Alex Ferguson opts to rest Cristiano Ronaldo, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer starts the game along with Alan Smith and Darren Fletcher does not even make the squad after figuring in Tuesday's first leg against Milan at Old Trafford.
And the teams for the live match:
Chelsea: Cech, Geremi, Carvalho, Terry, Bridge, Diarra, Mikel, Essien, Wright-Phillips, Kalou, Shevchenko.
Subs: Cudicini, Lampard, Boulahrouz, Joe Cole, Drogba.
Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Campo, Meite, Michalik, Gardner, Teymourian, Thompson, Tal, Speed, Davies, Anelka.
Subs: Al Habsi, Vaz Te, Martin, Sinclair, Augustyn.
Referee: R Styles (Hampshire)
A lively start here at Stamford Bridge with half chances for Sheva (who doesn't do half chances) and Kalou.
Update from Goodison: Both sides are relying on the long-ball at the moment but can't seem to find their own players as they hit and hope. 0-0.
Golden opportunity there for Anelka to crush Chelski hearts. The ball ran to him on the edge of the box, he tried to side foot a curler but he got it all wrong.
And who would have thought it?! Everton have scored! A huge roar goes up at the Shed End as the news of that goal. Stubbs sent a rocket of a free kick at the United goal and Michael Carrick deflected it past VDS. The lead is officially down to two points.
Where are you Dave?
GOAL! Bolton! Well, well, well. You couldn't write this script, could you. Some sloppy defending in the Chelski box allows Michalik to stab home a crucial goal for Bolton's run at Europe. They're not singing anymore.
GOAL! Kalou equalizes after only two minutes. A lovely diving header from a gorgeous Wayne Bridge cross.
Nearly an own goal from Gardner there. SWP picked out a cross, Gardner deflected toward goal and Jaskalainen clawed it away. Whew!
And now Gardner's in the ref's book after an XXX tackle on SWP.
Sheva goes close there after a silky turn. It's all Chelski now and the crowd is in fine voice.
Update from Goodison: The game is becalmed at the moment as the keepers trade goalkicks with seemingly no urgency. United string together some good passes in midfield before Evra misdirects an easy pass and they have to race back. 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Carvalho is in trouble after a stretching tackle and he's coming off for Lamps. Essien drops into center back position. That could be a big loss for Wednesday.
More good stuff from Chelski - a sweet cross from Geremi and Sheva hit the volley cleanly, but well saved by the keeper.
From the resulting corner, Jaskalainen is in trouble again but Essien can't find the net.
Sheva seemed to be dragged over on the edge of the box there, but the ref waved play on.
Bridge is having an excellent game as everything is going down the left side. He sets Kalou on his bike and Lamps can't get the cross down to shoot. Corner...
and GOAL! Kalou again - great cross and another header. The Bolton man on the line just can't knock it over. Could be an own goal off the keeper.
So both sides are officially on 82 points, with United just ahead on goal difference. What an end to the season this is shaping up to be!
Mourinho - the picture of sartorial elegance on the touchline - is sitting back with a smug look on his face as if to say, "I knew that would happen."
To their credit, Bolton aren't lying down. They're continuing to play decent football. They scored against the run of play and perhaps think that they still have a stake in this one.
Update from Goodison: Everton appear in control here as they calmly deal with United's increasingly desperate attacks. 1-0 coming into half time.
Half-time: It's been a breathtaking match so far. You can't really see Chelski losing this one now but anything could happen. 2-1.
Second half starting...United will have to show their mettle to rescue the situation now.
Kalou misses an early opportunity. He's put clean through but just can't collect the ball.
Kieran Richardson is warming up for United. The first roll of the dice.
GOAL! 2-2. This game just keeps serving up the goods. A free kick is floated in and an unmarked Kevin Davies rises to nod home. Well, well. The United lead is back to two points.
Another twist of the drama. Everton are 2-0 up!
Chelski will want a quick response. Drogba is on now and Chelski are essentially at full strength.
Drogs is lining up a free kick here.
The Chelski crowd are buzzing again as the Blues win another corner. Collected by Jaskalainen.
Joe Cole warming up on the bench. They're throwing it all at this match now.
The defensive Diarra has come off for Joe Cole - a really attacking move. They're going for the three points.
Bit of the Nat Lofthouse action from Drogs who tries to elbow Jaskalainen into the net.
Oooh, Drogs lays one across the area and surely someone should've been there to touch home.
Richardson has replaced Evra at Goodison - will it be enough?
You almost sense a third goal for Chelski here - they are relentless.
Clever interplay by Lamps and Cole on the edge of the box; it deserved a better finish from Lamps.
The Stamford Bridge crowd have suddenly gone all quiet...and it's because ManYoo have got one back at Goodison through the unlikely figure of John O'Shea.
Gardner is all over Drogs as he tries to get a cross over. But he wins yet another corner.
And Ronaldo has joined the fray at Goodison. So all of the principles are on now wasting precious energy for this week's Champions League matches in the freakish heat of this English weekend.
And United have a second goal! This is an incredible day. Three points again separate the sides.
Ooh, the referee waves on a definite handball on the edge of the area. And Mourinho is predictably off his seat chattering at the fourth official.
And the news from Goodison is that the goal has been marked down as an own goal by....Phil Neville. Could the fix be in? Dear oh dear.
Everton have brought on Beattie and McFadden so they're announcing their intent to go for the three points.
Chelski just seem to be missing that sniffer type of goalscorer. There have been loads of opportunities flashed across the Bolton box without the requisite touch.
Kalou wins another corner....
It's swung over and defended well.
Down to the last ten minutes of both matches - will anyone break the deadlock?
Well, well, well. United seem to have won it - 3-2! Incredible come back by the Red Devils. If they go on to win the Championship now, they'll fully deserve it.
If the scores stay the same, United could win the championship at the City of Manchester ground next weekend.
And it's Rooney who's scored United's third - good lad.
Geremi makes a hash of that shot and you can sense the frustration in the Stamford Bridge crowd. Jose Mourinho for once looks agitated on the sideline.
Incredible drama here. Kalou goes down, ref waves on and Drogba nearly gets on to the rebound.
Into stoppage time now. The air seems to have gone out of Chelski's balloon here.
Bolton hanging on for a point, which would see them jump over Everton. Chelski's quadruple hopes dribbling away here.
Corner to come for Chelski...could be the last chance. And it's cleared. That must be it.
Full-time: Advantage United. It's been an incredible morning already and now we turn to the main event - the relegation battle in the Premiership and Coke.
Oh, and you're all officially numpties!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
