Here are my predictions for this weekend:
Blackburn 0 Newcastle 1
Bolton 0 United 2
Chelski 2 Stoke 0
Citeh 1 Wigan 1
Sunderland 1 Villa 2
WBA 0 Boro 1
Hull 1 Arsenal 2
West Ham 2 Fulham 0
Spurs 2 Pompey 0
Liverpool 1 Everton 1
It's not the "greatest show on earth" but Leeds travel to Brighton. The Gulls are currently right in the relegation mix and facing administration. Still, given our recent form, I'm holding my breath for a big win. We'll see.
Chelski vs. Stoke is starting on the box. I'm also trying to pull up a link for the Bolton vs. United match online.
An early long throw from Rory Delap causes real panic in the Blues defense. Ridiculous.
New striker Lee Trundle makes his first start for Leeds. Still no Jermaine Beckford.
Chris Brunt's powerful effort is deflected past Ross Turnbull by Tony McMahon to give West Brom a 1-0 lead against Middlesbrough.
The United link is working now. Fletcher nearly played Berbatov in there.
Div. 1 relegation favorites Hereford have jumped to a 2-0 lead over Oldham, which theoretically helps Leeds out. Peterboro unfortunately continue to win.
Dangerous free kick opportunity for Chelski right in the D.
Bollocks takes and it's a tame effort straight at the keeper. He looks as if he couldn't care less these days.
Nice interplay between Tevez and Berbatov there but the Bulgarian knocked it too high over the bar. Looks as if Fergie is going with all the big guns today. And why not?
Danny Collins' header finds the back of the net to give Sunderland the lead against Aston Villa. That's a turn up for the books!
Amdy Faye picks up the first of what will surely be a bag full of yellow cards today for Stoke.
No threat from Bolton so far against Man United. The Premier League champions are looking the better side at the Reebok Stadium.
Scunthorpe and MK Dons both leading now. Not good.
Makukulu bowls Vidic over for no apparent reason and picks up a needless yellow for Bolton.
Man City have an appeal for a penalty turned down as Robinho's cross from right strikes Mario Melchiot on the arm.
A fan has run onto the pitch at the Reebok and it's taken the stewards ages to get him off.
Patrice Muamba produces the first Bolton chance there with VDS tipping over well.
Solomon Kalou goes floppy in the Stoke box looking for a penalty but the referee is less than impressed.
Still 0-0 at Stamford Bridge and the Reebok as well as down in Brighton. Precious few real chances too.
Still only those two goals in the Prem at West Brom and Sunderland. A bit quiet there and here on the blog this morning.
The United crowd are starting to get anxious and are calling for Rooney's entrance.
New Stoke signing James Beattie hasn't had a sniff yet. He's up front alone and hasn't had any service to speak of.
Free kick opportunity for Ronaldo now...
He hits it sweetly but Jaskelainen is equal to it, poking it behind for a corner.
Coming up on half time now.
Sorenson did well to save a sharp hit from Lampard.
Right before half time we have another Delap throw, which is cleared out easily this time.
I am home from a basketball game.
I have the ATDE link and Lou Macari doesn't sound very impressed.
United playing the same again!
Half time at the Reebok - 0-0.
Only two goals in the prem
Sunderland are beating Villa and Albion are beating Boro
I see Leeds are scoreless too.
Has everyone forgotten how to score?
Wow, just heard that J Cole has knee ligament problems. Out for the season!
I was reading one of your comments saying the crowd want Rooney's entrance. Well, they have a long wait. He is out for three weeks with a hammy
Teams are out and the second half has started at the Reebok
No changes for the teams
This is time for Tevez to earn his dosh
Berba too
United have all the possession to start the half but nothing created
They are off at the Bridge too
United not creating anything. Everyone is laying back for Bolton
Second halfs getting started...
Morning, Dave! How are you, mate?
You were saying James Beattie isn't doing anything.
He must like red and white stripes.
I know he has played for Sotton, Sheff Utd and now Stoke. Has he played for Sunderland?
Carrick makes a nice run. Should have shot
About the only chances for Chelski so far have been long efforts from Lamps.
Forest are two up to Plymouth
Shef Utd take the lead at Watford.
Corner to United
USELESS
Don't think that he ever played for Sunderland but well spotted. He also has played for Everton if memory serves.
Oh, what a sitter missed by Ballack. He was wide open, great ball in from Malouda and he was a mile wide with that header.
Bollocks should have put that header away
Money bags have taken the lead against Wigan
Only three shots off target for both Brighton and Leeds. Not a lot to keep the crowd warm down there on the south coast so far.
Struggling Norwich take the lead against Barnsley
Pablo Zabaleta sends a powerful half-volley into the bottom left hand corner of the Wigan goal to give Man City the lead at Eastlands.
oooh, Bolton have a header hit the top of the net.
COME ON UNITED!!
And straight after the goal Richard Dunne has been sent off for kicking out at a player. Citeh down to ten men!
ooh, Fletch almost in at the back post
Richard Dunne has been sent off for Citeh for violent conduct
Cold enough for you in Scotia, Dave?
Goal at the Hawthorns.
Albion go two up
I'm gonna hit TJ Max later on and buy meself some furry slippers.
Speculative effort there from Beattie.
Ron to take a free kick, way out on the left
COME ON RON.... saved by the keep and cleared
OH MY GOD!!
Stoke have taken the lead!1
Excellent! Rory Delap has opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge for Stoke!
What was up with the Chelsea defending
Rovers have scored against the Toon
That goal will really put the cat amongst the pigeons at Chelski. They were already licking their wounds from last weekend. Now this! Excellent forward play from Beattie it has to be said. He took a high ball down on his chest and fed Delap who just dinked it over Cech. Probably the best goal that Stoke have scored all season.
Ron tries to pass it for the second time in 30 secs and it goes awry
Villa have tied it up
I have no idea what Oldham are playing at today. They're 5-0 down to relegation no-hopers Hereford.
United are putting some pressure on now
25 minutes to go
You didn't answer my earlier question, Dave.
Is it cold enough for you, today?
Scholes and Giggs are warming up
Rovers are two up
YESSSSSS!!!!
New boy Lee Trundle has scored his first goal for Leeds!
Scholes and Giggs on for Fletch and Anderson
Lamps hits one wide
Are you ignoring me, mate?
Boro down to ten men
oooh, I missed the Leeds goal
Well done
It's BLOODY FREEZING!!!
The United old boys brigade are coming on - Scholsey and Giggs.
20 minutes to go.... COME ON!
No kidding. I just checked the temp on my laptop dashboard. 2F!
Are you watching United?
A lot of red cards today.
More bad news for Middlesbrough. Didier Digard has been sent-off against West Brom. Not great news for Gareth Southgate as his side trail 2-0.
Yeah, I'm watching both Chelski and United.
Corner for United... come on Viddy
I'm on a Justin.TV link. You?
Albion are three up.
I am on the ATDEH website. Crystal Clear
Tev is trying too hard
Speaking of watching on-line, I came across a site last night where you can watch new movies online for free. I was watching the new Kate and Leonardo movie "Revolutionary Road," which is still in theaters! It's amazing.
http://www.watch-movies.net/
Another United corner.. come on!!!!
oooh, Scholes hit that clearly!!
15 to go... we can't drop points today
United with a trademark corner straight to Scholes for a volley but it's blocked by a resolute Bolton defense. You know exactly what Gary Megson's going to do but breaking them down is harder said than done. They've parked three buses today.
Ashley Young off for Villa. Serious foul play
I'll take ANOTHER one niller
Even better news - both Scunthorpe and the Dons have been pegged back to 2-2. Love to see them drop points today, especially if we can hang in for a win.
Thank you VDS
Really!? Ashley Young? That's odd. So many red cards today in the Prem.
10 to go
About the same time they gave it up to Arsenal
Free kick chance for United. Too close for Ron
And now Carlisle have taken the lead against the Dons. Crazy scores in Div. 1 today.
saved
COME ON, PLEASE!!!!!!
This is about the same time we scored against Stoke too.... COME ON
Ronaldo not too impressive with the free kicks today. Jaski seems to have his number.
Another red card!!!!
Nicky Butt is dismissed for a second yellow card as Newcastle's day gets worse. Blackburn lead 2-0.
Gareth Barry has fired home a penalty that Gabby Ag had one. Villa now lead.
Can Manchester United score.. they always score
Goal at the SoL, Vill taek the lead with a Barry pen
Nicky Butt is off too
By my count, that's four off in six games in the Prem so far today. Crazy!
5 to go, that was close by Bolton. Offside though
Some bloke named Miroslav Stoch is coming on for Mikel for Chelski. Big Phil rolling the dice one more time for the Blues.
United are playing horrible
I wonder how many points Stoke and Hull have nicked off the top four? I'll expect some serious anoraking from you on that one, Dave.
Delph with Leeds' second
WELL DONE
Rovers are three up
I'll work on it after United score
YESSSS!!!!! 2-0 Leeds! Fab Fab Fab!
Ron TOE POKEES!!!
Come on... under two to go
That'll take us up to ninth. It would be lovely if Stockport or Huddersfield conceded on late on. They're both 1-0 up.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TEVEZ TO BERBA!!!!!!!!
LOVE YA!
GREAT GOAL
Great cross and finish!!!!!!!
My mistake. Stockport are now 3-1 up and 'Uddersfield are 2-0 up. No chance then.
Three added minutes... please go quickly
Excellent goal there for United. You knew it would happen. That Stoke result against Chelski is looking even better now. Their season is just crashing right now.
Chelsea have scored... bugger
Spoke too soon. Belletti with the equalizer. 1-1 at the death.
They're going to win it
I love you too, mate...oh, you meant Tevez and Berbatov. Sorry.
Now a free kick for Chelski. Can they steal it?
under a minute to go and it will be another clean sheet. TEN in a row. Last goal conceded was the Arsenal scoring in November
IT'S OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chelsea have a free kick chance
Rovers beat Newcastle 3-0
Belletti straight into the wall. Four minutes of stoppage to come at the Bridge.
How much added time at the Birdge?
You answered my question before I asked
minute to go
Stoch comes close there. Almost supersub time. Last chance for the Blues now. Lamps to take. It goes straight through the box. Faye wastes some time. It's just about over now.
I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!!
Unbelievable! Lamps! What a finish!
You called it, mate.
Ipswich have scored four at Palace
Lamps was about the only person who looked like scoring today. The others couldn't score for toffee.
I can't believe that Bollocks is claiming it, even if it grazed his bum on the way through.
Everything is final now
Wins for Rovers, United, Chelsea, Citeh, Villa and Albion
Derby lose at home to QPR, we can't lose to them on Tuesday, can we?
That goal keeps Chelski in third, I believe. Villa in fourth. So three of the top four have won already this weekend. Puts some pressure on Liverpool and Arsenal for sure.
Congrats for your lot
Meanwhile Leeds have won a much needed win at Brighton. We're in ninth on 39 points now.
So I'm on forty points for today so far. Not bad.
Cheers, mate! Are you sticking around for the Arse?
I'm off to take a shower.
I'll be here
1705: "A good day has turned into a dreadful one."
Dave, a despondent Liverpool fan, via text on 81111
Spurs are rock bottom
Hull have United loanee Manucho on the bench
The Arse team is
Almunia
Sagna
Toure
Djouou
Clichy
Eboue
Diaby
Denilson
Nasri
Adebayor
RVP
I'm back and spanking clean! Lunch time!
Thanks for that movie link. I will give it a look. I have one like that too
That was nasty challenge by Clicchy
No booking?
Predictable start for Hull. They'll be knocking some long, high diagonals in to test out the Arse back line.
Definitely check out that movie link. I was astonished. I was checking out all the Oscar hopefuls to see if the links would work and sure enough, they all came through bright and clear for me - Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, The Wrestler, Rev Road, Milk, the lot.
Cousin's got some power but very little finesse.
Wow, I will take a look at that site
Giovanni into the wall
Do you think RVP and Ade get along?
On the United link, the preview of this match was saying that Adebayor has his head down or doesn't move because he knows the ball is not going to come to him
Not at all. They've always looked a bit out of sorts. And of course Ade and Bendtner have nearly come to blows. I'm surprised the big Togolese is still at Ashton Gate. Surely they've got the £18 needed to secure Arshavin's transfer. He'd be brilliant at the Arse.
Myhill fingertipped it onto the bar from RVP's free kick - wow!
Stato Man at your service
Hull
vs Chelsea L 0-3 0 pts
vs Liverpool D 2-2 1 pt
vs United L 3-4 0 pts
vs Arsenal W 2-1 3 pts
vs Villa L 0-1 0 pts
Total points 4 points
Stoke
vs Cheslea L and L 0 0pts
vs Costa D and D 2 points
vs Arsenal W 3 points
vs United L and L 0 points
5 points
As I am typing
RVP hits the post and Adebayor puts one in
One nil to the Arse
I speak too soon again. Adebayor with a great header for Arsenal's first. And I'm on my way to another thirty points now. Just need one more for the Arse.
Wow - cheers mate. So it's not as significant a factor as I'd thought. It had seemed like those two were nicking a lot of points off the top dogs. Maybe it's Villa then?
Not sure that Hull have the means to come back.
I agree, but they were losing in the first game and didn't look in it
Coming up on half time now...
Agreed, but it just seems as if their confidence has been burst by their recent poor form. They're not in any real danger; they'll only need another 10 or 12 points in the season and they could pick that up easily against worse teams.
Wow - I didn't realize that United had gone top with that win today. Even if Liverpool only get a draw from the Merseyside derby tomorrow - a likely result - you'll still be top...with a game in hand! Very strong position for Fergie.
Half time
I am watching MUTV on the computer as well
off to heat up some left over Chinese!
YOU DIDN'T KNOW WE ARE TOP!!!
LOVELY JUBBLY
Ten straight clean sheets to tie Chelski's record.
Next up WBA
United play WBA away, Everton home, West Ham away, the game in hand Fulham at home, Blackburn home and then Pompey at home to finish up February.
We could do with winning all of them
Second half underway
That looked nasty on Manucho, Leave my United player alone. That could have been a pen
The color man agrees with me
That was a nasty blow for Manucho. He's got quite the shiner.
Just off the phone with the Gooner. As you can imagine, he's on pins and needles.
GOAL! And you can see why! Hull City have equalized. And it's Cousin.
Wow, here come Hull again!!
1-1
Arsenal have been asking for this!
I think you should get back on the phone with him
Djourou and Toure both in no-man's land ball watching and not marking anyone.
I'll leave him in peace. He's no doubt cursing a blue streak right about now.
Bendtner is coming on
Free kick chance for RVP, perfect place for him to have a pop
useless
The weather in Hull is appalling!
Arsene looks like he wanted Bendtner should have crossed
10 to go
GOAL! Nasri has won it! Great goal!
Nice move by Nasri to get free but hopeless cross BUT the ball comes back to him and scores a good goal
BUGGER from me
GOAL! Bendtner with #3. Hull are done.
Bendtner wraps it up for the Arse
Stevie will be pleased
RVP was offside though
four minutes of added time
Look at Manucho's eye.
He looks like Rocky
That should have been a pen
Nearly a fourth for the Arse there. Bendtner against the bar. Probably should have buried it.
I thought it was a 50/50 challenge but Manucho definitely ended up the worse for wear.
That's it and game over
All the top teams United, Chelsea, Villa and Arsenal all looked like they would drop points at one point. All four come away with maximum points.
PRESSURE'S ON COSTA!!!!!!!!
Have a good afternoon Bob and keep warm
That's it. Four of the top five win today. Puts pressure on Pool for the derby day tomorrow. I'll see you then, mate!
Take care
BTW, the Merseyside derby is on Monday
Cheers, mate. I'll look forward to it on MLK Jr. Day then.
