Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Summer Transfer News

It's time to take stock of all of the Premiership transfer news. It's been a slower than usual summer with Premiership clubs suffering the effects of the economic crisis. However, there are still plenty of good stories out there. Michael Owen to United, Thomas Vermaelen to the Arse, Dean Sturridge to Chelski, Tevez, Adebayor, Barry et al. to Citeh. Who's had the best summer so far? You can follow all the summer moves here:

I'll look forward to your comments.

I think Owen will be a great signing.

How will Tevez be happy at Citeh? He was upset not starting for United now there is Tev, Adebayor, Santa, Bellamy and Robinho!

I reckon you're right. Sparky's going to be in a real pickle trying to figure out that lot. Besides the five that you mentioned, he's also got to keep SWP, Stephen Ireland, Caicedo and Elano happy. Add to that the reality that Citeh aren't in Europe next season and won't have that outlet to rotate in disgruntled players and it's a real disaster waiting to happen.

Agreed, I forecast a season of chaos for Citeh. I think the first casualty will be Sparky. I don't rate him as anything but a guy who can motivate middling talent. His failure to manage the big egos all last season was plain to see so his days are numbered.

So how about the other sides. My best guess is that United will be slightly weakened by the loss of the Ronaldo and Tevez, while Chelski and Pool will be about the same given that they've fended off transfers.

What about the Arse, Gooner? What are your hopes for the next season?

I think Wenger looks to be making a big gamble on injured players coming back to come good. He's banking on Eduardo and Rosicky and Arshavin to weigh in with 15-20 goals. He's counting on RVP to stay healthy and come up with +20. He's imagining that now that he's shown faith by resisting calls to move Bendtner on that Nick will become a better finisher and get 20.

It's a big gamble because he's not fixed the obvious lack of defensive stalwartness. He looks set to go with Song and Denilson again to plug the gaps and Gallas and Toure or Gallas and Djourou to man the center. He brought in Vermelaen but he's really very short, and the goals that Barnett and SC Colombia put by us were from an inability to deal with the cross.

Losing Nasri for the first half of the season is a blow, especially when you hear that he was caught by that silly wanker, Diaby. Getting rid of Adebayor after the best defensive midfielders like Melo, Barry, Alonso have made decisions to stay or go elsewhere was a blow because we obviously only have money earned from transfers to spend. Seeing Sylvestre, and Eboue still being picked even in pre-season is a confidence sapper.

And I'll tell you something else. Just back from seeing Chelsea and Meelan last night, Chelsea finally has a manager who thinks Drogba is a bigger threat when he's paired with Anelka, and supported by Lamps and Mikel. He's not stranding Drogs by himself, and he's not cluttering up the midfield with Lamps and Ballack together. Zhirkov on the wing looks as tasty running the line or cutting inside and having a pop. Chelsea look propah-nawty and that's too bad.
