Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

It's the Real Thing!

Yes, it's Matchday Three for the Coke and - while the tricky away fixture for Leeds against top of the table Palace has been mysteriously postponed for a day - there is still plenty of interest in this list of fixtures that FSC deigns not to broadcast:

Cardiff v Coventry

Colchester v Barnsley

Hull v Derby

Leicester v Ipswich

Norwich v Luton

QPR v Southend

Sheff Wed v Burnley

Southampton v West Brom

Sunderland v Plymouth

It all kicks off in just a few minutes and Five Live will be broadcasting it.

The big match of the day is certainly at St. Mary's with Southhampton taking on Albion. George Burley seems to have breathed life into his side while the WBA board have finally loosened the purse strings and brought in John Hartson and the Swiss goalkeeper Zuberbueller.

Poor old Ipswich are behind yet again. Bottom of the table and they're down one-nil now at Leicester.

Cracking match at the Stadium of Light where Sunderland and Plymouth have scored two goals in the first ten minutes. 1-1.

10:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The big bruiser John Hartson is lucky not to see red for a ridiculously high challenge. Got off with a yellow.

Bugger! The Canaries have allowed Luton to score. A win today would continue their perfect record and have them top of the table with nine points.

Hilarious! Graham Poll is refereeing his first match since that notorious night in Stuttgart when he was in charge of Australia vs. Croatia. He's just given his first card and the fans are chanting "You've only got two more!"

Hey Bob, I am here. I have been listening to Five Live and just remembered I should check the blog

Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you hear about Sunderland's match?
The fans have decided to make it Niall Quinn day and have everyone wear green in honor of the Irishman. Not a great idea because their opponents today are Plymouth. Plymouth shirt color? You got it, GREEN!!!

Crystal Palace vs Leeds is on at Noon tomorrow. You will be able to follow it on Five Live

10:40 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That's noon GMT, right? 7 a.m. EST? I'll be there. How's the weekend going, mate? Are you coaching yet?

Did you get a Premiership preview on FSC last night, Dave? It was on the website schedule, but when I tuned in they were showing a repeat of the Barca - Chivas friendly.

10:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That's right, GMT.
Everyday is weekend for me!!!
My sis, Debs, is visiting again this summer with her two boys. This is the third summer in a row she has been here.
I am not coaching any school teams. I help out with the boys' club teams. That doesn't start again until indoor.
I do start my new outdoor season after Labor Day. I am completely out of shape. I better get running

Great story about the Sunderland fans, Dave.

After a bright opening day start, Southened are one-nil down again today. I reckon they'll struggle through the season. Two seasons ago they were in League Two!

Sunderland are losing again. Is Quinn going to fire himself?

I taped it on Thursday night at nine.
I haven't watch it yet

Accrington Stanley are winning!!

10:48 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'll keep an eye out for it. That's right - it was supposed to be on Thursday.

Will you be around for the England friendly this week? I've got a bloody training on Wednesday. GRRR!

10:49 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sunderland have been shocking so far this season. I thought they might be on the bubble, but instead they might only have one point from three!

10:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Yes, I will. What do you mean "training"?

10:50 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Way hay Accrington Stanley. I almost asked a trivia question about them, but then I thought you'd snap it up too quickly. I've got a cracker for Monday's trivia. Did you get last week's yet? It should be simple for you.

One of the things I'm doing as a "Teaching Assistant" this year is supervising student teachers. Have you ever done that? Or had student teachers in your classroom? I'm looking forward to it - I had a rotten supervisor when I did my internship and have lots of ideas about it.

Anyway, we're training for that this week.

10:52 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have never had a student teacher.
I know teachers have one every year. I don't know if I would like it.

10:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

My supervisors were hopeless

10:54 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Half time whistles going across the country. I'm reasonably happy so far in that only Luton has a perfect record with nine points. If it stays the same with Birmingham and Burnley drawing today, we could go joint second with a win against Palace tomorrow!

10:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That is asking a lot for a win at Selhurst Park!! Your lot couldn't win at Loftus Road

10:56 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I've never had a student teacher either. I've never stuck around in a school long enough to have the seniority - it's been three years here and three years there.

But I'm looking forward to this experience and it'll be vital on my CV along with the classes I'm teaching this year.

10:56 AM

Now now, Dave. We can always dream!

Do you have this written at the bottom of the comment box?

Comment moderation has been enabled. All comments must be approved by the blog author.

What does it mean? I am not going to get cut off, am I?

11:00 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I do have that line. I noticed it for the first time yesterday. It hasn't had an effect yet. I have a hunch that it essentially puts the onus on the "Blog Author" (that is, us) to moderate posts for offensive content rather than putting the onus on Blogspot. That's fine by me. I can't imagine much offensive material here apart from your pro-ManYoo comments. Might have to block those!

Nil-nil at Old Trafford between United and Seville. What is that - a friendly?

11:05 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I always thought you and bro should tone down the Man Utd(not Manyoo)comments.
You have gutter mouths!!!

11:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Yup, just another preseason game. I think it is the first one at OT.

11:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Luton are two up.
They had a quick start last year as well

11:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bloody hell, Ipswich are two down now! What's wrong with the Tractor Boys?

11:19 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Barnsley back in it against Colchester. That suits me - I like draws.

11:21 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The Five Live boys must be regretting the decision to cover this match - it's a 0-0 bore so far.

11:22 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Way hay! The Canaries are back in it. Norwich 1 Luton 2. Game on!

11:24 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It is going to be clustered this season. As Five Live just said, it was supposed to be like that last year but Reading went bonkers. Do you see anyone doing a Reading this year?

11:27 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sheff Wed. just went ahead. Burnley not 100%

11:31 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Not really. Obviously a couple of the relegated teams - Birmingham and WBA - have depth in their squads, but I still don't see them running away with it.

Yoo hoo - now Burnley are behind. That's another team with their perfect record under threat.

11:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Norwich goal!!!

11:33 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bloody marvelous. Well done, the Canaries. Now no one has a perfect record. We could go joint top with a win against Palace!

11:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

UNITED SCORE!!!!

11:34 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh and your lot have scored against Seville. (This is the sound of one hand clapping).

11:34 AM

Ronaldo made up the goal.
Back to Norwich, they are winning.
That Norwich squad are scrappy

11:36 AM

Norwich! How much do we love Chris Kamara. He's the biz.

11:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

You know that while Five Live is at the athletics there will be a goal at St. Mary's

11:41 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Absolutely. So have you sorted out how you're going to be able to watch United this season? Sounds like they'll be on Setanta quite a bit. Is there a pub nearby for you to watch?

11:42 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bugger! Looks like Barnsley is gonna pull out a win at Colchester. That's two wins in a row for them.

11:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

there is nowhere within a 100 miles plus!!
I hope to be able to listen to the games on line but if I have to pay I won't bother. I will just listen to Skysports Saturday

Wonderful, Sunderland are losing again

11:46 AM

Burnley equalizer

11:48 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, now it's not looking quite so good. Now Cardiff have scored. We're down in mid-table now with that game to come tomorrow. Makes me nervous.

11:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't think you have to be too worried.

11:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

come on Ipswich. Get another

11:51 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Ah, Ipswich have scored a consolation goal. Is that the first they've scored this season? In any case, they're bottom of the table. Four teams on no points.

11:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No,they did go in the lead against Palace before losing 2-1 in their opener

11:53 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Right you are. Back to the athletics - another chance to miss a goal at St. Mary's.

11:55 AM

Cambridge are losing at home to Northwich Victoria!! Come one, they need to get back into the league

11:57 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sad day for Philly Phil. I wonder if he even follows events at the Abbey Stadium any more. I might give up if Leeds dropped out of the Football League!

11:58 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear, Leicester have just killed off Ipswich with a third goal. What will the Ipswich bootboys say?

11:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Bugger, a late goal at the Walker Stadium and it isn't Ipswich. Bottom of the table for the Tractor Boys

11:59 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I've just noticed that Rotheram have a seven point deduction in League One. They're bottom of the table with -7. Why?

I can leave now. United won 3-0!!!!
I have to go do some errands.
