Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The Yellow Card Factor

The Internet has been full of chatter today about Sven's options against Sweden on Tuesday. With three players on yellow cards - Lampard, Crouch and Gerrard - and Rooney presumably back in play, Sven has some interesting choices to make. According to the BBC reports today, he's decided to rest Crouch and Gerrard and play Rooney from the start alongside a wildly out of form Owen. Lampard then will have free rein of the midfield. No word whether it will be Carrick or Carragher in the holding role. Goodness knows, with Sven, we may even get Hargreaves!

Your thoughts, gents?

of the three, the one sven must protect is gerrard because he simply won't protect himself.

it's quite likely that we'll see hargreaves. sven's behaving exactly like a man who is unconcerned by the consequences of his actions. well done, the english fa for this situation.

the owen rooney partnership will start the sweden game, maybe lennon, but i also bet that theo will make an appearance as well.

Interesting. The English press seems to have been baying for two things this week:

1) Dropping Lampard - I don't agree, although I too was swearing at the telly after every one of his misses. He'll get his bearings soon enough.

2) Lennon's inclusion - I also don't agree; I reckon that Aaron is best off the bench. He is able to beat players but his final ball is atrocious. He also gets knocked off the ball too easily. I saw all too much of that when he was a kid at Leeds.

I'm still convinced that the team that started against T&T is the team to play, although I concede that the yellow card issue demands that Crouch and Gerrard be protected. Perhaps throw Crouchie on if need be?

the press are worried that because crouchie got away with pulling sancho's hair on his goal, that the refs will be paying particular attention to him. i'd seat him too for this.

nice thing is that sven can watch what the germans do first and adjust accordingly.
