I'll be there bright and early for the Chelski vs. Hull City match at 7:45. We may get a chance to see the league debut of one Jozy Altidore, who's on loan from La Liga this season.
Any word on whether it will be shown on the Deuce?
It isn't on any of the guides that I have.
One of the links on soccernet.com said it had the games on ESPN but I couldn't see it!
A very good morning to you guys . I know I'm a bit early but it is almost lunch time . Welcome to the new season .
Cheers, Tony. I'm up with the roosters and excited about the new season too. Here are my predictions for today's results:
Chelski 3 Hull 0
Villa 2 Wigan 1
Blackburn 0 Money Citeh 5
Bolton 0 Sunderland 1
Pompey 1 Fulham 1
Stoke 1 Burnley 0
Wolves 1 West Ham 1
Everton 2 Arsenal 2
And I've got my banker's chip on your Blues, Tony, so they'd better deliver.
I've got a brilliant stream up for Soccer Saturday through LiveVSS. What a start to the season!
My Leeds boys are away to Wycombe today followed by a home match against Walsall next weekend. Then there's the Carling Cup 2nd round tie home to Watford.
Forward on together....
And now we've got the build-up at Stamford Bridge with Ruud Gullit in the studio. Fantastic!
Nothing so far on ESPN2
Hi Bob .
Where's Dave ???
I'm hoping for good stuff from the
Blue guys . Good luck for your White
guys as well .
Phil Brown's game plan is apparently to hope that Chelski haven't got their rhythm yet. Was he watching last weekend? Fat chance, mate. My favorite for the sack race.
Morning, Tony! No sign of Dave, yet. I suppose he's sleeping in. Hope to hear from him soon.
Wait a minute - here's the build-up to Chelski-Hull on ESPN2 with Paul Mariner and Shaka Hislop in the studio. It's listing the match on ESPN2HD. I don't know whether the regular non-HD customers such as me will get it though. We'll see in about five minutes, won't we? Good signs, though.
After this one, we've definitely got Villa vs. Wigan at 10 and Everton vs. Arsenal at 12:30.
Now we've got the standard Premier League build-up to the match. Very interesting stuff from ESPN2.
And the pictures from Sky Sports and ESPN2 are completely synced up. Wow - take that, FSC!
A banner in the crowd at Stamford Bridge reads "Money City can't buy everyone - JT=CFC."
And while Sky goes off for a commercial break, ESPN2 is still on the pitch at Stamford Bridge. I am loving this!
I'm just watching Football Focus on the BBC . I'll then switch to Gillette Soccer Saturday .
Pretty formidable line-up for Chelski:
Cech, Bosingwa, Carvalho, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lamps, Malouda, Anelka, Drogba.
Bollocks on the bench with Deco.
I'm hoping that this stream I got up will go straight onto Soccer Saturday when the match is over.
Nice round of applause for Sir Bobby Robson before the start of the match along with a montage of his highlights on the big screen.
And now on to the real business. We're off!
And that nasty git Stephen Hunt, recently signed by Phil Brown, is straight into the ruck with a nibble on Lamps. I'm not sure Cech is relishing seeing him again.
Oh, what a sitter missed by Drogs!
Bosingwa laid it on a plate for him and he swung wildly at it and sent it well wide. Surprising miss from the big man. A bit of summer rust?
And here come Chelski again. Surging run from Lamps leaves a half chance for Drogs, who whacks it well over. Ominous signs here from the Blues.
The game has settled a bit now. Phil Brown has at least run out a side with the likes of Boateng and Marny who will try to shut the Blues down at every turn.
In the early kick-off in the SPL, Celtic are at 0-0 with Aberdeen after 10 minutes.
Ancelotti's off the bench already. Not taking this match lightly, obviously.
The Hull midfield are working their socks off. Not an inch of space in a very congested Stamford Bridge pitch. Chelski will have to use the full width through Bosingwa and Malouda. Where's Yuri Zhirkov?
Decent ball in from Hunt and Marny nods a header from well out well over. First half chance for Hull.
Corner now to Chelski....
Swung over and JT falling backward nods just over.
First signs that the Stamford Bridge faithful are getting restless. They surely expected, as I did, that their side would simply roll over Hull from the first minute. Hasn't happened yet. Fifteen minutes gone now. 0-0.
And a Hull corner produces a Boateng shot that it stabbed off the line by a combination of Cech and Bosingwa. Wow. Good chance there.
Malouda with a worthless ball in there. And Anelka is not best pleased.
Drogba wins a foul off Michael Dawson. A free kick now is a plum position with the big men coming up...
Wasted free kick.
Stephen Hunt is getting roundly booed at every touch.
Decent through ball to Anelka but the Frenchman was sleeping. He seems a step or two off the pace today.
And now Hull can swing a free kick in....
Far too long from Hunt. Straight into the welcoming arms of Petr Cech.
Lovely interplay between Cole and Malouda but Cashley is just offside.
Great move from Chelski through Mikel and Lamps but the final shot was tame.
Hi Guys,
I did sleep in a little
HULL SCORE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY ON ESPN 2!!!!
GOAL! And it's gone to Hunt and Hull City!
It's not good for my predictions league position but it's great for the game and the league. Sorry, Tony. Your lot are 0-1 down!
ESPN2 had the English feed... brilliant!
My guide still doesn't say it is on
Let's hope United are on tomorrow
Morning, Sleepyhead! I'm glad that you saw that. What a start to the season!
I got your email Tony but haven't replied yet!
What was the ESPN2 pre-game like?
Phil Brown must be delighted! He'll be singing the Beach Boys again if his Tigers can hold on.
Actually it was fairly impressive. Only about ten minutes, but they had a panel with Paul Mariner, Shaka Hislop and Ian Darke and then the opening montage straight from the canned Premier League kind of like the opening for the preview show on FSC. I think I might write them a letter thanking them for the coverage.
Tony,
So you got Fulham.
I think you got them a season too late.
Wasn't that the same last season? Who did you have?
And the ESPN2 feed is just a fraction ahead of the Sky feed on the laptop here.
Boateng hustles Mikel off the ball but the ref calls a foul....
Drogs and Lamps over the ball...
Me too with the timing
I am leaving it on for the half time stuff
Free kick chance for Chelsea.. Drogs puts it in.
Well, that didn't last long for Hull
GOAL! And Drogba fires it straight into the bottom corner. The romance is over. Chelski back in it.
1-1!
At least it won't be a scoreless draw for ESPN!!
Phil Brown isn't happy. He obviously thought that Boateng won the ball fairly and that it was a soft free kick.
No, ESPN have been rewarded with a cracking opening day match for sure.
I can see this one ending at least 4-1
Celtic are 0-2 up through two goals from McGeady.
I agree with you. I had a 3-0 prediction from the start.
Sharp shot from Essien well held by the Hull keeper.
Wasn't much of a challenge there for the free kick there
Looking again, it looks as if Drogba has been taking free kick lessons from Cristiano Ronaldo. Same kind of technique.
Good morning Dave . Sorry I disappeared Bob . I had to go in the kitchen to prepare a Cottage Pie for tonight . Good old Drogs . I'll be in and out all day .
I agree with you - I thought Boateng won the ball fairly by shouldering Mikel off the ball.
Mmmmmm...cottage pie!
I thought this Hull bloke was going to be gone. I am glad he is back. Nope, he is out
When did Hull become Wolves?
And Marney's got trouble here. He's coming off for the old warhorse Nick Barmby.
Celtic are three up
What, you miss the black stripes?
WHo do Leeds have today? They are playing away at Walsall on Tuesday.
Did you see that got Watford at home in the League Cup?
Hull trying the patented Stoke City long throw tactic. Doesn't work.
Hey Dave . Is the send button on your email machine broken again ??? Shall I get it fixed for you ?
Yeah, I covered that earlier, Sleepyhead. Wycombe away today, Walsall in midweek and then Watford in the Carling Cup next week.
That was a reckless challenge but Malouda sure made a meal of it. Glad the guy didn't get red
Nearly half-time now....
What don't both of shut your mouths you sarky old goats!!!
Half time
Good game
I guess I have time to answer some emails!!
Another shot from Essien, this time straight down the keeper's throat. And that's half-time.
1-1 Well poised.
ESPN2 are off for an ad break. We'll see what we get for half-time coverage in a moment.
Sarky old goat here . What kind of language was that last comment written in ?
The link I chose was ESPN2
I will look for another one
Well, that's not good. Golf highlights.
No SKy coverage on atdhe
Still commercials!
Ruud Gullit agrees that it was a "cheap free kick" and that Mikel "throws himself on the ground." First game - first controversy.
Try LiveVSS, mate. Coming through bright and clear. Should have SS coming up later at 10.
I was looking up the schedule for next Saturday. There doesn't seem to be an early game. No game of ESPN,
There isn't a late game either
Now it's baseball highlights on ESPN2. I appreciate the effort with the coverage, but the half-time show leaves a lot to be desired. Can you imagine the half-time show for an NFL game being cricket highlights?
Thanks
Got it
Fist link
Have you tried it Tony?
www.livevss.net
Did ESPN2 saying anything about tomorrow's early game?
Bollocks, the blocker, is coming on
The teams are back out at SB. Bollocks is on for Mikel.
Andy Gray is with Alan Parry on the comptuer
TV still slightly ahead of the computer
Well done ESPN... FSC likes to be behind
oops, ran out of time for emails
You're going to have to wait!
Not a thing. They seem to be doing the stealth thing. They never listed this match or mentioned it on Sportscenter.
Struth... Anelka should have scored there
Chelski straight into fourth gear from the kick-off. Mad scramble in the box.
Still don't know why they didn't go back to Mariner and Hislop in the studio during HT - did they go off to the pub for a pint?
Lamps with a near post shot, just wide.
What's with the free kicks that have some bloke place and another one kick it immediately. JUST KICK IT!!
The Stamford Bridge pitch doesn't look brillant
I agree - what have they been doing on it?
On my Time Warner system, the little blue "Start Over" dot pops up occasionally. So if you sleep in, you can press the Enter button and go back to the start of the match. Not bad, eh?
Some of those mowing lines look like rugger lines
Is that Matt Dawson of Spurs?
No, it isn't
Good tackle, Dawson. Anelka was nearly in there.
I think it's Michael Dawson. And yes, he was just signed from Spurs.
Chelski are definitely knocking on the door here.
Oh, Drogba's missed two easy ones there in close succession.
Great save from a Drogs shot
I don't know why Brad Myhill hasn't got a look in in the American set-up. He's a really good keeper.
Bollocks blocking again
That Dawson is not the same guy I am talking about from Spurs
I didn't know he was American
You can tell that Drogs and Anelka aren't 100% sharp. If this were being played in January, Chelski would be 3 or 4-1 up.
Yeah, Myhill was born in California but has lived most of his life in the UK.
An hour gone now, and it's still surprisingly 1-1. If Hull pull out a draw here, will you do a wee dance at the end of the match?
Gardner robs Lamps right at the crucial moment. He's had a solid match.
You could just call me John Travolta!
Of course, it ain't going to happen!
Struth, that was chance for Hull
Oh, that was a chance for Barmby. Should have done better.
I'm thinking of the wee dance that Susan Boyle did after she got through the audition for Britain's Got Talent.
What's with the new Chelski kit? It looks as if they have breast implants in!
Barmby picks up a yellow card for a high foot. Stephen Hunt comes off to a round of boos from the SB crowd to be replaced by Kemel Ataturk, founder of the Turkish republic. And Deco's on for a cameo appearance.
Don't forget the lovely zipper!
It's an old saying but these are the kind of matches that champions must win.
Hull nearly in again - they do look as if they might score a second!
Hull should have done better with that cross
Chelsea don't score from a Lamps free kick
I don't get this footer stuff
Sky are showing this game over here but ESPN are showing it here. The games don't match
Where's my bruv buggered off to?
Did he not like me calling him a sarky old goat!!
He's old and sarky???
Oooh, great shot from Essien, just wide.
Chelsea will score in added time... they always do
He said he had to make a cottage pie. That's got to take a minute or two, right?
Fifteen minutes left. I have a sneaking suspicion that Chelski will still win this one too.
Here comes last year's hero - Geovanni.
CIA here . Sorry but I did say I
would be in and out . I'm in the
kitchen cooking an afternoon
breakfast at the moment .
Geovanni coming on
Why didn't he start?
Again, what happened to Hull's stripes?
Bollocks rifles a shot over the bar.
ooh, I thought Bollocks was going to put that in
Anelka off for Kalou
"Afternoon breakfast," Tony? Who are you - Rod Stewart?
His first touch should have been a goal
Oh, Kalou misses an easy one. How many chances do Chelski need today?
That was useless by Hull.
I guess they have decided not to attack!
Why bring on Geo?
Inside the last ten minutes. A draw is definitely possible!
Maybe Phil Brown thinks that a moment of inspiration from Geo can snatch a win?
Tony,
we want the breakfast... you can have the lunch
You were pulling him down Cashley, that's what you did!!
WHat was that Hull guy doing?? He stood and watched it. Cech was out of his goal!
Under five to go
Hull City fans enjoying a nice day out in London, taunting the Blues fans.
My word. My guide says ESPN2 is supposed to have Bass fishing on!
Stalwart defending now from the Tigers.
I would love this score it stays the same
Of course, United drew at home on opening day against Newcastle. We still won the title and they went down.
Good news for Chesea? Bad news for Hull?
Welcome, Johnno. I know - it's brilliant, isn't it? Interestingly, the half-time adverts were all oriented toward the bass fisherman.
oooh, almost deflected in!!
Not just Bass Fishing but BassMASTERS
Where's the urgency from Chelski?
Almost the winner for Hull.
Corner.
how many to add?
3?
Ooh, Drogs has a sniff on the turn but Dawson blocks him again. Are you sure that's not the Spurs bloke?
Struth... a useless shot finds Drogs but he doesn't finish
SIX minutes!!
I really think that guy is Matt Dawson. He doesn't look the same
GOAL!
BLOODY HELL!!!
I TOLD YOU!!
That was a lucky lucky goal!
Hey John
GOAL! Of course. It's Drogba at the death. Phil Brown won't be singing today.
Chelski 2-1 winners.
Mis-hit, right?
Now, come on Hull... score!!
Did Drogs get a yellow for the shirt
Cal wants to know whether Drogba got a yellow for the celebration?
He was trying to pull it back but the spin on the ball pulled it into the net. Very fortunate. And harsh on Hull, who have done just about everything right today.
He better have
Didn't see the yellow card come out. I hate it when the ref books a player for a celebration.
Morning All!
Maybe you only get yellow if you drop your shorts.
Celtic won 3-1.. a winning start for Tony Mowbry
Oh, the Turkish lad hits the roof of the net.
I'm off for a bit of breakfast with the missus. Back in a tick.
From SKy
"A late booking for Drogba for his goal celebrations"
That's it
Congrats Tony... of course, I am bummed. No dancing at Via Lino
Good game. Good start for ESPN
Now for the rest of the games
Absolutely nothing of post game for ESPN. Straight to ESPN News
Lauri is in California for a cousin's wedding. I'm flying solo with the kids. I'll try to check in later. Enjoy the day. C'mon you Hammers!
I have SS on the computer and Villa and Wigan on the TV
Money Citeh score!! Adebayor with the goal after Richards saved one off the line!
I'm back from the breakfast and have SS blaring on the computer and Villa muted on the box.
Sunderland take the lead as I come back.
Sunderland take the lead at Bolton
It is all happening
I have Villa on the TV
SS going strong on the computer and Money Citeh in another window.
I LOVE IT!!!
Bent scores Sunderland's goal
Tevez replaces his spot on the Old Trafford bench to a spot on the Eastland's bench
NICE MOVE CARLOS!!
Bristol Rovers are off to a flyer in Division 1. 0-2 - the only scorers so far in my division.
Colchester take the lead against Yeovil... on their way to another SEVEN?
Well, you knew that that was bound to happen. Sparky can't just go and start eight forwards.
Sven's men are at it again
County 1-0 up
It's all Wycombe so far. They've lost two so far this season, so I'm hoping that the streak continues.
Morning chaps. Thanks for the blow-by-blow Chelski - Hull comments. Can't stand that Hunt guy and I didn't expect him to be at Hull.
What are you watching now Dave?
McCarthy heads one well wide
I only hope that Sparky is mad enough to keep Tevez on the bench so that Adebayor can lope around the field. He's got one today, tbf, but there's no contest who's the more dangerous forward.
Fulham takes the lead over Pompey. Sounds a bit comical. Long ball from Dempsey ricochets off Zamora into the net past a prone David James.
Hey Gooner, you didn't watch it on the Deuce?
It was you that told us about it
I have SS and Money Citeh on the computer and Villa on the TV
Bugger, Pompey have fallen behind to Fulham
What has happened the them? Winning the cup was the worst thing to happen
Morning, Gooner! I've got the Villa match muted on the telly and SS blasting on the laptop.
Fifteen minutes in and we still haven't had a shot off against Wycombe. Come on, you Whites!
Scunthorpe are beating Derby
ooh, Wigan hit the post
Oooh, shot off the bar for Wigan at Villa. Nearly a dream start for Wigan.
Oooh, Jason Roberts misses a sitter.
Bellamy complaining that he wasn't offside.. he was!
Hope there isn't a golf club around
give us the SS link willya?
