Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
210 Comments:
First goal of the day in the FA Cup as Chris Fagan gives Lincoln the lead at Northwich.
Lovely - I've got a terrific stream up for Soccer Saturday via VSS.
Crikey - non-leaguers Northwich have equalized!
And the Lincoln players are getting the "Who are ya!" routine for possibly the first time in their careers from the 200 or so Northwich fans in the crowd.
Wow - it's all happening now. The first half was fairly tame but now there have been two quick goals. Lincoln respond well by taking the lead once again.
Millwall have started against non-league Staines Town. No score as of yet.
My predictions for this morning:
Blackburn 1 Stoke 0
Fulham 2 Bolton 0
Citeh 3 Hull 0
Pompey 0 United 5
West Ham 1 Burnley 0
Wigan 1 Sunderland 2
Villa 2 Spurs 3
Hey Bob,
I am around.
Off to shower before the matches.
I see that Leeds play tomorrow morning. I guess you will be able to watch them
I didn't see the link for SS on VSS. Can you send me the link?
Oh dear - Northwich have gone 1-3 down. That could be another minnow out of the Cup.
The VSS has changed its interface in a massive way this weekend. I clicked on the "Soccer" link at the top and it gave me a separate page of loads of footie options. Here's the one for SS:
http://www.livevss.net/jtv.php?c=dragon_footy_2
Morning, btw - good to have you on board!
Yes, Leeds are on tomorrow in their 2nd Round match away to Kettering. It's at the same time as the Merseyside derby but I did see one link on P2P for it. Looking forward to watching the lads.
Cheers for the link
Not good news for Gooner
RVP out for FIVE months!
My guy is switching channels!!
Good, he is back. He went to Rugby and Racing!
Kuzc in goal for United
Neville plays
Rooney up front
Owen and Berba are both on the bench!
I'm back from the shower too. Good to see that you got onto the SS link. Yes, the guy running the channel has ADD. He switched over for the Northwich and Lincoln goals.
Speaking of which, Lincoln City are the first side into the pot for the Third Round draw.
RVP on the sidelines for five months might be a blessing in disguise. It might light a fire under Wenger to get a proper striker in who can actually score some goals. RVP has never scored enough. A top four side like Arsenal needs a guy to lead the line who's going to score 20+ goals a season - RVP has never done that. I hear that their in for the cream of Europe's strikers. Meanwhile, Liverpool are in for....Ruud!
Rangers have been beaten.
What is with Old Firm
There are only three points ahead of Hibs in 3rd
Someone Said will be cockahoop this morning. Rangers have lost to ten men Aberdeen.
I did see about Ruud going to Anfield. I hope he doesn't go
ESPN2 has the creepy hunting show on. Will we get a match on the Deuce this morning? Maybe not. It would nice if they covered the Merseyside Derby tomorrow.
Well, Ruud's been riding the bench at Real. He can't do that and expect to sneak into the Dutch squad for SA with the likes of RVP, Huntelaar, Babel and Venegoor of Hesselink about.
Looks like FSC are setting up West Ham v. Burnley. What a load of rubbish. What happened to Pompey v. United?
Uh oh, ADD boy has switched over to the 2:40 at Newbury for some reason. Maybe he's had a flutter?
Whew - we're back on SS for the 10 am kickoffs.
Paul Merson had an interesting point about West Ham earlier. How on earth can Fabio Capello consider any West Ham players, including Ben Foster, Matthew Upson and Carlton Cole, if the Hammers are struggling to avoid relegation?
Teams are our at Fratton Park on ESPN2
Thanks for the tip, mate. I wasn't sure we'd get any ESPN2 coverage this morning.
I've gone for 0-5 United in this match. Care to predict this one?
Any divided loyalties this morning?
Good round of the Pompey chimes before the match. The crowd at Fratton Park sound excellent. No Fergie gum-chomping on the touchline.
Just sitting down to watch the match. Had to vacuum
We're off
I don't even know the team
Oh, Roon was by Kabboul really easily there. This could be another 9-1 match today. Pompey don't look too confident from the start.
Millwall one up in the Cup at Staines
Looks like Jonny Evans partnering Vidic in the middle of defense. Giggs up front with Roon.
United have had trouble on the South coast in the recent years
I know we have won, lost and drawn
Avram's first match in charge of Chelsea was against United. He last game in charge was against United
Now..
Figuring out the team
Kuz
Neville
Brown
Vidic
Evra
Giggs
Carrick
Fletcher
Scholes
Valencia
Rooney
Very flexible team
Brighton are 1-0 up at home to Rushden and Diamonds.
Where's my boy Nani?
Great reporting there by Chris K.
Nani mouthed off against Fergie during the international break... can you say Dog House
Palace have taken an early 2-0 lead against Watford in the Championship.
Come on United... make my day a cakewalk!
I want the Dahlgren 5-0 prediction please
He's lucky not to get a boot in the eye!
Goal at Newcastle... for the hosts
Big game in the Championship - Newcastle v. Swansea. The Toon Army are happy - the Magpies are 1-0 up.
Great pass by the Ref!!
Millwall have been pegged back
Lovely - Staines are back in the match through a penalty!
Nice run Valencia - picks up a free kick.
Free kick chance for United
Ron to take!!
Useless
Giggs over the ball....
knocked out for a corner to United.
Corner... ooh, Scholes hits one just over... it wasn't on the volley.
ooh, Pompey almost in!!
Archetypal United corner routine with a ball back to Scholes at the top of the box but Paul put it well over.
Nice save by Kuz
SS and ESPN almost in sync
Oxford are 1-0 up over Barrow in the Cup.
When is the Third Round Draw?
Tomorrow after Leeds?
My pal at Virginia Tech will be happy. His hometown Huddersfield Town are 0-1 up at Port Vale in the Cup.
Pompey could use the three points today!
Shut it!
Now Rushden and Diamonds have equalized. Good few minutes for the minnows.
O'Hara goes very close.. Nice save again
Good tip over by Kuz there. Pompey are giving it a go.
Struth!!
What kind of defending is that!!
Oh, free header. Dindan well off target with the header. What are United playing at?
All Pompey right now!
Dindane now into the book for a back on the Orrible Orange.
Goal... West Ham have taken the lead
West Ham in the lead. Cheeky quick free kick by Scotty Parker who put Collison through on goal alone.
1-0!
Luton are 0-1 up at Rotherham. Well done, the Hatters.
The Toon are two up
Eric Morcombe would be pleased
Good to see Merse with the facial hair gone!
Great run by Valencia
Rooney fouled... PENALTY!
Penalty!
Great run for Valencia, put Roon in and he went down under a heavy challenge. Good decision.
There was contact but... Rooney to take it
ONE NIL!!
Great penalty... just like mine!
Roon to take....
Great penalty. Begevic with no hope. 1-0!
Four more to come at Fratton Park, then. How many goals this season for Roon?
Again, great run by Valencia.
I think he could have gone all the way instead of trying to do one-two with Roon
Millwall held in the Cup
Staines have held Millwall and earn a well-deserved match at Millwall to come.
The two matches on our TV are the two matches that have the goals!
Struth!!!
How did Pompey not score THREE times from that free kick
That defending wasn't so clever. It almost seems as if the United defenders are pulling out of challenges, doesn't it? Are they saving it for games to come?
Brighton have regained the lead against Rusden and Diamonds.
Meanwhile, Forest Green are 0-1 at Bath City.
United now within two points of Chelsea.
I don't know what they are doing
Newcastle are 3-0 up and cruising it.
You do have a Carling Cup quarterfinal to come in midweek, right?
Penalty for Pompey!!
WHERE?????
ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!!
What's happened here! Kuz has come for a ball and was knocked over. The referee seems to have given a penalty. WTF?!
Bloody Hell... he buries this one!!
Last week he was hopeless
I have no clue what happened there at all. I didn't see any possible infringement apart from maybe a free kick for United if the ref wanted to protect Kuz.
1-1.
And now Pompey definitely have their tails up.
Maybe Vidic pulling on a shirt? I don't know. That seems a shocking decision for me.
What did the linesman see?
The ref called a foul on Kuz before he looked at the linesman!
RIDICULOUS!
What did the linesman see?
The ref called a foul on Kuz before he looked at the linesman!
RIDICULOUS!
Tony won't be pleased
Fulham are losing
Scholes with a deflected shot. Corner now to United.
Good thing that Fergie had a touchline ban today. He'd have been having kittens!
Oh, Dindane might have done better there.
Accrington Stanley are 1-0 up on Barnet.
Vidic goes through the back of Dindane and picks up a yellow.
Really not sure what anyone did to warrant a penalty there. I find it baffling.
My in-laws just left to go back to NC so I've reclaimed the basement and the computer.
OK, is Dindane the biggest waster or what?
Bolton gets one and West Ham get another now.
Morning, Gooner! Good to have you on board. Dindane's definitely a waster. He should have had a brace by now.
Rushden and Diamonds back on level terms with Brighton in the Cup.
No one was there for the pullback from Valencia
Everything's going through Scholesy right now. He's had several pops on goal.
Oh dear - York have taken the lead at Cambridge.
Where's Nani, Davey. You know I rate him very highly. I've always expected him to kick on, no more so now that CRonnie's at Real.
Bournemouth 1-0 up over Sven's Notts County side.
MK Dons 1-0 over Exeter.
Blimey - the Hammers are 3-0 up. Another penalty!
3-0 at West Ham. Trev's blowing bubble's right now.
Bath are back in it now. 1-1 with Forest Green.
Citeh are 1-0 up. Sounds like an o.g.
Honestly, would you let Kaboul within a mile of taking a free kick? What a waste.
Half time at Fratton Park. If Pompey continue to play like this under new gaffer Avram Grant, they'll be out of danger pretty soon. United players surrounding the ref as they troop off.
Half time
RIDICULOUS
Citeh winning
The Hammers are three up
Predictably, Man City up on Hull. Serial underachiever SWP with a goal.
Second half starting up....
Barnet have equalized against Accrington Stanley in the Cup.
Jozy Altidore nearly sets up an equalizer for Hull.
GOAL! There it is!
Rooney makes good after missing a chance earlier. Giggs played a lovely ball through to him and he finished coolly.
1-2!
Accrington are back in front. 2-1 up on Barnet.
The Saints are 0-2 up on Northhampton in the Cup.
York are 0-2 up at the Abbey Stadium. Sad days for Cambridge.
Rotherham have pegged Luton back to 1-1.
Valencia has been United's best player to my mind. He streaks through again and nearly puts Roon through. Corner to United as the skies open up. Appalling weather in Portsmouth.
Just got back to see that Man Utd have gone ahead again. It looks pretty miserable tonight in Portsmouth with that rain sheeting down.
Davey, Nani????
Another penalty? Good grief.
Roon lines it up....
Is that another penalty!? It seemed as if Giggs was brought down. Yes, it is.
Roon stepping up to take...
1-3! Roon with a hat-trick.
And congrats Davey. That's Rooney's first hat trick of the season, no?
Davey mentioned earlier in the thread that Nani was mouthing off to Fergie during the last international break, so he's in the permanent doghouse right now.
Forest Green are 1-2 up over Bath City now.
I didn't see that. Too bad. I rate him. Had he not had to serve as Cinderella to CRonnie's ugly sister act, I think he'd be a superstar now.
Oh, Valencia nearly got one of his own. Streaked through the middle and tried one with the outside of his right foot when he might have tucked in with his left. Shame.
Complete turnaround for Sven's boys. Notts County are 1-2 up now at Bournemouth.
I'm not sure he's got quite the sharp edge that Ronaldo has. He's a bit of what people expected from Skippy early on in his career before he turned it on.
Cool, Kanu's coming on.
See if he can do that Voodoo-stomp and ghost one by TK.
Jamie O'Hara now giving it to the linesman. Pompey are getting pretty frustrated. They've played well but it could easily finish 1-9 here.
Always good to see Kanu.
That was hilarious. The Neviller went to play a one-two but was poleaxed by a Pompey player (Kabboul?). The play continued and when a foul was called on Fletch, Neville whacked the ball away in disgust. Yellow card predictably.
Nani's not got the perfect physique that CRonnie has. And it makes a difference when you're that young and have to play second fiddle to someone as amazing as CRonnie is.
He might have done himself a favor and gone somewhere else that guaranteed more playing time. Though it would be tough to leave ManU which is one of the top 5 gigs in the world.
Soton now 0-3 up over Northhampton. That could be a springboard for their season. Le Tiss a happy boy.
Loved that Neville moment. Kaboul raised in my opinion for doing what any right minded person would do to him given the chance.
Rotherham have regained the lead now. 2-1 over Luton.
Crikey - West Ham are 5-0 up!
Boateng has finally talked himself into the ref's book. He's been yammering away for the past five minutes. Pompey players likely to lose their heads here.
Sounds like Adebayor has been subbed in order to avoid being sent off. He stamped on a player earlier and escaped. Citeh hanging on to their lead.
Exeter are 1-2 up at the Dons in the Cup.
Burnley have got one back - 5-1 West Ham.
I thought that the floodgates might open here at Fratton Park, but it hasn't happened. Maybe they're saving themselves, although you'd have to think that the kids will take the Carling Cup stage on Tuesday.
Not fit to wear our shirt, Adebayor is quickly establishing that he may not be fit to wear the dinar-sullied Citeh one. A complete shower of unlikeability Citeh are.
I've switched over to the West Ham match for the moment. All the action is there.
Northants have got one back against the Saints. 1-3 there.
Pompey nearly in there again. Good save, Kuz.
Ach, it's over at West Ham. This has more potential.
A baffling officiating crew, a carnage-inviting MUFC defense, and horrible weather? This game has more to offer.
1-0 Wigan. They're bouncing back from that tonking earlier in the week.
Anderson on for Fletch.
Exeter now 2-3 up on the Dons in the Cup.
5-2 at Upton Park now. Crikey!
Jamie O'Hara has finally talked himself into the ref's book. The forgotten John Utaka coming on.
Fulham equalize.
I may be wrong then. Still, can't see West Ham conceding enough to lose the points in this one.
Pompey are going to be in real trouble when the African Nations Cup comes around, losing Dindane, Kabboul, Kanu, Utaka and probably more than I can think of.
I need another Fulham goal for my prediction to come good.
Hull get a penalty. Your old boy Toure gave it away.
Bullard equalizes!
MK Dons have equalized again! 3-3!
Sounds as if Jimmy Bullard's celebration is worth having a look at on the replay shows.
I'm worried about the ACN too. Wenger is setting up Ramsey to take over for Song while he's away and I just haven't seen anything in his game that indicates that he's good in that role. Denilson's back, but he lacks the drive that Song brings to the match. Funny to think that Song's come on to be that kind of key man for us. Wenger knows.
Gillingham 1-0 up on Burton Albion in the Cup.
Fabulous! Hull's not my favorite, but spoiling Citeh's party is all I can hope for them.
Utaka picks up a yellow....
As for Pompey, they're in real trouble. It strikes me that they've played a number of matches now against their relegation rivals. Anything from this match would be completely unexpected. They've got to beat West Ham, Bolton, Wigan, Burnley, Wolves, etc. I think they've played a number of those clubs and not done the job. Now they have to scramble against the top and middle of the pack. Tall order when you think of all their Africans who'll be away for key clashes.
Swindon take the lead against Wrexham in the Cup.
I dunno, was Gigg's strike that clever or should the keeper have done more there?
Yeah, it is a tall order but I do rate Avram Grant as the kind of manager who can organize a side to avoid being beaten. I agree with you that they were never going to get anything out of this match. But they could survive if he gets them playing like this regularly.
GOAL! Giggs curls a free-kick into the corner of the net. And that's his 100th Premier League goal!
I have been out on errands.... sorry I missed the second half performance
MK Dons have turned it around 4-3 there against Exeter.
You didn't miss much, Davey. It's been a farcical match, really. Horrible weather and Mike Dean officiating.
It's never been in doubt. Pompey have given their all... but it's hardly enough.
Even with that erratic ref, you won it at a canter.
Brighton now 3-2 up over Rushden.
Tranmere and Aldershot have drawn in the Cup.
Man, Tommy Smythe got rooked at Men's Wearhouse didn't he? Or did he spill his brew-up and have to borrow the jacket off Derek Rae?
Awesome goal celebration from Bullard!!!
The Tikka tick-off is as good as the dentist's chair. Lovely.
Those penalty decisions were terrible.
At least there was contact for the United pens but I fail to see ANYTHING for the Pompey goals
It is now 5-3 at Upton Park!
Right, off for a late bath. The Villain-Spuds match is on FSC which I only get upstairs away from the computer so I'll sign off for the day. Cheerio chaps.
It is finally over
West Ham win 5-3!
So into the pot for the 3rd Round of the Cup:
Forest Green
Notts County
Brentford
Brighton
York City
Gillingham
Colchester
MK Dons
Southhampton
Lincoln City
Huddersfield
Swindon
Cheerio, Gooner!
Spurs have kicked off at Villa Park. As a result of those earlier results, United are now two points shy of Chelski. Spurs have the chance to move three points clear of Arsenal in fourth. Alternately, Villa could move level with Arsenal if they pulled off a win today.
At the bottom, Pompey are rooted on 7 points. It's hard to see them not being bottom at Christmas, usually the kiss of death for teams.
Bolton slip into the dropzone on 12 points after their draw with Fulham. West Ham leapfrog them onto 14 points on the strength of that wild win over Burnley.
GOAL! Villa take the lead.
A corner is swung in, big John Carew gets his head to it, it's parried out by Gomes but Gabby Ag is able to bundle it over the line.
1-0!
Oh, big chance there for Spurs. Lennon was put through from a free kick. But Friedel did well to save from him. The follow up was blocked out.
Half an hour gone and that Gabby Ag goal still separates the teams. Arsenal, Spurs and Villa all tied on 25 points now.
Harry Redknapp's not happy. He's up out of his seat and jabbering at the fourth official.
Half-time: Villa go into the interval 1-0 up. This is quite a different affair from that home match with Wigan for Spurs.
Teams are back on at Villa Park and ready to roll for the second half.
