First Sunday of the Season
Two games on the docket today in the Premier League today. We start way up north as Newcastle United host West Ham United. Can the Moyes Boys continue their form from last season? Will Lingard be missed? Can Brucie get the backing of the fans and have a good season with the Toon Army?
We end the day with the first battle between Big Six clubs. Will Kane play? Will Kane change dugouts?

Sad news out of Germany
Gerd Muller passed away
I never like him because he was really good but German!
Weather looks rotten in the northeast
Good morning, Dave. Thanks for getting us started.
Teams coming out....stadium has stupid music blasting...let the fans make the noise!! First time with a full house....let them be heard
The 4's finally come out and the music finally stops
Sad news about Gerd Muller. Before I started following football, but from what I read a really clinical finisher
NBC with so many commercial breaks...so poor
Great atmosphere from SJP
Hate the split screen
8 out of the 10 matches have been played on the first weekend so far....there have been no draws!
Half the teams have 3 points and the others have 0
Will the four teams still left keep it going
We are off
Morning RV David
They're off from SJP
Thanks. Good Morning Dave
Struth.... Almiron heads the ball off the line....almost a dream start for the Hammers
Hammers corner headed on and a header from Soucek headed off the line by Almiron. Nice corners from Creswell
I asked this to Bob yesterday
What is the first thing you see when you look at the new Newcastle shirt?
GOAL!!
ONE NIL TOON!!
Wilson gives the home fans a big reason to cheer!
Great cross
Great header
GOAL! Cally Wilson heads the Toon into the lead. Nice trickery by St Max schooling Declan Rice then a nice cross headed in
The first thing I noticed is the sponsor's name in a lightish blue color. It sticks out like a sore thumb
Now I'm watching on the outside TV
I think both our Uniteds are on the Cock next weekend. What is NBC thinking?
There is something else on their shirts
West Ham get the ball in the net...but a late flag goes up
Creswell ties it up off a pass from Formals, but the offside flag is raised. VAR checking. It counts. Now 1-1
I don't think it is offside.
It counts
Nice team goal that ended as a tap in for Creswell
I will see what else is on the shirts
I am loving this attacking football that EVERY game has been!
No boring passing side to side.....more of the same please!!
Of course....City will ruin it all later on
Cresswell was the one that crossed it but I don't think either player got a touch except after it was over the line
Hammers almost in again...great save
Nice solo run by Bowen then a close range Block by the keeper. At the other end a fancy back heel from call Wilson straight to Flappy
This week
Man U vs Leeds
Everton v Southampton
Next week
Southampton v Man U
Leeds v Everton
Loving this....every team is going forward!!
ATTACKING!
Agreed. I think both teams in the late match will be boring yet it's considered the marquee match of the weekend
Oh! Shot from Almiron clips the top of the bar
You're right about next week
NBC are showing Wolves v Spurs
I think both our Uniteds are on the Cock next weekend. Poor form by NBC
Do you see it on their shirts?
I won't be around for all the Saturday matches. My friend's funeral is that day
Morning, chaps - we had a bit of a lie-in after a late night. Thanks for getting us going, Dave.
Sad news about Gerd Muller.
Wolves vs Spurs might be boring. Probably because it's a return to Molineaux for Nuno
Kieran Clark heads over with a free header from a corner. Should have done better
Good morning, Bob.How are you?
Morning Bob
That will be a sad day. Will be thinking of you, Dave
I have been so impressed with every match so far this season
Teams are playing positive fast football
City will ruin the weekend!
Doing well, guys - heading into the prep week for the semester tomorrow. I'm excited to get back, although the administration has just announced another mask mandate. Not happy that we're having to do that because of the idiots who refuse to get vaccinated.
Did you see it David?
Close up of Almiron
I've noticed the same thing - it's been a great first weekend.
Not many points required for a big win on the pools.Do they still do those? Interesting stat mentioned by Dave
I haven't noticed about the shirts. The camera angle hasn't been the best
Agreed, Bob. Wishing you a great Semester. A shame the idiots are ruining it for everyone else
You will see it when you get a chance
Bob did
GOAL!!
The Toon retake the lead!!
GOAL! Jacob Murphy fires in Newcastle's second to take the lead back!
GOAL! One of the Murphy twins heads the Toon into a 2-1 lead. Nice cross from the left
I'm loving all this attacking football!!
Both sides really going at each other. Have they caught the Bielsa bug?
As things stand the drawless streak continues, as mentioned by Dave.
A pair of stoppage time minutes
You're welcome, Bob
Agreed. Nice attacking start to the season
the have ends
More of the same please
Just over by Matty Lionel Ritchie
Half time in the Toon. I'm off or a refreshing Sunday shower.
Toon lead 2-1 at the end of an entertaining half
We are off again....more of the same
Shelvey in the book
Cresswell takes a pop.....useless effort
Desmond at SJP
Great cross by Antonio!
Newcastle attacking again
Back and forth continues
Love it
oooh Cresswell almost chests the ball into his own net!
Newcastle almost in again....great stuff by St Max
The fans are loving it!!
I hope the Toon Army give Brucie some credit for this!
I hope EVERYONE is going to say how good the football has been
HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN!! Antonio hits the post....and then a penalty is called
VAR checking...there was 'contact' but he did make a meal of it
"legitimate" contact is being looked at
Penalty given
Penalty is saved....but Souchek nets the rebound
Antonio hits the post then misses a pen.....but now gets his goal
2-4
I really hope the Newcastle faithful don't complain about this
They have been great
Kane not even on the bench!!!
Newcastle still giving it a go
I'm back from the shower and what on earth is going on at SJP?!
I'm having a laugh because Johnno, who always guesses exclusively West Ham players for all categories has won one point for First Goalscorer. All the rest of us guessed someone playing in the match on Friday. He guessed Michail Antonio who has just scored. Well done, WHR!
ooh....Richie with a shot deflected wide
Well done WHR
It has been a great game
West Ham have made a few meaningless changes....don't ruin the weekend
Another change.... pathetic
They should be banned
I reckon that Moyesy just took Antonio off to give the away support a chance to sing his name.
Some boos for the Toon and Stevie Bruce at the end then. They're off to a home loss. Works for me.
Next up is the big 'un. I'm off to do the dishes before the match.
I don't think there should be any booing
They played well!
The Big Un could ruin the whole weekend for me
City are going to play their way and be BORING
Let's hope not - I'm back from the chores to settle in to enjoy this one. It should be fascinating.
The team news out of North London:
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Tanganga, Sanchez, Dier, Reguilon, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Bergwijn, Alli, Lucas Moura, Son. Subs: Doherty, Romero, Winks, Gil Salvatierra, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Gollini, Davies, Scarlett.
Man City: Ederson, Joao Cancelo, Dias, Ake, Mendy, Grealish, Fernandinho, Gundogan, Mahrez, Torres, Sterling. Subs: Walker, Stones, Gabriel Jesus, Zinchenko, Steffen, Laporte, Rodri, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva.
Referee: Anthony Taylor.
So, of course, no Kane in evidence.
On the City side, though, Grealish does start. But they've got no strikers in the building. Not sure that Spurs do, either, unless you call Son a striker.
By the way, Erling Haaland scored two and set up three goals for Dortmund this morning. Any Premier League managers watching him?
I'll remind you that I want a 4-0 win for someone. I don't really care who it is.
Oh - Grealish with his first touch nearly jinks through on goal. Fouled just outside the box.
Gundogan takes and it flicks off the wall for a corner.
Oh - close call there for Spurs. Mendy with a great cross. Lloris came for it but Fernandinho beat him to it. Just wide.
Oh - Cancelo goes just wide now. Spurs are really under the cosh early on.
I am back from a walk
Has City been boring?
"beautiful patterns" crap
Already too much possession football from City....I hate it so much
City haven't been boring; Spurs have. They're doing the Spursy thing of parking the bus and trying to launch the quick ones up front.
I can't believe that you're not more critical of Spurs - they look like the away side!
We would rather get tonked than play like that.
I am critical of Spurs but I HATE how City play.... I can't stand all the passing around
But you don't mind the defensive, hanging back and then fast break?
Decent corner by Spurs....just missed
Will this be the only draw of the weekend?
I have only seen about ten minutes of this match...it has not been end to end stuff like most of the other games this weekend. I agree Spurs aren't going for it
Spurs break....think they should have done better
Diaz gets kudos for defending but I think it wasn't him
I don't like sitting back at all!
I kind of like the new Spurs kit - it's simple without all of the crazy patterns.
Another dangerous corner from Spurs
Spurs just starting to wake up a bit. But without Kane they have no sharp edge.
31 goals in 9 matches so far
A draw in this one wouldn't surprise - think of how many times the top half teams draw with each other.
ooh....great effort from Lucas M....volley blocked on the line
I think one of my main gripes with City is the way the media talk about them....just there...had to give them credit for getting four players back to the goal to block....most teams would do that
Pep annoyed with "slow" build up.....that's what I hate
Can't stand it when my lot do it!
Yesterday was great attacking stuff. People are saying Leeds allow you to play that way...I just hope they can continue
Totally agree with you on that.
Great turn and run by LM....but the last pass was too hard!
Yes, when you play a freewheeling team like us, you have the chance to express yourself. If you play a Spurs, you have to spend all of your energy trying to break down their several walls of defensive players.
Davison Sanchez has a cuddle with Pep. Lee Dixon disapproves.
Spurs with another break...they blow it again
It wasn't a fantastic counter attack
LeSox giving love to City again
Nuno is the perfect Spursy manager - he played the same crappy way at Wolves.
Oh - how did Mahrez miss that one? The goal was gaping!
Mahrez with a big chance...missed....MOre of that please
For some reason Pep is losing his mind on the bench. Wonder what he's so animated about?
Because he's a "genius"
Spurs final ball again is crap
Another tedious fast break for Spurs. I hope they get relegated playing like this.
Oh - Son just wide with a shot from the edge of the box.
Sonaldo.....just wide!
He wants a corner
Not given
It was definitely a corner there
How did the ref miss that!!
How was that "excellent" defending from Cancelo; he turned his back on the shot! Time was when you'd get a clip round the ear from a coach for doing that.
I really hate having a 3 man booth...so unnecessary
He plays for Pep!
That's how
Grealish has a chance but dawdles on it too long before having his shot blocked. That's my only criticism of him. He does like to dwell on the ball.
Yeah - Pep would probably give him a cuddle.
First half done - predictably 0-0. That would probably be a good result for you lot.
As David said
Both our lot are on the Cock next week
Pathetic!
I am missing all Saturday for Joe's funeral
Next week's schedule
Sat
Early game on the Cock...Pool vs Burnley
10
City vs Norwich NBCSN
Villa vs Newcastle USA
Palace v Brent COCK
Leeds v Everton COCK
1230
Brighton v Watford NBC!
Sun
9
Wolves vs Spurs NBCSN
Soton vs United COCK
1130
Arsenal v Chelsea NBCSN
I can understand Leeds v. Everton being on the Cock; there are bigger matches on at the same time. Presumably Man City v. Norwich will be the televised one. If they're showing Palace v. Brentford, I won't be happy.
They are out for the second half
Come on...I want some goals and attacking football
Spurs break again....another chance blown
Useless effort from the Dane
What I have seen, City have not been that dangerous
I gave you the whole slate for next weekend
Weak effort from LM
Spurs are threatening
LM took it off DA head
GOAL!!!!
SONALDO WITH A GREAT FINISH!
They need to continue to attack with pace...DON'T SIT BACK
I think Spurs are looking good
BBC say City have 65% possession!
I think Spurs are well on top!!
Lovely crappy modern day corner by City
Sterling takes a flop
BLOODY HELL....SPURS MISS ANOTHER BREAK
Berg.....misses it!!
Arlo loving a simple cross!!
They are all so pro city....it is hopeless
A decent cross by Grealish?.....went straight to a white shirt!!
I'm back from a tasty bite of lunch. Happy to see City losing; not happy to see Spurs winning. Typical Spurs goal - fast break. Boring.
It's getting a bit chippy out there now; Lucas picks up a yellow for a foul on Grealish.
Gabby Jesus about to be introduced for Mahrez. I'd have had Fernan Torres off - he hasn't had a sniff.
Spurs have not been boring!!
They have been going forward with a lot of pace
I think you're looking thru your brother's glasses
nice free kick by City...it doesn't go it!
Arlo can't be a Leicester fan...he is so far up Pep's bum
Training pitch free kick from City. Somehow it stayed out.
No - it's Sterling making way; frustrating day for him.
Spurs only go forward in spurts when Citeh have committed men forward.
Let's see them try that crap when they're at home against a side like Burnley that also want to park the bus.
Tammy Abraham has landed in Rome....Jose's first choice striker
Steve has an irrational hatred of Spurs, like I have an irrational hatred of Sheffield United and you and David have an irrational hatred of City.
I have a rational hatred of Spurs, Leicester, Wolves and any other team that just goal hangs. It's no fun to watch.
I have more of a hatred toward Liverpool than City
I just hate how City play
I like how Liverpool play tho
This is probably the best result for you lot, but I'd have preferred a draw. Any time the top six play each other, I'm rooting for a draw. Any time the bottom six play each other, I'm rooting for a draw. Top half beating the lower half. That's the formula.
KDB coming on
KDB coming on for Mahrez now. Zinchenko also on for Mendy. So Pep is rolling the dice here.
Son with another hit
This time the deflection was spotted
You should've been a mathematician
Hello Bob and Dave. Back from breakfast and antique shopping. Delighted to see Citeh trailing
I like the teams like United and Liverpool who try to attack and commit men forward.
And of course, I love the Bielsa philosophy and how Leeds continue to look for goals even if we're 5-0 up or 5-0 down. You notice that even at 5-1 yesterday, we were pouring men forward and Raphinha could have scored a second late on. That's an honest way of playing.
By the way, Bielsa's comments after the match were basically, "we're not as good a team an Manchester United." Honest.
Bob a statto?
Welcome back, David!
Oh - KDB with a lovely effort on goal. Pushed around by Lloris.
KDB with a shot saved by Hugo
Great and refreshing from Bielsa. Wish more managers were like him
Lloris pushes around a shot from KDB
Welcome back RV David
I'm a statto? Well, I've got a good handle on Leeds stats, but you're the true stat man, David.
Thanks, Bob
Near post kick save by Lloris from Ferran Torres
Name me the 9 all time prem teams that has the letter F anywhere in its name
Still no draws?
Fulham
Okay:
1. Fottenham?
Cardiff
10 teams with 3
10 teams with 0
Hope it continues
