Charlie Davies Injured in Car Accident!
As we get set for another day of internationals, including the final U.S. qualifier against Costa Rica at RFK, spare a thought for Charlie Davies - one of the brightest new stars on the U.S. side - who was critically injured yesterday in a car accident that took the life of one of the passengers. Charlie's injuries are described as "not life threatening but possibly career ending" in the following article:

It seems a bad injury, one that will end any hope of his appearance at the World Cup.
The Post said that he has two broken legs, facial fractures, and a broken elbow. Though he's not in danger of losing his life, he faces a very long road to recovery and the hospital spokesman confirmed that these injuries could be career ending.
What a shame. There's been nothing posted by the USFed about any tribute for him at tonight's game against Costa Rica, but the Sammers sent out a broadcast asking people to print out the number 9 on a piece of paper which fans will hold up at the ninth minute of the match.
ESPN reported this morning that Charlie is likely to be out for 6-12 months. That's a wide estimate, but he's almost assuredly out of the World Cup squad for next summer, which is such a shame. Gooch, on the other, hand is scheduled to be out for 3-4 months. He'll still be in contention.
