The Community Shield Live!

It's the traditional curtain raiser of the season. Liverpool vs. Chelski. A tantalizing prospect. I know you'll join me from 10 a.m. on. It's live on FSC.

fsc are late. The game has started on the radio and the TV hadn't even started.
The radio hasn't cut off yet!!

Two up front for Chelski - Sheva and Drogba - versus one up front for 'Pool - Crouchie. Geremi seems to be the replacement for Joe Cole. Apart from Cole and Cech in for Chelski, this would appear to be Jose's favored starting eleven. I don't know how Ballack and Lamps will ever play together. But we'll soon see.

Strange line up for Liverpool.
No Gerrard? No Bellamy?

10:06 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, FSC often does that - I don't know why. They're just coming out of the tunnel on the telly coverage. I suppose if you don't have any other access, it isn't a problem.

Why aren't 'Pool playing Bellamy today? It's seems like a negative line-up for them.

10:07 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

FSC are starting to annoy me. They are acting like ESPN and ABC.
The radio is still going

10:09 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I agree, Dave. Stevie G. I think has a thigh strain and their resting him. But no Hyppia? I don't know this Daniel Agger bloke and he appears to be in the center of the defense. I don't rate Pennant and he seems central to Rafa's plans this year.

You know, Liverpool on paper have every chance of pushing Chelski this season, but not with this side.

10:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Four to five minutes late. Maybe they'll catch up at half time

10:10 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

So turn off the radio, you berk! The FSC coverage is starting!

10:10 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Good to see Crouchie on from the start today.

10:11 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I will turn it off you plonker!!!! i just wanted to see if it cuts off

10:13 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I think you see the problem with this line-up for Liverpool there. A good long throw, headed on by Crouchie and then no one in the six yard box to pounce. Why?

10:14 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Welcome to the Premiership, Herr Ballack. Here's your yellow card.

10:16 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

All right!!! BOLLOCKS gets a yellow card

10:16 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

A lively run from Sheva there.

Wallop! 1-0 Liverpool!

10:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

wow, all the way from his on penalty box

10:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Pick that one out, Carlo! says Riise. His left foot is deadly from that distance. Good start.

10:19 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'm liking this start, Dave. Of course I have a ABC (Anyone But Chelski) policy this season. I'm sick of the sight of them. Especially that smug bastard Mourinho. And they've got one or two more Portuguese than I'd like.

10:21 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Where' s this Mark Gonzalez guy from - Spain? Mexico?

10:22 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

did you see that portuguese plonker. Foul, complain, get kicked, fall down, realize nothing is being called and then get up.
WHY DOESN'T HE GET BOOED LIKE RONALDO IS GOING TO.
HE IS JUST AS MUCH AT FAULT

10:22 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

What do you make of the new Jose haircut?

10:23 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He should be wearing Bovver boots.

10:25 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Oh absolutely. I'd definitely take a ManYoo championship win over the "threepeat" (as the Yanks say). I've got no time for Chelski at this point. Their first championship - I was fairly happy, they'd played well, entertained and were clearly better than the rest. Last season, though - they were pretty boring, eh? A lot of 1-0 wins.

10:25 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Handbags at fifty paces.

10:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The commentator is complaining about the lateness of the flag. I think they have to wait to see who gets the ball.

ooh, argie bargie in the middle of the park
Lamps in the book.
Send off the whole bloody midfield

10:26 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Lamps into the ref's book now. He might've gone off for that petulant kick out.

10:26 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Essien should get a card. Hands in the face

10:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I agree - the ManYoo fan on World Soccer Daily on Friday - substituting for Nick Geber - was saying that he didn't care about the result. He wanted three red cards on both sides for violent play and five game bans for each player. Great stuff!

10:27 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I don't like Zenden. There's just something about him.

10:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

You never replied to the my Carvalho comment.
He should get some abuse or is it trendy to boo Ronaldo?

10:30 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

The Premiership side that I'll be pulling for this year is Spurs - just don't tell the Gooner! I've liked the way that they've played under Martin Jol. And they've got plenty of ex-Leeds old boys in the side.

10:31 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Boy, I hope Chelsea play like this.
Not even you would have made a back pass like that

10:31 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sorry I missed your comment about Carvalho. Yeah, I think he was as much the villain in the Rooney incident as Skippy. If I were a Chelski fan I'd have wanted him shopped out. In fact Steven Cohen on WSD said very much the same thing. Out with the bad Portuguese rubbish!

10:32 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ahh, you want to follow a relegation battle.
Seriously, I have always like Spurs. I just fear that last season was their chance to make the top four.

10:33 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I wonder about Chelski this year. I really wonder. Now Ballack is hobbling off. That can't be good.

10:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

OOOH, BOLLOCKS HURT.
This is getting better every minute.
A hamstring problem

10:33 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Really! You think Spurs will be in relegation trouble this season? I don't think so. I don't think they'll win anything, but they'll be in the top ten somewhere and perhaps in contention for Champs League spaces. They've done some good biz over the summer.

The teams that should be in relegation trouble are:

Watford
Sheffield Utd.
Fulham
Blackburn
Wigan

I would've added Villa to that list until they brought in Martin O'Neill. He should right that boat.

10:35 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

You're loving this, aren't you, you ManYoo ghoul?

10:36 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Can I sign you up for my ABC policy?

10:36 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Sheva's looked better in this match than most of what I'm seen from him lately, including the WC performances.

10:38 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Did Ballack come back on? I can't see him - are they playing with ten?

10:39 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am absolutely in the ABC camp.
It hurts me to root forr Liverpool and the Arse but I need Chelsea to be knocked down.

I was just kidding about relegation but they aren't going to be in the top four.

I agree with your relegation candidates. I feel Pompey have done enough to be in the top half

10:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I went off to the bathroom.
Have you spotted BOLLOCKS?

10:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sheva can't handle the pace

10:42 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, Pompey have the Russian moneybags behind them now - and 'Arry is good enough to keep them around. They may actually improve this season. Charlton may also be in some trouble. Let's be honest, beyond the top six or seven there are some really ordinary sides in the Prem.

10:45 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, Bollock is back on, but he does seem to be limping still. I don't know why they're risking him.

10:45 AM

I just went back and saw that Kalou came on for Bollocks.
How did you miss it. At least I was out of the room.

I don't agree with that

Bob has been logged out so I stopped posting.
BUT Liverpool just scored. Great cross and great header.
What is going on in this world that I cheered when LIVERPOOL scored!!!
Belamy is looking good. He has great touch and a lot of pace. He is going to be a handful for everyone this season.
On the commentary, they were talking about Jose saying that Liverpool having to win today against Chelsea's second team. Well, I think it was more of a reserve Liverpool and top Chelski

11:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

great save by Cudicini.

My set up here is that the computer is downstairs from the telly with the digital cable.

I'm completely down with the ABC sentiments forwarded here. Roman's filthy money and Chelsea's pernicious and corrupt influence on the Prem are only a few reasons that I cannot stand them. Maureenyo is a little wanker of the first order and every season that I'm forced to hear commentators and read the papers who praise him make me sick. But there are signs that it's not going to be so easy. Bollocks and Lamps don't seem able to play on the same pitch, and the sheer number of world class midfielders that they've accumulated bodes ill for team unity. And Kallou and Essien still don't replace one Makalele so they're going to have to hope he's got another season in his old legs. SWP can't even get a starting role in this game. What a loser he's turned out to be.

That said, Sheva looked better and scored a stunner linking well with Lamps. I blame L'pool's defence for playing up the pitch so high and maybe for watching Drogba so closely that they forgot about Sheva.

I also thought that today was a warning about McLaren's decision to give Terry the armband. Fact: Terry was terrible today, possibly at fault in both goals, but certainly on the second. Fact: He looked very shakey even when L'pool didn't have a finish to punish him. Fact: Terry looked second best to Rio during the World Cup, missing simple clearances, caught for pace, ball-watching on set pieces, and putting clearances in the danger zone instead of row Z or another teammate. And he did the same thing today. I worry that if he continues to be inconsistant, we've just traded one sacred cow for another and that he'll be in the first eleven regardless of form. I would have preferred Gerrard who when off-form is less likely to be punished as effectively as Terry at center back.

I liked Bellemy and Crouch and their goal together must make that partnership the primary one. I'd also like to see Alonso and Gerrard as the L'pool main pairing. Pennent had bags of potential, but it now looks like he's not got more than what we've already seen. If I were Rafa, he'd only start in mid-week Carling Cup matches where the opposition is more likely to be fooled by his pace and cutting runs inside.

Finally, is L'pool's kit the worst ever? Have Liverpool ever had a collar before? It's just too busy with all that white trim and overall is awful.

Now that the powers that be at Blogspot have allowed me back on the website, let me concur with Gooner's thoughts.

After celebrating Chelski's loss yesterday, I began to realize that the only downside of a run of bad form for Chelski is its effect on England. Let's be honest, the Chelski lads are crucial to England's success and the alarmingly bad form of Lamps, Terry and the injury of Joe Cole is of real concern.

I support giving Terry the armband, but it does make it difficult to drop him if he goes through a spate of bad performances, which is a definite possibility. There were several times when he missed crucial challenges, including getting caught out on Crouchie's goal.

Finally, you'll hear it here first - Chelski will not win the Premiership this season. You'll have to wait until the end of the week to find out who I'm tipping to win the Championship this season.
