITV link for the matches but I have been pleasantly surprised with Fox's coverage. Sure, they have some annoying commentators but they have been in the stadium and they are in Red Square with Wrighty and co
ITV have the coverage for the first match... link going strong
I have been able to use this link at school
It is good to see a lot of the classrooms have had the games running in their classrooms
Southgate says that Dele is progressing well and there is slim chance he'll be ready for the Panama match
Panama is the most important match for England... forget Belgium
Beat Panama and we are pretty much thru... if Belgium win too
Coming second looks like is a better deal
Roy Keane, Martin O'Neil and Patrice Evra in the ITV studio
Flags are on the pitch and players in the tunnel
Here they come
Fox showing it all... if this was the FA Cup...they'd be selling razors right now!
ITV still in the studio
Good morning, UWS. Up to join you for Day 9.
All the South American anthems seem to have a long intro before the singing starts
Nice pun with freezing out the Argies. That might explain Willy Cabs with that first goal yesterday
Morning MUR
All here until half time-ish...going into school a tad late
Delighted for you. What's on the brunch menu?
Two very long anthems!!
Glad you can be around for the first half Perhaps your presence can inspire some early goals.
I can understand Brazil and Argentina but I can't understand how many fans are in Russia for some of the teams
Tunisia out numbered England fans 5 to 1
Peru had a home match yesterday vs the French
HOW CAN THEY AFFORD IT!!!
Fox staying for everything... ITV off for a commercial!!
They're off
Brazil in blue
Costa Rico in white
We are off
Why do both wear second colors!!
They either spend their entire salary or face trip to debtor's prison. That might explain how they can afford the expenses.
I don't like the kits either. Brazil's is atrocious.
Coutinho hits one over
There was an episode of Batman where Eli Wallach played a super villain named Mr. Freeze,Should we send Mr. Freeze put a curse on the Argies?
Brazil are up for this.
Aguero wants the Argie manager out before the last group match!!
If Brazil and and Switzerland win then the Ticos are out. Good riddance?
CR are just going to be sitting back the whole time
I don't get it...you should at least give the other team a threat
Horrible by Aguero to go public with that even though their manager looked like a moron on the touchline.
Argentinian TV hosts hold a minute's silence after Croatia defeat!
It says that a lot of players want him out
Cris Gamboa , of Celtic , with a long range effort that lands in Row T. Would have been perfect if it was rugby.
Brazil have created nowt
Free kick chance for them
They sure played like it. Did anyone in the PPP pick the Argie manager to be the first one sacked. One of five Argie managers in the WC . So far all flops.
Willian wins a free kick. Ticos players thought he flopped over./
Neymar to chip it in the box...cleared
The teams met in 1990, the first ever WC for the Ticos. Brazil; won that match 1-0. I think that match was similar to the way this one is going.
Casemiro plays the ball out . He has a bloody nose .
Did you see that stat? Neymar fouled ten times against the Swiss. Most since since Shearer was fouled ten times vs the Swiss in 1998
I thought the cut back was modern day but it did find a man...hit wide by the Ricos... should have done better
The Ticos attack and Borges is wide.
Surprised 10 is a big number
The current Ticos manager play in that match against Brazil in 1990.
Looking at website about kits for the new season
Watford will be wearing yellow and black stripes!!
It is for just one player. because that's all the entire team is fouled in a match, let alone one player. Don't remember Shearer showing the drama Neymar did.
Don't like that new Hornets kit. Graham Taylor would not have been pleased.
Neymar fouled.... stupid foul... he had a teammate there for cover
Neymar fouled from behind by Venegas. That's a shout for a booking.
Navas easily gathers the free kick
20 minutes in... Brazil are not that good
England should fear NO ONE
Based on the matches so far, it seems that Croatia is the team to avoid. That's the one team I could see giving England problems.
Now Jesus fouled , but not one of biblical proportions
Thiago Silva heads wide from the free kick
I was Youtubing the other night and was watching some of Scotland's matches from the past
Why have the dropped off so much? They have always produced great players! Prem teams were always filled with Scots as well as Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and co
How are players not being produced?
Atrocious cross from Neymar.
De Jesus with a nice finish but well offside
Scottish footie in general has suffered a decline. I heard of corruption in the SFA and someone told me about rising drug use and a horrible recession in Scotland . Is that true?
Jesus shoots past Navas to score off a pass from Willian , but it's disallowed for offside. The replay shows that was the correct call.
Then Jesus put through and Navas rushes out to block.
Marcello not too far wide with a long range effort.
Coutinho just over from a similar spot to the goal he scored vs the Swiss.
Neymar looks for a foul just outside the Ticos box. The Dutch ref waves play on.
Neymar has a cross headed out for a corner.
a foul called on that play. Free kick to the Ticos.
Neither side with a shot on target.
Willian high and wide with a long range effort.
Bob is not missing much.
Brazil don't impress me at all
They play on reputation !!
Not at all
Willian wins a corner off the Black Cat off a cross field pass from MArcello.
No team is a cut above the rest
Apparently, Brazil haven't kept a clean sheet in their last 5 WC matches
Paulinho goes down off the corner , looking for a penalty . The ref waves play on.
Brazil may break that streak today.,
I think Croatia is slightly better than the rest so far, but still early in the tournament.
Marcello with a long range effort easily saved at the near post by his Real teammate.
First shot on target of the match
England created the most chances....especially in the first 20 minutes.. SHOULD not could have scored FIVE!!
I am off to work
I'll be back ASAP!!!
SUMMER!!!
Have fun and congratulations.
Into stoppage time.
A minute of that
A rare free kick for the Ticos.
The free kick sails over everyone and it's 0-0 at the half.
Morning, boys. I’m home from my appointment. Thanks for getting us started.
Good morning, Bob. Glad you are around and hopefully a clean bill of health.
Second half underway
It sounds as if the first half was distinctly unimpressive. Hoping for better in the second half.
WOW! Willian substituted at halftime. He was one of the few decent players out there. Replaced by Douglas Costa of Juve. Tactical?
It was. The Ticos played the majority of the half with ten men behind the ball and have taken the enjoyment out of the match
The doc gave me the thumbs up.?
Chaos in the Ticos box . Fail to clear the pass from Paulinho then a collision between Navas and Neymar.
Well done. Glad the doc gave the doc a clean bill of health.
JESUS! A header off the post from Jesus then a shot deflected wide. Corner immediately taken short
Oh - off the bar! And the Coutinho has a shot deflected wide!
Neymar has a pass cleared for a corner.
Brazil ratcheting up the pressure here.
Corner taken by neymar Anywhere will do for the Ticos and another Brazil corner.
Bryan Ruiz, normally the main attacker, back heading away the corner.
Cris Bolanos on for the exhhausted Marco Urena
Ticos just about hanging on.
OH!!! Naymar has a close range effort tipped over by Navas off a pass from Douglas Costa
Oh - great save, Navas from Neymar!
Ticos counter as CAsemiro coughs up popossesion. Brazil recover to win the ball back,
Oh - another save from Navas this time from Coutinho!
That was from Paulinho
Ticos earn a first corner.
Bolanos wins a corner off of Marcello. First of the match for the Ticos.
Corner headed away by the first man. Now Brazil counter.
Jesus had a shot blocked. Previous pass would have put a player through, but too far behind the player.
I bet nobody would have bet on this being the first 0-0 of the tournament.
Neymar had a chance to run at his man but he was unselfish and tried to find Costa.
Neymar with a shot fumbled by Navas then gathered.
I still think that there will be goals in this one.
Neymar crosses and Paulinho called for a foul as he went for the volley
I sure hope so. It will teach a lesson to sides like the Ticos.
It looks like a lovely day in St. Pete
Bobby Firmino to come on. He's capable of changing the course of a match
An attacking move as Bobby F is on for Paulinho
Bobby Firmino coming on for more firepower to replace Paulinho.
Great sweeper keeping from Allison then Neymar tackled by the Black Cat for a corner.
Neymar nearly in there; can the Ticos hang on?
Oscar Duarte clears for a Brazil corner,.
Casemiro heads into the ground and straight into the arms of his Real teammate
If this match ended in a draw, the Serbs would have the chance to win the group this afternoon against the Swiss
OH!!! Naymar with time and space shoots over after Gamboa, of Celtic , gave away possession.
That is correct. Nobody predicted that. I'm expecting a cagey match in that contest.
Calvo, of Minnesota United , on for Gamboa of Celtic.
Neymar should have hit the target with that effort
Neymar has a shot blocked for a corner.
Neymar takes and it's headed away
Penalty to Brazil!
PENALTY!!!TICOS PLAYERS SURROUND THE REF.
Didn't see much in that
Very soft there; Neymar made a meal of that.
Penalty not given.
No penalty after the VAR - Neymar should be booked!
A nice sol run from Jesus set up that chance In reality , Neymar took too long to shoot.
Neymar booked now, showing his frustration as a Ticos player is down time wasting. Now play resumes.
A draw would be a great result for the Ticos, but would have a must win match vs the Swiss.
Should have been his second booking.
Boris Yeltsin Tejeda on for Guzman. Final Ticos change
Johnny Acosta booekd for time wasting.
Coutinho has a long range effort curled straight to Navas
Casemiro straight to his Real teammate
Oh - Casemiro with a nice drive smothered by Navas.
Two Ticos players down time wasting
Why is it taking forever to get the player off the pitch.
Now Navas down off a collision with his Real teammate, Casemiro
Now Navas is down - ridiculous
That one may have actually knocked the wind out of him.
A half dozen stoppage time minutes. Due to the time wasting
Into six minutes of stoppage time
GOAL !!!COUTINHO GIVES BRAZIL THE LEAD.
Goal! Coutinho wins it for Brazil!!
Coutinho played the ball wide left to Marcello. His cross was headed own by Fagner then a poor touch by Jesus went to Coutinho, who blasted it past Navas.
Fernandinho on for Thiago Silva
Lovely knock down by Firmino, passed on by Jesus and finished by Coutinho.
No sympathy for the Ticos due to their dramatics . This may teach them a lesson that 100% defending doesn't get you anywhere
Coutinho high and wide off a one two with Neymar.
That goal changes the whole complexion of this group. Now Brazil can still win it.
Black Cat clears for a Brazil corner
Ticos on the brink of elimination?
GOAL !!!NEYMAR PUTS BRAZIL TWO UP AGAINST A TIRED TICOS SIDE
Ticos have to get it in the box.
Neymar scores a second!
That's it . Brazil win 2-0 with both goals scored in stoppage time
That last goal came as the Ticos gifted possession to Brazil. Casemiro went on a long run , played it wide to Douglas Costa and his pass was scored for an easy tap in by Neymar.
Full time - Brazil pull it out with two stoppage time goals. But I agree with UWS. I don’t fear Brazil.
Well, mate - that was fun. Kate and are going to try to finish up a painting project today and tomorrow, so I may be in and out during the next match.
If you're not around then look forward to chatting with you tomorrow.
Next , probably the most intriguing match up of the day as it's Iceland vs Nigeria. Unless this finishes a s a draw, the Argies are all but out.
Also, the Ticos are eliminated and good riddance.
The ref is a Kiwi, who was born in Plano, TX. Talk about a small world.
They're off from Vologograd where it's in the low 90s.
An early long throw for Iceland. long throw from Cardiff City player headed away. Now Iceland have a free kick as they do all the early attacking
The free kick from Siggy turned around by the teeanage keeper.
The keeper easily catches the corner from Siggy
The temperature is down to 89 degrees . Still warm or the players.
Long Iceland clearance headed down and Siggy has a long range effort easily saved
Victor Moses wins a corner off of Magnusson of Bristol City
The corner is headed away.
Nice to see both sides going for the win.
Gislason, of German second tie club Sandhausen, with a foul on Obi Wan
Sioggy tripped by Obi Wan
Sounds like a good match!
Bjnarsson , of Villa wins a corner after Gunarsson gunned in a long throw then he had a volley blocked by Moses.Moses heads out the corner for another after the keeper missed the flight of the ball.
Corner headed out
Hello Bob. Yes. A good , clean , proper match. No cynical play and no play acting. Both teams going for it.
Ihenacho fouled by Ragnar Siggy, who plays in Russia for Rostov
Glad to hear it; I hope that Iceland can do the biz and knock The Argies out.
Moses heads out a cross from Siggy then Bjarnasson well over with a close range volley.
That would be great Technically , the Argies are still alive even if Iceland wins
Balogun, a new signing for the Seagulls , with a key defensive header that prevents a good chance for Iceland off a teasing cross.
Maggnusson with a stupid foul on Moses near the corner flag off a long ball headed nowhere.
Free kick from Ihenacho headed out by Saeversson for a corner. No a throw by the corner flag.
So they’d be out with a Nigeria win?
Moses has a cross deflect off of Magnusson for a corner.
No Argies still alive no matter what. Iceland win the worst result because they would need a win and Iceland loss that would combine four four or more goals.
Idowu first player of the match booked.
Nearly the lead for Iceland a s a free kick from Siggy just eludes Finbogs at the far post. A pair of stoppage time minutes
Iceland win a corner on a break
