An Interesting Day of Footer
Saturday has rolled around again and I'm here in LOB central manning the blog controls and looking forward to a full schedule of games today, including several intriguing looking Premiership fixtures as well as my beloved LUFC at home to Bristol Rovers. Join me for all the action throughout the morning.

Hey Bob,
I will be here for the first half of all the 3 o'clock kick offs. I am then off to see Tom's game. They won 2-1 yesterday. I will be back for the Gooners vs Toon match.
ooh, King Eric on FSC
Eric Daniel Pierre Cantona!!!
Welcome, Dave. I'll be happy for the pleasure of your company this morning. You didn't respond specifically to my idea of coming to visit two weekends from now. What do you think? Talk it over with the family, check your calendars and let me know.
I did quite a bit better with the predictions last weekend, picking up a solid 45 points. I'm back in the black and here are my picks for this weekend:
Bolton 2 WBA 0
Everton 1 Pompey 0
Hull 2 Wigan 1
Boro 3 Stoke 1
West Ham 1 Blackburn 2
Arsenal 2 Newcastle 0
Chelski 3 Spurs 0
Sunderland 1 Citeh 1
Villa 2 Liverpool 2
It's interesting that my big losing prediction two weeks ago was United's opening draw and my big winner last week was United's win against Pompey on Monday, which netted me 30 pts.
Why does Incey look so sad on the bench? Did he get a rough reception from the Hammers crowd?
And we're off on another Saturday of the beautiful game!
FSC has got two teams who are under pressure and need wins - West Ham and Blackburn.
Lots of boos for the Guvnor as he steps onto the touchline.
YESSSS! Leeds are already one-up inside five minutes. It's Beckford with a shot and it's gone in off a Bristol Rovers defender for an own goal.
1-0 Leeds!
We aim to please!!
When did you mention about a weekend?
I never saw it.
Any weekend is good. The weekend you are talking about is Sept 12, 13 and 14 depending what day you plan on coming.
That weekend is fine. I think Tom has a game on Friday so Saturday is free. As for Sunday, Kathy and I have a game at 9:30. Your welcome to come or stay at home for the Spurs Villa match. We would have to work on how to see the Liverpool United game early on Saturday if you are here
Leicester have also taken an early lead away to Cheltenham. They're joint top of Division 1 now. We've catapulted into the playoff spots now on seven points.
Sounds peachy, mate! I mentioned it at half time of yesterday's match but you were clearly busy drowning your sorrows. What if I drive in around dinner time on the Friday night, the 12th?
Hull 0 Wigan 1. Kevin Kilbane's corner comes off Sam Ricketts and diverts into the back of the net. Great start for Steve Bruce's men.
The Hammers take the lead!!
Sir Trev should be happy
ooh Leeds have taken the lead already.
Why didn't you tell me? An og after 5 minutes
GOAL! Kevin Davenport nods in West Ham's first from a corner. Another 'mare from Paul Robinson. He was in no man's land there after flapping at an early cross. Blackburn fans must be wondering what ever happened to Brad Friedel.
Wigan have taken the lead at the KC Stadium
Wakey wakey, mate. The comment's at 10:07 a.m.
You clearly haven't had your morning cup o' joe yet. Late night?
You did mention the Leeds score. I missed it.
Any time on Friday is fine. As I said, Tom has a game on Friday after school. Shame you'll miss it
Goals at Everton and Hull... Pompey take the lead at Goodison and Wigan are two up on Hull
Northhampton have shoved us ungraciously out of the promotion spots with a goal against Tranmere.
Defoe for Pompey
Everton 0 Portsmouth 1. Peter Crouch nods the ball on for Jermaine Defoe who turns and shoots past Tim Howard. Could be a first win of the season for Pompey.
Wolves are up against Forest
A McCain-like pick their Bob . . . West Ham to LOSE to Blackburn? . . . Where are you making your picks from? The Nutter Center?
As usual, my predictions are hopeless. All three games are going in the wrong direction so far.
Well, Pompey have played Chelsea and United!!
Did you see the draw for the League Cup.
United play at OT vs Boro
Leeds play Hartlepool at ER
Ashton scores another one.
Was he offside?
Ashton with West Ham's second there! Was he offside?
Might be an O.G. off Samba?
It wasn't an Ashton goal... it was on OG
Boy, we type almost the exact same thing!!
YESSS!!!!! Serves you right, Bob. Blackburn are now putting them in like you used to . . .
West Ham got plowed 3-0 last Sunday. They were absolutely hopeless! Blackburn are a much better side than they are. And here come Blackburn roaring back for me. Roberts with one.
West Ham 2 Blackburn 1
Reading are beating Palace
QPR up against Bristol City
Rovers have made a reply...nice turn
Doh! . . . Davenport was fortunate not to tackle Roberts to the ground and earn a red card . . . to 2-1 . . . now if only that score can hold up I'll win like 1,000 points in our league.
Hey Sir Trev... typical West Ham. Make a good start and then let the other team back in it!!
Morning, Trev! What's your feeling about Sarah Palin?
Walsall have taken a lead against Southend and we've dropped another slot.
Derbyshire to replace Santa here.
Oh dear, that should have been Blackburn's second there. Derbyshire's first touch.
West Ham are currently in third place. Champions League - you're 'aving a laugh!
The Palin pick was very cynical. No one can reasonably find her qualified to be Veep, but the Dems are making a mistake by making the point. A better tact would be to say obviously McCain's attacks against Obama on the "experience" issue were nonsense -- so let's now talk about the issues. McCain is on record as saying the job of VEEP is to attend funerals and to daily ask about the health of the President. The Dems have to constantly throw that in his face; it makes the Palin pcik that much more of a strategic move only.
Bugger! Bristol Rovers are back on level terms with us and we've dropped back into mid-table.
Should be 2 to 2 . . . I like was I'm seeing from Faubert. How much longer before ManYoo buy him?
I reckon you're right Trev. And it's a very marginal strategy for the GOP. I can't really see many Hillary voters plumping for McCain on the basis of picking a very right-wing woman for his ticket.
Would you be booing Paul Ince if you were at Upton Park today, Trev?
Sorry about Bristol Rovers getting back on level terms.
Both of you taking on B. Rovers.
COME ON... DO THE DOUBLE
Bob, your thoughts on Palin, S?
Dave, your thoughts on Palin, M?
Another goal at Elland Road...Leeds are now losing!!!
Unless you start and finish with West Ham like Trever Brooking . . . you all get booed in my book.
The one thing that gets me on Palin is that she is OUR age!!! I'm not old enough to be President!!!
I have to admit I'd only heard of her by name as Alaska's governor before yesterday morning. I did some quick research on her and found that she's a down the line doctrinaire on all the red meat Republican issues, with lots of pictures of her on the oil pipelines, wearing fur, holding big guns and so on. She's also a Creationism freak, so that's a non-starter for me straight away.
The officials are having a dreadful match here.
Bugger bugger! That's what I get for speaking ill of others. I will now revert back to my usual Buddhist serenity in order to guide my LUFC boys back to the path of enlightenment...and goals.
What a hopeless corner!!
It was nice chatting with you lads. . . I've got to run . . . Lauri is away at a wedding this weekend and I'm sailing the ship solo. . .
Boro have taken the lead against Stoke
I am off too to Tom's match.
I will be back for most of the late match.
Keep the home fires burning and best of luck Elland Road.
Cheers, Trev! Best of luck sailing solo today.
Dave, I'm not working on that Friday, so I can drive in whenever you like. Name the time and I'm there.
I'll keep the fires burning and will look for you back here for the Arsenal match.
Tom's game is at 4 o'clock on Friday.
I am sure he would love to have you watch.
I am off.
I'll be back soon
Everton 0 Portsmouth 2. Good move and good finish by Glenn Johnson and Pompey are well on their way to an impressive away victory.
Half time in the Premier League - West Ham 2 Blackburn 1, Everton 0 Portsmouth 2, Boro 1 Stoke 0, Bolton 0 West Brom 0, Hull 0 Wigan 2.
And we're off for the second half at Upton Park, keeping an eye on the scores from across England.
Well, would you believe. A free kick is taken by Jason Roberts and Mike Reid has given a penalty for a handball in the wall.
Roberts takes...and Rob Green saves! England's #1?
Another penalty save in the Prem! This time it's David James saving from Yakubu at Goodison Park. Pompey still lead there 2-0.
Jason Roberts could be off here. His arms were flailing and he struck the defender. He's already been yellow carded but Mike Riley has just given him a bollocking.
More frustration for the Elland Road faithful. We're 2-1 down and still haven't had a shot on target all day long.
Hull 0 Wigan 3. It's surely game over at the KC Stadium, Amr Zaki's smart finish surely sealing the points.
Three penalty misses now in the Premiership today. Stuart Downing is the lastest to miss his spotkick. Boro still leading 1-0.
Another great chance for Blackburn goes begging. Great cross from Derbyshire for Emerton at the back post and Rob Green saves brilliantly with his feet.
Hull 0 Wigan 4. Emile Heskey gets on the end of a long punt forward and makes no mistake with the finish. A hammering for Hull.
Middlesbrough 1 Stoke 1. Liam Lawrence's hopeful cross comes off Justin Hoyte and into the back of the net but Dave Kitson clearly fouled the defender and the goal should not be allowed to stand.
YESSSS! It's 2-2 Leeds and Bristol Rovers and it's that man Beckford again for us. Now let's snatch that late win, lads! Come on you Whites!
Everton 0 Portsmouth 3. It's a hammering for Everton too as Defoe's wonderful chip comes back off the bar and Peter Crouch makes no mistake.
The shots are pouring in at Elland Road. Dave's not here to say it so I'll say it - It's Leeds Time!
Come on!
Hull 0 Wigan 5. Brilliant finish by Amr Zaki and it's an embarrassing afternoon for Hull and Phil Brown.
GOAL! Cracking finish from Craig Bellamy and it's 3-1 West Ham.
Middlesbrough 2 Stoke 1. Tuncay finishes superby well as he beats the offside trap and it looks like late heartbreak for Stoke.
It's finished 2-2 at Elland Road and it's two more dropped points for us.
Carlton Cole makes it 4-1 West Ham and Incey looks miserable on the touchline.
Full time in the Premier League - West Ham 2 Blackburn 1, Middlesbrough 2 Stoke 1, Hull 0 Wigan 5, Everton 0 Portsmouth 3, Bolton 0 West Brom 0.
Hey, there, Bob, I got home from the grocery store ($60 for a box of cereal and a bag of carrot), just in time to see stoppage time. Nice. I was so close to picking the Hammers to win 4 to 1. Next time I go with my first instinct.
Welcome back, Trev. I'm just settling in to watch the Arse. Great result for you lot this morning!
Van Persie could easily have had a penalty there after a sumptuous ball from Cesc. And then Gallas sticks one over the bar from close range. Bright start from the home side.
Lovely raking shot from Toure well turned around by Shay Given.
It's all Arsenal pressure so far, with Newcastle merely bunkering in and trying to weather the storm.
Don Fabio's in the stands. Let's hope that he's taking a serious look at Michael Owen.
Penalty! A bit harsh. The ball was crossed in and Nzogbia's arm was caught stretched out.
RVP to take...and he sticks it in the bottom right corner. Good finish!
Arsenal 1 Newcastle 0
Hey I am here, I just looked back at the pen. Nicely put away.
Tom's team lost 2-0. He played well.
Little Britain star in the crowd
Ipswich are one up at Watford
RVP chance. I didn't see much of a foul there
It's Fab instead and straight into the wall
Welcome back, Dave. Shame about Thomas's result. Did you hear that HBO is doing a Little Britain America show?
Another chance for the Arse
RVP this time...great save by Given
Free kick chance for RVP here...
Good strike and Given saves well. He was rubbish with these last weekend but that was a great effort.
So just to wrap up our conversation from earlier, I can easily drive up to you and be there by four. Should I meet up at your house or at Thomas's game? Directions for that?
I say get here at the house and we'll go to the game.
What's the name going to be of HBO LB?
Right you are. Be at your house by 3? 3:30?
I think the HBO show will be called "Little Britain America" or "Little Britain USA"
Oh, Owen should have had that one.
Wee Mickey should have scored!
Adebayor misses after a great move
Little Britain USA it is - check this out: http://www.hbo.com/events/littlebritainusa/
Two nil to the Arse. Another great move
GOAL! Superb movement from the Arse and it's RVP's second.
That'll do me. I'd pick up 30 points on this match if it stays this way.
It won't
Close by the Toon.
Nice save
Super free kick and Owen gets on the end of it but super save from Almunia - the next England #1?
Half time at the Emirates.
The Arse look a darn sight better than last week!
Half-time: 2-0 Arse.
Thanks for the confidence in my predictions, mate!
Is Owen going to be in the Don's squad?
We're off
I'd have Owen in the squad, no doubt.
Predictably Arsenal have taken the foot on the pedal in the second half and are letting Newcastle have their fair share of chances, the latest a Nicky Butt header off the bar.
Newcastle getting some chances.
Off the bar
nice goal!!!
Bang goes your prediction... told ya
GOAL! Another training pitch move with Nasri at the center of it and Denilson on the end.
Arsenal 3-0
I'll at least ten points from this match.
Cor! That was nearly RVP's hat-trick!
RVP never stays on the pitch long enough to score a hat-trick! He's limping off again. Arsenal's version of Darren Anderton.
Here comes Theo!
This Vela bloke certainly is direct. He's having a go at goal every touch he makes.
And Toure has another header on goal saved by Given. If not for Given, it would be four or five-nil.
Why isn't Silvestre playing? Was the Patrick Viera there with him? Isn't he stil at Juve?
Watford have taken the lead against Town
This result would put the Arse up to second
Why should Arsene play a ManYoo scrub?
They bought one of our rejects!!!
The first player since Brian Kidd to go to the Arse from United
Pavlyuchenko has signed for Spurs.
Come home Berba... the new Cantona
Watford have beaten Ipswich
Oh, how did Theo miss that one?
Theo you stink!!!
Arsenal are ripping Newcastle apart!!
Just how bad were United on the opening day!!
I only think Silvestre gets a game if there are injuries or in the 3rd Round of the Carling.
Mr. GBH Joey Barton is coming on for Newcastle.
Joey "Porridge" Barton is coming on.
Is he wearing his ankle bracelet.
And straight in with the nastiness.
Bit of afters there from Nasri as well. Good on him.
He is a major idiot!!! Not on the field for two seconds and he is already acting like a con
I don't think he should be allowed on the field
Nuts, whole hazelnuts, Cadbury makes it and they cover it with chocolate. La la la
That's it.
Very impressive Steve!
I can't watch my lot for a fortnight!
Cheers Bob
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Talk tomorrow
Full-time: Arsenal 3 Newcastle 0
Comprehensive victory there. Can Chelski match them tomorrow. I hope so - I've got them at 3-0.
Good chatting with you, mate. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you two weeks from now.
