We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Premiership Live!!

Here we go!! The first day of the Prem. I am listening to Sheffield United vs Liverpool on Five Live. I have no idea why it isn't blacked out. Let's hope it is like this all season!!!

what the hell is this? sheffield holding liverpool to a draw and l'pool only managing a equalizer on a pen? this bodes ill. i want warnock and his hideous horde of huns sent packing every time.

Blogger United We Stand said...

It is over. Well done The Blades!!! Yes, I still want them down.
Five Live is still on

Blogger United We Stand said...

can you do me a favor and let me know if you can listen to the radio. It says that it is for the UK only but I can hear it. I am listening to it through my radio widget and not the website. Does it make a difference?

9:51 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You lads are the early birds, aren't you? What do you make of that early draw for the Blades against Liverpool? I reckon it must be a case of a promoted side playing above their heads against a big side getting a slow start. Early doors, eh?

9:56 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm loving the FSC coverage here. A full half hour preview leading right up to the first live match. A definite improvement on last season when you had an infomercial leading into the early match and then more infomercial and then Bundesliga crap at the 10 o'clock. Maybe I'll get some decent kip this season.

Newcastle vs. Wigan - any preference, lads? I've always had a soft spot for Newcastle. I reckon their fans are long overdue for some success.

9:59 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yeah, Davey that's what I'm doing as well. I had trouble at first connecting when I bought this iMac, but this works so that's how I do it. I'm not technical at all so if I every figure out how to do something, I rarely try anything else that might be better.

Not liking the Blades getting even a point. L'pool should have to shower in cold water and be subject to two-a-days in penance for that shower. They were down for much of the match and only picked up a Fowler pen. I don't care even if they've parked the team bus in front of their goal. It's just NOT ON!

10:01 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

You're not listening to the 5-Live coverage of the Arsenal? WTF?

10:02 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The radio is still on at High... sorry Emirates Stadium

10:03 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Ooh, good sign. Graham Poll in charge so that 3 chances for Gilbo!

10:04 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Not when I can watch Newcastle vs. Wigan on the telly. It's a matter of superior sensory fulfillment. Eyes over ears, lad. No disrespect. I'll follow the Arse on the Football365 site.

10:04 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

The spanking new gorgeous Emirates Stadium? Yessir!

10:04 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Stevo, you have a Mac? Do you have widgets? Do you have the bbc widget? DAMN!!! It just blacked out. I am going to listen to Skysports Saturday Live

10:06 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The radio's just switched off. Thought I was in there.

So, I'm for upstairs. I'll check back at the half.

10:06 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What's with the anti-Mac bias, Davey. Macs are the future for educators, mate. Get used to it!

10:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am not liking that they haven't started yet. The game is going to be a few minutes behind again

10:08 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I love Macs. I have one!!! There was no anti-Mac here.

10:12 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I wonder if they will give scores during the game on FSC

10:12 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I reckon if you just stick with the FSC coverage, you're alright. I'm only checking the Coke scores on the Football365 site. I don't know why there's a delay on FSC, though. Something to write them about?

Bright start for Newcastle.

10:12 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Last year they did and also at half time and full time obviously. The commentary team would just mention them, avoiding the scores of upcoming Sky televised matches, of course.

10:14 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Crikey, QPR are already one up at Preston. I really expected them to struggle - and for PNE to do well this season. Losing their manager has really hurt them.

10:15 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Luton are losing to Stoke

10:16 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Newcastle are playing both Scottie Parker and Nicky Butt. Just how many negative holding midfielders do they need? I hate this trend toward to the five midfielders, with two as destroyers.

Heskey into the book for a rash challenge.

10:17 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Luton are another side I predicted might struggle. Stoke - also rans I predict.

10:17 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Heskie first in the book. 10 Million for him???

10:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Did you see that Prem has stopped the teams from kicking the bal out if someone is hurt? The ref will stop the play if needed.

10:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, there was some discussion of that on WSD this week after the referees meeting at Ewood Park. What do you make of that?

Bloody hell, how much rain have they had in Newcastle. It looks like they're ice dancers out there. Reminds me of the time that Don Revie had Elland Rd. flooded ahead of a European tie with Real Madrid.

10:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Heskey is vastly overpriced, as are most English players - unless Leeds are selling them, that is!

10:21 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

am i right in saying that you don't want to comment on the prem scores?

10:22 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nicky Butt's coming off now after a knock from his teammate. He's got double vision. Always reminds me of the Foreigner song.

We might see Jamie Milner, speaking of ex-Leeds boys.

10:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nicky Butt already hurt

10:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No James Milner

10:24 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bugger! Palace have scored away to Birmingham. Someone must stop them - they're running away with the Coke. A win would keep their perfect record.

Oh, and Everton have scored against Watford, one of my predictions for the drop. Didn't get those predictions from you, United. Are you waiting for some inspiration today?

10:24 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

He'll always be Jamie Milner to me, lad.

10:25 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nice raking drive from Parker, tipped behind by Chris Kirkland.

How was Kirkland the other night? Must've been decent to keep a clean sheet, eh?

10:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Hammers are losing to Charlton

10:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Kirkland had a couple of good saves. He had much more to do than Robinson

10:27 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wolves one up against Burnley

10:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sir Trev. won't be happy. His Hammers are behind already. Darren Bent has opened his account for Charlton with a penalty.

10:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Both of the goals this morning were penalties too, right? Must be something in the air today. Or the result of those new directives?

10:28 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am trying to listen to Skysports Soccer Saturday but it is not working.
I am listening to talksport. They do a good job.
I just heard that Palace have been pegged back

10:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I don't think United's goal was a pen. It was a header in the first minute of the second half

10:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What are you allergic to the telly? Is Kathy watching home improvement shows? The coverage is really good. Don't swear off the FSC just because your ManYoo boys won't be featured on it this year.

Eyes better than ears, mate.

10:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I would love to see Villa score the first goal at the ES

10:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I would love to see Villa score the first goal at the ES

10:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Charlton down to ten men.

10:33 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Can't you get live streaming matches through the Manchester United website, Dave? Maybe for a small monthly fee?

10:34 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I have both on. I want to keep track on all the games.
Pompey one up

10:34 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That's not very nice to the Gooner, Dave.

10:34 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And Pompey had already missed a penalty earlier.

10:34 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, Brum have equalized against Palace. That suits me. I like draws. But we need a win today.

10:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I missed the penalty miss.
I don't care... the gooner is going to take it.

The radio says that Cardiff are the brightest of the sides. Leeds have had one chance

10:37 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I don't want to hear it, fishface!

10:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Righto sir

10:41 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The weather in the Newcastle game is just appalling. It looks like they're playing inside a giant shower. This is August in the UK?

10:43 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nice little goal there for Newcastle, made by Ameobi and nodded in by Scottie Parker. Why isn't he in the frame for England?

10:46 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Steve Stone had to be taken off for Leeds. Bakke is on

10:47 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear. That's not good. Bakke hasn't been that useful recently. It's interesting that it's only he and Gary Kelly who have survived from the O'Leary side that reached the Champs League semis.

10:51 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

WBA have suddenly surged to a two-nil lead against woeful Colchester, who could easily end up bottom of the table today.

10:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Are you keeping an eye on the Prem games? The only one that is being shown is Reading Boro. Do you know the score of that one?

10:57 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, I can't really avoid it. I was just avoiding commenting on it in case others reading the blog wanted to watch the match later. It sounds like that's the game they should've shown live. A cracker! Spurs vs. Bolton are up next live at noon. Are you gonna watch that too? I may take a break.

11:00 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What's going on at the Emirates, Gooner? I just checked the stats page and it looks like the Arse are just edging it on shots and corners. I don't know why Arsene is playing Henry up front alone with Ade in support rather than Henry and van Persie together. Surely he doesn't fear Villa at home?

11:01 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I will watch it. I have already warned Kathy and Debbie that I am not available until about 2:30. The good thing is that Kathy and the boys like to watch it too

11:01 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sunderland are losing again!! This time away at Southend

11:02 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

That helps. I've got it good that Karen likes to go to yoga Saturday mornings.

11:02 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, I'm not happy about that Southend goal. It knocks Leeds down to 15th now. (sigh)

11:04 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Look, they have only lost one game this season and that was a last minute goal playing with a man down.
I think they have started quite well

11:06 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, we have had some tricky matches so far, but the problem is that 14 teams have started better. We need a goal!

11:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

From the bbc
1556: Quick check on the half-time entertainment. Fans at Upton Park get the Hammerettes, while St James' Park is treated to ex-Newcastle legend Rob Lee. His dancing lets him down though.

I don't know which one I would prefer

11:09 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I like the sound of the Hammerettes!

Steven Taylor coming on at the back for Newcastle. He was wretched for the England U-21s on Tuesday. Did you watch that match, Dave?

11:12 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Heskey has been rubbish today. Not worth 10 p., let alone ten million.

11:15 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Southhampton have equalized against Barnsley.

11:16 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Villa have scored!!!!!!!
Sorry Steve.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

11:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Hammers have scored. They were losing last year's opening game at half time and won it. They had a great year. Same again

11:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh dear, that's not good. Will they feel that the new place is jinxed?

11:20 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

I don't know why we insist on isolating Henry either. The obvious pairing is Van Persie. The longer this goes on, the worse for us. Must score soon.

11:20 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sorry, Gooner. This is not the start they wanted.

In better news, the Hammers are back in it. Bobby Zamora has equalized for them.

11:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Arsenal are joint bottom as we speak.

Sorry Steve. This is my only chance to type that.

Kirkland is hurt again

11:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Can you believe the Madjeski match

11:24 AM
Blogger gooner71 said...

screw you David.

11:24 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Goal for Wigan. Here go the Toon again

11:26 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Now, now lads. None of that Arsene vs. Fergie needling on the blog please.

I'm liking all the draws in the Coke. Only three teams in the lead.

And Wigan have scored now! Nice finish from the Scotsman. Again it's the dreadful Steven Taylor that misses the header. What on earth is this kid doing on a professional pitch?

11:26 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Luton have scored against Stoke again. They're joint second in the Coke now. What a turn up!

11:28 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I just noticed that Luton have come from behind

11:29 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ipswich still haven't scored against Hull and Cambridge got a goal back against Weymouth. They are still losing 2-1

Newcastle back on top

11:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sunderland are two down

11:31 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Newcastle back in the lead thru Ameobi. Nice flick from Duff after a pass out from Parker - he's had a great match.

11:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Pompey two up

Kanu scored with his first touch. Arsenal need him

11:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Ipswich could earn their first point today, but would still be in the drop zone. As for Sunderland, what on earth is Niall playing at?

11:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

who has had a great match. Parker or Duff

West Ham are up

11:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

They've already got him, Dave. Have you taken a look at Adebayor? They're twins separated at birth.

11:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Parker - as I was saying earlier, I don't know why he doesn't get a look in for the England side, rather than an old boy like Phil Neville.

11:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Rovers down to ten.
Lucas Neal is off for a second yellow.
Looking good for Pompey

11:34 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

West Ham are 2-1 up now! Zamora again.

11:35 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Luton have been pegged back. Yet another draw.
Only Wolves, Southend and Boro are winning

11:36 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Barnsley are up against Sotton

11:37 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah what a ding dong between Luton and Stoke. That's why I reckon FSC should show the occasional Coke game - maybe a game of the week. I think people would watch it. I would!

11:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Poor weather, poor match and poor crowd at Elland Road

11:37 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

sotton have tied it up

11:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

THEO WALCOTT HAS COME ON THE PITCH FOR THE ARSE!!!
will he be a hero

11:42 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, it sounds like the Arse are really giving it a go. Eboue has just hit the bar!

11:45 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What a miss by Wigan

11:46 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Total sitter - they should have been level.

11:47 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Pen for Everton

11:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They scored

11:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

BUGGER!!
Arsenal scored.
They will score another one now!!!

11:49 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Robbie Blake has come off for Leeds. Doesn't sound like a good debut for him, unfortunately. And Horse is suspended for another two games after that elbow.

11:50 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, be charitable Dave.

11:50 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh, be charitable Dave.

11:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

no

11:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

no

11:51 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Alright, be like that.

So Watford are bottom of the table. That sounds like a pattern for the season.

11:52 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Bollocks! Cardiff have scored now. What on earth?!

11:53 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Pompey three up.
TOP OF THE TABLE

Cardiff just scored.
Oh dear

11:54 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

At least I'm not a Sunderland fan; they're three nil down now to a team that was in the Third Division two seasons ago.

11:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Birmingham have just scored

11:56 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, that's the last perfect record gone for sure now.

11:58 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Tremendous number of goals in the Premiership today - what a start to the season!

12:01 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Four points from four matches for the Leeds now. Not good enough. I'm off for a quiet sulk.

Nice chatting with you lads.

12:06 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm watching the tape delayed broadcast of the Reading match. I have to say that Marcus Hahnemann didn't look so clever on either of Boro's goals. Convey's playing well, though.

3:01 PM
Blogger gatorbob said...

FSC is now (4:30-5) showing Super Saturday Plus, hosted by Nick and the Irish git who used to play the "bartender" on Fox Football Friday.

They're showing all the goals from today's matches, including the Setanta games. Not bad.
