Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Champions' League Draw

The Champions' League draw for the third qualifying round was announced today. Here it is:

Sheriff Tiraspol/Spartak Moscow v Slovan Liberec

Shakhtar Donetsk v FH Hafnarfjordur/Legia Warsaw

FC Zurich/Salzburg v Valencia

Levski Sofia/Sioni v Chievo

Hearts/Siroki Brijeg v AEK Athens

CSKA Moscow v Djurgarden/Ruzomberok

AC Milan v Cork/Red Star Belgrade

Galatasaray v Mlada Boleslav/Valerenga

Standard Liege v Gorica/Steaua Bucharest

Austria Vienna v Benfica

Ekranas/Dinamo Zagreb v Arsenal

FC Copenhagen/MyPa v Ajax

Hamburg v Osasuna

Metalurgs/Dynamo Kiev v Fenerbahce/B36 Torshavn

Liverpool v Maccabi Haifa

Lille v Debrecen/Rabotnicki

First-leg matches will be played on August 8/9 with the return legs taking
place on August 23/24.

The draw for Arsenal looks decent, but Liverpool will need flak jackets for that away draw in Haifa. You may have also noticed that the Italian courts have bottled it and allowed AC Milan back into the CL draw. I'd love to see Cork City beat them.

Any comments, gents?

The Fiver had a good bit about the Liverpool draw.

When Liverpool were paired with Israeli side Maccabi Haifa in the draw for Big Cup's third qualifying round this morning, there were predictable security concerns. Good stuff! You know, the theft of Roon's gear last week spurred another round or two of the "You nicked my stereo" style chants about the Scouse.

Just a quick update:

Arsenal will now face Dinamo Zagreb after their victory today, while Cork City were routed by Red Star Belgrade, which sets the Serbs up against the very very lucky Milan, who got a reprieve from UEFA yesterday and will enter the Champs League at the 3rd Round playoff stage.

UEFA's cowardice really sucks.

Milan should be watching the CL on the telly. Bastards always manage to escape justice.
