Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

You must be losing a little Dr. Dahlgren... the match is against Hungary!!
Could you have picked someone better than John Terry for the picture!!!!!
Sorry - I am losing it. I've been coding data all day long and need to get my head above water. Hungary it is. I'll change the title.
Oh - and Rooney is in the picture as well. Deal with it!
Afternoon mate
Just turned on Five Live
A 4-3-3 formation but SEVEN players that played against Germany are starting tonight!
Scotland already losing to Sweden
I got here just too late for the line up but I do know that Walcott and Adam Johnson on either side of Rooney
Euro Qualifier latest score
Estonia 0 Faroe Islands 1
Five Live is talking to Phil Neville and Graham Taylor
As they are talking, the three keepers come out to a big round of applause
Here is the team
Hart
Johnson
Terry
Jagielka
A Cole
Barry
Lampard
Gerrard
Walcott
Johnson
Rooney
Read something interesting on soccernet this morning
We were talking about Ashley Cole being booed by the fans during the Community Shield. Well this is what Ken Bates said about him and Fabio
Chelsea defender Cole, who was apparently keen to leave for Real Madrid this summer, was also criticised in the tabloids as he allegedly said he was unhappy in England, and Bates - writing in his programme notes ahead of Leeds' Carling Cup victory over Lincoln - has made clear his unhappiness with the duo.
"Capello comes back refreshed after his month-long holiday to tell us what we all knew," he wrote.
"Namely that England were crap and there will be changes - but he still includes 'Cashley' Cole, who has publicly stated that he hates England (and the English). I suppose Cheryl thinks the same about you, Cashley."
Transfer news
Kenwyne Jones has joined Stoke from Sunderland
I think this was one of old sites that has changed
http://eplsite.com/
Bellamy and Ireland are out of CIteh's squad for the Europa League match next week
I've got a Gillette Soccer Special up through p2p now.
Three more Carling Cup matches starting up in a few minutes. The draw for the Second Round starts after those matches.
Aren't you going to watch the match?
I am going to look for a link closer to kick off. I will leave Five Live on until it clicks off
England players wearing numbers 1 through 11
Theo started the three games before the WC and the first one after it but never went to SA... interesting fact
Yeah - I'm enjoying the panel chatter right now but I'll pop onto a link for the match once it gets closer.
I do not like the look of that side that you posted earlier. Jagielka should never get a chance to wear an England shirt IMHO. I don't like the idea of Wayne Rooney - Mr. Hasn't Scored Since March - as the lone striker. And Walcott and Johnson won't provide enough service. Oh - and Lamps and Gerrard together again - hasn't Fabio learned anything from the summer?!
I don't really get how Theo has been employed by England managers and I'm sure he's confused as well. He was picked by Sven when he was far too green for 2006 and then wasn't used. Then four years later after he'd had some experience (and scored a hat-trick away to Croatia in the qualifiers) he's not picked. I don't get it.
What on earth is going on with the Scots. They're already 2-0 down to Sweden. I predict another torrid qualifying campaign for the Jocks.
They say that Johnson and Walcott are going to be up there with Roon
Scotland two down in Sweden
Yeah - but neither is a striker. Walcott will run wide right and Johnson will tuck in. You can't just stick middies and wingers in and say that they'll play up front. It doesn't work that way.
The first Atdhe link for the England v. Hungary match is working now.
Teams are in the tunnel now. I've hopped onto the second Atdhe link.
Does it strike you that England training tops and kits are looking more and more like cricket or tennis whites than ever? How much whiter can these guys get?
Stevie G. now leading the side out. Polite applause more than a real roar from the crowd. Loads of empty seats at Wembley tonight.
Hartlepool take the lead against Sheff United... another shock in the league cup!
The Hungarian anthem has more than a passing similarity to "Abide with Me."
I would love to see the Blades put to the crowd. Boom boom.
Just turned on the atdhe link. Is it a Setanta link.
Is that who is showing it over there. I was hoping for BBC
Most of the players singing the anthem... unlike during the WC
Finally, some commentary!!
There was just a air view of Wembley and now we have Martin Tyler
Five Live just clicked off
Same ref that ballsed up the Brazil v. Ivory Coast match in June. Not a good omen.
Kick off time!
Wembley pitch did do well on the weekend. I heard that it was like the surface of the Emirates... plastic in there too
We're off
Hope it isn't a 3-6!!!
Germany have taken the lead in Denmark
Gomez with the goal
Ukraine and Holland are scoreless at half
It has been 45 days since the German debacle
Please don't get hurt Wayne
Haven't heard much booing!!
Cardiff 1 Burton Albion 0 after 17 min
Decent start from England. Jags nearly got on the end of that one.
Wayne puts the ball in the net but offside!!!
Mr. Hasn't Scored Since March puts one in the net but he's ruled offside. Good knock on from Johnson there.
Hungary haven't qualified since '86!
Didn't they win 10-1 in '82
I don't know why they're so insistent on weaving plastic into the turf these days. Just grow some bloody grass!
You be nice to my Wayne!
I don't remember that. I do remember a key match in 1982 qualifying that England won in Hungary. Brooking scored one that stuck in the stanchion of the goal.
Well, it has improved this surface. I mean Wee Mikey didn't even get hurt on Sunday!
I say drop Wazza and play Dracula and Chicharito!
Another chance falls to Jags but he muffs it wide into the side netting.
Theo stretches his legs for the first time but his cross is deflected out.
I think they beat El Salvador in '82
I do remember that. Do you also remember being at Portman Road when a lower level team beat Hungary which meant that England could qualify with a win at Wembley
Poor corner in from Gerrard and Jags is the target man again. Short one now. You'll love that.
Burton Albion are holding Cardiff in their first Carling Cup fixture ever.
Burton Albion even it up at Cardiff
That sounds right. I remember that ES match and the one at Portman Road. We were in the boot boy end.
It's nice to be able to hear the band again without the interference of the bloody vuvuzelas.
I thought we were in the other end... The whole crowd cheered. The players said afterwards that they knew something was up
Nice movement from the England boys but it's broken up when it reaches Wazza.
Hungary win a corner off Jags.
I'd like to see Psycho get right up in Rooney's face and give him the hairdryer treatment.
hiya . eric lentme the lt for this. i am aboard.
As for this formation, I still think Gerrard and Lamps both need to be in the middle. I know they both want to go forward but how about take turns going forward. The defenders wouldn't know what to do!
Free kick now for England.....
Poor one from A. Johnson.
Welcome, Gooner!
Well done Eric... welcome
ooh, Johnson fires one over the bar!!!
Should have been one nil!
nice one theo.
Gooner joins us just in time to see some magic from Theo but Adam Johnson misses a sitter from about eight yards. Jabulanied over the top. What was I saying earlier about trying to convert middies to strikers?
Northern Ireland losing to Montenegro
Scotland are now three down in the Dahlgren homeland
The Scots are getting tonked 3-0 in Sweden now.
Bob, they just mentioned the Brooking goal that you talked about
The commentators reference that Brooking goal that I mentioned earlier.
Hart comes well for that corner.
I feel that Hart should be the England first choice the next 10 years
Argentina take the lead in the Rep of Ir
too much passing by England in the box
I reckon that Gooner should have custody of that laptop from around 7:30 to 2:30 on Saturdays. What do you think?
He's the best that we have but I just feel a bit uneasy about Hart. He doesn't resemble the classic England keeper physically.
I second that emotion... well the 7:30 match should be okay being on ESPN
The back two looking VERY dodgy!
Wales take the lead against Luxembourg
Great ball from Gerrard to A. Cole but Cashley's ball in was woeful.
Is Cashley a good defender? I know he is good going forward but...
the gooner really should be thinking of getting his own laptop.
Who scored for the Leek Eaters?
Cotteril... I thought he was the Pompey manager!
cashley is a good defender but better getting forward. johnson is a poor defender who looks good going forward.
Bulgaria is the first match in the Euros? Berbatov vs Rooney!
You know - when I took my laptop in to the MacSolutions store here, I noticed a couple of smaller laptops, including a 13-inch version of the one that Eric has for a little over a grand. Not bad.
Useless free kick by Barry... I don't know what people see in him
Get. Rooney. Off!
this is the ref caught asking fabiano if he used his arm against nk.
I agree with the Gooner about Cashley. I don't like him personally but he's probably one of the best players England has.
Why?
He was your favorite before the Cup
Yeah - the same one. And he sent off Kaka in the same match for an innocuous challenge. It was against Ivory Coast though.
I really don't see it with Cashley. I just don't think he is very good
I've got no sacred cows. If a player is off form, he needs to be dropped.
I agree with that
Can you tell me what people see in Barry
Did you guys comment about my Lamps and Gerrard comment?
did any of the options from the under 21s give you much joy? apart from cleverboy?
You notice that when the ball came in from Theo there - and it was a good one into a dangerous area - there were no England players attacking it. That's why you need two real strikers up front. Roon isn't really a proper striker. We're essentially playing with seven midfielders and a wide man. No striker.
Not really... I don't see many coming down the pipeline
Stupid foul by Johnson
davy, i just am not sure that we can ever expect to see gerrard and lamps play well in the same squad.
I agree with you about Barry. And I'm not sure why we need a holding mid in this match. And of course I agree that Lamps and Gerrard can't play together. Gerrard's in better form - drop Lamps.
Luxembourg have tied it up in Wales
I wonder where they are playing that match
Cardiff City have a game at home tonight too.
The police won't have been pleased if it were in Cardiff too
I didn't say that Lamps and Gerrard not playing together. I say they both do play and take turns making the attacking run. The other team wouldn't know which player would be running in the box
In fairness I didn't get a chance to watch the U-21 match because I was following the magnificent 4-0 Leeds win over Lincoln City.
MUR seemed to be impressed by Jack Rodwell.
anyone else think that the magyar keeper looks like grampa simpson in those sweats?
Holland take the lead against Ukraine and then they are pegged back immediately
Well, then I don't agree with you. I can't remember the last time that Lamps played well for England (or scored!)
Definitely Grandpa Simpson in goal there. Well spotted Gooner.
I agree that Lamps is completely different playing in blue!
Another free kick chance for England. Make the most of it now!
England have done nothing from set pieces. Easy save there from Gerrard
Gerrard tries a pop and Grandpa Simps tips over.
How many changes do you think will be made at half time. The Prem managers won't be pleased with their big guns playing more than 45
my point is that neither gerrard or lamps has the positional discipline to fill the role you suggest. one or the other please.
Too many sacred cows in the England set up. There is a problem with all of these charity events and awards shows that portray six or eight of them as automatically on the team sheet. All the nicknames and such bugs me. After a WC like we just saw, it's depressing to see seven of them in the side again. Time to give the kids a chance.
I don't think Gerrard plays as well in white than he does in red either
gerrard and johnson for the full 90 please.
South Africa take the lead against Ghana
What nicknames are you talking about?
Agree with Gooner on that one. I'd drop James, Terry, Lamps, Barry, Heskey and Roon from the side that turned out in the summer. If Roon can find his form again with United, then he gets back into the squad.
Sounds good to me Steve
Lamps too
All the "Wazza," "Lamps," "JT," kind of nonsense. I know I do it too but it makes it seem as if they're all shoe-ins for the squad. They're celebrities rather than footballers.
England seem to have no creative ideas... SA all over again!
I agree with that
thinking the same thing davy. nothing new here. same tired tactics
It is all flat really. We should really be beating sides like Hungary 2 or 3-0. This is obviously a warm up for Bulgaria and it doesn't inspire confidence. Everything was going swimmingly for Fabio's England in the qualifiers (100% record). What happened?
Good afternoon everyone. I completely forgot about the friendlies.
Some booing going on... pass the ball out wide Mr. Walcott.... no nickname or first name used by me
Mr. Lampard sucks it up again
Hopeless corner by Mr. Johnson
Why wouldn't Mr. Cappello be displeased?
It's not just tactics. It's sheer laziness. I just think these big time Charlies understand that England doesn't pay their wages and that they're guaranteed a spot in the side due to their celebrity status. I'd like to see the lot of them replaced by some hungry kids like Rodwell, Cleverly and Wilshere.
Afternoon MUR... haven't missed much
LOL, Dave - nice one! You put a smile on my face for the first time since I started watching this dross.
Hiya, MUR! How are things in Texas?
Gary Lewin (the England physio) apparently wears the rubber gloves at all times. Must make him popular with the wife.
Surely Mr. Capello should keep Mr. Hart in goal for the whole match
No added time... thankfully!!!
Nil Nil
Very depressing!
Now Wazza (that's Mr. Rooney to you) is getting frustrated. Cue the rash tackle and yellow card being produced.
Half-time: 0-0. Well, that's 45 minutes I won't get back. Honestly, I've had more fun coding data.
Clemence and Psycho are trying to figure out how to clean up this mess. England look slow, predictable, and pedestrian. Fulop is making a real fashion statement with those gray sweatpants. I hear the booing.
At least Joe Hart has kept a clean sheet.
Do you think I could get away with teaching in those grey sweatpants? They look rather comfy.
Comments on the Sky panel:
Anchor: Anything to cheer about for Scottish fans in Sweden?
Pundit: Maybe the final whistle?
3-0 Sweden there.
For those who missed it
2047: HALF-TIME England 0-0 Hungary
Warm welcome on to the pitch, started brightly, petered out a touch, booed off at half-time. The first half in a nutshell for England.
Wales just scored a penalty
It's way too hot to wear this time of the year in Texas. That would be a good way to punish my students. Make them wear those sweatpants in gym outdoors.
and you wouldnt have to microwave your lunch with a roomy number like that,
N. Ireland are now two down in Montenegro
Bloody hell - Norn Ireland are 2-0 down in Montenegro! Shocking night for the home nations.
Not sure exactly what you mean by the microwave comemnt, Gooner but it sounds vaguely dirty so I approve.
its been in the 80s according to my parents so there just is no excuse for those sweats.
Definitely, MUR. The detention hall should be a "Cool Hand Luke" style hot box there in Harlingen.
too, too rude.
Ukraine and Holland have drawn
Scotland are 3-0 down to Sweden and The Republic of Ireland are 0-1 down at home to Argentina
trev francis in the studio wanting to know where the late run into the box from lamps has been.
also thinks gerrard is playing too deep.
el tel not happy with roon's attitude.
Yeah - DiMaria scored for the Argies. I do like the cut of that guy's jib.
Wales now 3-1 up against the part-time bankers from Luxemburg.
Bloody David Healey has come on for the Republic.
Sweden 3 Scotland 0 is now a final.
I thought David Healey played for Norn Ireland.
For once, I agree with El Tel. So what color is he today on an Albino to John Boehner scale?
Right you are, MUR. My mistake. I meant Norn Ireland. Still hate him. When he was with Leeds, he couldn't score for toffee and then scored hat-tricks in the green.
Bloody hell - it's Bobby Zamora time. Dawson, Ashley Young and Gibbs also on for the second half. Unfortunately, Rooney is still on.
Second half starting up. Are the natives still restless? I certainly am.
England have made four substitutions, bringing on Ashley Young, Bobby Zamora, Kieran Gibbs, and Michael Dawson. I would love to see the youngsters run rings around the established starters.
Norway and France scoreless at half
Wales go three one up
Germany double their lead through Helmes but Denmark get a goal back immediately.
el tel is matching the threat level: yellow.
I don't know why Rooney is still on
Hartlepool two up against the Blades.
Is Jeff Stelling in the studio?
Young providing some width on the left now. Cashley has gone off so Gibbs will be concentrating on defending. Young whips a dangerous ball over from the short corner and unfortunately John Carew doesn't play for England.
I never got a studio half time. I just got the normal Setanta music
I second that, MUR. I'd love to see some pressure exerted on the established England stars.
I didn't get any studio chatter either so I was watching the Gillette Soccer Special.
Norway and France are 0-0 at half time. I think this is the match that Laurent Blanc dropped the entire WC squad for.
Rudolf received a weird booking. The handball did not seem intentional. That is the most imaginative move of the match.
Why is Barry still on too
Hopeless attack from England
Young should have done better
Ashley Young again gets behind the defense. Good ball over but Zamora couldn't get on to it. And Roon was miles off the pace there.
You are right BD. Larry White, as he was known at OT, is sending a message to the French players.
Zamora takes ages to do something with the ball... this is very depressing
Another hopeless England attack with Gerrard ballooning over in the end.
I agree, UWS. Barry has been England's worst player. Surely time for Wilshere to shine.
Speaking of France... where is Patrice Evra? Is he hurt? He hasn't featured for United once this pre-season
I hope the England faithful boo Rooney off the pitch.
He'll yell something into the camera
J. Hernandez.... is that Chicharito?... has scored for Mexico against the World Champs after 12 minutes
The last move was better from England except for the intended pass to Adam Johnson. I agree with the above statements regarding Rooney.
Wasn't Evra one of the ringleaders of the insurrection this summer?
Must be Chicarito. Now, wouldn't you rather see him than Roon running out against Newcastle on Monday? Honestly...
What was the attendance?
I just turned on Univision to see if the Mexico Spain match is on... it is
72K England fans at Wembley tonight. They deserve better.
Oh dear - that tame backpass from Johnson sums up his evening. Time for the hook.
Evra was the captain and the bloke that started everything. How would that hurt his United career?
Kiraly dropped the cross. The announcer said he had one eye on Roon. What for?
Turkey score two late goals to beat Romania
i think "pull your finger out!" would be a more instructive banner
I almost want the Magyars to score here to shake up the England set-up.
I would like to see Chicharito start against the Magpies.
Me too
Denmark have tied it up against Germany with just 3 minutes to go
They were two down
Oh - knocked off the line. No - it is a goal.
England 0-1 down!
Off the line... no... given!!!!
Hungary have taken the lead!!
Where was this linesman and referee against Germany!!!
Was it over... I don't think so!!
How ironic!!
Dawson looked abject there. Completely missed the tackle. Ball went out to Gera who knocked the ball in and Jagielka will go down as the goalscorer.
Nowhere near over the line. But England deserve their bad luck.
Unbelievable!!!
Fire Mr. Capello and bring in Mr. O'Neill?
