Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

RIP Gordon Banks: 1937-2019

Sad news today of the passing of England's greatest #1 Gordon Banks. Gordon had a long career with several clubs, most notable Stoke City, but his name will always be associated with England's 1966 win and of course his save in the 1970 World Cup match against Pele's Brazil, which is still largely considered the greatest save in football history. RIP Gordon.

It's sad when those icons of our childhoods pass. He was a great keeper, one I was lucky to see in person at the first match I went to see when my Dad took Bob and me to WHL. The spuds didn't stick, but to see Banks at that moment was terrific.

I also have an obscure memory of him on some game show where a remote control ball cannon was fired at the goal by a contestant against a keeper, in this case Banks. I remember that I saw Pat Jennings and Ray Clemence on that show as well. What was the name of that show, anybody?

RIP Gordon.

One of the Best of All Time

He was England's best until he lost an eye in a car accident

Still had a successful career in the NASAL with one eye!
