Second Sunday
Hiya, boys - I'm posting this in the wee hours so that we're all set for tomorrow morning's matches. Not sure when I'll be able to join in as, on top of everything, we're hosting a garden party for the neighbors tomorrow afternoon. So, what's on tap. Well, it's newly-promoted Forest v. West Ham, two more sides trying to bounce back from opening day losses. Then it's the marquee match of the weekend - a London Derby between table-topping Spurs and Chelsea. I might have it on in the background, while getting ready but I'll join in while I can. Cheers!

Morning, chaps! I'm just settling in with the official breakfast of the LOB for the start of the early one. I'd take a draw in this one.
The new look Forest against the old look Hammers:
Nottingham Forest (3-4-2-1) Henderson; Worrall, Niakhate, McKenna; Williams, O’Brien, Mangala, Toffolo; Lingard; Johnson, Awoniyi.
Substitutes: Hennessey, Biancone, Cook, Mbe Soh, Surridge, Mighten, Cafu, L Taylor, Hammond.
West Ham (4-2-3-1) Fabianski; Coufal, Zouma, Johnson, Cresswell; Soucek, Rice; Bowen, Fornals, Benrahma; Antonio.
Substitutes: Areola, Randolph, Ashby, Coventry, Downes, Lanzini, Cornet, Scamaca.
Referee Robert Jones.
Hey Bob
Like you, I probably will have the matches on in the background.
Free kick chance for Forest....YIKES!!
So, I need a three nil win for either team to get United off the bottom!!
I thought it looks weird but I only just got a text from Matt sending me an article
Forest have no sponsors on their shirts!!
They haven't agreed a deal with anyone yet!
West Ham's turn for a free kick...this was far closer
Good Morning Bob and Dave. Just woke up. Here to join you for the matches.
Forest have a free kick . Declan Rice booked for a foul on Lindy
Nice chip into the box.... OG tried to score in his own net
Well saved
Morning David
Flappy does welt tip over a header from his own teammate, Jarred Bowen to prevent an OG
Good Morning Dave
You used to get up earlier when you weren't in the same time zone!! Retirement has made you more relaxed!!
I like how Forest get the ball in the box!
Who cares that it is "speculative".... a goal could come from it
Awonyi heads just wide off a cross from Nerco Williams. Forest with another good chance
Celict 5-0 up at Killie
Agreed, Dave. The mountain air makes it easier to sleep more soundly. Has retirement had the same effect on you?
Yikes! That puts Celtic top ahead of Rangers on goal difference
Evil Blades took the lead at the Riverside then the Teesiders tied it up
Morning, guys - great to have you on board. Forest look really sharp so far; Hammers not so much.
I guess it has but I seem to be going to bed earlier and waking up earlier!
Good Morning, Bob. Agreed. Forest have looked the better side. I don't see them going down based on this performance
WOW! I had that sleep schedule when I first retired, but it changed about a year later
Time for drinkies and 0-0 at the City Ground. Forest the better side in the first home Prem match since 1999
Play resumes
Forest broke aNd Agony throughout but his shot blocked by Flappy as the offsdide flag rose
Sorry Awonyi
Frank Clark in the stands
I think he was in charge when I saw Ipswich v Forest in '97. Gone home to visit the family during Spring Break. Jon wasn't born yet, Matt was 1 and Tom was 4
Day before we were supposed to go home, Tom had an ear infection and we got a doctor's note saying he couldn't fly. Aw shucks....had to stay for another week!!
I was able to go to Wembley during the following midweek.
Those were my last trips to Portman Road and Wembley
The late offside flags are ridiculous!
Great memories Dave. I think that's when Forest were a yoyo club. I think he was a p[layer with Forest and Newcastle.Interesting that he joined Forest as a Second Division team then in the Twilight of his career won the League, European , and League Cups with them. He looks good for being nearly 80.
I guess we would say FOBers in the stands today. Alo Gary Birtles in the stands.. Not sure if I missed any.
I take it back, it wasn't Forest. Clark was in charge of Man City then
So it was a Championship match vs City.
Not too far wide from Antonio after a deflected shot from Ben Rama made it to him
That sounds right with Citeh being relegated in '96. He was in charge of Forest before Cithe. I think he was sacked by Forest about a year earlier
Just noticed... A United player is reffing today!!
He's wearing their kit!
I can't see either team winning 3-0 so United will be rock bottom and have Liverpool up next
Nice close range block by Flappy from Neco Williams after a cross was headed on
GOAL ! BEN RAMA GIVES THE HAMMERES THE LEAD AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY
West Ham take the lead!
Forest want a free kick but wasn't given
Forest stopped!!
I hate player who tell the fans to zip it
Will it stand?
GOAL! And just like that, the Forest defense falls asleep and the Hammers capitalize. Typical Moyesy stuff.
0-1!
He's been asked to go to the screen.
They always change their mind... it happens again!
Still nil nil
Robert Jones to check the monitor. Nice run by Antonio as Ben Rama started the move and finished it. Nice through ball by Declan Rice. Disallowed for the basketball type pick play by former Forest player., Antonio
I think that was the right call
Dave just read your comment about no Forest sponsor on the shorts. Last time I saw that on a team shirt was around 1979.
Great move
Great cross
Horrible miss by Lingard
But Forest score!!!
GOAL! AWONYI GIVES FOREST A LATE LEAD
Awful attempt by Jessie!!
Great finish....right off his knee!
YOKES! LLINDY MAY GET CREDIT FOR AN ASSIST THENM AWONYI GIVES FOREST THE LEAD. NICE RUN DOWN TYHE LEFT. NOT SDIURE WHO MADE THE RUN
Two more Forest goals...United off the bottom!!
half time
Forest one up at the half. Hammers second from bottom
West Ham start of the front foot.... great shot...off the underside of the bar...good save by Hendo The Baby on the rebound
West Ham turning the screw
TWO NIL FOREST
Against the run of play!!
One more goal needed for United!!!
He will be offside I think.... who knows the rules anymore!
He's off
Back from walkies and see that Flappy saves a header from a Forest corner
Looked like Mangala with the header
Forest up to tenth place and Hammers second from bottom
Blackburn go top by kicking off vs the Baggies, ahead of Tigers and Hornets on goal difference.
OH! Off the underside of the bar from Ben Rama . Almost crossed the line. nearly 1-1
OH! Great save by Dean Henderson from Sopucek on a Hammers break. Forest wanted a foul from a Ben Rama tackle. Not off the bar, but off of Neco Williams's arm on thew line. Will int be a penalty and sending off?
Robert JHoens going to the monitor . I think it's yes to both questions
Ref to the screen....penalty to the Hammers
McKenna with a yellow....surprised it isn't a red
PENALTY HAMMERS AND A BOOKING FOR SCOTMCKENNA, NOT WILLIAMS. NOT SURE WHY HE'S ARGUING. A STONEWALL PENALTY
Mwe too, but as per the rules it's the right call. I was expecting a red too
Rice to take.....SAVED
Declan Rice to take.
A POOR PENALTY SAVED BY DEAN HENDERSON
Don't like Henderson anymore
He is so arrogant
Will a run in the Forest side be enough for Henderson to play his way into the England squad for the World Cup?
Hearts one up vs Dundee United. Top three same as last season three matches in to the season. Lawrence Shankland with the goal against his former club
Craig Gordon in the Hearts goal turns 40 on NYE
Gianluca Scamacca on for Fornals.
Sorry for Antonio. Not sure who came on for Fornals
Lanzini for Fornals
Time for drinkies
I am back after some Kathy's delish French Toast
Yum yum
I'm just out of the shower and see that Forest are 1-0 up in the second half now - fantastic!
Evil Blades take a 1-2 lead at the Riverside thanks to an OG. NO up to fourth area dof the Evil Lions on goal difference. Both teams are my picks for promotion
Welcome back, Bob and Dave. Great brekkie , Dave
Hammers unlucky not to be leading . Have dominated the second half,. Ben Rama with a shot off the underside of the bar and Declan Rice had a penalty saved
Stev Cookm on for the injured Niakhate. A winning recipe?
Ben Rama wins a corner of off Neck Williams off a solo run
Chance cleared off the line by Williams
OH! Header from Zouma from the Ben Rama corner cleared off the line by Neco Williams for another corner
Blackburn takes the lead vs the Baggies and look to end the weekend top of the pops
Cafu on for Mangala . Portuguese ,not the Brazi legend
Jarred Bowen hears the blues p-layed by a Coronet as he's replaced by Max
Max on for his Hammers debut as he's playing for a different claret and blue team
Teesiders tie it up vs the Evil Blades. Now Desmond
Evil Blades down to ninth place and Teesiders now 19th!
Lanzini with a long range shot deflected for a Hammers corner
SOucek wide with a back heeled volley off the corner
7 added minutes
Moronic!
Dave's Lucky seven minutes of stoppage time
Neco Williams down taking one for the team. Meat and potatoes?
STOP THE CLOCK!
As I have said before, I have always been in favor of never knowng exactly when time is up. I remember in college, the clock was there and if the ball was in the wrong half with five seconds to go, people would just walk off
BUT this is getting ridiculous!
Stop the clock and let everyone see. I would then follow rugby's lead. The ball is still in play after the final whistle. The game ends when the ball goes out of of play! If you have the ball, kick it out and you win. If you are losing you can keep the ball and keep trying
Brennan Johnson booked for stupidly kicking the ball away to prevent a quick Hammers throw
Now Sam Surridge with a cheap booking as Soucek was about to take a throw and that's it as Forest win their first Prem home match in 23 years, defeat ng Hammers 1-0
Hammers unlucky not to get at least a draw
Forest hold on
Now United need to have Palace get twonked tomorrow to get off the bottom. A three nil win would do
USA have muted the sound
Into the seventh minute of stoppage time at the Riverside and U.S. international Matt Hoppe on for former Gunners trainee, Chuba Akpom for the Teesiders
Agreed, Dave. Not a Pool fan but I would take that result. Johnno joining us in the drop zone
Now for the late one
The big match of the weekend
Chelsea XI: Mendy, James, Silva, Koulibaly, Loftus-Cheek, Kante, Jorginho (capt), Cucurella, Mount, Havertz, Sterling.
Substitutes: Arrizabalaga, Pulisic, Chalobah, Broja, Hudson-Odoi, Chilwell, Ziyech, Gallagher, Azpilicueta.
Tottenham XI: Lloris (capt), Royal, Romero, Dier, Davies, Sessegnon, Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Kulusevski, Son, Kane.
Substitutes: Forster, Doherty, Sanchez, Richarlison, Gil, Perisic, Tanganga, Moura, Bissouma.
It's over at the Riverside and the Teesiders vs Evil; Blades finishes desmond. Evil Blades ninth and Teesiders 19th
Spurs need a three goal win to go top and Chelsea a five goal win. Looks like Citeh will be top head into next weekend
Just a reminder I need Tuchel and Conte to have a bustup to get a couple of points.
Blackburn two up vs the Baggies., Blackburn top and the Baggies one point and one spot above the drop zone
Fairly happy with the early result - more pressure on David Moyes.
Baggies pull one back at Ewood Park, trailing 2-1. Move ahead of Luton on goals scored
Hammers were unlucky not to get at least a draw. The loss vs Citeh was expected , but not today. At least they were competitive ,unlike United
Hearts three up vs Dundee United. Top three in the SPL same as last season only three matches in
I am back as the teams walk out of the Bridge tunnel
I'm predicting a draw in this one - don't like either side. Really boring.
Again, USA muting the sound
Welcome back. We're ready for the marquee match of the weekend. Will it really be that great?
A draw would suit me , but a managerial bustup in this match nets Yours Truly a couple of PPP points.
I don't think Spurs are boring. Their front three are really dangerous
I think Chelsea are boring
Kai the Guy with a new haircut. Bob must approve
Bloody commercials...get none of the atmosphere
Chelsea definitely boring. Interesting to see how Spurs play as this will be a bigger test than Saints
I don't think either team will win by enough to overtake Citeh on goal difference
We are off
They're off from SB
Anyone rooting for me to get a couple of PPP points?
Interesting that Chelsea's first two games are against managers that they fired
Second consecutive Spuds match against a former Chelsea boss. The schedule or a sign that Chelsea go through managers really quickly
Spurs with a chance to break...first ball ruined it
I think Roman fired all the Chelsea managers during his tenure. I don't think any resigned . Is that correct?
Wasted free kick by Son
Free kick from Number One Son in to the crowd
Don't think they did
Wasn't Rafa just an interim?
That's true . I forgot about him and Gus Hiddinck. I think all the permanent managers were fired. Roman was the Steinbrenner of footie.
I just checked and saw that there are midweek Championship matches. I wonder if I should wait till Wednesday to post the standings or do you all want them tomorrow evening?
How about Ancelotti?
Won the double
I think Ancelotti was sacked the following season shortly after 0-3 home defeat vs Brucie's Black Cats . Sound correct?
In the Dutch league Ajaz won 6-1. Doesn't sound like they miss Ten Hag. I still don't get how he was qualified to be United manager.Anyone can do well at Ajax with the players they have
Ex Spur with a hat-trick in that match
Havertz hits one just wide
OH! Just wide by Kai the Guy
Absolutely a save there
Nice volley!!
Koulibaly with a great goal
GOLA ! THE NEW SIGNINGS COMBINE ! THE SHOT FROM KAI MUST HAVE TAKEN A NICK AS IT WAS FROM A CORNER. CUCARELLA CORNER SUPERBLY VOLLEYED IN BY KOULABAILY
Chelsea up to third place. Need three more goals without reply to overtake the Gunners on goal difference.
Spurs with a chance....Sess gets stopped
OH! bGreat block by Mendy y Ryan Sess who got behind the Chelsea defense
Next United boss? How aboutHow about Thomas Frank of the Bees or Forest's Steve Cooper?
Number On e Son clears for a Chelsea corner
Almost a second volley for the new boy
The corner headed on by Mason Mount and this Koulabaily volleys well over
Drinkies
Now time for drinkies
In the eighth minute of stoppage time at Ewood Park.
BLOODY RIDIICULOUS
The Tempremental Teuton is losing his temper
Now in the ninth minute at Ewood Park
Play resumes. Drinkies lasted the normal two minutes.
What happened to Bob? M&M keeping him busy? Bob busier than Hugo Lloris
Finally over after a dozen stoppage time minutes at Ewood Park . Blackburn hangs on to defeat the Baggies 2-1 and remain top of the Championship
Bob was Bobasaures.... Spurs....boring
Reese James booked for pulling back Number One Son
LOL, Dave! We thought Chelsea would be boring but it has been the Spuds
Mounted corner headed away by the first man, Hoy Berg
A Tongue N Cheek cross from Jorginho just too far in front of Ruben.Chelsea could have gone two up.
A trio of stoppage time minutes. This actually sounds about right
We can Conte on Antonio rattling some teapots at the half
Chelsea one up at the half
Teams out for the second half
The second half is un derby from SB
A stat you may find interesting . No second half Prem goals since the 10 AM matches. I think it could be the players tiring due to the heat
Son almost in
Wusses
Them talking about Oldham. The first Prem team to go out of the league
They beat Dorking 3-2
Of course, Oldham won United their first title in 26 years
Very disappointed with this match and especially Spurs...of course....they're not 4-0 down after 34 minutes tho
That is true.So far United the worst team in the Prem .
This match has been really boring
Rich Arlison on for Ryan Sess
Richarlson on for his Spurs debut after serving is ban last week
LC and then Sterling take too much time
I still think Sterling stinks!
Kane breaks....and misses the target.....well it is August
Chances for both teams in the span e of a few seconds and both off target. First Sterling then Harry Kane
Hopefully they hit the target in November and December in the WC
Mendy booked for time wasting. Sort of early for that
Both guys said it is a great game....not in my book
Has started to lighten up a bit in the last few minutes
Spurs first corner....modern day crap
Gets another one
Just saw what you posted about Oldham defeating the Dorks 3-2. Were three up and held on to win 3-2
Next corner...sets up a break for Chelsea
PUT THE BALL IN THE PROPER SPOT!
You're a professional. The ball is standing still!
Bringing on Rich Arlison will make Sp[urs a more attacking side and they basically have to attack being a goal down.
Doesn't look like there will be a touchline bust up
Still no secand half Prem goals since the 10 AM matches yesterday. Is it the heat?
LC is getting a start for Chelsea...he has been a bit player for ages
When is Connor Gallagher going to get a game. Why go back to Chelsea and not play! He was in the England squad!
No...they just suck
GOAL for SPURS
GOAL ! HOY BERG TIES IT UP FOR THE SPUDS . WELL PLACED SHOT FROM 25 YARDS OUT
What is going on on the dugout!
TT mad with the challenge from before
The foul was ages earlier!
Chelsea want the goal disallowed for a challenge boy Romero on Kai the Guy
Havertz in the book.....benches all on the pitch
Water break now
Both managers in the book too
I should have picked those two
Agreed, Dave. Doesn't make sense. The managers are not out, arguing but the assistants are. I think one of the PSudsd assistants is getting booked. In between there's a drinkies break
I did pick those two but I think it was the assistants that we're arguing. I don't think I get credit for that. I need to watch the replay
This is going to added TWENTY minutes of added time
Just checked . The foul had no bearing on the goal.Chelsea won tackle in their box then Jorginho was caught faffing in the box by Son, who passed to Ben Davies to Hoy Berg for the goal. Chelsea doesn't have a case
