Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Craig Johnston's open letter to Sepp Blatter about the Jabulani

That ex-Liverpool player and inventor of the Predator boot Craig Johnson has written an open letter to FIFA complaining about the Jabulani's lack of quality. It's interesting reading.

Thanks for the post, Gooner. I agree UWS, he must have been reading your comments on the LOB this month.

I only have one issue with his letter. Since when has Daniel Agger been described as a "set piece expert?"

Diego Forlan seems to be the Jabulani expert as three of his World Cup goals have been long range efforts that have deceived the keeper. No player has benefited more from the use of this ball than Forlan. Any Jabulani questions should be referred to Diego Forlan.

I was puzzled by the Agger comment too.

Forlan does seem comfortable with this ball, but being fair, his goal yesterday swerved all over and made the otherwise excellent Stecklinberg look like an idiot.

Sure, with consitent work at it, players are going to get better at playing with this ball. The larger point, brought out in this letter, is whether that's a good thing or should this technology be scrapped and Adidas go back a step to two previous balls ago when the heft of it and it's passage through the air was more predictable. I vote the latter.

The one from France '98 would do for me. Looked good and set-piece merchants could put a bit of bend on it or hit it hard and flat so that it would get up and down over a wall.
