Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

As I said, I am please with that draw.
As it happened, England had the choice of Holland, Italy, France and Croatia left in the bag. I think we got the best!!!
So, the top of each group qualify and the best eight out of nine runners-up go into a play-off. I would guess that the record for the 8 six team groups drop the scores against the lowest teams so it evens out with the 5 team group.
Overall I am pleased.
Your thoughts gentlemen?
Interesting African Draw
It is the draw for the African Cup of Nation as well as the World Cup in one.
So, South Africa is in the draw but will automatically qualify for the WC
Thanks for covering the draw, Dave. I know that we've just been knocked out by the Croatians but this draw could've been much, much worse. Of the seeds, I would've preferred Greece but I'll take Croatia over all of the others.
I'm assuming that the winners of all nine groups go through automatically and that there's some kind of play-off system for the also-rans, right?
I've just read your penultimate post again and it confirms what I thought - nine go through automatically and then the top eight second-placed teams go into play-offs, presumably two-legged affairs. I'm pleased by this. Under a decent manager there is no way that England should miss out and I'd like to exact some revenge on that chain-smoking cheat, Slavan Bilic.
This is a group that England should top at a gallop. You can't say that England are unlucky.
The Croatia matches should be full of fire, but Ukraine aren't good, and Belarus are hopeless, even with the good Hleb canceling outh the mediocre Hleb brother, and Stepanovs still the
defensive anchor of the squad.
And if the tabs are right, Mourinho wants the England job. I hope one of his conditions is Barwick's head on a platter.
I'm optimistic that this is a fortunate group for England.
I'd take "The Special One" in a heartbeat. I wasn't keen on his style at Porto but his time at Chelski changed my mind about him. The bottom line is that he's one of the only managers who has managed to bring a group of super egos together into a winning side. He's exactly what England need.
I don't think he will take it. He wants day to day stuff until he gets older. He is going to Milan or Madrid
Gator B . . . What flavor Kool-Aid did you get served today at brunch? (Sorry, Dave, we missed you) . . . I put England's odds at getting to SA at about 50/50 . . . Croatia are a better side than us and should win the group . . . the Ukraine will be difficult opponents, but I do like our chance at finishing second. . . that leaves it to the luck of the draw in the play-in round . . . do we get Romania or Russia?
I appreciate the sense of pessimism after this current campaign but I see McClaren as a historically poor England manager and have a lot of hope for the current crop of England youngsters, who, under a coach who knows how to win, should get us safely through to SA. I'm not impressed by Croatia and I reckon that we should have easily taken four points off of them in the current campaign.
And it was a delicious cup of Belgian coffee that's colored my mood today. Loved it!
I'm still jealous!!!
Bob, am I going to see you in December. The rest of you can push off!!!
I hope so; I haven't heard from Empire State yet, but I've got my fingers crossed. Cheers!
