The Last Weekend
Morning, chaps! We've got an interesting weekend of footer ahead of us, with the last league fixtures before an extended break for an absurdly scheduled World Cup in Qatar. It all starts with an early offering of Man Citeh against Brentford. Without Haaland to watch, I have to say that Citeh are as boring as they were last season and the season before, eking out professional wins through possession and KDB free kicks. I'm hoping he'll be back in the morning.
At 10am, we've got the usual fleet of traditionally scheduled matches, including Liverpool v. Southampton on USA and my beloved Leeds away to Spurs on The Cock.
Join me for all the usual chat, won't you?

Morning, chaps - three changes for City as Haaland, Foden and Laporte come in for Alvarez, Grealish and Ake.
Man City: Ederson, Stones, Cancelo, Gundogan, Haaland, Laporte, Rodri, De Bruyne, Silva, Akanji, Foden.
Substitutes: Moreno, Dias, Phillips, Grealish, Alvarez, Gomez, Mahrez, Palmer, Lewis.
Brentford: Raya, Henry, Pinnock, Jensen, Zanka, Onyeka, Mee, Toney, Mbeumo, Janelt, Roerslev.
Substitutes: Cox, Norgaard, Canos, Dasilva, Wissa, Ghoddos, Lewis-Potter, Crama, Yarmoliuk.
Pretty obvious from the opening few minutes what Brentford are going to try to do - hit Citeh on the break through their speedy forwards, as they just trie to do.
And that approach has borne some fruit. Ivan Toney has nodded the visitors into the lead and the Bees have a shock early lead at the Etihad. Gooner will be delighted by that.
Coming up on half-time - Citeh have been knocking on the door but with no end result.

Half-time - Phil Foden has tied it up for Citeh but they've still been a bit flat so far. Second half about to start up.
Head clash for Laporte, who's getting the mummy treatment.
Oh - Gundogan has missed a real sitter.
Pep has an absurd outfit on today. Hoodie with a giant "P" on the pocket. I'm afraid that that stands for Pep.
Oh my - Brentford have stolen the match with a breakaway goal from a Citeh corner.
Jesse Marsch may take some heart from that shock Brentford win at the Etihad. Here is the team news:
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris, Dier, Lenglet, Davies, Emerson, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Perisic, Kulusevski, Kane, Richarlison.
Subs: Doherty, Skipp, Sanchez, Gil Salvatierra, Forster, Spence, Tanganga, Lucas Moura, Bissouma.
Leeds United: Meslier, Kristensen, Koch, Cooper, Struijk, Adams, Roca, Gnonto, Aaronson, Summerville, Rodrigo.
Subs: Ayling, Firpo, Llorente, Perkins, Gyabi, Robles, Gelhardt, Greenwood, Fernandez.
The twins are ready and so am I - come on, you blue and yellows.
Both sides teasing each other out early doors.
Bobby Chompers has given Pool an early lead - that's good for us.
Oh - dangerous cross over but Kane couldn't get onto it, fortunately.
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!
It's that man Crysencio Summerville again finishing off a great ball through from Brenden Aaronson. It's his fourth goal in four matches now.
0-1 Leeds!
Oh - Spurs cut through us and Meslier has to save sharply.
West Ham's woes continue - they're 0-1 down early doors at home to Leicester.
The Saints have equalized at Anfield through Che Adams. Lots of goals around the league.
We look all over the shop at the back. We'll be lucky to hang on to this lead.
Tyler Adams is breaking up loads in midfield. Love the guy.
Big chance for Emerson Royale there - blew it well over the top, thankfully.
Oh - Summerville wass in again but Lloris saved superbly.
Halfway through the first half and I couldn't be any more delighted with this scoreline. We've ridden our luck at times but still 0-1 up.
Oh - Rodrigo bursts through and hits the post - but he's ruled offside anyway.
Three corners in a row for Spurs now.
Oh balls! Kane equalizes from that final corner. Meslier is incensed that Perisic has impeded him.
Will there be a VAR check? Yes, but the goal stands. That seems really unfair.
Good Morning, Bob. Here to join you today . Sorry that Harry Kane and Abel to tie it up.
Cherries were one up vs the Toffees , but one Moore goal by Kieffer put them two up. The U.S. will have their hands full when they face Wales.
Pool lead Saints 2-1 in Nathan Jones's first natch in charge of Saints. Foxes one up at the Hammers
Bournemouth have jumped out to a 2-0 lead over a hapless Everton side.
Meanwhile on the other side of the town, Darwin Nunez has put Pool back in the lead against Soton.
Willy Gnonto has come off for some treatment now - hope he'll be able to recover.
Hiya, David - great to have the pleasure of your company today.
Thanks, Bob.Here to support you. Great news from Anfield.
Just checking in during my busy day.
Sorry Bob about the equalizer...should have been a foul on the keeper in my book!!
Maddison limped off !!
U.S. will have their hands full with Kieffer Moore where they face Wales.
Enjoy the rest of you day.
Cortland v Ithaca in football at Yankee Stadium on YES...I'll have to turn that on too
Talk to you guys tomorrow
Good Morning, Dave. I started studying the squads. How did Kal get picked ahead of Maddison in the WC squad?
Cheers, Dave. Enjoy the rest of the day. Fantastic that Cortland is playing at Yankee Stadium.,
Maddison is in the squad but just went off hurt
Morning, Dave - hope you're having a good weekend.
PNE have come from two down vs the Evil Lions . Now Desmond and PNE now in the last playoff spot.
Spurs have gone back in their defensive shell now that they've equalized.
Massive clash between Robin Koch and Richarlison - they're both down.
Spurs beginning to dive around now.
Correct, Dave. I just checked. Couldn't find him because he's listed as a forward, but found him there
You can Conte on that from the Spuds.
BOOM BOOM!
Really don't like Conte's style of play.
WAY HAY! RODRIGO GIVES LEEDS THE LEAD. NOW 1-2. CONGRATS, BOB.
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!
From a corner, it ping pongs about until it reaches Rodrigo who thumps it in with his left on the full volley!
1-2!
A bout of head tennis from both teams off the Leeds corner driven in with his head by Mini Cooper then headed on by Kristensen then a nice finish from Rodrigo
Thanks, David - Spurs only have themselves to blame for that. They took their foot off the gas once Kane had scored.
Meanwhile it's Survival of the Fittest at Anfield, which the Saints Ain't . Slow Pool building up then p[ass played wide left by Bobby Chompers to Andy Robertson then his pass diverted in by Charles Darwin Nunez
Oh - Gnonto had a chance to slide on in to Rodders for a third. Overcooked it.
Leeds up to twelfth place e.
You're welcome . Delighted for you
MOT!!!
Boos , which are music to Bob's ears as Leeds lead 1-2 at he half
I'll take 12th - nice and comfy at the World Cup break.
That's sweet, sweet music to my ears, mate. Half-time comes just at the right time.
Forest vs Palace is 0-0 at the half. Zaha missed a penalty, shooting wide from the spot
Foxes could have been two up at the half, but Flappy saved a spot kick from Tielemans
Teams back out for the second half now. Willy Gnonto picked up a knock in the first half, so he's been replaced by Sam Greenwood.
Second half underway.'
COME ON LEEDS! MOT!
Nasty high challenge their by Marc Roca earns him a yellow. I might have him off for someone like Matty Klich.
Surely Ivan Toney's 10 goals in the Prem have earned him a seat on the plane, no?
BUGGER! DESMOND AS IT'S TIED UP. LONG RANGE SHOT FROM BEN DAVIES OFF MINI COPPER ON THE LINE. WILL IT BE AN OG? SORRY, BOB.
Bollocks - our defense lets us down again. We had several chances to clear the danger there but Ben Davies squeezes a shot through a crowd to equalize.
2-2.
Really sorry, Bob and really sorry to say Leeds were the architects of their own downfall., falling asleep off the throw. Harry Kane and Abel to have his shot blocked by Kristensen then that deflected goal by Ben Davies
To answer your question, I'm not sure. Ivan Toney didn't make the 26 . I'm not sure who is on standby and would Maddison be replaced by an out and out striker, out someone like Jarred Bowen, who plays that role? Wilson was picked ahead of Toney.
Bob, you may ver surprised that Zak Steffen didn't make the U.S. WC squad . The loan to the Teesiders to get extra playing time wasn't enough. The three keepers are Matt Turner, Ethan Horvath, on loan to luton from Forest , and Sean Johnson of NYC FC.
Betancur is booked for a foul on Summerville.
More bad news as Forest takes the lead vs Palace. Morgan Gibbs-White with the goal. Forest now third from bottom, a point behind the Toffees and Hammers
I saw that on the ESPN+ special on the US squad the other night. I don't watch the MLS so I don't know either Horvath or Johnson.
Oh - Crysencio wins us a free kick just inches outside the box. Good position for us but we don't have a natural free kick expert. Greenwood lines it up.
Over the top from Greenwood, sadly.
Sam Greenwood bent it like Becks except for the fact that it was a couple of feet over the target
True to form, Spurs are dropping deep again and allowing us to play.
Greenwood wins a corner now. Come on!
Horvath is on loan to Luton. Not sure about Johnson, but I think Steve has spoken highly of Johnson
MOT!!
Baggies go two up vs the potters, but remain in the drop zone, now just a point from safety, behind Bristol City and the Teesiders. That's not idle gossip
Kulusevski breaks into the box but fortunately fires wide.
Pool now up to sixth place, a point behind United.
In Spain, La Liga concluded on Thursday. This weekend Copa Del Rey matches ar being played. Surely the La Liga managers will play the academy players
The Evil Lions take a 2-3 lead at PNE. Apr replaces PNE in the final playoff spot. Evil Lions behind on goals scored. Have scored one goal less than QPR
Another corner for Spurs - mark 'em up!
Melsier makes another mess of a corner, but gets away with it as it's another Spuds corner
Richarlison trots off - Bissouma on for him. I wouldn't mind another change for us about now.
Evil Blades take the lead at Cardiff. Evil Blades now top ahead of Burnley on goal difference ahead of the Lancs Derby tomorrow.
This one could still swing either way.
That's a surprisingly defensive change from Conte , considering it's a must win for the Spuds
Wigan ties it up vs the ten man Tangerines,Tangerines replace the Baggies for the last drop spot, behind them by a huge goal difference.
Yellow for Ty Adams now - soft IMHO.
It's been a strange set-up for Conte today. It's almost as if they don't want to win this one.
Teesiders tie it up at CR
I'd like to see Joffy on before long.
Good period of possession from us.
Cherries go three up vs the Toffees.
Agreed, Bob. You and Steve will be pleased that Conte is playing for a draw.
Had to comment....THREE TWO LEEDS!!!!!
YESSSSSS!!!!!
What a strike from Rodders!!!
2-3!
WAY HAY! RODRIGO AT THE DOUBLE AS HE SCORES FOR A 2-3 LEEDS LEAD.
Great tackling in midfield then Marc Rocca passed wide left to Rodrigo and he scored with a great finish from a difficult angle.
Congratulations, Bob. This would be a great result
Giving you a kiss, Dave!
Now then - we've got a little over ten minutes to hang on to this slim lead and the three points.
Harvey Barnes puts the Foxes two up at the Hammers
Rodrigo is now on nine goals for the season - about the same strike rate as Pat Bamford a couple of years back.
BUGGER! BETANCUR SCORES TO MAKE IT 3-3. SORRY, BOB
Oh balls - Betancur evens it up again. We're great going forward but really frail at the back.
cross from Matt Doherty was headed out and the shot from Betancur went through Luke Ayling's legs, that probably wrong footed Meslier
BUGGER ! ANOTHER BETANCUR GOAL GIVES SPUDS A 4-3 LEAD. SORRY, BOB.
Sorry Mate...4-3!
Back to back 4-3ers
That's torn it - Kulusevski follows in to knock home a fourth. The first time we've been down in this cracking match.
4-3.
We're going to need some heroics now in the last few minutes.
It was first time passing from Spuds starting at the back and Harry Kane and Abel to find Kuelsevski wide right. He cut in and wrong fitted a Leeds defender then his pass went in off Betancur.
Agreed, Bob. This is the one time you don't want to face a well organized team, but Spuds have had a few holes at the back today
It goes from bad to worse as Tyler Adams is sent off for a second booking. He'll be suspended for the Boxing Day Fixture.
Oh balls - Ty Adams has gone off for a second yellow now. He'll miss the Boxing Day fixture against Man City.
Coventry two up vs QPR while the Evil Lions now lead 2-4 at Deepdale. Evil Lions now in the last playoff spot, ahead of QPR on goal difference
Two late changes for us - Matteo Joseph, who made his full debut in midweek, and Joffy. We need some heroics from the kids.
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes. Bob will be singing for more in that genre.
Both of these sides are late goal specialists so there might be more goals in store.
I'm singing in full voice, mate.
Love the fella in the crowd with the "Dirty Leeds" sweatshirt. Great stuff!
It's over and the Spuds hold on to win 4-3. Really sorry, Bob.
Pool win 3-1.
USA off to the London Stadium where the Foxes are two up deep in stoppage time
Full-time: It's not to be our day in the end, but a thoroughly entertaining match. We've got lots of problems at the back but I can't fault our effort today. It leaves us in 14th going into the World Cup break on 15 points from 14 matches.
It's over and the Foxes win 0-2 at the London Stadium
Forest have defeated Palace 1-0.
Agreed, Bob. It was a good performance, but as you stated,Leeds lost due to those defensive problems. Will JM be making some defensive signings in January?
Spuds now up to third place , ahead of Toon vs Chelsea on NBC, kicking off at 12:30.
I'll be in and out for the rest of the day, mate.
Cheers, Bob. Me too. Next is Toon vs Chelsea on NBC
They're off from SJP.
COME ON YOU TOON!
It's 0-0 at the half. Toon fourth, a point behind the Spuds and Chelsea seventh, behind Pool on goal difference and a point behind United.
GOAL ! JOE WILLOCK GIVES THE TOON THE LEAD WITH A CRACKING FINISH
Guimares did well to find Mickey Almiron wide right. He cut inside and did well to get past Koulibaly and it broke to Joe Willock at the edge of the box where he scored with a rocket of a first time finish in the upper 90.
That puts the Toon in third, a pair of points behind Citeh. Chelsea is down to eighth place
Cheers, mate - I'm just checking in on this one. Newcastle are wrapping up what would be a great win for them at SJP.
It's over at SJP as the Toon hold on to defeat Chelsea 1-0 and will be third during Christmas for the first time in twenty years
This marathon Saturday concludes on USA with bottom vs top as Wolves host the Gunners , who will head into the break five points ts clear at the top if they win at Molineaux.
Wolves vs the Gunners is underway in as Lopetegui has been announced as Wolves new manager
Xakha Khan is down for the Gunners which is not music to either Gunners or Swiss fans.,
Play resumes and Xakha Khan is abel to continue then Jesus with a goal disallowed for offside.
Fabio Viera is on for the injured Xakha Khan at the quarter hour mark, which is a concern for Gunners and Swiss fans
