Lexi is already bugging me!!
Could you have put up a new United shirt!
4th best attendance for ANY all-star sport in ANY sport!
A big shout out to ManUtdRules who I believe is in attendance tonight at the match in Houston. Hope it's a good one for you, mate!
Evening, Dave!
I hope United wallop them and I can stick it up Lexi's left nostril!!!
I have been watching Paul McCartney on PBS from the White House. I have enjoyed it
Lexi has always had a thing about the Premireship.
I was hoping you mugs would be here. Prepare to be boarded.
Evening Robert!
Wish I was there too!
I loved the two trips I made to watch United in NY. The second one was a day game against AC Milan that ended 1-1 and United lost on a penalty shoot out.
The first one was great.... night game against Juventus and we won 4-1
Lexi is a legend. He's such an MLS homer but he's a hero for not flinching at the sight of Julie Foudy's knashers.
Evening Steve
Here come the teams... shame that Berbatov isn't in the starting line up
Julie wants Landon to go to England
Lexi says it is just money... I HATE HIM
Quite a spectacle then, with trophy and confetti cannon awaiting the victors.
Back to PBS... lots of different bands playing Beatles and Wings songs
AND COMMERCIALS!
You really owe it to yourself to read the Wahl book about Beckham. You'll gain a new appreciation for Lexi and understand that he'd die for the MLS. I respect that.
Evening, Gooner!
I shall have to watch a bit of the Macca show on PBS.
Good shout about the Macca thing on PBS. Nice Beatles kit worn by Dave Grohl. Why not all the Foos, I wonder?
Turn to PBS right now... who is singing Band on the Run
By the way DAHLGRENS.... bottom of the Eastern Conference.... DC United AND NEW Revs!!!
Tell you what, I want that jacket that Macca's wearing. I'd rock that Nehru collar.
Oh dear - I checked in just in time for "Ebony and Ivory." Reminds me for the Joe Piscopo/Eddie Murphy routine on SNL with Piscopo as Sinatra vamping, "You are black and I am white/you are blind as a bat and I have sight...."
Nothing like shooting off fireworks indoors!!!
Away we go
So, the preliminaries over...United get us underway!
Dude, don't I know it. Have you watched DC United? Completely purposeless.
I can't believe that Onolfo is still the coach. Our GM was quoted today as being very supportive of him, but God knows why. You could take a random poll of any 10 fans and get a more competent set of tactics.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn. That was quick.
TWENTY-THREE SECONDS!!!
MUR MUST BE HAPPY!!
The Banana Split defender should be shot for that pass
All a bit too easy there are Macheda picks off a sloppy square ball and slots home.
1-0 Mancs!
Shalrie Joseph - the sole Rev rep tonight. I'm not sure he's worth a shout based on his play this year.
What a great attempt of a pass by Giggs... Nani should have gotten that
I think Shalrie is there for the same reason that Jaime is lurking on the bench: collective bargaining.
And now it's Ricketts pressing the self destruct. Macheda must think it's Christmas in July!
Marcheda should really have punished that clown behavior
My RedBulls are in second!
What's with the pastel blue MLS All-Star kit? It looks from a distance as if they're playing with warm-up pinnies on.
Marquez? Don't the MLS know how hard that guy has worked to be despised in the US. If he does go to the Red Balls, Cobi should be allowed to come out of retirement for one final shot.
"Your RedBulls," Dave? You never deign to watch them, do you?
#2 for Twin Comments
The first one was BEFORE the goal!
Don't like the kits? They're alright. If they had go with blue, better than Chelsea blue.
United are passing it really well!!
Fergie's hairdryer must have been working after the Wiz!
I don't want to hear them say they're an all-star team.... My mate, Lexi, said they should win!
TWO NIL!!!!!!!!
MACHEDA!!
Harkesy already preparing the groundwork for the MLS talking points after a heavy defeat.
Lovely stuff from my boy Nani and Olave nearly with a spectacular headed own goal. That would have been special.
Marcheda makes his second look easier than the first.
MUR.... YOU BETTER BEING SCREAMING YOUR HEAD OFF!
Look up Obertan... find a teammate!
Blimey, Macheda is helping himself to dessert tonight. Unbelievable defending from the "All-Stars."
I'm really looking forward to Lexi's half-time punditry now.
Giggs got all ball!!!
Giggs got all ball!!!
Nice shot by JPA... nice save by EVDS
Nice hit from Angel, taking advantage of a poor free kick call on Old Man Giggsy. The only bright spark so far tonight for the MLS.
Get up Nani... it is a friendly
Angel is pretty classy at this level. Combined with TH14, the league may get their wish this year.
I've never heard of this Alston character, but he really is a very poor player. No quality that I can see at all.
Alston started out at the Revs. He is hilariously bad. Not sure where he is now.
Uh-oh. Kevin Alton, Silver Spring MD native, currently plays for the Revvies
Just double-checked - he's still with us. No wonder we're crapping the bed this year.
Harkesy reckons that Obertan has been "impressive" on this tour; have you been impressed, Dave?
What's this about Shalrie leaving the game?
Too many step overs and no quality pass at the end
I am not that impressed.... although he has been better than he was last season
Agreed, Obertan not the finished article at all. Sad to see him injured nevertheless.
I saw Obertan bang into someone and he is done
Who did JPD say was coming in?
Cleverley coming on
Just looked up Shalrie. He "volunteered" for the MLS Drug rehab program which requires a 6 month commitment.
Maybe he and Santino Quaranta shared a room at Hazelton.
Haven't heard anything about Shalrie hanging up the boots, but I have to admit that the World Cup took me away from the Revvies this season. And they are shocking to watch these days.
I like Cleverboy. He reminds me of Jack Wilshere.
Hey Jude being sung at The White House
Nice cross by MLS... cleared
A ball almost came on the field before the corner
Second corner, cleared.... break on
United make the mistake of passing to O'Shea!
Was that a handball
Play it to his feet you idiot. Angel let down by whoever that was.
Who is out on the right for the MLS. He needs shooting.
MLS starting to get some possession
JPA should be used to losing to United during his Villa days
SAF is playing for Watford again!!!
Nani kicked on the outside of his knee
I hope he is okay
That's Jaime Morales out wide right for the MLS, no?
I know that wasn't what SAF said to Nani, but I'd like to know what he did say.
Nani got a tap. It was the way he caught his tread in the pitch that was the problem. SAF looks put out with him anyway.
What is a Spurs fan doing there!!
I hope MUR ISN'T doing the wave!
I think it was Pappa that was the object of my derision out on the right. Two consecutive terrible plays. Morales is no better tbf.
I think Gareth Bale escaped from his enclosure. It's a zookeeper in a disguise.
To be fair to my boy Nani the turf looks really patching as if they just assembled it before kickoff.
oooh, offside! Macehda almost in for the hat-trick!
I think it is new turf... the NFL field I think is fake
Bale has impressed me this summer
The Dynamo play there, no?
I wouldn't think so... it is too big
This isn't the usual Houston Dynamo stadium, is it? Aren't they something like Dick's Sporting Goods? Or the Jolly Rancher Bowl?
Twin Comment #3
I think it is!!
I got the Jolly Ranger Bowl comment Bob... Steve, do you fell left out!
Robertson Stadium
I actually just saw that today when I was Google Earthing Reliant Stadium
ooh, Fletch off the bar!!
You know your stadia. Reliant is used for NFL and... Rodeo! Neither of which is kind to grass.
Off the bar!!
I'm above that sort of thing.
Celtic were beaten 3-0 away to Braga in the Qualifying Round of the Champions League tonight! YIKES!!
That header was close
Brian Ching, who cuts your hair?
I do like the MLS All-Star idea of playing club teams
Half time!!
Very satisfying from United... please continue!
Easy, easy, easy. Half time and the score is Men-2, Boys-Nil.
McCartney has left The White House... he is an arena
Bring on the Lexi excuses! 2-0 at the half.
United still take on Chivas of Mexico on Friday night before they head home to take on Chelski for the Shield!
Weakest link comments from Lexi
I know you said that Lexi is passionate about MLS but why is he so anti-English?
Did he get ignored by some teams in his playing days?
What is a designated player?
Did you see that Mark Hughes has accepted an offer to manage Fulham
I think they are wrong... the players are passed their peak when coming to MLS.... stop fooling yourselves!
Liverpool, I can't really call them Costa anymore, have left behind Gerrard, Carra, Johnson and Cole from their Europa League tie
Torres, Reina and Kuyt still haven't returned to pre-season training... could they not qualify for Europe completely??
The Designated Player rule, adopted by MLS in 2007 to accommodate David Beckham, allows MLS teams to do an end-run around the salary cap, which is currently $2.55 million/team.
It's complicated but basically a portion of the designated player's salary is added to the salary cap (around 300K, I think) and is paid by the league and the team plays the rest of it. Each team gets up to two designated player spots and then has to pay a $250K luxury tax for a third one.
Oh - the current ones are
* Goldenballs (Galaxy)
* Landycakes (Galaxy)
* TH-14 (RedBalls)
* Angel (RedBalls)
* Ljungberg (Seattle)
* Nery Castillo (Chicago)
* Boskovic (DC)
* Nkufo (Seattle)
* Guzman (Toronto)
* Mista (Toronto)
Dynamo Ching is on
Do you think he should have been in SA?
We're off
Damn.... United didn't score after 23 seconds
Thanks Encyclopedia Bob
I'm back. I hope they repeat the Macca show. I caught Stevie Wonder and Jack White. And an actually funny Jerry Seinfeld.
Ching was spending time with the Yanomami in the Amazon apparently. That's the only way I can account for that haircut.
VDS having a cup of tea while he collected that header to be fair.
So all change at the beginning of the half. Btw, I agree with you that MLS is still basically recruiting aging stars from Europe. The difference from NASL is that the gimmicks are gone and the home-grown players are much better so the foundation is there.
Yes, Harkesy, Marshall connected, but there was no placement on that header.
I agree Bob. The MLS has established enough of a presence that they can afford a few aging stars. I think the MLS is smart enough not to go overboard with it. There is a point where it could dilute the league but we're nowhere near it and these guys do attract fans to the games.
I can't believe that gingernut was ready to leave the Revs and NO-ONE at DC United was in for him. I'd have loved to have him aboard this season.
I wouldn't mind an aging Irish star at the Revvies. That would seem a no brainer given our demo. For a while, there were Keano rumors but nothing yet.
A bit nasty there from Evans. That's uncalled for in a friendly, eh?
I am back... I had to clear my computer. My buddy was looking what was up with my skype camera.
It works!
Evans couldn't have hurt him bringing him down. I'm ok with that. Yellow is fair.
I agree with you Bob about the gimmicks
I saw the Seinfeld bit.... She was just seventeen, you know what I mean....
You can have Larentowicz, mate. He's a donkey.
Larentowicz in the MLS is a necessity. We've got Morsink doing what he does and that's no comparison. I've admired gingernut for years because he destroys well in the midfield.
Hernandez about to make his debut!!
Rafa with a great move but weak shot!
Ayeyiyiyiyiyi! Here's comes Chicarito!
Javier Hernandez ready to come on.
Does Raf have nits?
I forgot to mention Twin Comment #4
Here come Hernandez... he has some stupid name on his shirt!
Chicharito coming on... looks like tears in his eyes
Welbeck on too
Huge ovation there for the entrance of Danny Welbeck - I wonder why?
Bugger... 2-1
Bloody Ching
MLS coming back now. The Yanomami-boy with the header.
Great start Chicarito!!
United are napping and Ching the Statue could hardly miss with the header. Good ball in from Ferreira tbf.
Is Hernandez going to have that silly name on his shirt all year or is this for the Mexicans in the house?
Hernandez whiffs with his first touch!
Silly name all year :(
That twin totally lost Ching for that goal.
oooh, He almost scored!!
Are there twins on the field?
I refuse to call him that. I'd love it if the commentators did too.
They might continue to call him Hernandez. That muppet at Brum had Chucho on his shirt and I don't remember them calling him that.
At least one twin is. He looked really impressed with Ching's header.
I hope so too
Hernandex goes down. Could he have stayed up
Free kick
ARod is coming up to bat to hit his 600th HR...they better not go to it!!
YES!!!
GREAT FREE KICK BY GIBSON!!!
He usually powers it..... not this time
Brilliant!
Gibson! Best goal yet. Really good shot. He only had to beat Nick the wonder midget, but I don't think there's a keeper here that could have got to that.
Great free kick there by Gibson, who looks as if he'd had a few pies this summer. 3-1 United.
Fabio... a twin... is the same age as his brother but looks hurt
Scholes about to come on
Scholes on for Fabio... O'Shea moves back
Did you know... Paul Scholes scores goals!!
Shut up about England!!! WE KNOW!
YES!!!
GREAT GOAL BY CLEVERLEY!!!!!
Oh - that was a bit special from Cleverly. 4-1 United!
Cleverboy thinks he's Gazza!!!!
What a flick and then finish. Special stuff Davey.
ARE YOU SINGING MUR!!!!
Great response from United after the Ching goal
Great reception for Landon.... I think deserved
Scholey, sharpen your studs on De-Ro's tibia please.
That was a Gazza move!!
Very pleased with this performance.... this team, even without any signings, will be good!1
How bizarre was that!!
Horrible clearance and it hits the crossbar after almost hitting the roof
Come on Hernandez... get a goal
Where has Valencia been for United?
Was he in the World Cup?
I don't think he did... is he hurt?
We should go see that game Bob in NYC
I don't remember Valencia in the WC. He must be recovering.
He is Ecuadorian... they weren't in SA
That's what I was wondering? No - Valencia is Ecuadoran. They didn't come close to qualifying. Is he injured?
Never a foul
Hmmm, thought he was Honduran. Well, I still bet he's injured.
Which game, Davey? I missed that.
USA BRAZIL
Why did Landon play last night?
YES!!!
HERNANDEZ!!! COOL FINISH!!
I AM LOVING IT!!!
HOW DO YOU FEEL MUR????
Chicharito! 5-1 - and Fergie likes it!
I thought his run was great!
See that? That's what gingernut does and well. You need that kind of player in this league.
Stylish from Hernandez. Good stuff. And it gets the crowd going. Ah, knock that pointing to the sky crap off please.
I think Harkesy might be right. Could have been offside.
He was involved in some silly CONCACAF Champions League match with the PR Hat Twirlers or some such.
I AM LOVING THIS... GOT ANY CROW LEXI!!!!
I agree about pointing to the sky!!
ALMOST SIX!!
Are we going to see the Undefeated Graphic against European teams!
Cleverley looks good... I don't want him to go anywhere on loan this season... Scholes Mach 2
I don't know what Harkes is talking about. The All-Stars aren't a team and don't play like a team.
United's results against MLS teams are more to the point. This is like the Globetrotters getting done over by the Lakers.
Damn
5-2... where was the defense?
DeRosario is gifted one by the Orange one and he scores a consolation goal. 5-2 United.
Ah crap! De-Ro gets the goal. What a dick he is. Too bad.
Scholes with the foul... he wanted a yellow!
Struth... almost another one!
They are playing with the Jabulani ball... United haven't had any problems here!
MLS have been their most dangerous in stoppage time!
That should be it... and it is
LOVELY JUBBLEY!!!
Hope you had a great time MUR... send us some pictures!!
Well done United!!
5-2. That was fun chaps. See you later.
That's full time then, but wait a minute. This is always my favorite part of All-Star night. Watching some bemused English footballers as they notice the confetti cannons being rolled out with the trophy.
Take care everyone!
I had fun
Great job MUR...you're good luck!!!
TTFN
UWS
Cheerio, Dave!
