England Continue their World Cup Quest!

England have started their Qatar 2022 qualifying campaign in fine fettle, with a perfect record of three wins on the trot in Group I. Today, they meet Hungary in Budapest in what should be the most difficult fixture in the series against a team that is in second on 7 points. If Gareth's boys can get through this one unscathed, the rest of the campaign should go swimmingly. Let's hope that the Three Lions can continue the great form that they showed this summer in their run to the Euro 2020 final. Come on, England!

Join me for all of the action from 2:45pm EST onward on The Plus.

I agree that England has a tricky match today, but they will have next Wednesday when they play Poland, who were a tricky opponent t in the 2-1 win at Wembley without Lew

Afternoon, David. It's been a banner day for me at work. I just got a new office chair delivered. First new one in 13 years at Fredonia. I had absolutely destroyed the armrests of the old one.

I have the link on Plus on . The Magyars lined up in the tunnel.

2:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Congratulations , Bob. You definitely deserve a new chair and it took them almost as long as Congress to get that done, LOL!

I think the big match today is in Group B as Sweden host Spain in a repeat of the group match that ended 0-0 in the Euros. Spain top of the group, a point ahead of Sweden

LOL! Welcome, Steve.

Good Afternoon, Steve. Definitely odd protocol, but not sure who has what protocol anymore. It's confusing

Hungarian anthem is as dirgy as GSTQ. That was rough

2:43 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

What a surprise! Their captain is one booking away from a suspension.

2:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I guess the main news in the Euro groups of WC qualifying yesterday was Ireland blowing a one goal lead late in the match in Lisbon. Skippy scored goals in the 89th minute and the sixth minute of stoppage time in a late come from behind victory

2:44 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Great to see Lord Bamford on the bench tonight.

2:44 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sounds like the Magyar captain has more bookings than Expedia.com.

2:45 PM

Agreed, Bob. A well deserved callup to the England squad.

I was watching highlights of the last match we played against Hungary. Gerrard on a tear, and their keeper wearing sweatpants. Give us one of those please.

This is a tough match tonight. Hungary played well in the Euros

England already passing it around at the back and losing it

KNOCK IT OFF

I remember Captain Sweatpants well. He was an inconsistent keeper

2:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No reason for England to be wearing blue today

Welcome, Dave!

Stones hasn't played a minute for City yet this season...but plays for England

2:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Magyar fans may hate England because there was talk of the final being switched from Wembley to Budapest that never happened. I think the semis too

2:48 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

England doing a big of the old Geggenpressen early on. I approve. Give this lot no encouragement.

2:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Sounds like he's more than a Stone's throw from playing for Citeh

2:49 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Perhaps City would be top of the league if Pep had played Stones. Got beat by the Spuds first of the season.

2:49 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

England playing too slow... and the defenders have kept possession too long

2:50 PM

Useless effort from Mount

2:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Spain takes an early lead in Sweden and Estonia takes a shock early lead vs Belgium

2:50 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Then Sweden ties it up almost immediately vs Spain

2:51 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Would love to see an early booking for that bloke who just threw the ball away.

2:52 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I like the squad today. I thought the Magyars were busy but not very good in the WC. A big lump up front and track stars that offered little end product. A slightly more positive Burnley.

2:52 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That was better but Grealish's ball for Shaw was a bit short.

2:52 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Useless overlap pass by Grealish

2:52 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

England Shaw did win a corner off a Magyar tackle

2:52 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Maguire wasn't too far away with that headed attempted. He's just a potent weapon for us.

2:53 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Maguire heads over from the corner

2:53 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Shaw driving me nuts... can't put the ball in the arc....just place it in

Corner comes in...Maguire heads wide/high

2:53 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Agreed, Steve - I'm glad that Gareth isn't showing any respect by playing a more defensive unit.

2:53 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That Shaw was a useless England pass

2:55 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are England playing numbers 1-11
Is that always the case of qualifiers?

2:55 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The Hungarian left the foot in on Sterling there; surely a card, ref!

2:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree with you too Steve. That striker looks like a perfect fit for Sean Dyche's thugs

2:56 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It seems like it, Dave.

2:56 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

All England possession right now but they're not penetrating much. Very patient build-up.

2:57 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Magyars definitely not the innovative team of the 1950s

2:58 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Patient...ie......Boring

2:58 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Based on the early showing , the Magyars would contribute absolutely nothing if they qualify for the WC

2:59 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

England almost in but it was from Kane

Shaw refused to cross it....I HATE THE LACK OF CROSSING

3:00 PM

3:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

No you didn't miss much. It's been a boring first half

3:14 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Who had their number reassigned from 7 for you lot?

3:15 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you see that CR7 scored the two goals after the 89th minute to beat Ireland. He took his shirt off after the second goal and got a yellow. It means he is suspended for the next qualifier.... so Portugal have released him from the squad and he is heading HOME

3:15 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Maguire is penalized for a push there at the corner.

3:15 PM

Cavani was #7
He is probably going to his International number of 21 after James buggered off

3:16 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nice one-two there between Kane and Sterling but Razza needs to stay on his feet. He was looking for a foul but nothing doing from the ref.

3:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I knew about the late come from behind, but didn't know about the booking. Glad he's heading HOME. That works out well for us.

3:17 PM

Home as in Torremelinos? Lucky Skippy, he'll love a go at that Watney's Red Barrel on draught.

3:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

England should be doing more!!
Sgate is too cautious!
Go out to win matches!

Of course, in the WC semi and Euro Final.... add a second after scoring early

3:18 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree, Steve. The Magyars have to shoulder their fare share of the blame for the lack of entertainment. They seem content on qualifying for a playoff spot

3:18 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Hungary doing absolutely nowt, despite being at home.

3:18 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Chelsea's Chink with the second Belgian goal

3:19 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good job by Cavani to give it up

Again....Since Ronaldo left...he's scored 558 goals....the United #7 shirt.... 24!! That number went up a lot with Cavini last season

3:19 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Ah, Cavani. Yeah, he'll not sulk because of that. And the #7 merchandising is key for you.

3:19 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Dan James is finally coming home where he belongs.

3:19 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Time to pull the cards out, ref!

3:20 PM

3:20 PM

3:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bolla booked for nasty foul on Grealish. How is that different from at least four other Magyar challenges?

3:20 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Cavani might sulk a bit if he's relegated to playing off the bench in the Carabao. And what about Marcus Rashford. Very little room in the inn for him now.

3:22 PM

If I were Stones or Maguire, I would be screaming at the lack of delivery

3:22 PM

3:26 PM

Definitely - free kicks are likely their only route to goal. They're not showing any ambition at all tonight.

3:27 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Shaw makes a run...turns around and goes backwards...was Kane moving for him?

3:27 PM

3:28 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Tedious and slow

3:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bulgaria with a shock equalizer in Rome

3:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed, Steve. Free kicks are the Magyars only chance of scoring , so if they don't gift them any , then the Three Lions pretty much have a clean sheet, but need to score at the other end

3:30 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nearly an opening there between Mount and Grealish - just not clicking right now.

3:30 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What was Mount trying there!!!

3:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A pair of stoppage time minutes
