Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
301 Comments:
In the early kick-off, Arsenal are doing the business against Reading 2-0, with goals from Adebayor and Gilberto. That will give some hope to Fulham who take on Liverpool at Craven Cottage today.
After Chelski's win on Thursday against Everton, ManYoo's lead at the top has been cut to two points (although they have a game in hand and far better goal difference). It puts a bit of pressure of Fergie's boys as they travel to Ewood Park for a tricky away fixture with Blackburn.
Most of the action is at the bottom of the Prem, however, with Bolton visiting Boro, Wigan hosting Spurs and Fulham trying to put a leash on Fernando Torres.
And of course, most of my attention with be on my beloved Leeds, who take on the evil Millwall, who manager has been having a go at us all with about the points deduction issue. It could be a bloodbath and this after we had two men sent off against Huddersfield.
Good Morning,
I am here and VERY nervous!!
The Championship is NOT over as I have been saying all the time!
Rafa has made 8 changes for Costa Del Pool today at the Cottage
Woody is out of the Spurs side with an ankle injury. That is our early match
Morning chaps. I see that now the pressure's off, we've gone back to winning. Typical. Still better than a loss or draw against a pretty abject Reading. Think they're for the drop? Wouldn't be surprised at all.
Good Morning Steve, I think you're right about Reading. BUT can you see Bolton or Fulham getting the points needed?
According to talksport, Hleb may be in trouble. He walloped someone off the ball
Leeds going to the Den to take on Millwall. I hope both sets of fans behave themselves
Possibly Fulham. I thought they looked up for it last week. McBride and Bullard might squeak it for them. Mighty mountain to climb, but I'll be supporting their effort. Fulham's survival is of huge importance to America's footballing stature.
Keller, McBride, Dempsey, Boca, and Johnson? I really don't want the lesson of their 2007/08 season to be that you can't win with Yanks in the side. Derby have Lewis and Feilhaber, but I think that the thug/poodle Robbie Savage may carry more of the can for their demise.
I agree with you about Fulham. I just don't like how Fulham treated Chris Coleman. I don't think they should have canned him for Sanchez
Hleb? I think you've got the wrong Alexandre. It's Song that clobbered that bloke.
1404: Graeme Murty is absolutely furious, suggesting he was clipped in the face by Alex Hleb
1448: "I really hope my future belongs to Arsenal," says Cesc Fabregas after the Gunners win at home to Reading.
Was there talk of him leaving??? I heard he could be the captain next season
Morning, lads! I totally agree with you lot on Fulham. It's a disaster for MLS and American footie if they get relegated. It's been a rotten year for Yanks in the Premiership, with Eddie Lewis relegated with Derby (and even worse Benni Feilhaber on the bench at Derby!) and Fulham lads struggling. Only Friedel and Howard have shined and I think the goalkeeper issue has been settled for quite some time. We have to prove ourselves as outfield players.
I'll be leaving for an hour. Today's hazardous waste day in Alexandria and I need to put out our used batteries and old paint and other unsavory stuff that we've been keeping in the shed.
Good luck to both Uniteds today. A pox on Chelsea and all that sail with them.
Unfortunately, I expect a complete ruck at the Den today, with a lot of aggro between the sides during the week over the tribunal issue. It could get nasty on and off the pitch.
Cheers Steve
At Fulham, Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez makes eight changes to his Liverpool line-up!
I still think it's mistaken I.D. Davey.
59 min: Arsenal substitution: Emmanuel Eboue on, Kolo Toure off. Elsewhere on the pitch, enraged Reading skipper Graham Murty is holding his jaw after being cuffed in passing by Alexandre Song. It wasn't exactly a haymaker he was on the receiving end of, but if the ref had seen it, Song would probably have got his marching orders.
Oops, I've just noticed that you posted that earlier. Sorry, Dave!
I take it that you're more willing to lose Song for a few matches than Hleb, eh Gooner?
It's kick-off time and as usual FSC are farting about showing ads for diet food and work-out gear. Get on with it!
No, here they go - just about on time.
Horrible pitch at the JJB!
Both sides quick out of the traps here.
I hope Cesc stays. I hope Flamini stays. I think getting 10-11million pounds from Inter for Hleb might be good business though.
It's hard because we've not won anything by playing fluid football. There's also an impression that Wenger doesn't trust star footballers to heel to his vision. And there's the fact that our wage structure has kept a few players from earning what they could elsewhere in Spain or even the Milanese or Roman clubs in Italy.
What we have going for us is the example of Viera's rapid drop in form after departure, Henry's spotty record in Spain, and the storehousing of players by these big clubs and them never getting a game. If someone wants to play first team ball, they stay. If they're looking for a big money move, they go.
Oh yes. Rigobert's nephew is a carthorse.
Hate the rugby lines
Berba scores an early goal
GOAL! Berba with the first knife into the ribcage of Wigan. Good stuff from our Aaron and a nifty finish on the volley. 0-1 Spurs.
Could Wigan still be in trouble?
They still have to play Reading at home, Villa away and United at home
Bloody hell, that could have been two
Lennon nearly set up Malbranque for a second there. Wigan are all over the shop at the back here.
This is all Spurs
The fans are singing something rude to the Big Ben theme which prompts some chuckling from the commentator. I couldn't hear what they were singing - could you?
Big score from the Championship
Blackpool have scored against Wednesday
GOAL! Good finish from Heskey on the turn there. This is thrilling stuff so far.
Well done Heskey... nice finish
Southend have taken the lead away to Carlisle in a key Division 1 promotion battle.
The only two goals in the Prem so far. I guess FSC chose right
Southend have taken the lead at Carlisle
Talsport say that Southend are the form team for the playoffs
Huddlestone's gone down in a heap and the ref takes the unusual step of stopping the game while Wigan were on the attack.
I didn't hear the channt
Walsall are losing to Bournemouth!!
They keep saying that Doncaster have secured the playoff spot and that Southend only need a point, but that's forgetting the tribunal. It would be all change if we were on 83 points rather than 68.
Lovely, that should make us safe for the playoff spots. We need Jermaine Beckford back and healthy for the playoff push.
Speaking of being in trouble, Colchester have taken the lead against Coventry
Goal for Liverpool and a massive dent for Fulham's survival hopes. Lucas threads a pass through to Pennant who finds the net at Kasey Keller's near post. The keeper should have done better there.
Jermaine Pennant has scored for Costa Del Pool
This is end to end stuff
Why can't that damn Alves score against Bolton after his brace against my lot?
Bad news for Fulham, eh? They're rooted on 27 points now. Tough to see them coming back.
Goal for West Ham against woeful Derby and it's Bobby Zamora.
The Hammers have taken the lead against the hapless Rams
That was poor from Jenas. He was clear and he didn't even look up to pick a player out in the middle.
Swansea are losing at home
Lovely. Yeovil have taken the lead against the Swans. We're coming after you!
We always seem to repeat each other with our comments
The ref shouldn't have any problems with the ten yards on this pitch
You guys need Brighton to drop some points today
Peterbrough have taken the lead against third place Hereford in League 2. That should wrap up Ince and Baby Fergie's promotion
That would be nice.
Should that have been a pen. for Berba?
Was Berba brought down there or did he go looking for a pen?
Yes, it was a pen
Blackpool have gone back in the lead against Sh. Wed.
Cambridge have taken the lead at Salsbury. That should go a long way to securing their playoff position
Paul Dickov has put Blackpool back in front against Sheffield Wednesday against the run of play. Bad news for Wednesday. They will be glad drop rivals Coventry are trailing too.
1529: "Any United fans sat right now on their increasingly squeaky bums? Willing to take a win of any kind and get out unscathed at the minute. Please don't rest anyone Fergie."
Ant, via text
Couldn't agree more
Snap!
Oh, go on Fergie. VDS, Rio, Ronaldo and Rooney could use a rest.
Shut it
I know, great minds think alike
Walsall levelled up against Bournemouth but Joe Kuffour has immediately replied for Bournemouth who now lead that League One game 2-1.
Ha ha!
Bad news
Walsall have tied it up
Their goal scored by some bloke named BETSY
You're ahead of me
Wigan don't deserve to go down with this preformance.
United better have sewn it up before we come here
Bournemouth's second still hasn't popped up!
It has now
Brighton have taken the lead
Bloody Seagulls!
Fulham are apparently giving Liverpool everything they can handle. Desperate stuff from the Cottagers.
I could see United scoring some goals against this lot
Cambridge are two up
What's happening at the new Den?
Millwall are ahead in the shot count - seven to three.
Half time at the JJB
Good half
As of now, Brighton are two points behind Leeds with two to play. Leeds REALLY need to win
Leeds have Yeovil away next Friday while Brighton are away to Bristol Rovers
The last day of the season have Brighton hosting Swansea and Leeds welcoming Gillingham
Advantage Leeds?
Burnley have taken a late first half lead against trouble Southampton
They're out for the second half
In League One, the top three both trail which means Swansea may not win the title today after all. Southend, who lead 1-0 at Carlisle, are on course for the play-offs and could yet be going up automatically, although that remains a long shot. Forest are 0-0 with Luton and on course for the play-offs too. Leeds are 0-0 at Millwall and Brighton, hoping to overtake them in sixth place, lead Hartlepool 1-0.
Coventry have scored a crucial equalizer at Colchester
Bolton and Boro had seven minutes of injury time in the first half so they're late starting the second.
Playoff rivals Forest are still 0-0 with cellar dwellers Luton Town, while Doncaster are behind to Leyton Orient.
Coventry have taken the lead
Hull have fallen behind
Wednesday are down to ten men
Carlisle have tied it up with Southend
Already relegated Scunthorpe have equalized against Cardiff
1614: Bolton go perilously close to an opener at the Riverside as Grzegorz Rasiak heads a corner against the Boro crossbar.
Norwich, who are losing at home to WBA, are not safe from the drop
Celtic have taken the lead against Aberdeen
Off the bar from Bent.
Cardif are now losing
Oh, Bent should have stuck that away, but he snatched at it and it rocketed off the bar.
Doncaster have tied it up
Jenas stinks!!!
Yeovil are two up against the Swans
Oh Dear
Bolton have taken the lead at Boro
How can Boro play so well against us and then do this.
Agreed, JJ should never get in the England squad. I'd rather have Huddlestone in there as long as you can keep him away from the kebabs.
More bad news for Fulham. They're doomed.
Still 0-0 at the Den, with Millwall leading in shots 11-5, for what it's worth. Time for Macca to make a change - perhaps Kandol?
Derby have tied it up at Upton Park
Blimey. A rare goal for Derby and Tyrone Mears has levelled at Upton Park against West Ham. 1-1.
1626: As things stand, Birmingham are in the Premier League's relgation zone.
With the second city derby to come
Watch WH play a blinder against us!!!
Fulham are done
They've fallen two behind
Bournemouth has extended their lead at Walsall
Leeds, it's your time
Forest have taken the lead
Darren Bent - the Premiership's most expensive sub!
YES, LEEDS HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD
Bournemouth are scrapping for their Division 1 lives!
I wouldn't mind seeing Brum go down.
Not instead of Bolton
Peter Crouch has just killed off Fulham, netting from Pennant's cross to make it 2-0 at the Cottage.
Norwich have fallen further behind to the league leaders
Hull are choking after making second.
They are two down to the Blades
Ideally, I'd like Derby, Bolton and Brum. Or even Reading.
WHAT, NO COMMENT ABOUT LEEDS WINNING!!
Crouchie, apparently, is having his nachos!
Wolves have taken the lead against Ipswich.
That hurts the Blues chances
Crikey, I hadn't noticed with all the other action going on - well done, David Prutton!
That should make us safe for the playoffs.
Of course, we really should be a one point behind Swansea.
About time
Norwich have a goal back
Leicester have taken the lead at Barnsley
West Ham have gone ahead again
I am now officially nervous
Why? Just because it's close to kick-off time? Give yerself a break!
Leeds score a second at the same time Brighton are pegged back
A GREAT COUPLE MINUTES FOR LEEDS
We're going up! We're going up! Eee-ay-adio - we're going up!
Palace have scored two quick ones against Watford.
I DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM UP AGAIN!! With Warnock to boot
Coventry have scored a FOURTH!!
Swanse are now only 2-1 down
If the scores stay the same, all the playoff teams have been secured in League 1
FINGERS CROSSED
Palace are the classic yo-yo club. We could get another one with WBA too. I'd rather see Stoke.
I would think Doncaster would be the best team to play. Keep away from Forest and Southend
Yes, indeed, but I repeat, we should be on 85 points!
I wanted to see Hull go up
Well, our record is good against Doncaster this season.
Of course, Brighton could make up 26 goals in their last two games
That was a good one for the blooper reels, a Wigan player falling over a bit of trash on the field.
That's it.
Wigan should be safe
NOW FOR THE BIG ONE!!
Why is Gus Poyet smiling so much? He's just got a draw at Wigan!
I'm off to the shower before the ManYoo fest. I assume that you'll be sticking around for the squeaky bum affair, right?
A late winner for Southend at Carlisle surely - Lee Barnard has pounced in the last minute. 2-1. That result means Swansea will be champions today (Leeds appeals permitting).
I'll be here
Ipswich score a late equalizer
WHAT A HALF TIME TEAM TALK FROM CHRIS COLEMAN
Half time
Scunthorpe 1 Coventry 0
Full Time
Scunthorpe 1 Coventry 5
Leeds have won and surely are in the playoffs
West Ham and Liverpool get wins
United's line up
Kuszczak
Brown
Rio
Vidic
Evra
Ronaldo
Carrick
Scholes
Giggs
Tevez
Rooney
Bench
Park, Nani, O'Shea
Pique Foster
Oh no, Brighton have scored a late winner. They are still in with a shot of catching Leeds
Bugger, Bolton have won!
Walsall lose
Brighton have won
Nice control and finish Adebayor
1709: "Owen Hargreaves, Anderson and Edwin van der Sar have injuries, that's why they're not playing. But we were always going to play Carlos Tevez."
Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson
Interesting comments from Fergie.
You should never have taken a shower. It was your fault that Brighton won!
Looks like FSC are going to be late again
We're off
I want to see a Scholes goal today
I'm actually supporting United for once today - I just don't want Chelski to be rewarded for their negative football this season.
United have had plenty of possession but have created nothing
Go on, Carlito - he's my favorite United player, as you know.
That's big of you
I have been supporting your United all season
Was that a pen?
He did touch the ball!!
Very risky
Useless clearance by Scholes by the way
Tomasz Kuszczak, but the Polish keeper gets a slight touch to the ball, good decision.
Why didn't Giggs shoot!!
Come on Ron, get going
AHHH, how did Tevez miss that!!!
Carlito should've done better. Should be one-nil!
I hope this doesn't continue
Yes, you've been gracious about the Leeds situation this season, but then we are about 65 positions below you lot. Not much threat, eh?
True but it has been genuine.
we need a goal.
COME ON
Agreed.
It's only been fifteen minutes - be patient!
1733: For those of you who think this is a dead cert, United have won just one of their last seven league games at Ewood Park.
Not a good start by United
That's a bit pessimistic, isn't it?
Would a draw be enough for you today?
I just don't like all the talk about the Championship being over.
It never has been
It would be exciting to have something at stake in that match at Stamford Bridge, eh? Oh come on, think of the neutrals!
Who's your game in hand against?
It would be okay. That would mean that if United lose to Chelsea, they could still win their last two and be Champs.
If they lose, then it would be in Chelsea's hands
Oh, bloody hell! Roque Santa Cruz has scored! Sorry, mate.
BUGGER!!!!
I knew it!
This is the game in hand
Useless defending
Vidic and Rio for once are sloppy and it's fallen to Santa Cruz who thinks it's Christmas all over again.
get it over RYAN!!
Right. So what have you got left apart from the game at the Bridge?
West Ham at home
Wigan away
So that's six points there. I reckon that if you get a point here and a point at the Bridge you're home and dry.
Stoke is beating Bristol City
What's your schedule for the CL matches this week? Are you around Tuesday and Wednesday? I'll be watching the Tuesday match later after my class but I'll be around Wednesday.
