A Sunday Hodgepodge
A very happy Sunday morning, everybody! We've got a variety of morsels to watch this morning. It all starts with some Restart FA Cup action, with Arsenal traveling to Steel City to meet the Blades. I'm hoping that the Gunners will stuff them 0--10, of course.
That's followed by Leicester v. Chelski at 11am EST and Newcastle v. Citeh at 1:30pm. If you want a better class of football, there are a couple of added Championship fixtures today featuring playoff wannabes such as Sheffield Wednesday and Forest. If you'd prefer some low level Prem action, switch over to NBC Sports Network at 11:30 for Watford v. Southampton. And join me for all the fun!

Sheffield United have been in terrible form since they "restarted," failing to score a goal in their three outings and losing two of them. Let's hope that continues.
Good Morning, Bob. How have you been?
The teams getting going now:
Sheffield United (3-5-2) Henderson; Basham, Egan, Robinson; Baldock, Lundstram, Norwood, Fleck, Stevens; McGoldrick, McBurnie.
Substitutes: Jagielka, Zivkovic, Mousset, Moore, K Freeman, L Freeman, Sharp, Osborn, Berge.
Arsenal (3-4-3) Martinez; Mustafi, David Luiz, Kolasinac; Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Willock, Tierney; Pepe, Lacazette, Saka.
Substitutes: Macey, Bellerin, Sokratis, Holding, Smith, Ceballos, Nelson, Nketiah, Aubameyang.
They're off from Bramall Lane
Bob may think this idle gossip, but Not a Big Club is one up at the half thanks to a goal by Connor Whickham
Morning, David - doing just peachy this morning. Enjoying a nice cuppa straight away.
One other Championship match today as Forest host the Terriers. In the Prem the Hornets host the Saints later this morning
Glad to hear that . I just finished my cuppa and an English muffin
We'll be in the Steve and Simon corner.
COME ON YOU GUNNERS!
Definitely, let's hope Arsenal give this lot a good stuffing.
daVBID mCgOLDRICK GOES ON A RUN DOWN THE LEFT AND HIS PASS GOES TO jACK rOBINSON, WHO HAS A SHOT DEFLECTED FOR A CORNER
Wayward header from Sideshow off the corner then the Evil Blades win another corner
Bugger! The Blades have taken a lead from a routine corner. Arsenal defense at sixes and sevens.
1-0
BUGGER! JOHN LUNDSTRAM GIVES THE EVIL BLADES THE LEAD OFF THE NEXT CORNER . MCBURR NIE HEADED IT ON THEN LUNDTRAM WITH A HEADER FROM A YARD OUT. BOTH FREE HEADERS
Lovely - the goal is ruled out for offside. Loving it
PHEW! After a VAR check it's disallowed for offside
That's justice served and swiftly, mate
Long throw comes off of Mustafi but it's a goal kick
Not a secure feeling with Mustafi and Sideshow Bob at the centre of the Gunners defense
Jack Robinson clears a pass from Pepe for a corner
What on earth was that corner from Joe Willock?
AN absolutely atrocious corner from Willock is basically a pass to an Evil Blades corner, but it's passed straight back to the Gunners
Lovely! Penalty to the Gunners! Basham upending Lacazette, or so I've read.
PENALTY GUNNERS! I MISSED IT BUT WHILE READING LA CAZETTE READ THAT CHRIS BASHAM WAS GUILTY OF A TRIP JUST INSIDE THE BOX OFF A PASS FROM KIERAN TIERNEY
VAR to check, but that was a stonewall penalty
The French newspaper man is still trying to shake off the challenge. Pepe to take now...
Lovely penalty into the right corner and Arsenal are 0-1 up!
GOAL !!PEPE GIVES THE GUNNERS THE LEAD WITH A GREAT PENALTY
Time for drinkies. . The Gunners lead. I'll "drink" to that as it's drinkies time
The other Sheffield club goes two up at Ashton Gate. Aussie international, Massimo Luongo, with the goal. Bob will not be pleased
Free kick to the Evil Blades
Free kick into the wall and cleared
Craig Burley having a bit of a rant about fans who don't like the water break.
OH! Great save by Dean Henderson from Pepe. Did well to turn around the long range effort
The corner is headed away
Is he our favorite Scottish son, mate?
John Fleck booked for a lunge. I missed it but read it in La Cazette
Long Gunners free kick headed out for a corner
Nahki Wells scores for Bristol City , who now trail Not a Big Club 1-2. That's not idle gossip
John Lundstram down with what may be an injured shoulder. It could have been that awkward fall off the challenge from Saka
He's replaced by Sandy Berge in a like for like switch
Nasty clash of heads now.
A clash of heads as McBurrnie and Joe Willock are down after a clash of heads
Both players are up as play resumes
The challenges have been so agricultural this half that you would think Sheffield is farm land
Dean Henderson palms up a cross straight up into the air but none of the Gunners could connect as it was eventually cleared away. Then Kieran Tierney drags a long range effort well wide
Decent long range save by Martinez from Olly Norwood
OH! Pass from Pepe just wide off a pass from Kieran Tierney
The Sandy Berge heads a cross from Jack Robinson well wide. A lucky seven minutes of stoppage time
Baldock fouls Joe Willock
Free kick from Pepe headed well wide by Sideshow Bob
Kieran Tierney down with a head injury
It came from a clash of heads with Baldock
Pepe goes down looking for another pen. Nothing doing this time.
The Gunners are one up at the half. They need to score more and often in the second half to seal a place in the semis
That's it for the first half. Arsenal will be reasonably pleased as they troop in 0-1 up.
Back on for the second half at Bramall Lane now.
Sheffield United going to the full retrograde bag of dinosaur football tricks now, with the long throw.
Morning Boys
Sorry...I slept in
I read you last comment...what is wrong with a long throw-in?
It is putting the ball in the box!
Back from walkies with Sparky and it seems that I didn't miss much
Good morning, Dave. How have you been?
Not big Club has won 1-2 at Ashton Gate. Bob will be disappointed to read that it's not idle gossip
A punt by a keeper! I don't care what you say...I miss it now and again
He almost scored!
SAndy Bergwins a free kick due to "Holding"
Ball in the net by the Blades but the flag is up again... pretty much the whole team is offside
Ha ha! The Blades get all excited again as they stuff the ball in the net. Offside given once again. Arsenal still lead.
Morning, Dave!
PHEW! Poor Gunners defending off another set piece . Martinez did well to save the header from McGoldrick and Egan flagged offside as he put away the rebound from a yard out
If the long ball and long throw are dangerous... DO IT
Thought Bob would be pleased. The Evil Blades on a hat-trick... of disallowed goals since the restart that is
Blades should have tied it up... huge change with a diving header
OH! Chris Basham heads wide from McGoldrick with a close range free header
Enda Stevens with a through ball that Endas up being gathered by Martinez
Nail biting in Alex?
Kieron Freeman on for George Baldock
Arteta has seen enough and is about to make a double substitution
Arsenal play it out of the back... VERY DANGEROUS!
Blades have been on top since I have joined. How was the rest of the match?
Forest vs Terriers kicked off about a quarter of an hour ago. Forest in fifth. Terriers third from bottom, but will escape the drop zone with a win or draw, which would put the Tigers in that spot
I missed the changes but read about Eddie coming on while reading La Cazette.
Also Ceballos for Joe Willock
It's been a tale of two halves. The Gunners the better team in the first half and the Evil Blades the better tam this half. The only goal was a penalty
Enda Stevens did NOT Enda up winning a corner
Time for drinkies
Drinkie poo
LOW 60s!!!
I'm taking advantage of this drinks break to refresh my cuppa - lovely.
Back from the loo to see play resuming
Doesn't look like I will outlast Shadow with his walkies... I'll have to go before the final whistle
LOL! That's a real heatwave.
Chris Wilder may need hypnotic intervention in order to get the Evil Blades to score before the season ends
Jack Robinson booked for bringing down Eddie on a Gunners break
Bob not pleased as Billy Sharp has come on as a sub. On for Chris Basham as it's striker for a centre half
Kolasinac down holding his wrist due to an agricultural challenge
Jack Robinson heads over a corner from Olly Norwood
Gunners corner cleared
That's a heat wave in Sheffield!
LOL! We don't even get that cool at night this time of the year
Kieran Tierney not happy with the decision from Paul Tierney
GOAL... bugger!
The equalizer came from a DANGEROUS long throw!
If it works...use it!
TERRIBLE DEFENDING!
Bugger! McGoldrick scores an ugly one from a retrograde long throw.
1-1
Is this going to go the same as yesterday
The favorite getting pegged back but win it anyway
Shadow wins...I am off for walkies..I will be back for extra time?
I will be listening to the match on TalkSport
GOAL !!! DAVID MCGOLDRICK TIES IT UP OFF A LONG THROW DUE TO KEYSTONE COPS DEFENDING FROM THE GUNNERS AND EASILY SCORED FROM A COUPLE OF YARDS OUT
Arsenal really under the cosh now.
OH! McGoldrick with a shot blocked then
Martinez does well to turn around a shot from Billy Sharp
In to stoppage time
A quintet of stoppage time minutes
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!CEBALLOS LOOKS TO HAVE WON IT FOR THE GUNNERS WITH A NEAR POST FINISH
Yes! Ceballos has stolen it!
sAKA FOPUND pEPE , WHO WAS TACKLED THEN cEBALLOS PICKED UP THE LOSSE BALL, WENT PAST A DEFENDER AND FINISHED UNDER THE ON RUSHING dEAN hENDERSON
Now 1-2 to the Gunners
Late cameo by Sokratis now.
A philosophers substitution as Socrates is no for Pepe
I'm sure Steve is feeling relieved
Nasty high challenge by Fleck on Kieran Tierney
It's over and the Gunners escape with a late 1-2 win after this one seemed destined for ET. CONGRATULATIONS STEVE AND SIMON!
And that's it - Arsenal are through to a semi final now.
I was at the bottom of my driveway when Arsenal scored the winner!
Not nice weather here...got a bit of rain hitting us and thunder!
Congrats Steve
So....Manchester United and Arsenal have made the semi finals... will Chelsea and City joint them?
That would be quite a semi final line up
Of course, I am a Fox and Toon fan
Not sure how I am going to watch these matches. I can either watch it on the computer or on my TV thru Apple TV. I guess that's what I will do. The Prem match will be watched on computer
Forest two up vs Hudders...hopefully they are too far back. They are ten points behind Leeds...and Bob wanted them to beat Shef Wed last week!!
Forest have Derby(Clough Derby), Fulham, Preston, Swans,Barnsley and Stoke
It is very dark here...had to turn on the lights
The reason that Forest are two up is that Lewis was Grabban both goals
Yikes Dave! . Batton down the hatches. Sunny and breezy here
Now have the match from the KP on Plus
Got the match going on my TV... no Mr. President in the Fox's line up
Leicester have never won the FA Cup...lost FOUR finals
They lost to Wolves in 49, Double winners Spurs in 61, Man U in 63, Man City in 69
That makes sense . The President said he would be staying in D.C. for security reasons
Not sure if you would know this David but I am sure Bob would... why should Bob know about the 1949 FA Cup Final
So far both quarters have finished 1-2. The same here?
I'm not sure other than the Foxes lost to Wolves. Not sure what else is noteworthy about the 1949 Final. First piece of silverware for the great Wolves teams of the '50s?
Chelsea made six changes.... still hate managers doing that crap!!!
You watch old videos of Cup Finals thru the years...IT WAS THE BIGGEST JOY TO WIN
Forest three up
We are off at the King Power
They're off from the KP
oooh Vardy almost in... bad touch
Nope...I am sure Bob will know
A chance for the Foxes fifteen seconds in , but he overran it thanks to a mistake in midfield by young Happy Gilmour
In fact, I think Bob will know the score as well
Good start by Leicester
Chelsea are all over the shop.... Leicester with another chance... they have to bury one of these
Another one!!
Willy Cabs with a full diving save off a cross from HArvey Barnes after what was Ndidi a nice pass
Chelsea still struggling in the back!!!
Let's hope thius match continues to follow the same pattern
There will be a BLUE coming out of this tie.. I am sure a BLUE will win the late one(hope not)
So it will be RED, RED, BLUE, BLUE....will we have Color derbies in the semis? In the Final? Or will it be Red v Blue
Ryan Yates has put Forest three up while Bacuna was sent off for the Terriers
At least this guy said the matches have been 'low tempo'....shame he didn't just say BORING
Interesting info one the colors of the teams. I'm sensing an all red final
Are the announcers allowed to use that word?
Hudders get a consolation goal at Forest
Jonny Evans has never been in an FA Cup winning side., Not even all those years with United
A single match? Is that what they said?
That can't be right...surely he's been in the Leicester side that won this year!
As for winning the Cup...United have only won it in 04 and 16
It's over at the City round and Forest are 3-1 winners. Forest now fourth ten pints behind Leeds. Terriers third from bottom, behind the Tigers on goal difference
The Hornets vs Saints kicks off in quarter of an hour
Very upsetting Leicester haven't taken a deserved lead!
The Foxes should have taken the lead Ndidi. Free header off the free kick Tielemans took a Cab ride straight to Willy's arms
I have my link going for the Prem match
Another chance for Leicester....modern day cross
I'm back from a refreshing Sunday morning shower and dipping into the Leicester v. Chelski Quarter Final.
Games all week this week in the Prem...except Friday
On Friday, there is a Championship match between Charlton and Millwall and the League 1 Playoff first legs
Another chance for Leicester saved....back to back corners don't come to anything....of course
Welcome back Bob
Read a couple of comments from 10:56....don't let me down
Willy Cabs did well to turn around a long range effort from Tielemans
Drinkie poos
Time for drinkies
Play resumes as Cyuncu was booked for the Foxes
Watching the Prem on the computer....hearing the PUBLIC announcer.... why? THERE IS NO PUBLIC
Nice one, Dave - it's a reference from that classic Python sketch "Mrs. Scum," if I remember right. The set-up is a quiz show with an ordinary British housewife but all of the questions are arcane knowledge.
Another chance for Leicester... Evans misses a great chance
They're off from VR
Pulisic with a shot saved by Schmeichel the junior
Kasper does well to tip oiver a shot from Pulisic
Close but not exactly Bob
What was the score?
It was a quiz show but not with an ordinary housewife?
What was couple other questions?
COME ON...GET IT
Vardy fouls Zouma
Modern day crap at VR... Southampton changed their red and white stripes to white... against YELLOW
Pedro and Lamps will be shipped out at the end of the season. Timo Werner and possibly David Alaba coming to SB
Agreed Dave. It's definitely crap
Rain falling in Herts.
Rudiger tackles Chilly
Bob has buggered off again
Atrocious corner from Chilly . He appeared to have lost his balance
Wasn't it the one where she's asked "what lives underwater and is caught in nets?"
And her response is "A Buffalo with an aqualung" and "Reginald Mordling" and "Brian Clough."
Or is it the one with Karl Marx?
He's probably looking at former Leeds loanee Alex McCarthy, looking pretty in opink
That sounds like some python quotes. I actually recognize a couple
OH! Vardy got behind the Chelsea defense but drove a shot ride of Willy Cabs
It was the Karl Marx one!!
The Hammers are the nickname of what English Football Club.
Coventry City last won the FA Cup in whhhhat year?
Not surprised you didn't get that one. That in fact was a trick question. Coventry City have NEVER won the FA CUP
Who won the Cup Final in 1949? The workers control....
No...it was Wolverhampton Wanderers. They beat Leicester 3-1
Leicester have a corner... cleared..another...no time
ONE ADDED MINUTE....THEY TOOK DRINKS!!
Ings score for the Saints
GOAL !!! SAINTS TAKE THE LEAD AT VR THANKS TO A GOAL FROM DANNY INGS. GOT A PASS FROM THE MIDFIELD WENT ON A RUN CUT IN THEN SCORED WITH A SOFT FINISH
It's 0-0 at the half at the KP
I would have never got those references, Dave. Did Bob?
Dunno
He should
Sorry to disappoint, mate. My memory's not what it used to be (sigh)....
Time for drinkies at VR
JWP misses a chance for the Saints
Oh dear!!
Do you at least recognize it!!!
Not a problem , Bob
Play resumes at VR
