Hiya, MUR - thanks for getting us started. Kate and I are in full-on apartment clearing mode today, but I hope to join you sporadically during the day. It sounds like a big day of friendly action!
Cheers, Bob. Wishing you and Kate a productive weekend. Back from giving Jacquelyn a driving lesson and picking up Elizabeth from grocery shopping.
Already time to correct a mistake in the thread I posted. Chelsea vs Inter not being played in the U.S. , but at Bayern's Allianz Arena.
I wonder what the new Chelski line-up will look like. Are they going to keep the faith with Alvaro Morata, who had a good start to the season or are they going to shift over to Batboy as the main striker? Or someone new?
It's 0-0 at the half between Juve and Benfica in another ICC match being played. Glad I'm not watching that one.
Good Afternoon, Bob. The announcer referred to it as a strong Chelsea lineup. Not sure what that means.
They're off from the Allianz Arena.
Chelsea legend, Gio Zola , the assistant to the new manager, who is changing from Conte's beloved 3-4-3 to a 4-3-3.
Early chance for Chelsea as Inter coughed up the ball in their own box and Morata passed to a teammate, whose close range effort was kicked saved by the Inter keeper.
It was Ross Barkley , who should have given Chelsea the lead.
Morata has a close range headed goal disallowed for offside off a cross from Pedro off a nice possession.
GOAL !!! PEDRO GIVES CHELSEA THE LEAD ON HIS 31ST BIRTHDAY. MORATA WON A TACKLE IN THE INTER BOX, TURNED A DEFENDER , HAD A NEAR POST EFFORT SAVED THEN PEDRO PUT AWAY THE REBOUNDS.
Pedro wins a free kick a yard from the D.
The free kick from Marcos Alonso is several feet over.
The closest Inter have come to scoring as a cross/ shot from Candreva goes just wide of goal.
A pair of stoppage time minutes
De Vries heads out for a Chelsea corner.
Poor cross from the Sideshow is cleared for another corner.
Chelsea one up at the half and deserving of their one goal lead.
I like the sound of a new lineup and format for Chelsea. I hated the Conte way.
A mistake from Yours Truly. The match being played on the French Riviera, not Munich
Chelsea made three substitutions at the half.
Agreed, Bob. Chelsea look far more entertaining than they did under Conte, especially last season
Second half is underway
Politano wins a an early Inter corner.
Politano has a shot fumbled around by Willy Cabs for another corner.
GOAL INTER TIES IT UP. BAKAYOKO , WHO JUST CAME ON AS A SUB, COUGHED UP THE BALL IN MIDFIELD. ICCARDI PASSED TO GAGLIADINI, WHO SHOT ALMOST STRAIGHT AT WILLY CABS AS IT DEFLECTED OFF HIS FOOT FOR A GOAL.
I’m not convinced by Bakayoko; he seems like a liability.
Willy Cabs fumbles a long range effort from Gagliardini, but gathers it at the second attempt.
Morata wins a soft free kick in a promising position.
Into the wall by the Sideshow and deflected for a corner.
A quintet of Chelsea substitutions as there's a pause in play.
I’m not sure that Willy Cabs is good enough for a side challenging for the big trophies.
Tammy Abraham receives a pass just outside the box, turns a defender then forces a decent save from Handanovic.
Agreed, Bob. Chelsea just signed Rob Green, which may be a sign that Willy Cabs is going for a permanent ride away from SB.
Looks like Antonio Rudiger letting Willy Cabs what he thinks about the goalkeeping or lack of keeping.
LOL! That sounds like a spicy conversation.
Long range effort from the thirsty Danny Drinkwater is not too far wide.
Azpi clears for a corner off a through ball after Chelsea coughed up possession in midfield.
Callum Hudson-Odoi goes past his defender then Dalbert heads out his cross for a Chelsea corner.
Agreed, Bob. Rudiger seemed like an irate customer , who wasn't about to pay cab fare.
Jorginho has a long range curler well turned around by Handanovic
Nice attacking move by Chelsea led by Victor Moses . Played out wide left to Emmerson and his cross was driven over by an out stretched Tammy Abraham from close range.
Victor Moses fouled on a counter that actually began with a poor clearance from Willy Cabs.
Actually it was Bakayoko fouled by D'Ambrosio.
Play stopped as Christiansen hobbles of injured as he recently joined the squad after being on World Cup duty.
A pair of stoppage time minutes away from a penalty shootout.
OH!!!! A Superb close reflex save by Willy Cabs from Martinez off a cross from Karamoh.
It's 1-1 as this one will be decided by a penalty shootout.
The start of the shootout. Rinocchio to take and it's 1-0 Inter . Placed in the corner , sending Willy Cabs the wrong way.
Jorginho with a Panenka in the upper 90 , sending Handanovic the wrong way . 1-1.
Gabbiadini in the upper 90 , sending Willy Cabs the wrong way. 2-1 Inter.
Desmond as the thirsty Danny Drinkwater blasts it in the upper 90.
Martinez blasts it down the middle , sending Willy Cabs the wrong way. 3-2 Inter.
Moses places it in the corner to make it 3-3.
Willy Cabs saves a poor penalty from Srkinija.
Tammy Abraham , scores , sending Handanovic the wrong to make it 4-3 to Chelsea.
Karamoh scores , sending Willy Cabs the wrong to make it 4-4. Well placed.
Azpi blasts it in the corner, sending Handanovic the wrong way to win it for Chelsea 5-4 on spot kicks.
Next is United vs Liverpool on ESPN , kicking off in just under an hour.
I'm here to enjoy the United v. Liverpool match. We're taking a break with a couple of root beer floats after a very productive day.
Grrr! The match on ESPN is being pre-empted by some meaningless basketball game. Grrr!
A minute into the match on ESPN News because ESPN would prefer to show sucky basketball players who are worse than amateurs.
I am here watching the match on ESPN News until the stupid bb finishes
Hello, Bob. The match is on ESPN news.
The BB game is first to 86!!!
Not much happening in the match except some feisty tackles by Milner... United not happy
Good Afternoon, UWS. Thanks for mentioning about ESPN News.
United in all blue , which must be their third kit while Pool in their grayish white kit, their away kit, I believe
Cheers, lads - I'm on to the ESPN News feed.
BB just got to 86!!
They are going to the match now
Jose not looking Pretty in Pink.
ESPN is actually a few seconds behind...what nun-ties
This being played at U of Michigan's Stadium.
Oh - Milner got in behind the United defense from the throw but couldn't feed Solanke out front.
It's not just FOX then.
I can't see why United would have another kit of pink
Wear the red or the blue
United get away with ball watching at a throw as they scramble it away in the six yard box.
Agreed. Pink just is not United.
Oh - nice finish by Mata there but he was miles offside.
United don't attack enough
It is going to be just like last season
Jose says they are solid at the back... well Man City conceded ONE LESS goal than United and scored THIRTY-EIGHT less
Great save by Grant from a lovely header by Mo
Oh - nice back header attempt by Salah and Grant was able to tip over.
OH!!! Free header for Salah and well tipped over by Lee Grant off a long ball from Mane.
Liverpool hit the bar.... pathetic by United
Oh - from the corner Van Dyck hit the bar! Liverpool looking threatening!
OH!!! Van Dijck with a header off the bar from the corner.
Wish Jose would mention about improving the attack.
Thanks for the warning ESPN. the match no longer on ESPN News and had to run halfway across the house to switch the channel.
Jose is a better ball boy than manager.
United giving up so many chances inside the box
Salah should have done better there
Salah with a header straight in to the ground and straight to Lee Grant off a cross from Mane.
Surprised Jose and his staff not asked to change their jerseys since they clash with the jersey worn by Alison in the Liverpool goal.
What is United's formation?
They are giving up so many chances
I love all these teams coming over here but they should do it every two years. The summers of tourneys are pointless
United used to go all over the place but since Jose got here they are based on west coast
Poor from Sanchez there. If he were more confident about his left peg he could have driven at goal there.
United have a break... was the pass to hard or did he not get to the ball... toothless by United
Sanchez looks really fast this preseason
Not sure if Jose has anything to do with the tours or if it's decided by the board. I like the idea of them being in the U.S. so it's easier to watch them at a decent time.
I heard it was him that wanted to be based in So Cal
Great control and finish by Mata... offside
Nice finish but the goal was disallowed due to a small Mata of being just offside. Nice long ball from Alexis.
This one is in Michigan. Jose thinks he's a Hollywood type celebrity? If only.
He's more an average Joe than a Hollywood celebrity.
There were 109,000 in attendance when United played Real at this venue four years ago. Must be pretty close to that today.
The two sides of Lallana. First , he wins a tackle in midfield then a pass right to a United player.
Absolutely atrocious pass from Darmian. Alexis agrees.
Penalty to Liverpool! A bit soft for my taste. Mane to take...
And scores - great pen, poor camera work.
Penalty to Liverpool... terrible defending!!
Not much in it for me... who cares there was contact
Stupid defending
Terrible camera work... only just got to the back of the goal
PENALTY !!!INEXPERIENCED ACADEMY PLAYER, MITCHELL TRIPS SALAH.
GOAL!! MANE PLACES IT IN THE CORNER TO GIVE POOL THE LEAD.
I heard it was 95 to 100 K there
Don't see Mitchell breaking into the first team with defending like that. Jose will not be impressed.
Thing that gets me about water breaks...the clock keeps going but there isn't any extra time added to the added time
Stop saying there was contact.... Salah dived
A water break. Not sure if Jose was upset about that or the penalty being awarded. Definite penalty.
Water break now. Odd timing for that one.
Agreed. Time needs to be added on for the water break.
Nicely set up free kick now.
Free kick United about 35 yards from goal.
Oh what a strike from Andreas Pereira!!
Free kick chance for United... from Ohio..... GOAL!!
FANTASTIC FREE KICK BY Pierra
GOAL !!! ANDRES PERRERYRA TIES IT UP WITH A FREE KICK BENT LIKE BECKHAM.
Keeper never moved
Liverpool keeper was rooted to the spot there.
That lead didn't last long at all as it's now 1-1.
Moreno with a rugby tackle...that should have been a yellow
Cynical foul by Moreno on Darmian. How was he not booked?
Why doesn't Pierra play... every impressive
Passing and shooting...duh
Was he with us last season? Something is definitely wrong if he doesn't start the opening match against the Foxes.
Pereira... spelled it right... needs to stay at OT this season...give him a shot
Matt said he played for Valencia all of last season
Klaven should have been booked for that foul on Alexis. What's wrong with this ref?
We must have sent him out on loan. Thanks to Matt for that info. He sure does need to stay at OT and be inserted into the starting lineup.
Every time the ball comes in the back... two United players seem to get in each other's way
Th spelling looks fairly accurate, UWS. Not sure if it's with an i or y.
Another 'bit of contact' and Mane goes flying
Mane goes down looking for another pen. Ref not biting this time. Is he Neymar in disguise?
That looked a dive by Mane. Bailey barely touched him. Not sure why a former Prem player would think that's a penalty.
Amazing how much wider a football field his to an Am Football field!
Look how much little space the benches are... think about how many players are on the sidelines for Michigan games
LOL. Sure looks like Neymar impersonator.,
Sanchez was a real handful during midweek.... today he's done nowt
That's a great analysis , UWS. Hadn't thought about that, but definitely true.
Agreed. Alexis was off to a good start, but has been fairly quiet since then.
Decent chance there for Liverpool. Camacho fizzed one over.
Salah wins a corner off of Wasabi after a nice slide rule pass from Lallana.
Header from Van Dijck straight to Lee Grant off the corner.
United have two more pre-season matches
July 31 vs Real Madrid in Miami... 8pm ET
Aug 5 @ Bayern Munich... 9:15am ET
Oh - Camacho did so well to get to the by-line but then picked out the wrong ball.
Liverpool should definitely be on top here
Into stoppage time. How much? A minute.
See...ONE added minute....they stopped more than that for drinkies
Sorry, lads. United have been second best in this half. Liverpool have looked really dangerous. United have had one wonder strike and not a lot else. Jose out!
UWS correct about time not being added on for the water break.
The ref is making up free kicks now... how was that a foul on Sanchez
Half time
1-1
Correct, Bob. Hollywood Joe needs to walk the plank at the Santa Monica Pier.
That's half time. An interesting first half once the basketball had been dispensed with. Looking forward to more.
It's 1-1 at the half.
By the way, I'll be sending out the set up for the 2018/2019 PPP tomorrow. Thomas is going to send me some suggestions for more categories for predictions. Feel free to do the same.
Sounds great. Will look forward to that.
1 SHOT.... pathetic
some stats are meaningless. Liverpool dominating in EVERY category. Surprised it's still 1-1.
Liverpool replace Alison with a teenage Irish keeper.
Second half underway
Second half underway from Ann Arbor , Michigan.
Back on for the second half in Michigan.
I know I have said it before but I don't get how managers allow players to dink around with the ball at the back.... it is so dangerous! One mistake... it is a goal!
When in doubt... kick it out
When King Eric was mentioned, Kate instinctively said, "Ooh ahh, Cantona, I said ooh ahh Cantona!"
I've trained her well.
United's next match is vs Real on Tuesday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. That match kicks off at 8:05 PM.
Liverpool's kit looks like their mid 80s and 90s as well
Well done, Bob. You taught Kate Well. She passed with flying colors. Tres bien!
Posted United's matches 20 minutes ago...ignored again
United parking the bus again... THEY ARE BORING!!!
Well done Kate!!
About time a Liverpool player is booked after Alexis has been targeted. Fabinho booked for the latest trip on Alexis.
Klopp with lots of substitutions, including a debut for the Hobbit, Shaquiri.
First chance to have a look at Shaq in United colors (or whatever it is United are wearing today).
I do not know how the United Board allow these types of display
It wasn't just under Fergie
It was under Fat Ron, The Doc and Sir Matt
O'Farrell and Sexton were fired for not playing the United way!
Sexton won his last seven matches of the season but still go the can!
Liverpool colors...not United
Sorry, UWS. I missed that. United playing Bayern at the same time as the Charity Shield?
When I lived in England , The only time United wore their kit was away to red and white striped teams. Once saw Sammy McIlroy wear a blue shirt away to the Saints at The Dell.Otherwise, spot on, UWS.
Who can United bring in to play a better way!!
I'd like MaGuire after his WC displays
United changed keepers too. A different Perreryra in goal for United.
That signing seems to be highly likely . Is that correct?
I don't know why teams don't go out to entertain... especially when results don't matter
Ian Darke mentioning what UWS mentioned the day of the WC Final regarding Pogba.
Agreed. Would love to see attacking football from United as well as other teams as long as they're not playing United
Ian said the attendance is 105,000.
United looking so iffy at the back!!
A delay as an idiot has invaded the pitch.
Some plonker is on the pitch...they think it's all over....
Tottenham looked really good vs Roma
AN HOUR gone... ONE SHOT
Will there be any added time for the delay?
Way hay... Leeds get a mention
Sanchez... misses a decent opportunity
They did in the first half before the mass substitutions.
Nice cross to the back post...Again United look like it is Panic Stations every time the ball comes in the box
Camacho misses a decent opportunity for Liverpool with a free header in the six yard box headed into the ground.
Are we headed for yet another penalty shootout?
Decent article about Shoot and Match magazines
https://www.theguardian.com/football/the-set-pieces-blog/2018/jul/26/match-shoot-glory-days-football-magazines-teenagers
Another mass substitution from Klopp.
Thanks for the link . Looks like a definite must read.
BUGGER!!!! LIVERPOOL TAKE A 2-1 LEAD.
Sorry, chaps. The little gnomish one Shaqiri has fired Liverpool back into the lead.
Liverpool retake the lead
Neither commentator knows who scored
Again... TERRIBLE defending
