Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Marvelous pictures, MUR - thanks for sharing. I'm glad that you had a great time watching your boys triumph. I'll be around tomorrow for more friendly action.

Enclosed are some photos of my trip to Reliant Stadium in Houston. I have never had and experience like this and I will never forget this night.Once I checked into my motel room I walked straight to the stadium in 95 degree heat along I-610. Two car dealers approached me, asking me about the match. One was a West Ham fan. Once I arrived at the stadium I saw a mixture of Man Yoo and Dynamo fans. It was about a 50-50 split. I did see two Liverpool jerseys, two gunners jerseys, a few Mexico jerseys, and one England jersey. The rest were Man Yoo and Houston.I sat at the bottom of the third tier of seats which was still about two hundred feet above pitch level.I was above the corner flag near the goal where Maceda scored twice. There were five tiers in total, so I was about halfway up. I could see the players. To my astonishment United scored right off the kickoff. I clocked the goal at twenty two seocnds. I did scream my head off and give the American fans lots of stick. They were talking trash and saying how the MLS Allstars were unbeaten and we would be beaten. They were stunned. Once it was 2-0 I screamed and said game over to the MLS fans. They claimed that they would come from behind and said you'll see. We did argue about the Giggs foul. I said the same as UWS. Giggs got all ball. The MLSers were whining that he used his studs to tackle. I said that the European refs would not call that a foul, just your refs. They had no response. I was concerned when Ching scored. UWS was spot on when he stated that Rafael gave him a free header. VDS agreed as he really gave him a long lecture. I don't know if the cameras caught that. The MLS fans did admit that United's passing and general play were of the highest quality. Cleverly scored a brilliant free kick and a showed awesome skill on the next goal. They MLS fans did admit that Cleverly's goals were brilliant. The ovation was for Hernanadez , not Wellbeck. It probably appeared that way since they came on at the same time. The Mexican fans went ballistic when he scored the fifth. The MLS fans claimed offside. I said let's watch the replay. They agree with me that he was level with the last defender. All in all a fantastic experience. when I was leaving the stadium some idiot screamed Chelsea, and about one hundred people yelled sucks. On the way back to the motel I ran into a pair of United fans from Cocoa Beach,FL.The following morning a met a couple from Manchester,England. We talked footie for about 45 minutes and about the match.I do sympathize with players who have to play in the heat and humidity. Ia arrived back at the motel drenched with my shirt stuck to my skin. I am not sure how players run in these conditions for 90 minutes if I was like this walking for only 20 minutes. I just wanted to share my experience with everyone. I realize that I am not a professional photographer.

Great job MUR... reminds me of my trip to watch United wallop Juventus!

Just two things, Cleverley didn't score two. The free kick was Gibson's goal... second, BD's comment about an ovation for Welbeck was complete tongue in cheek!

Any more pictures?

I have two more pictures. For some reason I was only able to post five pictures. I can't believe I forgot that Gibson scored the free kick, and such a brilliant free kick. I love the comment about him eating pies. I was explaining to one MLS fan that VDS is nearly 40, yet still putting in stellar performances for United. The idiot replied by asking if he's so good , why didn't he start for Holland. I replied by telling him that VDS retired from international football and probably would have started for Holland in the World Cup had he not retired. I used my cell phone to take pictures and ran out of memory.Next time I will bring the digital camera.

I watched Man United lose 2-3 to Chivas on streaming video ( all in Spanish).Hernandez played the first half for Chivas and the second half for us. Hernandez scored for Chivas, but not for us. Our goals were scored by Smalling and Nani. Man United looked tired in the second half. It was just 48 hours after the match in Houston. Krustczeak( spelling?) looks like he's been Gibson's pie eating partner this summer.

It's another one of those days of friendlies tomorrow. The action starts at 10 am EST with Leeds v. Wolves. Arsenal are at home to Milan in the Emirates Cup at 11:30 EST. That's live on GolTV. Then later on, we've got Inter v. Man City on FSC. I believe that's an 8 pm EST kickoff.
