UK Election Debate Live!
I'm foregoing the tedious Europa League matches this afternoon in favor of watching the second UK general election debate between current PM Gordon Brown (Labour), David Cameron (Tory) and Nick Clegg (Lib-Dem). Clegg cleaned up in the first debate by posing as "not one of these berks," leading to a wave of "Cleggmania" this week. Tonight's debate is focusing on international affairs. Join in if you'd like to comment on the UK general election campaign.

The main problem Gordon Brown has been having in this campaign has been that he's been forced to defend the "New Labour" policies of Tony Blair - but without Blair's charisma.
After Clegg's victory last week in the first debate on domestic affairs, both Brown and Cameron had promised to hit Clegg harder. We'll see if that happens.
I'm watching live on the Guardian site at:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/blog/2010/apr/22/leaders-debate-live-blog
The three participants are having a go at UK relations with Europe now, with Cameron posing as the "Euroskeptic." Brown just got off a nice laugh/applause line about the other two being like his boys "squabbling at bathtime." He's referred to Cameron as "anti-Europe" and Clegg as "anti-American" (mainly because he's anti-Iraq occupation.
Good question about Afghanistan there, exposing how close together the three main candidates are:
Brown - pro Afghan and Iraq occupation but wants a new strategy.
Cameron - pro Afghan and Iraq occupation but wants more troop involvement.
Clegg - troops out of Iraq; pro-Afghanistan occupation but wants a new strategy.
As with the U.S. political spectrum, this begs the question of who anti-war people should vote for?
Now, Brown and Cameron are both beating up on Clegg for not being hawkish enough nuclear weapons. It's a disgrace when a Labour MP is taking a more hawkish view than the bloody Lib-Dem candidate. This is the main problem with Gordon Brown's candidacy this time and the main reason he's polling third of these three idiots.
According to the Guardian live polling, Clegg is coming off the winner again tonight. On one level, I can understand it - he's not the other two berks and there is plenty of anger about the current politics in the UK as there is back here. However, the more I hear Clegg talk, the less I know about what he really stands for, apart from these vague pitches to "change" and "a new way." To their credit, Cameron and Brown have been very clear about their policies as odious as they are.
Cameron is apparently coming off worst, but that's probably a reflection of the Guardian readership who aren't very likely to respond to his "Little Englander" policies.
And now Brown is demagoguing on immigration again. Yikes!
This allows Cameron to outflank Brown on the left!
