A Final Sunday Doubleheader Before the World Cup
I
It's the final two matches of the world Cup, starting with the Seagulls vs Villa , which is currently 1-1 early in the second half and concluding with the Cottagers vs United. The big news from the Cottage is that Mitrovic is out injured with a broken foot, presumably for tripping over M&m's toys. Join me for all the action before a week of inactivity

GOAL ! DANNY INGS AT THE DOUBLE HAS GIVEN VILLA A COME FROM BEHIND 1-2 LEAD
Fiorst a cross from Matty Cash was headed off the post by Buendia then the Seagulls caught faffing about at the back then Danny Ings dummied a player and scored with a deflected shot past Robert Sanchez
Villa move up to twelfth , five points clear of the drop zone. The Seagulls remain seventh, point behind Pool. Good news for the two Daves, but bad news for Bob
Buendia now down for Villa
In the Lancs Derby Burnley thrashed Blackburn 3-0 with a brace from Ashley Barnes and a goal from Belgian under 21 international, An Ass , Zaroury
Burnley heads into the break top, three points ahead of the evil Blades with Blackburn third , a p[air of points behind the Evil Blades. Maximum points for Yours Truly on the Championship picks.
If Villa holds on to win then I could do the PPP updates at the conclusion of the match, but I will wait until the late match concludes
Morning, David - thanks for helping out setting up the thread this morning. Much appreciated. We're up to our necks in cereal and poop here at the Cottage. LOL!
Glad to help, Bob. I remember those days well. Mitrovic out with a broken foot for a few days. Did he trip over any of the poop or cereal?
Leon of the Old Bailey on for Buendia
Long range shot from Leo Trossard well held by Emi Martinez. Now the big Argie keeper down, time wasting.
Lamptey on for Estupid Yan.
The Emory Board too make a triple substitution , which will be his final rolls of the dice
A Pair of Seagulls bookings. Chris Gross and Seagulls gaffer, Robbie De Zerbi
Augustinsson Digned on in November, Cammy Archer for Danny Ings and Dendoncker for Doug Louis.
Booby Kamara booked for a high boot on Leo Trossard. That's five Villa players in the book.
Ruben Colwill, on loan from Chelsea ,is wide with a free header off a great cross from Alexis McAllister. Should have tied it up.
Eight is more than enough as the announcer just stated that this will be the expected amount of stoppage time minutes.
Solly March goes on a solo run in November as he's tackled for a corner. We enter the eight stoppage time minutes.
Not sure why Lewis Dunk and Emi Martinez are butting heads. I think it's time wasting.
Now John McGinn booked for impeding a throw and that does it as Villa win 1-2 at the AMEX. Good news for the two Daves and bad news for Bob as Villa are all the way up to twelfth place
Morning Gentlemen,
just back home from errands and walk
Just in time for United walking into the Dahlgren living room
I still don't like the modern day entrance of both teams to music...I miss the day teams came running out of the tunnel separately
Fulham: Leno, De Cordova-Reid, Diop, Ream, Robinson, Palhinha, Cairney, Pereira, Wilson, Willian, Vinicius.
Subs: Rodak, Adarabioyo, Duffy, Chalobah, James, Onomah, Mbabu, Harris, Sekularac
Man Utd: De Gea, Malacia, Martinez, Lindelof, Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Elanga, Rashford, Martial.
Subs: Bishop, Dubravka, Maguire, Fred, Van de Beek, McTominay, Garnacho, Iqbal.
Good Morning Dave. Great mention of United walking into the Dahlgren living room. I think Mitrovic broke his foot tripping over M&Ms toys yesterday
England became World Champs in T20 Cricket this morning in Australia. They beat Pakistan overnight
Haha... I knew Mitrovic has been hurt...he's on my fantasy team! There was talk that there was some argy bargy between Fulham and Serbia if he could play today
Last 90(well who know how much actually time) minutes of Premier League football until Boxing Day
Nice one , Dave. I guess M&M settled that dispute.
They're off rom Bob and Kate's .
COME ON MAN UNITED!
I was thinking the other day
The World Cup normally has a camp before hand but these first two games will be nothing different than any other International break. A week together and then a match followed by another!
Also, if players make it all the way to the Final...that will be only 7 games in 5 weeks....that's not a lot really
We are off
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
I'm here fresh from a shower to enjoy this one. Come on, United!
I wish United would start games like they played most of the second half vs Villa on Thursday
Already, United have not started on the front foot
Come on United.... know the kick off was at 4:30...not 5:30
Struth...DeGea had to make a kick save and a beaut off a deflection
Bob said Group A is going to be bright orange. Isn't everything dull when LVG is in charge? Hard to believe it's his third spell in charge of the Dutch National team.
Noice save by Spain's SIXTH choice keeper from Vinicous
Agreed, Dave. A wild second half vs Villa on Thursday
What do you guys think of my thoughts on the WC?
That's a fair point, David but I just think that the Dutch will have too much quality for what is the poorest group in the tournament - Qatar, Senegal and Ecuador.
It's nippy here today. Did it get colder in ENY and WNY? It's supposed to be in the 20s tonight here. Highs in thew upper 40s and low 50s this week. Same for you all?
It is changing a bit colder now but it has been beautiful as of late
SHOOT THE BALL!!!!!
You make a good point, Dave. This is the first WC where I'm not really excited and its has that feel. In terms of games, I think they're playing seven matches in 28 days instead of the normal 32. Is that correct?
Why didn't Rashford or Martial shoot the ball!
Dave sounds similar to the weather here. Even thoughnwe're only eight and a half hours from Orlando I think we're closer in weather to you all because of the elevation
Awful at the back for United....almost gifted a goal
I agree, Bob. The purpose of the joke was to take a dig at LVG, which I will do at any given opportunity
Not sure how many days...I heard a guy say 5 weeks. You think it is 4?
I guess it is 4
7 games in a month isn't that much either...that is only for the final four teams
Talking about Group A , the announcer said Mane went off injured for Bayern yesterday. Is he fit for the WC? That would be a huge loss for Senegal if not
LVG should put be put out to pasture....wish he went before his stint at OT
The first match is next Sunday, our wedding Anniversary and the final is December 18th, the day after my birthday. Not a ton of matches for that time period
Garnacho needs to come on asap...he takes on players
United get a corner and go short....grrrrr
Agreed, Dave. I'm guessing he's getting a third stint due to politics. I think Ten Hag would be a better choice.
WAY HAY! ERIKSEN GIVES UNITED THE LEAD . HIS FIRST UNITED GOAL
YES!!!!
ERICKSEN SLIDES IN AT THE BACK POST!!!
Looks like he almost missed it to me
First United goal....about bloody time!!
We don't want ETH to leave OT yet!
Wahay! Great team goal for United - excellent gut busting from Erickson. I can't believe that guy had a heart attack a year ago. Blimey!
Eriksen started it so he finished it. Tackled Tom Cairney in midfield . It broke to Rash, who passed to Bruno and his deflected pass was diverted in at the far post by Eriksen
Foul throw.....useless
Thank you Bamber Gasgoigne!
Agreed Dave. United's gain is the Dutch National team's loss.
United need go out and win this match 3-0!
Why not go for the jugular
United still fifth, but now three points and a massive goal difference behind fourth placed Spuds
Talking about Garnacho, he was in the Argie's preliminary WC squad, but didn't make the final cut. I figured that he's one WC away from being in the national squad
Didn't realize until just now that Bamber had the same last name at Paul!!
Not sure if the spelling is the same but..
Fulham had a chance there...why didn't he shoot instead of crossing NOT to a teammate?
I hope it comes back to bite the Argies
Rashford....has to score....he was off but head it in!
Sadly, I agreed with Dixon!
In terms of the PPP only a couple of minor changes. Ederson no long golden Glove Boy. It's a tie between Pope and Ramsdale ,who somehow will be sitting the bench behind butterfingers Pickford, who is Gareth's pick, not mine
If United hold on for the win, they will be in 5th. 3 points behind Spurs with a Leeds home game in hand.
Sadly, there is a 10 goal difference
United would be four points ahead of Pool
The only other changes were the Evil Lions replacing QPR in the playoffs and the Evil Blades and Blackburn swapping second and third place.
I didn't expect Garnacho to make the squad due to his inexperience and lack of playing time.. They have a lot of depth and I think they're a dark horse.
What a lovely winner for Toney yesterday....lovely jubbley
Come on United...get another one!!
Former United player , Perreira, down for the Cottagers
Totally agree with you about the WC, Dave - it's really unfair on the players and fans.
Nice block by De Gea from Harry Wilson off a pass from Perreira then the offside flag is raised
Hard to believe Ivan Toney didn't make the WC. Some baffling decisions by Gareth. Top English striker based on current form
De Gea fists away a long range rocket from Harry Wilson
Bob, I am saying it isn't that bad for them. The turnaround is like a normal qualifying round and then the games won't be that many for them. Three games and then a big break OR some more games just like midweek and weekend games
So, I think you disagree with me Dr Bob
Grrr...Martial almost in
Nice karate chopped block by late night host, Jay Leno
Pete Dreary says United have two friendlies in Spain in December. What's the point? Practically their entire starting lineup will be in Qatar. Will he be playing the Academy side?
United keep giving the ball away in bad places...our own worse enemy
Fulham bench is going nutso for some reason
Wonder how many of the United squad aren't going to the WC
DeGea, Malcia, McTom, Martial, Garnacho, Elanga.....any others of note?
Tom King , the Salford City keeper, failed to become their first player to be in a WC squad. On standby as Evil Blades reserve keeper, Adam Davies, was chosen as third choice keeper ahead of him.
Willian hits a volley high and wide....long may it continue
United need to stop giving the ball away in their own half!
If you're not good enough...go long
United are not going forward fast enough
They need to get Elanga off and put Garnacho on...he attacks his defender
Malacia somehow made the Dutch WC squad according to Wikipedia. I was surprised. Lindleof , Dubravka, and VDB won't be going to the WC. I guess those players will be on friendly duty in Spain. Some of the youngsters sitting the bench will likely get playing time too.
Maybe I do - the players usually have several weeks to prepare and couple of friendly matches to try out tactics. Instead, they're playing Fulham this week and then bloody Iran next Monday. And what kind of fans are going to want to travel to Qatar in the middle of a season? It's a shambles.
Just over from a Martial header...bury it!!
I agree. He's been on too Elanga a time for our liking. Garnacho would liven things up
I totally agree with you about the fans but I think sometimes teams over prepare for WCs with their camp and friendlies.
These first two matches are just like qualifiers...have to be ready to play
Punmeister....ouch
I agree about the players , but I think plenty of supporters may travel not just because they get to watch the WC in person, but also to escape the cold weather and enjoy pleasant weather over there. It is definitely a shambles.
LOL, Dave! If you were a Citeh fan those would sting.
Rashford has to make a decision sooner!!
Takes too long
Malacia is going too...take him off the friendly team sheet
So, these two say a SA winner...hasn't been on in 20 years
Agreed, Dave. Malacia will realize that LVG isn't friendly if he hasn't already
I'll have the Group B preview up later today.
Correct Brazil in 2002 and only South American winner in the last 36 years
OH! Just wide by Eriksen off a pass from Bruno
I'll respond to the group postings later today
Half time
Oh how it would have been so much better being 2-0!
United one up at the half thanks to Ericksen's first United goal
That's crazy... I know it is pretty much only Brazil and Argentina to worry about...I know Uruguay won 2 but .... way way back
WC Winners
SA, E, E, SA, E, SA, SA, E, SA, E, SA, E, SA, E, SA, E, SA, E, E, E and E
Quite a streak for Europe!
So...the Scorecard
Europe 12
South America 9
Different Countries
Europe 6 if you count Germany and West Germany as two
SA 3
Dave I came up with three notable United players to add to the friendly list. Obi Wan, Brandon Williams, and Jones. Hard to believe they're still part of the United squad.
You will be interested that Joe Morrell will be Pompey's representative at the WC. He was picked for Wales WC squad
Second half underway from Bob and Kate's
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Back on for the second half - I want more goals.
That streak has helped Europe. Uruguay last won 72 years ago. My parents were in Middle School at the time
grrr....United miss two chances!!
Rash has to bury that
Welcome back, Bob. Hard to believe five Cottagers are going to the WC. Only three that I know of for Leeds. Tyler Roberts failed to make the Wales squad
Oh - nearly a second. Decent save.
Agreed, Dave and it's been Elanga time since he put one away as well
I think I am right in this....what significance does a reverse fixture between these two teams have in the history of the Premier League
Yeah, no surprise that Robin Koch didn't make the German squad. Too many Koch-ups this season.
I think the last time neither team made a substitution in an English top flight match
Phew...United survive
BOOM BOOM!Agreed and also LVG did Struijch Pascal from the Dutch WC squad. Was LVG correct to do that?
Spot on David...
March 22, 2003
RVN scored a hat-trick
Did you win a title with a win against Fulham?
De Gea with a great save from the Yank
OH! De Gea did well to tip over a header from Tim Ream off a Cottagers corner
Get in David's trivia league Bob!!
Premier League vs Championship!!
Rash leads a United break off a Cottagers corner then a horrible pass after the 100 yard dash
United break...Rash....just kicked it across the box...FIND A TEAMMATE!!
LOL, Dave. I thought I remembered it being 3-0. Nice that RVN got a hat-trick . WAS VDS in goal for the Cottagers that match
Can't believe De Gea didn't even make the squad
Rash down for United, holding his shoulder. Wonder what Ivan Toney is thinking
Elanga coming off for McTom!!
Very defensive move by ETH....McTom played well vs Villa but bring on Garnacho...espeicially because he's on my fantasy team
Someone left the tuna salad out too long again.
A defensive change from ETH as it's been an Elnga time since a United player contracted McTomian poisoning
Agreed, Dave. I wasn'ti mpressed by Unai Simon at the Euros and De Gea has had a better season than David Raya and Robert Sanchez.
Come on Man U
Come on Man U
Come on Man U
Poor effort at the trivia from me.
Dave are you pleased Pompey will have a player at the WC?
LOL, Bob. It was a nice try
I expect you should aim to get promoted....do some studying...kids shmids
Wonder if Pompey have to play matches without their player?
Who is going?
Do we get credit for Dan James' inclusion in the Welsh squad?
There's also a Fake Don and a Real Don in the Welsh squad, a Swindon player in the Welsh squad. Ghana may have a Charlton , two Reading , and a Bristol City player in their squad. Not sure when the deadline for managing the WC squad is
STRUTH... James comes on and scores against his old club
GAVE THE BALL AWAY AGAIN
BUGGER! DAN JAMES COMES BACK TO HAUNT US AS HE SCORES THE EQUALIZE R OFF THE BENCH
Sorry, chaps - Fulham level it up.
Sorry, Bob. Wikipedia lists Dan James as a Cottager. The only Leeds players going are Tyler Adams, Aaronson , and Kristensen unless I forgot any
Bloody typical - couldn't score for toffee for us.
The Pompey player going is Joe Morrell for Wales and yes I think they have to play without him. I think the rule is that three or more players have to be away on duty not to play
I know how you feel. We had the same problem with Dan James
Dave, Both Dons and Swindon will have the same problem . Charlton will too if their keeper makes the Ghana WC squad. It's a tad unfair
The Championship resumes with Black Cats vs Evil Lions December 3rd then a full schedule the following weekend. Not sure if they will still have players away on WC duty by then
Come on, United!
Cross from Dan James headed out by Lindelof for a United corner
Struth...bicycle kick saved
About time...Garnacho on for Martial
ATTACK!
OH! Great reflex save by De Gea off a bicycle kick from Paulinha off the corner headed on by Tim Ream
Garnacho karate chopped on
I am starting not to like Bruno...he does too much time complaining and doesn't do much more as of late
Please have him go and score the winner now
Garnacho down...nothing given
VAR going to check
It absolutely is a free kick.... nothing given... I just don't get it at all..he tripped him while not getting the ball
Already Garnacho has done more attacking than Martial and Elanga did for the whole game
Agreed, Dave. I would like to see Garnacho starting regularly. If he's good enough, he's old enough
Surely United will still win this one. Come on!
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Get the winner!
What the hell was that from Bruno!!!
PATHETIC!!
McTom.....has to score!
If the Aussies make the WC Final then four of them will be on SPL clubs playing three days later. Your thoughts?
It could have been a headache from the McTomain poisoning
I think Lee Dixon was being sarcastic about Spain winning the WC when he mentioned that they must have good midfield players that out beat Thiago to make the squad. I think Luis Enrique went Gareth on us.
Good luck Aussies!!
McTom gets that header on target....the the closer one on!!!!
I second that with the Aussies! They will need it . Seven SPL players, four from the Championship, seven from the A league, and two from the J league. Will good luck be enough for them?
STUPID header by Bruno
What a pathetic header from Bruno . I'm liking him less and less too.
Perreira down, holding his face. What happened?
He's up and okay. An LOB blogging trio of stoppage time minutes
Probably going to be four or five
Did you see the SPL record in the CL....I think they need MUCH more than GOOD luck
Josh Onomah on for Tom Cairney
I agree, Dave. Some of them come from SPL teams that didn't even qualify for Europe.
YES!!!!!
GARNACHO!!!!!!!
PLAY HIM ALL THE TIME!!!
Gets a goal but will get a yellow for the shirt!
WAY HAY! GARNACHO WINS IT LATE FOR UNITED
Wahay! Nostrabobus strikes again!
Gamacho definitely needs to start for you lot. He's United's Crysencio Summerville!
FANTASTIC!!
