UF Student Tasered at Kerry Event
By now, you may have caught the news that a UF student Andrew Mayer was arrested and tasered at a speech by John Kerry yesterday for deigning to ask him a tough question or two about why he didn't contest the 2004 election. Here it is in all of its YouTube glory. The university issued a pathetic response today and I'll be asking the Graduate Student Council on Thursday night to demand that cops be removed from all future student council organized events.

Unbelievable!
Is that Kerry in the background just waffling on as this poor guy gets taken down?
I didn't have much respect for Kerry anyway, but this is just beyond belief. I hope the kid hits every effing news outlet, sues Kerry and the University for every last cent and that Kerry has to wear this like a millstone for the rest of his career.
Be careful Gator. You're in the the belly of the beast there.
I meant to save the message that I just sent Senator Kerry but I screwed it up by saving this link.
Suffice to say that I encourage every one of us that watches this to send him a message condemning the way he ignored this kid's screams while the police just tortured him. You can hear Kerry answering some question, but there's no way he doesn't hear this kid begging not to be tasered. I hope this kid's parents go f*****g medieval with their lawyers.
But why didn't anyone else jump these pigs? There's a student that's laughing at one point. WTF
Look, here's the link to send Kerry a very angry message. I did.

You're absolutely right about Kerry, Gooner. You can clearly hear him droning away in his characteristic way - "If everyone could just calm down..." Calm down! The guy's bloody being tasered and is screaming out in pain.
Here's the statement that Kerry issued today:
"“In 37 years of public appearances, through wars, protests and highly emotional events, I have never had a dialogue end this way. I believe I could have handled the situation without interruption, but I do not know what warnings or other exchanges transpired between the young man and the police prior to his barging to the front of the line and their intervention. I asked the police to allow me to answer the question and was in the process of responding when he was taken into custody. I was not aware that a taser was used until after I left the building. I hope that neither the student nor any of the police were injured. I regret enormously that a good healthy discussion was interrupted."
Pretty weak. It reminds me why he went down in flames in 04. I'm all over this - the cops have got to be tossed out of these meetings.
I don't believe him. He's a liar.
Just the footage on this YouTube shows that this kid was screaming. If you can hear Kerry above the screaming, Kerry could hear the kid and that's really all there is to it.
I hate the fact that Kerry's being so chicken-shit about how this went down. I know his aids have found all the footage of this and he's seen it and yet he's decided to hide behind the untruth that he was unaware of what happened.
I also sent a message to Olberman's countdown show saying that if he can cut up Larry Craig for a hypocritical moment where only Craig got hurt, why not go after Kerry whose craven behavior at the scene of an assault got someone hurt.
Spot on, again. There's no way that Kerry wasn't aware of this going on. I've been in that hall and it's not that bloody big. You can see the back of the room easily from the stage.
Nice on with contacting "Countdown." Unfortunately Alison Stewart is subbing all week as Keith came down with appendicitis over the weekend and had surgery on Sunday.
I've been working late and didn't realize that. Bad news for Keith. I wasn't in my 50's or like you in my 40's when I had mine, but it was no fun.
Keith's back for tonight's show. Crikey, he must be made of iron!
Stunning victory for the Gator tonight at the Graduate Student Council meeting. To be fair, my proposal came up in the "Other Business" section at the tail end of the meeting and there was barely a quorum at the time, but still...the cops will no longer be welcome at our sponsored events. Hurrah!
