Pedal to the Metal!
This weekend feels like the crunch time for domestic football with lots at stake. We start today with a relegation six pointer - Norwich v. West Ham - for example. At the same time, we've got promotion hunters Brentford at Derby. Of course, I'm hoping that Wazza and co. can do more for us than they did the other day.
Later on in the day, we've got the European challengers Sheffield United and Chelsea doing battle and West Brom traveling to Blackburn. I'd take a draw in both of those matches, wouldn't you?
So, bring on the good stuff and join me for a cuppa this morning.

Sad news out of Blighty this morning of the passing of another Elland Road and England legend Jack Charlton at age 85. That's the third figure from the Revie era that we've lot in the last few months.
No news about the cause of death, but I'm suspecting that a lot of these deaths are due to COVID-19 and family's are just being private about it.
God morning Bob up and ready to chat .
You are correct. It is crunch time. It's the penultimate Saturday of the season and the prepenultimate weekend of the season
Very sorry about Jackie Charlton. He had a pretty long innings so he did well to make it to 85. Could have been any number of reasons
They're off from the London Stadium and VR
Of course, I'm focusing on the Derby v. Brentford match this morning. If Derby can get something from this one, it just makes our goal for promotion that much easier.
Morning, David - great to have you on board for these crunch time matches.
Watching one match on NBCSN and the other on Gold
And we're away from Pride Park in this crucial Championship tie. Come on, you Rams!
Crunch time at lunch time!
Thanks Bob. Glad to join you
Derby have an early corner. And now another. Good start from the Rams.
That's a key match.
COME ON YOU RAMS!
The Canaries will be relegated with a loss today and they seem to have accepted their fate as it's all Hammers early doors
Bugger! Brantford have scored early on! That's not good.
The Reading Railroad rides their way to a lead at Charlton. No pun out of respect for Jackie
Sorry, Bob. Leeds needs to win at the Liberty tomorrow
Even a draw will do for us - come on, Derby! Get it back!
Just to let you know the latest in our area . Our county had 250 new cases yesterday, which nearly doubled the record and five deaths beating the record of four. The county extended the order of masks and curfews a fortnight to July 27th
Antonio goes on a run down the left then passes to Jarred Bowen who shoots just wide
First Canaries spell of pressure and Vrancic drags a shot from just outside the box wide
Tim Krul does well to turn around a close range volley from Antonio
Corner out by Tittey for another
GOAL !!!ANTONIO SCORES OFF THE CORNER
cORNER FROM jARRED bOWEN HEADED ON AND aNTONIO ALL ALONE AT THE FAR POST VOLLEYED IN FROM TWO yards out. This one was cming
If this result holds the Hammers should be a win from safety
Dubravka does well to block a close range Hornets volley
Hammers now Dave's lucky seven points clear of the drop zone
OH! Volley from Wellie cleared ff the line off a run and cross from Kiko Fermenia
Bird with a decent chance there from 12 yards but blasts it woefully over.
Actually tipped on to the post by Dubravka
Win at Carrow Road today and West Ham are virtually safe.
The very active Antonio volleys a cross well wide. The Hammers have been getting joy down the left
Bob did you see my comment at 7:28? Scary times here
My apologies . The match is from CR, not the London Stadium
Better from the Canaries as a cross from Jamaal Lewis is headed wide by Pukki
Time for drinkies at CR
GOAL !!! THE TOON TAKE THE LEAD AT VR FROM A CORNER. CORNER FROM LIONEL RICHIE HEADED ON BY FERNANDEZ AND DWIGHT CRYSTAL GAYLE SCORED FROM A YARD UT AT THE FAR POST
Play resumes at CR and drinkies at VR
Perhaps some signs of improvement for Derby as we head into the drinks break. Let's hope that Phillipe Cocu spiked those drinks a bit.
That goal was in Toon and name that Toon as the corner from Richie was dancing on the ceiling as sung by Dwight Crystal Gayle
I second that Bob. Roon may need to be up to some mischief
A barber shop quartet of matches with the away team one up. Both Prem goals scored at the far post from a corner due to so called marking
Curling free kick from the touch line from Jarred Bowen clips the top of the net
Doucorre concedes a free kick to the Toon
Hernandez volleys wide for the Canaries
Ben Foster forced to tip, over a curling corner from Ritchie
As I join....DERBY EQUALIZE!!
Morning Boys!
Pablo Fornals called for a foul ,on Vrancic just outside the Hammers box
YESSSSS!!!!
Derby have equalized through Jason Knight. It's only the second goal that Brentford have conceded in six games!
Good morning Dave . perfect time
Now....Wazza.... score a belter!
Free kick from Vrancic is over
Perfect timing by Dave as that's the first home goal of the day
I called it for Leeds to be in the lead by half on Thursday
I also called it that Bees would lose, Swans would lose... down to ONE POINT needed!!
Shot from Jarred Bowen just wide
Great predictions and calls for Bob to celebrate tomorrow afternoon
Good close range block by Ben Foster from St. Max who was through on goal
Pablo Fornals fouled about a foot outside the Canaries box by Buendia
Morning, Dave - great timing!
Useless effort from the Derby man
Soucek heads wide from narrow angle as he stretched to each the ball
Sibley goes for goal - a wee bit greedy there - could have played Chris Martin in.
That's a lovely scenario mate. I'd be happy with a draw here, which would reduce our goal to five points.
Tim Krul does well to turn over a volley from Soucek
Looking at the table... if Brentford draw...they will be on 76 points with 9 points available... Leeds would need TWO points after winning in Wales tomorrow
This score is fine....of course... a loss would better for Brentford
I actually want Brentford to go up this season to be the 50th different club to play in the Premier League.
I would prefer them to overtake the Baggies
Stupid free kick given up by Derby now.
The Toon break through Almiron after several Hornets shots off a free kick were blocked
I second that Dave
Stupid foul by Buendia that was anything but Noble
GOAL THE HAMMERS GO TWO UP AS IT'S ANTONIO AT THE DOUBLE WITH A HEADER OFF THE FREE KICK
Canaries going down without a fight
An LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes in both Prem matches
That's what I'm thinking, mate. Regardless, Fulham are already on 76 points now, albeit with a worse GD than Brentford, so we'd need five points.
Shot by Ryan Fredricks over after a cross from Fornals was headed away
Flappy with a decent save from Buenddia
City ban appeal will learned on Monday....depending on the decision and the FA Cup... Europe could go down to 8th place
Top five(minus City) into the Champions League
6th Europa League
7th League Cup spot(City)
8th FA Cup spot(City, United, Chelsea)
What happens if Arsenal win the Cup AND finish 8th
Would 9th go?
Hammers two up at the half
Hornets one up at the half
Ninth would not qualify. Only three EL teams . Sixth and seventh would qualify . The only difference is that the preliminary round place would go to 7th instead of 8th and 7th would need to play in the preliminary rounds
Again...Leeds run-in
Swans away
Barnsley home
Derby away
Charlton home
IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN BOB!!
That's a friendly schedule barring tomorrow's match. Leeds going up!
Second half underway from VR
Not yet. Andre Marriner just arriving on the pitch
Second half underway from CR
We're back on for the second half at Pride Park. I'd be more than happy if this were the final score.
Now from VR
The AMS....need to win!
I guess that is Derby's nickname....it says it on the stand!!
I hope so, mate - but I'm counting every point.
COME ON YOU RAMS! STING THE BEES!
This is a perfect time to douse the beehive with vinegar
I'd love a Derby win but the job for us would be the same. Fulham already have 76 points.
bloody. hell
Jamall Lewis fouls Pablo Fornals about a foot outside the box
Bloody hell - the Derby keeper has gifted Brentford a second one. A routine effort from Benrahma squirms under his body.
1-2!
PENALTY HORNETS!MATT RITCHIE FOULS KIKO
Why couldn't Ben Hamer have saved that one for next weekend?
VAR checking but it was really clumsy
VAR says penalty.Troy Deeney to take
Get it back, Rams!
GOAL !!!TROY DEENEY TIES IT UP FROM THE SPOT AS HE BLASTS IT PAST DUBRAVKA
Sorry, Bob.
COME ON YOU RAMS!
goal !!! the hammers go three up
Now Brentford have a dangerous free kick opportunity. I'm not enjoying this one bit.
Norwich's Premier League dreams slipping away now.
A long ball from the back found Antonio through on goal. His initial effort was blocked by Tim Krul then he easily headed in the rebound to complete his hat-trick
COME ON DERBY!!!
Could easily have been a penalty for Brentford there.
The Canaries are toast. They need a barber shop quartet of goals to avoid relegation today
News on Jack Charlton..he had bee diagnosed with lymphoma and had dementia
I think the Rams would be in the final playoff spot with a win today
Troy Deeney gifted possession , but shoots tamely at Dubravka from close range
Come on you Ams....Free kick chance
Our old friend Pontus gives up a free kick. Now - come on Waz - put one on a plate for someone.
Comes to nothing
A bit of a scramble but comes to nothing in the end.
Thanks for the update Dave. I thought it could be something respiratory due to many years of heavy smoking.
Wellie with a shot blocked on to the top of the bar
Nice pass from Troy Deeney as Wellie has a shot deflected inches over
If the Hornets win then Villa and the Cherries are all but down
Derby goalscorer Jason Knight goes into the book.
Ida and Todd Cantwell about to come on for the Canaries. Too little, too late
Very sad for Big Jack and his family.
BUGGER!!
Bugger! That's torn it. Benrahma scores a third and it's over and out. Thanks for nothing, Rams.
BUGGER! Bees lead 1-3 .Sorry Bob
They deserve to be rammed up the arse for this performance
Pressure on the Baggies now who travel to Blackburn today.
I think Villa and Bournemouth are already down... have they actually won a point since the restart?
Villa I think got one against the Blades
St. Max through on goal and his deflected effort is disallowed for offside
Newcastle have a goal chalked off
Those stats are correct , Dave. They're not mathematically down, but probably two losses away from that
This result will also spur on Swansea who are a point outside the promotion spots before kick off with us tomorrow. Derby are just about out of it.
A quadruple Canaries change as it's drinkies change
Also at VR
Teams back on at CR and need a score card to keep track of all the changes
Spur on?
Put the pressure on
Kind of late by Daniel Farke to be making changes .Should have done that at the half
I am hoping Blackburn beat the Baggies today and all the pressure is on WB!!
Here goes. Pukki , Buendia, Stupermann, and Hernandez off.Todd Cantwell, Lucas Rupp, Adam Idah, and Josh Martin on
Not sure about Cantwell's barnet!
Josh Martin an 18 year old academy grad on for his third Prem appearance , all as a sub and all since the restart. Played a minute vs Saints and seven at the Hornets
Antonio with his FOURTH!
GOAL!!! HAMMERS UP BY A BARBER SHOP QUARTET , SINGING YOU'RE GOING DOWN. ALL THE GOALS FROM ANTONIO. RYAN FREDRICKS GIVEN THE FREEDOM OF CR AND HIS RUN THEN A PASS EASILY DIVERTED IN BY ANTONIO FROM A YARD OUT
hAMERS APPEAR TO BE GOING FOR A FIFTH
These four goals are worth another point
They will 6 clear.... seven with GD
Antonio off after scoring a barber shop quartet. MArk Noble off as well and he's replaced by Wilshire. Haller on for Antonio
Canaries going down without putting up a fight. Sad.
Penalty to Watford!
ANOTHER PEANLTY TO THE HORNETS. MANQUILLO SAAR WAS CALLED FOR A RUGBY HOLD. REALLY STUPID
Not happy. Maybe brekkies will sort me out.
Troy Deeney to take again
This spot kick could end the relegation battle!
GOAL !!!TROY DEENEY WITH HIS SECOND SOT KICK SCORED AND THE HORNETS LEAD 2-1
WHY DO KEEPERS DIVE!!!!
Right down the middle a second time
Keepers spend all game long reacting to shots really quickly.... for pens....let's dive OUT OF THE WAY
The Cherries and Villa not officially relegated, but pretty close.
Troy Deeney with a close range effort well blocked by Jamaal Lascelles as he's on a hat-trick
Could've been a penalty for Derby there - might have thrown them a lifeline.
Agreed with what you're saying about the keepers
They're all but dead in the water.
No hat-trick for Troy Deeney as he's replaced by Clever Boy
The Cherries did get a point on Thursday and if you forgot that then Jose will be more than happy to remind you
The Cherries and Villa each with a 0-0 draw since the restart
Cherries could be relegated by Wednesday and Villa on Thursday. The season is starting to wind down
Into stoppage time at CR. An LOB blogging trio of those minutes
A quintet of stoppage time minutes at VR
Big smiles on the Brentford bench now.
It's a Hammers hammering for the Canaries
Late free kick for Derby.... don't take your time....get it in the box
Useless by Rooney...right into the keeper's arms
Brentford break...should have done better
NORWICH ARE DOWN
It's over at CR and the Canaries are officially relegated as they are on the end of a Hammers hammering. A Barber shop quartet without reply
Brentford nearly get a fourth on the break but a slip means that it comes to nothing.
Brentford about to win...still Duck's Soup for Leeds
I am off for walkies with Shad and Kath!
It's over at VR as the Hornets come from behind to defeat the Toon 2-1 and are safe by half a dozen points
The Gooner has posted the classic Carlsberg ad with the England legends as a tribute to Big Jack Charlton. Something for you to watch during the gap in the matches.
https://youtu.be/_iU9G9JApFU?fbclid=IwAR1B_r44oHYXdgQCakyIGS56e1jfhK7KTHs8FaPQH3F7epp7pAMBnIJqmw8
Seriously.....how many guards of honor do Liverpool need?
COME ON BURNLEY!!
Back from walkies as the next one on the telly is Pool vs Burnley
Agreed. I always thought it was just for the first match as Champions
YNWA being played, but it's not the same without the fans
I will check the link during the next break. Sounds interesting
Minute of silence for Big Jack
Half a dozen Championship matches about to kick off
Black arm bands being worn too.
What a year for ex Leeds men
Get promotion as a memorial
They're off from a sunny Anfield
We are off at Anfield
Get off the Liverpool numbers crap!
I think the division is weak and they are good!
That's a great way to honor Big Jack . Also Norman Hunter and Trevor Cherry. Did I forget anyone?
He's said it again!!
The only thing is how they finished so far ahead of Citeh. Otherwise I completely agree with you. When United won titles there were years when half the division was capabale of winning the Prem
The Evil Lions take an early lead at the Tigers , who are in a relegation spot
I'm back from a refreshing shower for the start of the Liverpool v. Burnley match. Not much at stake in this one.
Welcome back, Bob.Here's hoping for a Blackburn win vs the Baggies. One can hope
Tark clears a pass from Andy Robertson for a corner off a passing possession,.
Not a Big Club takes the lead at Loftus Raod
Millwall and Wednesday take early leads on Saturday
So have Forest
Forest takes the lead at PNE
No coverage of the Blackburn v. WBA match on the Plus today. Hope that Blackburn can do us a favor.
