Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Thanks for starting the thread, Dave. Are you listening to Five Live? I'm also keeping an eye on the big game of the day - QPR vs. Leeds at Loftus Road!

It's a virtual United Nations for the Arse tonight. I'm not sure about the boy Hoyte, but unless he was born in Purley, it's an all foreign side, with:

2 Spanish
2 Togolese
1 Swiss
1 Austrian
1 Brazilian
1 Czech
1 Dutch

As for the subs, goodness knows where Poom and Song Billong are from?! I know I'm sounding like Alf Garnett here, but bloody hell!

It's all happening at Molyneux where Wolves have taken the lead against the Tractor Boys but have just had a player sent off.

QPR-Leeds still at 0-0.

Arsenal have certainly had the better of play so far, with Gilberto dominating midfield and Van Persie looking bright.

3:35 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Now Ipswich have had a penalty saved. That's the game to be following clearly. Carl Cort sent off earlier.

Zagreb are putting us all to sleep here, with ten men behind the ball at all times. If this is the Champion's League, give me the Coke anyday!

Half Time: 0-0; Hard going for the Arse so far. You can see exactly what the Croatian champs have in mind. They'll try to bottle it up and then nip a late goal to take back to London.

There are unlikely to be many real chances in the second half and you'd like to see a real striker on for the Arse. Neither Van Persie nor Adebayor are really the kind of sniffer-style strikers that can mop up a half-chance.

More Arsenal news - Sol Campbell has gone to Portsmouth.

I just got in and have turned on Five Live.
United are winning 4-1 at Oxford. Ronaldo got a few boos.

Bob, it looks like you can follow Wolves Ipswich on Five Live Sports Extra. I am going to give it a listen I think. Who cares about the bloody Arsenal.
Steve, is the second leg before or after the Villa opener

Blogger United We Stand said...

one nil to the Arsenal

4:33 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Hey Dave! Yeah, it sounds like that "winker" Ronaldo silenced a few boos today; hope they'll be back next weekend.

4:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sorry, two nil to the Arsenal

4:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Is Reyes playing?

4:34 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Two goals in the space of a minute - from Fabregas and Van Persie and the tie is over. I'll be switching over to the Coke. Thanks for the tip, Dave.

Blogger United We Stand said...

Leeds are one up!!
Thanks to a YANK!!

4:37 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

YOOOOOO HOOOOO! Eddie! Eddie Lewis! King of Elland Road!

4:37 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

BTW, Reyes is on the bench. I don't think Arsenal have used any subs yet, and I don't imagine that they will at this point. They'll coast this one out. I'd love to hear Song Billong come on, though, just for the pronunciation alone.

Also the return legs are on the 23rd/24th. That is, after the opening day tie against Villa. It'll mean that Arsenal will have a game in hand right off the bat.

Are you nervous facing Villa for O'Neil's first game.
You guys could come a cropper

4:41 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are you listening to the Coke Bob?
This match is almost over, maybe they will go to Loftus Road.

Blogger gatorbob said...

Who are you talking to, Dave? Gooner's at work, unlucky sod. Should be a teacher, eh? As for me, I think there are several potential banana skins in that first weekend, especially Chelsea against Citeh, who always give them a game.

BTW, Steven Cohen announced the Fox Sports coverage for the opening weekend. The United, Liverpool and Arsenal games are all on Setanta and the Chelsea game will be live on FSC. Also, their new show is gonna be called Fox Football Fone-in, a two hour call-in show on Tuesday nights 8-10 p.m.

Oops, I though Steve was in this group at some time.
My bad

three nil to the Arse

4:49 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, I switched over after the second Arse goal because I reckon that's the tie over. We're looking good for another three points, I reckon.

Bugger! QPR have just equalized off a penalty. 1-1.

4:52 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Oh dear, the Whites just let a goal in

4:52 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

YESSSS! Geoff Horsfield has just scored his first for the club! 1-2. Now, let's hold on, you Whites!

That's the Blackwell spirit. I like him a lot. I really hope that Ken Bates sticks with him and allows him to take us up into the Premiership.

Yeah, I've got about five windows open here. The coolest thing that Football365.com have done this season is that you can click on any fixture listed and it gives you the live updated text commentary with the stats. It's brilliant.

I'm also following the Connecticut Senate race between Lamont and Lieberman. Gotta get my daily political fix in too, Dave.

Wah-bloody Hey!!!

Just popping in for a moment to say 3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0.

Song Bilong is Rigobert's nephew and he's Cameroonian. Hoyte's English and has been capped as such for the under 14's.

Reyes is probably going so we won't cup tie him.

Sol leaving for Pompey gets right up my snout. We released him on a free allegedly because he'd been told that a signing on fee would preclude him from being picked up by Galatasaray. Then he switches and goes to Pompey who'd offered us 1.5mil for him before the World Cup. What a prat! We're best off without him in any case.

4:57 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Oh and congrats Bob! Eddie Lewis strikes again.

4:57 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Good results all round today, Gooner. We're 2-1 up at QPR. And Skippy's gotten booed by his own fans in his first appearance for United since the WC. Excellent!

Blogger gatorbob said...

EDDIE! EDDIE LEWIS! King of Elland Rooooad!

Blimey, how much extra time is the ref giving?

5:04 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It's now over.
It is an away point!!

5:05 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, an away point and it keeps us in 6th, but against QPR, I'd hoped to keep up our perfect record. Damn!

Sorry Bob,

You couldn't make that result up-- a equalizer in the 90th by Shabaiz Baidoo-if that really is his name.

Good news hearing that Skippy is getting his just deserts. But I'd like to see him just piss off instead.

And 3-0 away is a pretty good start.

What the hell is it with you and the pool all the time Davey?
