Election Night Special!
Now, for the main event of the evening. Will it be Obama or McCain? Join me to find out....
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

This just in from Dicksville Notch, NH. And Obama has swept it, gaining 32 votes to 16. Dicksville has gone gaga for Barack.
There's every indication that the electoral system is broken in this country. Tremendously long lines, broken machines, fraud.
Only a big win for Obama will put a smile on this picture.
I'm going with a fairly conservative set of predictions tonight:
Obama 311
McCain 227
In the Senate: Dems 58 GOP 42
In the House: Dems gain 20 seats.
Half an hour from poll closing on the East Coast. Good poll numbers on the issues. 62% of exit polls show that the Economy was the biggest issue.
With a scant 25K voters counted, it's Obama 51-47.
Up to 60K counted - Obama 52-46.
Wow! It sounds like Elizabeth Dole is already conceding defeat in her NC Senate race. Good news!
It's 7 p.m. and the first two states are in:
Kentucky is called for McCain and Vermont for Obama. No surprises there. Indiana is categorized as "too close to call."
Obama 3
McCain 8
It's a very good sign that Indiana is too close to call. It hasn't voted Dem in yonks. Chris Matthews is right that it probably means that even if Barack loses Indiana, he'll likely win Ohio.
The Dems pick up their first Senate seat - Mark Warner in Virginia.
Lindsay Graham unfortunately has won another six years in SC.
Too close to call for Mitch McConnell in Kentucky. More good news.
Wow! Daily Kos are calling Virginia for Obama. That would be huge but I'll wait for one of the networks to call it until I get too excited.
I don't know where Kos is getting his numbers - MSNBC is still saying that it's "too early to call" with only 1% reporting in Virginia.
Indiana is tight as a tick:
With 7% reporting:
Obama 106,082 49%
McCain 102,648 50%
The 8 o'clock hour has come and a lot of states have fallen into place. The biggie is that Pennsylvania, where McCain and Palin were campaigning non-stop in the past month has gone for Obama. There's no way back for Johnny Mac after that one.
Predictably the Northeastern states have gone blue again, while South Carolina, Oklahoma and Tennessee have gone for McCain.
Still up in the air - Indiana, Florida, Ohio, Missouri.
I'm off to a poll-watching party. I'll catch up with you silent sams later.
That's it! Ohio goes to Obama at 9:15 pm . . . Party time!!!!!!!!
Well in Ohio.
Fantastic!!!!
An unbelievable night. Well done, you Virginia lads. I'm really excited for all my former students in Florida who put Obama over the top down there in the Sunshine State. It's a much bigger win than I could have ever predicted. I thought 310 was a good bet. Obama's now at 338 and counting. He may still pull out Indiana, Missouri and (gasp!) North Carolina for a truly massive win.
It's been a long time but I'm breathing more easy tonight than I have in a long time. Hope the rest of you are too. And for the McCain fans on the blog, I hope the bitter taste of defeat tonight passes quickly. You always have 2012, eh?
