The First Saturday of the Season
I'm up in the middle of the night feeding the twins and looking forward to the matches this morning. We start with the new look Liverpool turbo charged by the addition of striker Darwin. That's followed by the 10am fixtures, including my beloved Leeds United's home opener against Wolves. Finally, the late one is Everton hosting Lamps' old buddies Chelsea.
I'll be distracted by two infants but I'll look forward to chatting. Join me?

Good Morning, Bob. Up for the early match, but overslept a tad. Time to brew a hot pot of coffee.
Andy Robertson put through with just Rodak to beat then his shot blocked by the keeper then Luis Diaz scores with a curler from the edge of the box , but disallowed for offside by Robertson
Then a Tete a tete on Luis Diaz by Kenny results in booking for the Dutchman
Morning, David - great to have you on board for this first Saturday. We're just getting going here at The Cottage. How's it been at Craven Cottage?
The teams on display here:
Fulham: Rodak, Tete, Adarabioyo, Ream, Robinson, Reed, Joao Palhinha, Reid, Andreas Pereira, Kebano, Mitrovic.
Subs: Solomon, Leno, Duffy, Mbabu, Cairney, Rodrigo Muniz, Francois, Harris, Stansfield.
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Firmino, Diaz.
Subs: Gomez, Milner, Adrian, Elliott, Nunez, Carvalho, van den Berg, Bajcetic, Chambers.
Referee: Andrew Madley (West Yorkshire)
Bad boy Mitrovic is talking himself into trouble already.
GOAL! MITROVIC GIVES THE COTTAGERS THE LEAD
The move started at the back then Neeskens Kebano for once playing like the great one played Kenny Tete wide right then his cross was headed ion at the far post by Mitrovic
Good morning, Bob. Sorry I missed your posts. Cottagers more than holding their own. Must be the "twin " threat
Bloody hell! Bad boy Mitrovic has sent the Cottage into delirium finishing off a long cross at the back post.
1-0 Cottagers!
In the Championship James Mclean has given wigan the lead at CR
The goal scored by the person lectured by the ref and assisted by the player who is in the ref's book
Andy Robertson collected a long diagonal pass then his cross just in front of a couple of players ready to divert the pass in
Bob, how are the twins this morning? You and Steve must be happy so far
Oh - nearly an equalizer there. Robertson got behind the back but his ball in was a bit overcooked. Neither Bobby Chompers or Diaz could get onto it.
Not a great start of the season for Norwich.
OH! Off the post by Luis diaz then a shot from Thiago straight to Rodak
How are you this morning, mate? A bit sleepy?
Agreed, Bob. I was going to pick the Canaries to be promoted. Glad I didn't
Steve was cock a hoop about yesterday's result and I'm brimming with excitement for the Leeds match.
The twins slept well last night, so we're reasonably well rested for today.
I considered it, too, given their habit of yoyoing back and forth, but they haven't rebuilt the way that, say, Burnley have.
Stupid handball by three Presidents to end a long Pool possession
Agreed, Bob. That's why I didn't pick the Canaries. Glad you're well rested.
AN LOB blogging duet of stoppage time minutes
Cottagers one up at the half. It's the twin influence
Half time arrives and the Cottagers will be delighted to troupe in 1-0 up. Liverpool really out of sorts.
Liverpool with 72% possession in the first half. It's meaningless
Back for the second half after a trip to the bog
Harvey Elliott , who spent a season on loan at the Cottage, warming up since Thiago is struggling physically on the pitch
Klopp to make a double substitution. Harvey Elliott for Thiago and Charles Darwin Nunez for Bobby Chompers in a battle of Survival of the Fittest
OH! Off the post from Neeskens Kebano then cleared for a Cottagers corner. Johann would have been proud
Bobby Reid straight to Allison after the Cottagers high press went to work off the corner
Milner on for Fab since Pool have been anything but . Bob will be pleased that's plus one for the LUFC Academy factor
Survival off the Fittest? Anything but as it's an atrocious pass from Charles Darwin Nunez after the Cottagers had their pocket picked
Good close range block by Road off a cheeky back heel from Charles Darwin Nunez. The big Slovak keeper was the fitter in the popular theory
GOAL!~ CHARLES DARWIN NUNEZ TIES IT UP FOR POOL
Nice first time passing from Pool then the ball played wide right to Salah and then tapped in from close range for Nunez's first Prem goal. The goal stands after a VAR check to see if Salah was offside
Meanwhile Man Aarons ties it up for the Canaries vs Wigan
Israeli international, Manor Saloman , on for Neeskens Kebano
OH! Shot from Charles Darwin Nunez cleared off the line by Tim Ream
AM wondering if the Pool goal will be credited as an Adarabiayo OG
OH! Cross from Milner headed down by Charles Darwin Nunez then just wide by Luis Diaz. Took a nick for a Pool corner
Rodak tyips over a header from Salah, but flagged offside
PENALTY COTTAGERS! Mitrovic tripped ion the box. VAR to check
Tripped by Van Dyke. I think this will stand
He did fall easily. I don't think VAR will se this as a clear and obvious error
Mitrovic to take the penalty
GOAL ! MITROVIC SCORES FROM THE SPOT AND NOW ON A HAT-TRICK AS HE GIVES THE COTTAGERS A 2-1 LEAD WITH A WELL PLACED PENALTY
Mitrovic now GBB. I don't think anyone picked him
The final roll of the dice from Carvalho and another ex Cottager as Carvalho just signed , on for Luis Diaz
Harrison Reed clears for a Pool corner taken by TAA then headed away and volleyed over by Carvalho recently signed by the Cottagers
GOAL! DESMOND AS SALAH TIES IT UP FOR POOL
Long diagonal skims off of Tim Ream and flicked back b y Charles Darwin Nunez for an easy tap in for Salah
Salah has scored in half a dozen consecutive opening g day Prem matches. The first player to do so in the Prem era
Just finishing up feeding the twins now. It's been an absorbing match at the Cottage. Good harbinger of the quality that we're going to see this season.
I've been very impressed by Nunez, who seems like a real threat every time the ball is played up the pitch. A goal and an assist so far for him - and he was a sub today.
Tom Cairney on for former United player, Andreas Perreira
Welcome back, Bob. Sounds like you and the Cottagers midfield players had the same duties .
A quintet of stoppage time minutes
Really important few minutes here for Liverpool's season. They can't really afford to drop points at Fulham.
Bobby Reid picks up a cheap booking for blocking Andy Robertson from taking a throw in
Agreed. That's advantage Citeh. I'm sure they'll win handily on their visit to your house. Pep enjoys visits to yours and Kate's house, LOL!
You're right about that in that Mitrovic is a baby who needs to be fed. He's been as productive this morning as the twins have been in their diapers.
Tricky opening fixture for them with the Hammers.
Shane Duffy on for Bobby reid then off the bar from Hendo
Oh - Hendo nearly won it for Pool there with a curling shot off the bar!
No Silva lining for Dave as Marco did that to ruin Dave's day.
BOOM BOOM!
Nice analogy, Bob
It's over and it finishes Desmond at the Cottage . Dropped points by Pool on opening day
Time to take Trooper walkies ahead of the 10 AM matches
Morning Boys
Woke not long ago...didn't want to jinx it the match by tuning it in... glad to see Liverpool dropping points
Mitrovic is on my fantasy team!
Is Fulham's new stand done?
I see it is slightly done
Wonder if dressing rooms will be in it
Norwich had to come from behind to equalize at home to Wigan...into injury time
No yoyo this year?
Klopp has a preseason match after the season has started!
He will complain about starting too early and his teams not having enough minutes
Watching the goals.... a good cross and a header... whoda thunk it
I'll think I'll be watching the Goal Rush match on the Cock
I'm back for the big 'un. Elland Road is rocking and rolling today. After a last day of the season rescue, the Jesse Marsch era starts in earnest today, with a home match with Wolves. The pre-season performances have been promising, with a real American flair. My patented survival rubric means that we don't need much from today, but an opening day win would be a real tonic. Come on, you Whites! #MOT!
Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and Rasmus Kristensen are all in the Leeds team.
Leeds United are the new Dallas Cowboys
AMERICA'S TEAM
The starting XI: Meslier, Struijk, Koch, LLorente, Kristensen, Adams, Roca, Aaronson, Harrison, Rodrigo, Bamford.
I have tuned in 5Live....they are at SJP
I would luv it if we picked up a few American fans. I want to see my students wearing the white kit.
5Live never gets blacked out anymore...love it
They now have the late Saturday match
Back from walks . I have the match from ER on the telly and goal rush on the computer, which is now Spuds vs Saints
You could give them an automatic A in the class for it!!
Bournemouth 1 Villa 0
Good Morning, Dave. Hope you are well rested and feeling better
Welcome back David
I am so annoyed about how I couldn't connect to the match on Roku
Podense with a go from distance. Harmelssly wide but we've had a slow start so far.
I have just ventured downstairs for the first time in a while
Yikes! Just saw it Scrappy goal from Thomas Jefferson Lerma
That as the Cherries first evert fixture as a top flight team. Villa won 0-1 and were relegated. Repeat for the Cherries this time
That's a sign of progress. Hope you continue to progress
Canaries vs Wigan finished 1-1
Black Cats take the lead at Ashton Gate. That's not idle gossip
I will have to wait to comment...I am getting scores before the Cock
Burnley losing to Luton
BUGGER! WLVES TAKE THE LEAD. SORRY, BOB
There is the goal I heard
Bugger! A sloppy goal by Podense and we're behind early on.
A comedy of errors as Leeds poorly defended a throw oin the Wolves half then a long clearance and really Ayling defending from Luke as he was turned by Ruben Neves then his cross was headed down by wang Chung tonight then Danny Podence volleyed into the ground and off the underside of the bar
Cardiff takes the lead at the Mad Stad and in an Evil Fixture between two of my promotion picks the Evil Blades take the lead vs the Evil Lions
Thanks, guys - it's early doors.
Dave will be interested to note that the starting keeper for Saints today was on loan at Pompey last season and was their player of the year and earned his first caps for Eire.
Bristol City ties it up vs Black Cats. Not idle gossip
Southampton take the lead!!
JWP with a nice finish!
PUP
GOAL ! JWP VOLLEYS SAINTS IN TO THE LEAD . VOLLEYED INTO THE GROUND AND LANDED IN THE CORNER
Aaronson wins a first corner. Comes to nothing.
Nice cutback by Djnepo and great volley by JWP
Better from us. Wolves caught us napping but hopefully we'll work our way back into this one.
Almost ten minutes later, Goal Rush shows the Wolves goal
ose Sa did turn around d a near post shot from Brendan Aaronson
Oh - nice turn by Aaronson and his deflected shot is out for a corner.
Not nice of Goal Rush to ignore our updates
5Live said the refs are supposed to clamp down on time wasting....wonder if they will
QPR takes the lead vs the Teesiders
Wolves are starting the gamesmanship already. A lot of faking going on.
Roca wins a free kick. Let's have it!
Eastleigh takes the lead at promotion favorites, Wrexham
Do you remember what was a quirk of last season's opening fixtures?
Ram Kristensen down off what Sa was a stray arm from Jose
Big shout for a penalty there. Kristensen was flattened by Sa.
One of the boys just said Leeds should have had a penalty!
I don't remember. I Was at my sister in-law's RV in Fredericksburg. I guess it was Spuds defeating Citeh
It was a a stay arm by Jose Sa on new signing Ramus Kristensen. I think it was unintentional
Nope, do you remember Bob?
Do you remember anything Pre-M&M?
Bristol Rovers two up at Richard Burton. Joey Barton says that's not idle gossip
Aaronson wins another corner - he's been lively.
Spurs equalize
Great cross and header
Jack picks up a yellow for a professional foul.
GOAL !RYAN SESS OPEN HIS SPUDS ACCOUNT HEADING IN A N ICE LOIN G DIAGONAL CROSS FROM KULESEVSKI
Is Aaaronson getting props from the fans?
What was the quirk, Dave - I don't remember?
Just showed the Leeds could be pen....looked like one to me
There were no draws
Half the teams had 3 points and other half had none
Yeah - he's a quick fan favorite. I think that Tyler Adams may take a while.
Millwall two down at Bramell Lane
Looked like one to me, too, mate.
Evil Blades two up vs Evil Lions in an evil promotion six pointer
YES!!!
Rodrigo scores!!
The first Leeds goal in the M&M Era!!!
WAY HAY! RODRIGO TIES IT UP AT ER!
Was I too early with the update
That Sa was a gift by Jose but Bob won't be complaining. Congrats, matre
Did you kiss Maddox or Macy first with that goal?
No I think you were only a few seconds early. Sounds like you're calculations have been accurate
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!
Rodrigo levels it with a drive that Sa couldn't keep out. 1-1!
I forgot about the no draws on opening day. Great stat
Did you hear what Dean Henderson said about United?
Said he was promised the #1 for United. A wasted year... "Criminal"
He got COVID....DeGea deserved his spot
GROW UP!
Maddox got the first kiss on the forehead because he's in my arms.
Bob must be thinking that Bruno will want to drink some Lager after that equalizer
Agreed, Dave,. There are no guarantees of starting in the Prem. How naive and childish of Dean
Nice response, Bob
Great for Maddox... Macy gets one for their next goal....be fair!
Kate gets one for their third!
QPR two up vs Teesiders . reading Railroad ties it up vs Cardiff
I agree, Dave. That's what I calll being fair
Steve should get a kiss if Leeds score a fourth.
Saturday 3pm kick offs and BOTH Celtic and Rangers playing
Stunning
I was trying to save Bob from that....but four goals....he'll do it
Bolton takes the vs Wycombe while not a Big Club takes the lea vs the Fake Dons ion what might be another evil promotion six pointer
Spurs take lead
Son cross and Dier goal
GOAL! DIRE FOR THE SAINTS AS ERIK GIVES THEMA COME FROM BEHIND 2-1 KLEAD
Any striker would have been proud of that goal. Nice cross from Numbner One Son and nice stopping header in the corner
LOL, Dave. Steve deserves a kiss too..
Agreed . it is rare to see both Old Firm teams playing at 3 PM on a Saturday afternoon
Leeds need to get moving for the kissorama
Great move by Joelinton....could have scored!
My man!
Sutton United on top at Donny Trump. Is that a primary race?
That was a nice solo run, but not a Nocito type finish
Klopp said the pitch was too dry
What a whiner!!
I used to like him!
If Leeds score six then you and I will be owed a kiss
Really pathetic from Klopp
Should have had the players change their studs
Cheers David
Potters take the lead vs the Tangerines
Glad to help
Is that Wrexham show available to watch yet?
Is the Arsenal?
Is Steve going to watch?
I never watched the City one
Very Smart match going on today in League 1
Oxford vs Cambridge
No one has been smart enough to score yet!
Bazunu in the Saints goal with a nice save showing what he learned last season with Pompey
I haven't watched the shows yet, but need to
Ipswich take the lead in a Forest of Green
That Oxford vs cambridge match sounds like an episode of python based on your description
QPR 3-0 up at Loftus Road vs Boro
Sounds like Ipswich is playing in my backyard. Are they?
Blackburn takes the lead at the Swans
Could be!
Chris Wilder will be less amusing than Gene during his halftime talk
Bristol Rovers three up at REichard Burton. Joey Barton says that's not idle gossip
Boro(a promotion pick of mine) get a goal back
teesiders score to pull it back to 3-1 at Loftus Road
Two of my promotion picks are facing each other: Evil Baldes vs Evil Lions
Posh two up vs Morecambe and None Too Wise
Blades miss a pen!
Still leading 2-0
Bristol Rovers three up because they have been a man up since the first minute
Bristol Rovers four up at ten man Richard Burton
Apparently, Leeds should have scored again
Var being an idiot
Bolton two up vs Wycombe
Typical of VAR
