Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Nice graphic as usual Dave. We're here because we care, of course. We'll be engaging in the Michael "Bollock" drinking game this afternoon. If you care to join us, take a drink of your favorite beverage anytime there is a suggestive commentary line involving "The Bollock."

Let's have a good, open, high scoring match, eh?

Sir Trevor's dictum of "Anyone But Portugal" still applies for me today. And I'll be booing Skippy along with the thousands inside the stadium. How bout the rest of you?

2:52 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am not sure you Bollock game will happen. He aint playing.
Of course, he still will be mentioned.
I say play a new game.
Schweinsteiger.. it sounds like a beer

3:01 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I'm having a frosty Schweinsteiger as we speak.

So Davey, you want Skippy back at OT this season? I want you to have the most reviled player in football to complete the set of player and manager. That would be choice!

Blogger United We Stand said...

Nice passing from the Germans
Nice save from Ricardo.
I am not by the computer the whole time. I am watching some kids in the pool

Shut up Gooner...I see Sol has gone bye bye.
How are you guys both posting or aren't you?

Robert Huth, Robert Huth, riding through the Glen... Robert Huth, Robert Huth, with his merry men...

Blogger gooner71 said...

Really, Sol's gone? Where? How much?

3:13 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Sipping so I don't get completely planked. Eric and Bob and I are going out later to see Pirates.

3:15 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

We've had a couple of Schweinsteiger sips, but honestly he could be more involved. Shame that the "Bollock" isn't playing. You know he'd be running the match.

3:17 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Good old Ollie - keeping those Portuguese cheaters out. Come on you Germans!

3:19 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Schweinsteiger - a sip and a blocked shot - shame.

3:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It hasn't said where Sol is going but it has been announced that he is leaving

3:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

nice try by the germans

3:24 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oooh, nearly from Kehl. Nice chip saved by the bastardo Ricardo.

3:24 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

What on earth is Podolski wearing? Looks like he's got two pairs of shorts on. Surely one pair is enough?

3:26 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, first yellow out for a Portuguese - Costa in the book for a cynical tug.

3:28 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Schweinsteiger's getting more involved and I'm starting to feel the Brooklyn Ale I'm enjoying. How about the rest of you? Enjoying a libation?

3:29 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well it is a bit early for you out West. Although I do remember the Irish enjoying their Guinness during early Premiership matches at the Plough and Stars in Boston. I can't really get started before noon, but I'm not Irish.

3:34 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Deco - what a waster!

3:35 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Costinha - what a villain. Picks up his third yellow card of the tournament. Get him off ref!

3:36 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I like Klose, replacement for Ruud or CR?
Maybe Vieira in midfield as a replacement for Keane!!

3:37 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The cheaters should have scored there.

3:40 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

did you like the pass from fancy pants

3:41 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I do think Klose could do well in the Prem, but I hope that Ruud can be rehabilitated. I've always liked him. Sell him over the Pennines, eh?

Gooner says that Vieira is yesterday's news.

3:41 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He is still pretty young.
Andy Gray said he has impressed him.
He actually brought up the point Patrick going to OT.(i thought of it first)

3:43 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

How are you listening to Andy Gray? Or was it on the pre-match Sky coverage?

3:48 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The World Cup report that I told you about. Of course he isn't commentating on this match. Patrick ISN'T playing in this match.
Ronaldo with another swan dive.

3:49 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Should've been a pink card for Skippy there. Terrible dive.

3:50 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

atrocious dive my CR. He actually complained about it.

3:50 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

so much for a goalfest

3:51 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Half time: 0-0; Pretty boring match compared to the usual 3rd/4th playoff match. But due to the "Schweinsteiger Effect," we're feeling no pain!

3:51 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I just figured out all the words for +10 commercial.
"If you don't give my football back, I'm goin get my dad on you. Billy kicked it over your fence and broke a silly gnome or two."

It only took me to the next to last game to figure it out.
Off to jump in the pool. Be back soon.

3:58 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Davey, I'd wish Paddy on you as a curse too were it not for the overwhelming coverage that would ensue which would affect us.

But didn't you watch his play? It's the same old Paddy... caught and robbed in possession with all the defenders forward, ridiculous attempts to trap a ball and it caroming off him, and missed sitter headers from set pieces.

He'll never be the Viera of 2003-04 again. You'd be much better off really converting Smith into the role and picking up Frings.

3:59 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

What a silly boy Skippy is. This match means nothing and he's still busy diving and complaining. Any remaining dignity that he hopes to keep is being cheaply pissed away by his lack of character.

Never was a fan but I did use to give him grudging respect for his skill.

Good to hear that he's pledged the next several years to OT.

4:05 PM

Lovely control there from Nuno Valente. I like it.

4:10 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

nice backpass by Pauletta

4:12 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why aren't these guys ripping it up? No one even remembers who wins these matches. They've been as negative in this match as the others. The whole point of these matches is for them to be a free-flowing advert for the game before the real business of the Final, but if it's gonna be like this, they might as well do away with it.

4:13 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

How was the pool, Davey?

4:14 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

couldn't agree more.
I remember the Italy England match in '90. It was a friendly well-played open match.

4:15 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A little cold

4:15 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

WHAT A GOAL!!!!!
THAT DESERVES MANY A DRINK!!!!

4:16 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Another pink card for Skippy. He's getting close.

4:16 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Schweinsteiger! That's a chug-a-lug!

4:16 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ronaldo would have fallen down when he brought it inside

4:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

that would have been a beauty

4:19 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Podolski tried to stay up. Did you see that CR?

4:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Classic own goal. I LOVE IT

4:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bob, are you calling it a Schweinsteiger

4:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

You don't call that deflected JP. It is called saved!!!

4:23 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

What a finish!!! Petit with a stonking own goal.

Bob noticed that Neuville was caught tying up his boot when that goal went in.

Deco to Chelsea? Bob says that's imminent.

4:23 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Of course he will, Jose wants the entire Portugal side to Chelski
Seriously, Barca won't let him go

4:25 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

In a match like this, why don't they leave Klose on to put the Golden Boot out of reach?

4:26 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Harkesy thinks that Hanke's 7 appearances is a lot for a twenty-two year old.

How many you think Owen had at 22?

4:33 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Classic, Harksey saying that Oliver Beirhoff is watching but it was Michael Shumaker. He just corrected himself. Who told him?

4:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Figo saying, get out my face fat man

4:36 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Harkesy's all over the shop at this point.

4:36 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hitslberger coming in. He has got a cannon. He scored some zingers for Villa

4:37 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

WHAT A GOAL!!!
I CALLED HIS NAME AT THE BEGINNING

4:38 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Look what happens when you shoot

4:39 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

WHere are all of you.
Are you blowing me off

4:39 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Love it!!! The Pig Climber with another great strike.

The Germans need to figure out how to give him enough confidence to play like this in all of their games.

Shame that they immediately sub him off before he got his 3.

4:40 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Bob's made the point that once again, the Portuguese look completely anemic up front. He's right. Kahn's had little to do.

4:41 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a classic save by Ollie

4:42 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

And that point underscored by the stat that these mugs haven't scored since the round of 16. Back to Lisbon with the lot of them.

4:42 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ollie has had three really good saves.

4:43 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Bob and I are starting a Mexican Wave we're so bored.

4:45 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Why are you bored?
I wish I was bored there with you

4:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great diving header.

4:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

OK... it is not GOMES.. it is Go mez
Idiots

4:49 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Ahhhh...shame.

But predictable since the Germans have been just slack since their third went in.

Bored with the match you prawn.

You think that Harkes quite likes the Portuguese?

4:49 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Prawn!!

I don't think it has been that bad of a second half

4:50 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

that's it.
It has been a lot of fun.
Remember i won't be there for the final. I will try and comment somehow.
Have a great time tomorrow and enjoy Pirates tonight.
Ciao

4:53 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Full-time: 3-1; Not too bad a match in the end, although I would've liked another few goals for Schweinsteiger. I've not had enough of the Brooklyn Ale yet.

Prawn in saag curry - yum!

4:54 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I got a bit thirsty there at the end too. But all and all, my evilPortuguese football hating heart was satisfied by seeing them comprehensively beaten, even though they got a cheap one at the end.

Belated birthday greetings.

Thanks mate.
Have a toast for me this weekend
