Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

F.A. Cup 4th Round Draw

Some plum fixtures came out of the hat this morning. The big news is that Fat Sam can't buy a break. Even if his faltering Newcastle get through their replay with plucky Stoke, they'll face Arsenal at the Emirates in the next round. Chelsea will travel to Wigan, United will face either Reading or Spurs at home and Liverpool have the tantalizing prospect of a home match with non-leaguers Havant and Waterlooville if they can knock off Luton in their replay. Here's the full draw:

Arsenal v Stoke City/Newcastle
Coventry v Walsall/Millwall
Oldham v Huddersfield Town
Swindon/Barnet v Fulham/Bristol Rovers
Wigan v Chelsea
Luton/Liverpool v Swansea/Havant & Waterlooville
Southend v Barnsley
Southampton v Norwich/Bury
Man Utd v Tottenham/Reading
Portsmouth v Plymouth
Derby/Sheff Wed v Preston
Watford v Wolves
Peterborough v Charlton/West Brom
Sheff Utd v West Ham/Man City
Mansfield v Middlesbrough
Tranmere/Hereford v Cardiff

Your thoughts, gents?

I am scared of a Cup tie with Spurs no matter where it is. It could have been better. I am pleased that there are more all Prem ties and more will be gone from the Cup.

I don't know why the Cup has lost something. It is the managers that are doing it. Why are Blackburn putting out weaken sides. What else are they going to win??

Why not buy Berbatov in the next week. He'd be Cup-tied but at least you wouldn't have to worry about him sticking one in your net. Would you really be concerned about facing Jermaine bloody Defoe?

Good question about Blackburn. What about Birmingham putting out a weakened? Who the bloody hell do they think they are? Of course the answer is money. As I mentioned in a post on Saturday, the Cup winners get £1 and the bottom Prem. club gets £30. 'Nuff said.

I DON"T WANT HIM TO GO TO CHELSKI!!

I remember you saying that about the bottom team in the Prem. It is ridiculous money.
Do you think the FA Cup should get a Champions League place? I know it doesn't mean much because the Big Four are going to win it anyway but the other would have to win six games(maybe five if the other finalist is a top three team). That is easier than the 38 league season.

No trip up North and a chance to hammer another nail in Piltdown Sam's coffin. I haven't seen the result. Hope the Magpies scraped through so that we can "welcome" them to the Emirates abitoir.

That way Piltdown can get his order in for Skegness Butlins early doors.

Davey, you're safe as houses. Lee, Dawson, Kaboul, Chimbonda. Feeling better? You should be.

No, Dave, I'm not in favor of a Champion's League spot for the Cup winners. As you know, when it comes to footer, I pine for the past, so I'd like to see a return of the old European Cup as a simple knock-out competition among the champions of the different leagues, the Cup Winners Cup for Cup winners and the UEFA for the also rans. The system we've got now concentrates the money and power around the Champions League and cheapens everything else.

I like the idea that if you make it to the FA Cup final you get a free pass if you're going down and the 4th from bottom takes the drop for you . . .
