Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Pennsylvania!

After a grueling six-week campaign in the Keystone State, it's all finally coming to an end tonight. Or is it? All the pundits are suggesting that an Obama win tonight would be Hillary's Waterloo. But I'm predicting a single-digit win for Clinton (5-10% probably), which means they go on to North Carolina and Indiana and....

Please make it go away!

Daily Kos is reporting:

"Pennsylvania is on its way to the record turnout that election officials have been predicting for weeks, according to poll workers from across the state."

Whether that helps Barack or Hillary, we won't know until later.

Oh, and Pool and Chelski have kicked off.

Coming up on half-time at Anfield - 0-0.

1-1 at full-time. It sounds like there were goals right at the end of each half, first Kuyt and then an own goal by Riise right at the death. Advantage Chelski, right?

Now back to the political focus...

Huffington Post is reporting an exit poll finding of Clinton 52 Obama 48.

If that holds up, it will be awfully difficult for Hillary to keep going. Looking forward to that concession speech.

As the polls are closing, MSNBC is, not surprisingly, calling it "too close to call."

The longer this thing stretches into the evening, the better for Barack Obama. There is a stark difference between the two camps. You could hear a pin drop behind Andrea Mitchell at Clinton HQ a moment ago, whereas the crowd is really pumped up and enjoying a John Mellancamp performance at Obama HQ.

MSNBC now changing their status to "too early to call," which means that there isn't enough data but there is a slight Clinton lead.

At 8:50, Hillary Clinton has been confirmed as the projected winner in Pennsylvania. Not good news. I was hoping that it would be tighter later into the evening. This gives Hills the chance to do another despicable victory speech.

At 3% counted:

Clinton 55%
Obama 45%

This thing better get tighter soon.

At 6%:

Clinton 52%
Obama 48%

That's looking better and alligned with those earlier exit polls.

Rachel Maddow has just argued that the point of Obama spending so much money on the Philly market was to bankrupt Hillary. Smart analysis - she's now down to $9 million.

At 52%:

Clinton 54%
Obama 46%

And Hillary is about to take the stage...

Hey, Gator, just finished watching the Caps get eliminated by the Flyers on the telly. Bummer. The PA results are a bummer as well, although not unexpected. Hillary is in it til' the bitter, bitter end and the Dems will not regain the White House. I still blame the other rust belt state . . .Way to go Ohio . . . you blew the 2004 general and now the 2008 Dem primary . . .

I wouldn't feel so down in the mouth, Trev. The big story out of PA. as far as I'm concerned is the 300K new voters registered. Unless you think that they're all Hillary fans who won't vote for Barack, it bodes well for the Dems in the fall.

As for the primary race, it really is winding down. The only people still stumping for her at this point are her own inner circle and the GOP media hacks champing at the bit to tear her a new one in the fall. She really needed to win by 20% last night in order to win the lion's share of the delegates. In the end she'll end up netting 10-15 delegates and that won't make a dent in the delegate count. Barack will go on to steamroll her in North Carolina in two weeks and Indiana is a toss-up. The end is nigh.
