Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

refreshing to see ukraine putting the mugs of the ksa to the sword. at the half it's 2-0 to the ukes with ruslan the defender capitalizing on a calamitous sequence of incompetence from the saudi goalkeeper--bad clearance, then inability to control the backpass to get him out of trouble and then a horrendous flap at the ensuing corner and the easiest of put aways for a defender who doesn't look like the sort that fills his boots very often.

the second coming from rebrov who decides that the keeper is suspect from long range shooting too. he's right, you know.

you have the feeling that the third uke goal could ignite this into a first class tonking of the saudis. the hope that sheva gets his first wc goal and does just that is why i'll be watching the second half. back after full time.

the saudis exposed as rubbish again as the ukraine romps to a 4-0 finish.

within moments of the restart, shevchenko got his first wc goal and any resolve by the saudis to get back in the game seemed crushed. but instead of sending on more forwards to not only win this one, but also restore positive goal difference, the ukrainians took off a forward and a forward looking midfielder and subbed in two defensive goons to protect the shut-out. inexplicable, really. because this is exactly the kind of opponent that the ukraine should have let their forwards feed on to restore some of the confidence lost to the spanish tonking they received last matchday and so that those forwards go into their last match each on a few goals. i don't understand such defensive thinking.

see you tonight for the spanish job.

Sorry mate, KC's leaving for Paris tomorrow so I had to run some errands for her and I wanted to see Spain more than Ukraine today. I'll also miss the first two matches in the morning tomorrow as I'll be driving her to the airport. But not the England boys!
