Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
20 Comments:
FC Metalist Kharkiv, Shakhtar Donetsk and Udinese have already put out Kiev, Moscow and St. Petersburg (the current holders) in earlier action, making it a bleak day in Russia today.
The teams this evening:
Man City team: Given, Richards, Dunne, Onuoha, Bridge, Wright-Phillips, Zabaleta, Kompany, Ireland, Robinho, Evans. Subs: Hart, Berti, Garrido, Elano, Fernandes, Caicedo, Etuhu.
Aalborg team: Zaza, Bogelund, Lasse Nielsen, Jakobsen, Beauchamp, Due, Johansson, Augustinussen, Caca, Risgaard, Shelton. Subs: Kenneth Nielsen, Sorensen, Nomvethe, Tracy, Kristensen, Ronnie Nielsen, Dalsgaard.
So Ched Evans in as lone striker for the injured Craig Bellamy. No room for Caicedo, the goalscorer last week, in a defensive line-up for Sparky.
Encouraging early signs for Citeh with SWP running freely down the right.
Free kick to Citeh now...
Knocked out for a corner.
Nice ball in from Evans but it's behind all the Citeh front-runners.
It's been all Citeh so far.
I'm wondering how these mugs snuck into the Champions League group stage. They're rubbish.
The Danish fans have gone all quiet; this seems all too easy for Citeh.
Gala have taken the lead against Hamburg through a penalty by Harry Kewell of all people. I'd lost track of that old waster. Gala are now 2-1 up on aggregate.
In yesterday's 4th Round second legs Werder Bremen and Marseille advanced to the quarter finals. So that's:
2 Ukrainian
1 German
1 French
1 Italian
And perhaps 1 English and 1 Turkish club to follow them. Then there's just Braga vs. PSG to be sorted later today. A wide open competition really.
Half an hour in and Citeh aren't looking too perturbed about this match. It'll really take an Aalborg to open this one up.
Coming up on half time now. The referee's had enough. He's just taken a tumble.
Into the second half in Istanbul and it's a real ding dong between Gala and Hamburg. 2-2 now with an additional Gala goal from Milan Baros. It's 3-3 on aggregate with the Germans having an edge on the away goals rule now.
SWP pulled up injured at the end of the half and may well not return for the second half.
The second half has started in Denmark.
These Aalborg forwards are making Richard Dunne look like Franco Baresi. Blimey!
Oh dear, Evans had a clear chance there and he just blew it over the bar. That was poor.
Full-time: Citeh have wrapped up a 2-0 aggregate win and will go into the quarterfinal draw tomorrow along with:
Bremen
Hamburg
Kiev
Marseille
Shahktar
Udinese
Still waiting on that Braga v. PSG.
WHAT WERE YOU WATCHING???
Sure looks like Citeh gave away two goals in the last six minutes
Thankfully, they won on Penalties!
Really?! I must have switched off early. I thought it was all over. I got a Skype from my parents mid-way through the second half and when I came back the cricket was on. I checked the scores quickly and it looked as if Citeh had gone through 0-2. Blimey, sorry for the slip-up. See you tomorrow morning.
