Wednesday Carabao Madness!
It's a big night in the League Cup as we've reached the 5th Round stage and the big boys are battling it out. We've got two big marquee match-up - Liverpool v. Arsenal at Anfield and Chelsea v. ManYoo from the Bridge. Now given the lack of respect of modern managers for this tournament, we're likely to see some academy prospects and back benchers rather than the stars. But still - it's Liverpool v. Arsenal and Chelsea v. United on one night. Cor!

Coverage on ESPN+ is about to start for tonight's matches. I'll be watching the Liverpool v. Arsenal.
Team news out of Anfield tonight:
Liverpool: Kelleher, Williams, Gomez. Van Den Berg, Milner, lallana, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Elliott, Origi, Brewster. Subs: Adrian, Jones, Kane, Larouci, Chirivella, Clarkson, Koumetio.
Arsenal: Martínez, Bellerin, Holding, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Torreira, Willock, Maitland-Niles, Özil, Saka, Martinelli. Subs: Macey, Sokratis, Tierney, Guendouzi, Ceballos, Pepe, Lacazette.
Referee: Andre Marriner.
Not surprising line-up for these sides. I'm sure it must be ego-deflating to show up on in the side for nights like this, as it underscores for the likes of Joe Gomez or Jamie Milner for Liverpool or Mustafa and Ozil that, "Oh - I'm a Carabao player now."
I'm back after dealing with a pesky student and Liverpool are already 1-0 up through an unfortunate o.g. by Mustafi
Liverpool are enjoying the better of the possession and continue to look the sharper side.
GOAL! Torreira taps home Arsenal's equalizer after some quite scintillating football.
1-1!
I'm really liking the look of this Martinelli youngster that Arsenal have been playing in the League Cup this season. Very direct!
Very open match now. Somewhat low stakes so they're just having a bit of fun.
Brewster picks up a silly yellow for blocking Martinez's clearance.
GOAL! The lively teenager Gabrielle Martinelli puts Arsenal in front!
1-2!
It was a clever, quick free kick there that did the damage. Maitland-Niles put the cross in and Van den Berg had a first effort stopped but Martinelli stepped in to roof it into the net.
There is no VAR tonight. Had there been, Torreira’s first goal would have been chalked off. A replay shows that Torreira’s heel was offside when Saka shot at goal. Not that anyone should be complaining. It’s a blessed relief not to have the VAR breaking up the lovely ebb and flow of this game.
GOAL! Martinelli again! He's on fire. The 18 year old has scored seven goals in seven games for the Gunners. How long before he's a starter in the Premier League matches!
1-3!
Liverpool are on the ropes now. Maitland-Niles bangs in a low cross that Van Den Berg scrambles clear. And then moments later, Ozil nutmegs Elliott with an insouciant flick to set Maitland-Niles free down the right again. This time, his cross is cleared with no alarms and no surprises.
Penalty to Liverpool!
LUFC Academy to take....
And efficiently slotted home! 2-3!
Lallana picks up a yellow and gives away a dangerous free kick.
I do not like this young Elliott's look. It looks as if he's trying to ape the stylings of a Soundcloud rapper or something. Very chavvy.
Torreira takes the free kick and curls it well over.
Oh - Martinelli had a chance to notch his hat-trick there. From the corner Torreira had a go from distance. The ball deflected up and onto Martinelli's head but he put it right into Kelleher's arms.
Oh - Origi misses a free header!
Half time in this cracking cup tie. A five goal thriller so far. It's all been happening!
Well, well, well. The five goal thriller has become a seven goal thriller. First Maitland-Niles made it 2-4 Arsenal. Then The Ox stepped to leather one home against his former employers.
3-4!
Make that 4-4! What a strike by Origi! Martinez nearly got to it but he could only tip it into the top corner.
Any season ticket holders who decided to skip the Anfield night tonight must be kicking themselves. An 8 goal thriller!
Oh - Martinelli with another big chance for his hat-trick!
Oh my word! What a strike by Joe Willock!
4-5!
Still fifteen minutes left in this extraordinary match.
"5-4 to the Arsenal!" the gleeful away support sing.
About five minutes left for Pool to rescue this one.
Pool still chasing this one - into stoppage time now.
5-5!!!!
Wow!
Williams did really well to get to the by-line and pull out an inviting ball. Origi met it with a peach of a volley.
That's that, then. Penalties it is.
Milner wins the toss, so the pens will be taken at the Kop End.
Bellerin takes first and...
Roofs it - 1-0 Arsenal.
Milner slots home his second pen of the night.
1-1
Guendouzi steps up now and is roundly be booed.
Just squeezes it past Kelleher.
2-1 Arsenal.
Lallana up next....
Sticks it in the top corner. 2-2!
Whiz kid Martinelli steps up now.
He'll claim that as his hat-trick.
3-2 Arsenal.
Liverpool youngster Brewster up next...
Scores! 3-3!
Ceballos up and...
Saved by Kelleher! Advantage Liverpool now.
Origi, the hero of the night slams home.
3-4 Liverpool now.
Maitland-Niles to save the evening for Arse now....
Scores with a cool one. 5-5
Youngster Curtis Jones now to seal it for Liverpool.
Scores! Liverpool are through to the 5th Round.
I'm off lads. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
