Wake up with Haaland, Go to Bed with Leeds
We've got an extra long day of footer action ahead of us, boys. It all starts with Leicester City hosting Man Citeh and that big scary werewolf Erling Haaland in the early one. Then we get the usual 10am fixtures, including Brighton v. Chelsea and Bournemouth v. Spurs. The late one on NBC is an intriguing clash between two sides who are really doing better than they should - Fulham and Everton. And then finally, the evening offering is Jesse's last stand, as my beloved Leeds enter the lion's den on Anfield. The Reds beat us 6-0 there last season - I'm cringing at the prospect of another hammering.
Let's have some fun, eh?
291 Comments:
Morning, boys - I'm just settling in to enjoy the early morning festivities from Filbert Street.
The team news for this one:
Leicester City: Ward, Justin, Amartey, Faes, Soyuncu, Castagne, Dewsbury-Hall, Tielemans, Barnes, Maddison, Vardy
Subs: Iversen, Albrighton, Iheanacho, Perez, Daka, Mendy, Ndidi, Praet, Thomas
Manchester City: Ederson, Cancelo, Stones, Laporte, Akanji, Gundogan, Rodri, De Bruyne, Grealish, Alvarez, Silva
Subs: Stefan, Carson, Dias, Ake, Gomez, Mahrez, Foden, Lewis, Wilson-Esbrand
The obvious headline here is that Haaland has failed a late fitness test and has a foot problem. Alvarez replaces him up front.
I'm only Citeh have too much for the Foxes to handle, despite the lack of Haaland today.
Good Morning, Bob. Here to join you for the marathon day.
Ederson with a near post save from Vardy for a Foxes corner
Steve did mention at the beginning of the season that Haaland is good for an injury or two each season. He was spot on about that
In the Championship Bristol City is one up vs the Swans while the Evil Blades are two up any the Baggies , who are second from bottom
Nice tackle from behind by Dewsbury-Hall on Jack Grealish for a Citeh corner. They want a penalty. Nothing doing. It's a corner
A minute of stoppage time
Faes heads out for a Cteh corner taken by Jack Grealish and headed well wide
It's 0-0 at the half. Bob will be hoping for better from Citeh in the second half while Steve will be pleased.
No change in the Championship scores. Yesterday Brum defeated second placed QPR 2-0.
Mendy on for Dewsbury-Hall, which will make the Foxes even more defensive. The second half is underway from the KP
OH!b Inches wide by Rodri . Citeh nearly took the lead
GOAL ! KDB GIVES CITEH THE LEAD
He bent the free kick like Beckham off the post and in past the diving Danny Ward
Citeh now top , a point ahead of the Gunners while the Foxes are now two points clear of the drop zone. Could be in the drop zone with a Leeds win today
The Swans tie it up at Ashton, remaining fifth in the standings
La Porte tackles Vardy for a Foxes corner
OH! Nice corner from the train ground for the Foxes taken to the D and from there a rocket of a volley from Tielemans is tipped on to the bar by Ederson
Morning, David - I'm back after a marathon feeding session. Really happy to see Citeh 0-1 up through that terrific KDB free kick.
Good Morning, Bob. Glad you are done . That must be tiring. Thought you would be pleased with the score, but not Steve.
Bristol City vs Swans finished 1-1. Swans remain fifth for the time being
This result would keep
leicester locked on 11 points, just two above Leeds.
Like for like as Ihenacho is on for Vardy and an attacking change as Saka is on for Soyuncu. The Bridge must be a fan of the Daka program
Like for like as Ruben Dias is on for Akanji
Changes for the Foxes now. Vardy coming off - he's a shadow of the player who lit the league up in their title year.
Leeds will move above the Foxes with a win at Anfield
I'd like to see another Citeh goal for insurance now.
Agreed, Bob. I think Vardy is past it and not up to playing in the Premiership any longer
Clumsy by Ruben Dias on Harvey Barnes
I don't really expect that. A point would be a miracle.
Any more bear sightings? Kate is worried for you.
Phil Foden on for Julian Alvarez. Will the Foxes have more than their Phil of Foden?
No more sightings. Fortunately it's a cub , but Jacquelyn spotted it around the corner roof the house in the road coming home from Work Thursday night. Fortunately for her, it ran away when it saw her.
I wonder what Kate thinks of Pep's tight black Jeans with the logo on his arse?
There’s a break in play as Youri Tielemans receives treatment for a nosebleed after an aerial challenge with Kevin De Bruyne.
Free kick from the Fourth President headed over by Timmy Castegene
That's a cub! Wow!
Citeh are choking the life out of this match with possession. Works for me!
Napoli takes the lead vs Sassuolo. A win will keep them top of Serie A
It's a back bear. Fortunately, they're less dangerous than brown, grizzly, or polar bears
Foxes are starting to tire from all the chasing they have done this match
Comfortable near post save by Ederson from Daka.
Iheanacho sends a cross into the Manchester City penalty area, the flight of the ball deceives Ruben Dias and Patson Daka skims a header straight into the arms of Ederson.
A trio of stoppage time minutes
Three minutes of stoppage time to come.
Oh - almost an own goal!
Almost a comical OG for an equalizer . Ruben Dias heads off of John Stones's face and out inches wide for a Foxes corner
KDB leads a speedy counter off the corner and his pass is inches in front of Gundogan for what should have been far post tap in
It's over and Citeh now top after winning 0-1 at the KP
Napoli two up vs Sassuolo
Lovely! Citeh wrap up a narrow win.
Seagulls vs Chelsea is the 10 AM match on USA. It's a return to the AMEX for Graham Garry Potter. Not expecting a lot of magic out sourcery from this match
All of the 10am matches are on The Cock.
Thee Evil Blades have won 0-2 at the Hawthorns . The Baggies remain second from bottom ,three points from safety while the Evil Blades are fourth , a point from automatic promotion
Seagulls vs Chelsea is on USA. All the other matches are on the COCK.
I'll be watching Harry Potter's return to Brighton - how about you?
Back with a cuppa for the Brighton v. Chelsea match.
The teams on display at the Amex:
Brighton & Hove Albion: Sanchez, Dunk, Webster, Estupinan, March, Mac Allister, Caicedo, Trossard, Gross, Mitoma, Lallana.
Subs: Lamptey, Sarmiento, Enciso, Undav, Steele, Gilmour, Furlong, Turns, Moran.
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Cucurella, Sterling, Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Gallagher, Mount, Pulisic, Havertz.
Subs: Jorginho, Aubameyang, Mendy, Broja, Zakaria, Chilwell, Ziyech, Azpilicueta, Hutchinson.
I'll take a Chelsea away win here. De Zerbi has had a good start and without Harry Potter around, I see Brighton as a bottom half side.
I'll also take a Spurs away win on the South Coast at Bournemouth.
Brentford are 11th, so I'll take a home win there against hapless Wolves.
Brighton piling on the pressure from the off.
Chelsea haven't got going here and they've conceded an early goal from Trossard.
And there's another! They've conceded from a corner. A Cheeky own goal, as it looks.
Oh - Pulisic misses a real sitter there where he should have got Chelsea back into this one.
Interesting to see that Chelsea are wearing a canary yellow away kit. Citeh had a very similar kit this morning. And Leeds' away kit this season is the same shade. A trend?
Hello, Bob. Back from walkies with Trooper. He also had a play date with his buddy
It might be a trend for this season before they change the kits for next season. I think Chelsea wore a yellow away kit in the late 70s and early 80s. It's difficult to say
Surprised to see the Seagulls two up. Roberto De Zerbi on track for his first win as Seagulls manager
Kieffer Moore has given the Cherries the lead vs the Spuds
In the Championship the rock bottom Terriers on top of the in form Evil Lions while Blackburn on top at the Tigers and now second behind Lances rivals, Burnley on goal difference. Teesiders on top at PNE
Terriers now off the foot of the table and replaced by the Baggies
Napoli three up vs Sassuolo , so they will remain top of Serie A
Napoli now four up. Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen with a hat-trick
Bayern lead Mainz 3-1 at the half and are now top. Union Berlin will be back on top if they defeat Gladbach tomorrow.
PNE ties it up vs the Teesiders, who are now above the drop zone on goals scored, just ahead of Coventry
Posh on top vs Cambridge ion an East Anglian Derby while the Rams lead Bristol Rovers 4-1. Mc Goal Rick with a first half hat-trick Not a Big Club two up vs struggling Richard Burton. The Owls third, three points behind the Tractor Boys
GOAL ! SEAGULLS GO THREE UP. ESTUPINIAN ESTUPIFIES CHELSEA
Looks like a second OG as this time Chalobah diverted the ball into his own goal , trying to cut out that stupefying pass. Tough luck, Trev!
Coventry takes the lead vs the Tangerines as do the Canaries vs the Potters. Canaries up to fifth place while Coventry up to sixteenth place, replaced in the drop zone by the Teesiders
Odd Son, Eddie , gives palace the lead vs the Saints. Palace up to tenth place while Saints are a pair of points above the drop zone
Seagulls three up at the half , giving Chelsea a right old thrashing
The Tangerines tie it up at Coventry , who slip back into the drop zone behind the Teesiders on goals scored.
Pompey vs Shrews 1-1 at the half. Pompey in fifth place.
The Tractor Boys go top of L1 , taking the lead at Charlton deep in first half stoppage time. Argyle could go top on Halloween Monday if they defeat Exeter City in a West Country Derby
Cally Wilson gives the Toon the lead vs Villa ,Still playing due to an injury to Emi Martinez. Toon overtaker Spuds in third place Robin Olsen replaced Martinez
Coventry still one up vs the Tangerines. The equalizer was disallowed , so the Teesiders are still in the drop zone
Luton took the lead vs the Black Cats in first half stoppage time. The Hatters are now seventh , a point behind the Swans for the last playoff spot.
WOW! The Chelsea Kepa substituted a t the half, replaced by Eddie the Mender. That's rare to see a goalkeeper subbed at the half. Second half underway
Napoli remain top of Serie A as they have defeated Sassuolo 4-0
Bayern now leads Mainz 4-1
GOAL ! CHELSEA PULS ONE BACK. KAI THE GUY WITH THE GOAL
Webster with the dictionary definition of poor defending allowing Kai the Guy a free header in the six yard box off a cross from Connor Gallagher from a Tongue N Cheek pass
Raz booked for a les than Sterling striker's challenge
Kieffer with one Moore goal, at the double as he puts the Cherries two up vs the Spuds
Bayern now lead Mainz 5-1
Troyes takes an early lead at PSG
Mainz pulls it back to 5-2
Tangerines tie it up at Coventry, who are now back in the drop zone behind the Teesiders on goals scored
Tractor Boys two up at Charlton
Not a Big Club three up vs Richard Burton
Hiya, David - I'm back from a refreshing shower to check in on this one. I see that the Seagulls have continued to drop some guano on the Blues today. 3-1 now. Not a happy return for Harry Potter.
Welcome back, Bob. The Chelsea Kepa will be livid that he was subbed at the half.
That is rare for Kepa to get the hook at the half. Potter has favored the Spaniard since taking over but perhaps he's losing his patience.
Bloody hell - A deflected Ryan Sessegnon shot has given the Cherries the lead at Dean Court!
My internet is in and out. Some belated updates. Ryan Sess has pulled one back for the Spuds now trailing 2-1 at Dean Court.Ben Mea gave the Bees the lead , but Ruben Neves tied it up for Wolves a couple of minutes later
I'm glad to hear that you and Trooper avoided a bear mauling on your walkies.
Bayern now leads Mainz 6-2. All half a dozen Bayern goalsd from different scorers
The scores aren't going well for Leeds here. I don't know what Chelsea and Spurs are playing at.
Aubama for Sterling and Chilly on for Puli
Cuccarella gets the hook on his first trip back to the Amex.
For Cucarella , not Puli.Seagulls change as Anciso for an exhausted looking Lallana
Not a happy return too the MAEX for the Chelsea Hair Bear. He didn't do enough to help his cause, in all honesty
As it stands, Wolves would leapfrog over us into 18th. Brentford would drop to 12th as Bournemouth would replace them in 11th.
The Reading Railroad takes the lead at Turf Moor.Ince's lads now seventh, behind the Swans on goal difference for the last playoff spot. Burnley now second , replaced by local rivals, Blackburn at the top
Apparently Kepa isn't the only keeper subbed at half-time. Villa keeper Emi Martinez also pulled off. Newcastle are 1-0 up in that one. The Toon will go third!
Very tight at the bottom. A draw at Anfield would help Leeds, who would be in the drop zone only a point from safety
Make that 2-0 as Callum heads home a second for the Magpies. They're flying under Eddie Howe these days.
Toon score score two quick goals to go three up vs Villa . That's good new for you
Aubama pulls a good save out of Sanchez. This one isn't quite over.
Cally Wilson with a second d goal and Joe Linton chipped in with one past poor Robin Olsen
It certainly is - Villa are one of those teams that we need to keep close to us.
Charlton pulls it back to 1-2 vs the Tractor Boys
Off to throw a load of laundry in.
Steve will be happy to see the Emory Board struggling. I'm sure your reasons for wanting a Villa loss are slightly different
Burnley back on top after tying it up vs the Reading Railroad. Ince's son had given his team the lead
Canaries two up vs the Potters
Spuds have come from two down to tie it up. Now Desmond at Dean Court
Ben Davies with the goal
Toon still third, ahead of the Spuds on goal difference
PSG ties it up vs Troyes
Not a Big Club Four up vs Richard Burton
I'll be around for the Leeds, but I'm laid up with a cold and trying to recoup in time for a friend's record launch tomorrow. Shame because I'd set aside the day for an unannounced visit to Sketchers. Brighton showing the way to beat Chelsea is let them boot the ball into their own net. And repeat.
Toon four up vs Villa. Mickey Almiron with the goal
Canaries three up vs the Potters
Good Morning, Dave. Sorry you're under the weather. Glad to see you have a sense of humor about the match despite not feeling well. good luck to your friend. Please draw us a "sketch" of the results of his launch
Tangerines have come from behind to lead 1-2 at Coventry , who are now a point from safety. The Black Cats have tied it up in Bedfordshire
Hiya, Steve - sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. We got the first two packages from you yesterday. Cheers!
Charlton have come from two down to make it Desmond vs the Tractor Boys. Argyle back on top and can extend their lead with a victory vs Exeter in a local derby on Halloween Monday
Sorry, Steve. I still hope you feel better , but still maintain that you have a great sense of humor about the match. Looking forward to chatting with you this afternoon.
United will overtake Chelsea for fifth place with a victory vs the Hammers . The Gunners will go back on top with a victory vs Forest tomorrow. Bob and Steve will both be Gunners supporters tomorrow
David, her name is Tammy Patrick and she's a frequent guest on MSNBC and PBS as an election correspondent. https://democracyfund.org/bio/tammy-patrick/
A quintet of stoppage time minutes at the AMEX
Thanks for the tip, Steve. I will need to check that out
Very cool. Glad Amazon is on top of the M&M's Chrimbo.
Blimey - Brighton have scored a fourth goal! Potter well and truly humbled on his return.
GOAL! GROSS INCOMPETENCE BY CHELSEA AS CHRIS MAKES IT 4-1
Oh please. Credit Brighton's 4th to Mendy
After a double save by Mendy Gross scored of the keeper's finger tips and the goal stands after a VAR check
It finishes 4-1 to the Seagulls.
The Spuds have come from two down to lead 2-3 at Dean Court. Betancur with the goal. Spuds back up to third place.
That score is now a final
Cottagers vs Toffees will be on the local NBC, kicking off at 12:30
PNE have come from behind to take a late 2-1 lead vs the Teesiders, who are above Coventry for the last drop spot on goals scored.
Burnley have come from behind to take a 2-1 lead vs the Reading Railroad deep in stoppage time
The Tractor Boys score twice in stoppage time to take a 2-4 lead at Charlton and go back top of L1 ahead of the West Country Derby on Halloween Monday
Charlton pull it back to 3-4
Happy to see that Spurs grabbed a late winner against the Cherries - that one at least went our way.
In a miserable week for Simeone Cadiz goes two up vs Athletico . They had been eliminated from the CL in midweek
And the Palace win over Soton is also good for us.
LOL! The notoriously hot-headed Diego Costa is sent packing for sticking the nut on Ben Mee. Never change, big man, never change.
YIKES ! The Tractor Boys scored twice in stoppage time to take a 2-4 lead at Charlton ,but blew that two goal lead as Charlton have tied it up in the ninth minute of stoppage time. Now 4-4. Argyle back on top
Sadly Brentford couldn't take advantage with a late goal. That one finishes 1-1 and Wolves pick up a crucial point.
Not much of a match for the punters on NBC. They should have put the Liverpool v. Leeds on.
No surprises about Diego Costa other than it took more matches than expected for him to be sent off. With only tow Prem matches remaining until the World Cup, he won't be available till the match vs United on NYE, SAF's birthday. Not even a goal for Wolves. That's what I call a bust
Elizabeth, Trooper , and I are going on a picnic, but will be back in time for the late match from Anfield
Feeding time for the twins now.
Theres that crack finishing from WilIan that we don't miss a bit
Just checking in on this one - 0-0 going toward half time.
I'm back after lunch to watch this one. Not looking forward to it.
The teams news out of Anfield:
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Elliott, Thiago, Firmino, Salah, Nunez.
Subs: Konate, Milner, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Tsimikas, Carvalho, Phillips, Kelleher.
Leeds United: Meslier, Kristensen, Koch, Cooper, Struijk, Adams, Roca, Harrison, Aaronson, Summerville, Rodrigo.
Subs: Ayling, Firpo, Bamford, Llorente, Robles, Gnonto, Gelhardt, Greenwood, Klich.
Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland).
Yikes!
We're away at Salah has nearly scored already. Yikes!
Oh my giddy aunt! Liverpool have given us a golden chance and Rodrigo has tapped it in!
0-1 Whites!
That's Rodrigo's sixth of the season.
Blow up, ref - we've seen enough!
MOT!
Alisson looks rattled now - puts an easy clearance out of play. I don't know what's going on with Liverpool but we'll take it.
Great away support from Yorkshire today.
Oh - Jack has a chance now with a curler. Didn't get it right.
Good Afternoon, Bob. Delighted for you that Leeds leads 0-1 at Anfield
Phew! Meslier bailed us out there. Liverpool cut through us.
Nice close range block by Meslier from Bobby Chompers for a Pool corner that's cleared
BUGGER! SALAH TIES IT UP FOR POOL
Bugger! That was coming. Mo Salah does like scoring against us and he does it again.
1-1
Sorry, Bob. Wondering if I would have been better off not returning
Sorry to say Leeds didn't deal well with that corner. Over cooked by Andy Robertson and made it out to TAA and his cross made it out to Andy Robertson who crossed for Salah to volley in
Pool win another corner. Leeds counter, but are tackled in the Pool box
Nearly a good breakaway there but Jack ran out of options. It is entertaining so far.
Leeds third from bottom, a point behind the Foxes. Leeds go fifteenth with a win today
Thanks, Bob. We went for a picnic then drove to the Georgia mountains to look at the Autumn leaves. Was a tad tardy arriving back
Oh - what a great ball in from Rasmus and Aaronson crashed it against the bar!
Now Jack Harrison is in one-on-one with Alisson who saves well.
Back from the loo and a kick save by Alison from Jack
We'll likely regret these missed chances down the road but I'm enjoying this thoroughly.
I thought I heard something about Leeds being unlucky . Sorry Brendan give Leeds a lead
This has been a great match to watch after seeing the Fall leaves
Sounds like you had a lovely day out.
Kristensen wins the battle of Survival of the Fittest with Charles Darwin Nunez.
BOOM BOOM!
Thiago fouls Aaronson
