Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Footie Trivia Question of the Week

David Beckham recently earned his 100th cap for England, so I thought it was high time for this question:

"David Beckham made his debut for England in a fall 1996 3-0 win over Moldova in 1998 WC qualifying. How many of his ten teammates that day can you name? Who was the skipper? And who was the manager that day?

Good luck, lads!

Boy is that a tough one!!

I remember my 90 Minutes magazine having the headline about that game

They think it's Moldova, it is now!!

Okay, I would say that Glenda Hoddle was the manager.
Here are some of my guesses(not cheating)
Seaman, Peirce, Gazza, Sherringham, Shearer and Barmby

Glad that I could stretch your memory for once. I was beginning to think that you were part footie cyborg.

Spot on with Glenda as the gaffer. Seaman was indeed in goal, the Neviller was the #2, Psycho was the #3, Gazza was the #8, Shearer was the #9 and Nicky Barmby was the #10. But Ready Ted was not in the side that day - tummy bug, perhaps?

Good start, though. You've six of Beckham's teammates. I'm frankly surprised that you missed out on the captain of the side.

How about Pallister and Ince?
Le Tis?

I thought you might be able to come up with the United pair. Yes, they were both in the side and The Guvnor was the skipper for the day.

Le Tiss was not in the side, though. Two more to go. I'd be shocked if you got both of them. I'll give you a hint. Glenda was playing it safe away from home so Shearer was alone up front. So you're looking for a center back partner for Pallister and another midfielder.

Good luck!

They were Hagerty F., Hagerty R., Tomkins, Noble, Carrick, Beckham, Crapper, Dewhurst, MacIntyre, Treadmore, Davitt.

The useless, useless, bastards!

Nice "Ripping Yarns" reference, Gooner. I wonder if that's on DVD?

Dave, you're right on Gareth Southgate. The #11 was Andy Hinchcliffe. Bet you'd never have got that one, eh?

He was my next guess
What was his club team?
Everton?

Yep!

Oh, he was your next guess, eh? No chance. You'd have been guessing all day long and would never have got Hinchcliffe. It must have been his only cap. In every England side you've got at least one player like Hinchcliffe that you think - "Blimey, he got a cap for England? Why?"
