Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

Samuel Eto'o is a cocky young so and so. Last week, he claimed that Barca's new signings mean that the Catalan club will win all six of the trophies that they will compete for this season. Name all six.

I did this off the top of my head.
How did I do?

Absolutely correct; I thought I might stump you by including a non-English question, but no luck.

Sorry for ruining it for the rest of ya

If I were nitpicking, I think you misspelled Copa Del Rey, but I'll leave that kind of thing to you.

BTW, if I were going back to high school teaching this next year, I'd have to report for action tomorrow. Thankfully, I'm taking the year off to finish up the Ph.d coursework. Woohoo!

Wow, tomorrow. That would have been horrible.
I still have over a month to go.
Sister Debs is here again this summer. She is here until Aug 31. Should be a fun summer. When do you start your PHD Doctor Dahlgren?

I've been working on it since the fall of 2004 and now just have two semesters of course to finish up. I'll be doing my qualifying exams in the late spring/early summer 2007 and then will be onto candidacy, which means I have to complete the dissertation within two years. I'll likely be on the job market in the late spring, hoping to pick up a teaching position at a college for the fall and moving in the summer.

I've got a teaching fellowship for this next year which will bring in roughly what I was making at Paxon, amazingly enough.

Right, Davey-boy. Here's one to stump you:

"Who has the Premiership/First Division goalscoring record - i.e. most goals in one game. In what year did it happen? How many goals? For what team? Against what team? Puzzle that one out, mate!

Now that is tough one.
Any clues?
Time era? Prem or 1st?

Yes! I finally got a toughie. Here's a clue. After retiring as a player, he was a manager of Chelsea during their first championship season.

Yes indeed! How many goals? And for whom? Against whom?

I now know. I cheated.
Do you want my tainted answer?

Seven goals against Aston Villa while playing for Arsenal. I have forgotten the year. Maybe 1937?

Absolutely right. Apparently there was an eighth goal that was disallowed for offside! Blimey! I don't expect that record to be broken any time soon.
