Copa America Update
As the first round of the Copa winds up, you might be excused for writing off the USA's chances after two spanking losses. However, a quick glance at the tables shows that if Mexico beat Chile by two goals or more and the U.S. beat Colombia by the same margin, the U.S. goes through as the second best third-placed team and would face Venezuela who topped Group A last night. Not bad, eh? Any comments, lads?

Setting up here to watch Mexico vs. Chile. I'm starting to realize that the advantage of watching the Copa on Univision as opposed to GOLTV is their focus on what they refer to as "Los Chicas de Copa." Rather tasty.
We're of course looking for a 4th of July present from our cousins to the south tonight, but with fifteen minutes gone it's been all Chile with that bastid Suazo really giving the Mexicans some headaches.
Thirty minutes gone and still 0-0. Come on El Tri - we need two or three out of you tonight!
Half-time - 0-0: I'm beginning to suspect that the fix is in. Any kind of result puts Chile's participation in some doubt, so it looks as if Mexico is playing out a draw with them. There is absolutely no zip to the match at all and an awful lot of passes are going sideways or back to the defenders.
Second half starting and my fears have been confirmed by the addition of that Cauhtemoc Blanco wanker. But if he can "bunny hop" into the goal with the ball, I'll offer him my deepest apologies.
Mexico, Mexico rah rah rah!
No chance. Frankly, the C-list squad we sent didn't deserve to progress anyway.
I thought they played above their individual abilities in any case, but there was a serious lack of a cutting edge up front, and weak spots through the mid. And I really hope that Bradley puts Guzman in goal tomorrow for the meaningless finish because Keller's past it.
Feilhaber, Clark, Bornstein, Demerit, Olsen all looked good and should be squad regulars now. Johnson looked dangerous again and maybe shouldn't be completely written off.
Twellman didn't take his chances and unless he rrrrips it up tomorrow, he might have to wait a while for another chance. Shame.
Kjelstan? Ngyuen? I really think Bradley was taking the piss with those two.
I think there was value in playing these guys and having a look, but as Ray Hudson pointed out, I too wonder if the organizers of future Copas will be as quick to invite the USA to compete unless we take the tournament a bit more seriously next time. Bradley should address that publicly to head off any potential that we don't get behind Costa Rica again in their plans.
