Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The Start of A Long and Winding Road

So, Fabio Capello has announced his first REAL squad. There are some surprises!
With no Gerrard, Hargreaves or Carrick, the Don has pick Jimmy Bullard in the midfield
There is no space for Michael Owen, Crouch or Shaun Wright Phillips. Roon, Defoe, Heskey and Walcott! I don't get it. Of course, bloody Jeramine Jenas is in the squad again!!
Here is the squad in Full

England squad to play Andorra and Croatia:
Robinson (Blackburn), James (Portsmouth), Green (West Ham); Lescott (Everton), Bridge (Chelsea), A Cole (Chelsea), Terry (Chelsea), Brown (Manchester United), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Johnson (Portsmouth), Upson (West Ham); Barry (Aston Villa), J Cole (Chelsea), Lampard (Chelsea), Bullard (Fulham), Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Downing (Middlesbrough), Bentley (Tottenham), Jenas (Tottenham); Walcott (Arsenal), Rooney (Manchester United), Defoe (Portsmouth), Heskey (Wigan).

Your thoughts gentlemen?

I don't get it either, mate. This is a baffling set of choices. If you had to think of one club that represents the future generation English footballers, you'd have to say Villa. And yet the only Villa selection here is Gareth Barry, who has one foot out of the club. No room for Gabby Agbonlahor, Ashley Young, Dean Ashton and many others.

This is a journeyman squad, loaded with trundlers with little or no quality. Yes, you could probably cobble together a starting eleven that will win easily against Andorra next Saturday and get a draw in Zagreb on Wednesday week, but the problems have not been addressed here.

It will fuel the thoughts of the naysayers who say that there aren't any young English players of any quality, something that is patently untrue.

Jenas? I have to assume that Jermaine has a stack of incriminating photos in a file marked "England managers."

Honestly, Don Fabio is looking more and more like SGE with picks like this. If he's going with second rate and classless, surely he's overlooked Joey Barton here.

Is he worried that Andorra is just going to kick seven shades out of us?
