The Big Freeze!
Old Man Winter has played havoc with the weekend's footer action alas. Man United's visit to Blackpool has been called off due to Bloomfield Road's lack of undersoil heating and the entire SPL schedule has been abandoned! Still, take heart, lads, there are still a number of interesting matches at the usual 3pm GMT (10amEST) kick-off time, so have a lie-in and join me for the action then.

Morning chaps, I'm having breakfast with Jeff Stelling and the boys. Here's the link for Soccer Saturday:
http://veetle.com/index.php/channel/view#4cf9e5f95e814
The Tractor Roys and the Swans are currently locked in a 0-0 draw.
Interesting interview with Wally Downs on SS there. He was brought in as a defensive coordinator after the Liverpool result. He's got a 2-0 record at present, so he looks to be the signing of the season.
Morning Bob
Two matches on TV today both involving a top 3 team
Arsenal's match with Fulham is on FSC while Chelsea's matche with Fulham is on ESPN2... Let's hope they both slip up and United keep top spot while toasting their tootsies by the fire!
I would have missed the United match because Matthew has a track meet this afternoon. He has never done track before but he wanted to keep in shape for the footer!
Thanks for the great link
Andros Townsend heads home to give Ipswich a 1-0 lead against Swansea.
Morning, Dave! Good to have you on board for a bit. When's the track event?
Which match will you be watching at 10?
Nice little feature on American international Stuart Holden, who's bossing the Bolton midfield these days.
Leeds host Crystal Palace at home. Palace are currently languishing in the relegation zone. I'm hoping to heap the misery on them this afternoon.
Swansea are level with Craig Beattie on target.
The meet isn't until after the footer. It would have been during the United match. I think I will miss the end of the 10 o'clockers taking him to the high school
I will definitely be switching between both of the matches. Luckily with having a DVR, I can go back to the match I am not watching and rewind to see any goals. I will probably be on ESPN because they are LIVE! I will have SS on as well of course
Oh Dear... the Swans have taken the lead with 20 to go
Oh dear - Swansea have turned it around at Portman Road. They're 2-1 up through a fellow named Joe Allen.
Ipswich down in the bottom half now, promotion looking a distant hope.
Off for a walk... I'll be back
Interesting. Mario Balotelli, who lit up Citeh's Europa League fixture in mid-week with a brace, had a bust up in the camp with Jerome Boateng. He is a bad boy.
Huge turning point at Portman. Ipswich had a penalty shout turned down by Andy Durso and then Swansea went back down the pitch and scored through Craig Beattie again. 1-3 Swans!
Keano might just have a few sharp words with Durso after the match, eh?
I am back for a tick... what a shame about Ipswich
Full time
Ipswich 1 Swansea 3
Full time at Portman Road and Roy Keane will be seething after a 1-3 loss.
Big Nose and the Merse having a bit of a spat over the Scousesox now, Big Nose telling Merse to "behave."
I'll take a lovely 3-0 win today. It's time that we start making up the goal difference, especially in front of the home support.
Right - we've got the yellow balls out and we're ready to kick off at the Emirates. I'm watching Arsenal v. Fulham.
Come on, you Whites!
Way hay - we've just kicked off and immediately jump up to 7th because of all the postponed matches. Undersoil heating wins again!
Everton go close early on with Louis Saha's strike turned away from goal by Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Lots of early possession by the Gunners; that's the early pattern.
A bit of confusion from Chris Kamara but it's a goal for Citeh nonetheless and it's my Golden Boot boy Carlos Tevez on the scoresheet. His 10th of the season, one shy of Dracula. Get your hat-trick, lad!
Big Nose is constantly interrupted by Merse. He's losing his mind about the Blackburn v. Wolves match.
Oh - Arshavin with a point blank volley straight at Schwarzer. They're wondering why Schwarzer wasn't signed in the summer now.
Mario Balotelli's effort is blocked. Manchester City lead 1-0 and they are putting Bolton under plenty of pressure.
"Leeds have made a good, lively start" according to the SS reporter. We've had the ball in the net but disallowed for offside.
Penalty shout for Chelski - not given, and "rightly so" according to Charlie Nicholas.
Goal at the big match between Derby and Norwich. It's the Canaries on top early. 0-1 Norwich.
GOAL! Samir Nasri completely making fools of the Fulham defenders there. They won't like that. That looked like one of those we used to do back in school where we'd get down on the ground and nod it in. Arshavin played him in well.
1-0 Arse!
I am back... nice goal by Nasri as I walk in
TH-14 in the stands - shouldn't he be in NYC?
Welcome back, mate. Nice move again and Arshavin was nearly in there.
0-2 Norwich. Chris Martin with the second. Wow!
Arsenal are murdering Fulham now. Chamakh was nearly in there. Just offside.
Any other goals.. I see that Citeh have scored
Norwich are two up at Derby!!
John Eustace turns home a corner to give Watford the lead against Leicester in the Championship.
No goals at St Andrews. I see that this is the game that FSC is showing instead of the United game
Carlos! Carlos Tevez! King of the wild frontier!
Robert Huth with a 40 yard deflected shot. Stoke 0-1 up at Wigan.
Stoke take the lead at Wigan
Derby get a quick goal back
Derby are back in it. 1-2 now. What a fizzer at Pride Park. Wish I was there!
There's a goal for Big Nose... to Spurs
Bassong has fired Spurs into the lead. Sounds like a bad mistake by Ben Foster.
Martin Petrov nearly pulls Bolton level against his former club Manchester City as his free-kick is deflected narrowly wide.
Argybargy between Nasri and Dempsey there.
Bloody hell - there's one match on in the Scottish Division 2! At Alloa! I wonder how cold it is there?
Malouda was a little slappy there
What's going on in the UK? It's colder there than here in Western NY!
No cards for Malouda and the Little Neviller?
All the work that Alloa did to get this match on...they're losing
Oh - nearly an own goal there just saved by Schwarzer. He's keeping Fulham in it.
ooh, Terry has two shots on goal from a corner. First one blocked. Second hits the bar!
Criticism for Lennon is the final ball... is that the most important thing for a winger!
SS behind the Chelsea match
End to end stuff at the Emirates. It's as if there are no defenders on the pitch. Both sides are slicing through each other like a hot knife through soft butter.
That's always been the criticism of Aaron. He's a speed merchant so he terrorizes defenders and often gets to the by-line but he's been working on his crossing. I think he's gotten better at that side of his game.
Lovely jubbly. PNE have taken the lead improbably against evil Cardiff.
Lovely
Cardiff are losing to Preston
Merse finally has a goal and it's gone to Blackburn.
Blackburn take the lead at home against Wolves
Wigan equalize against Stoke
Stuth... Fulham equalize! Well made by Clnt!
GOAL! Fulham have equalized, as they had threatened to do. Dempsey played a lovely dinked ball through and Fulham striker Kamara took advantage of a nasty clash of heads between Koscielny and Squillaci to slot home.
Stoke are back up
Looks like Koscielny won't be able to continue. Not good news for the Gunners. Djourou to take over.
Song hacks Kamara and Sparky isn't happy with it.
Drogba is down hurt... is he faking?
It was a big stretch there... I think he'll be okay
So far, so good for you lot - Chelski and Arsenal both drawing and have both lost players. Drogs has just gone off with a grain stroin.
ooh Cahill had a chance there but his flick went the wrong way
We need a goal! We need a goal. Eeee aayyyy addio - we need a goal!
"Loads of chances" at Elland Road according to the SS reporter, but still no goals.
Neville puts a horrible pass back... could Howard have done anything???
Penalty
Drogba to take.. one nil... bugger
Penalty for Chelski - yellow card for Timmy - might have been red!
Drogs to take...straight down the middle!
2-2 at the DW
Blimey - that's a right old ding dong.
What the hell was Neville doing?
Do you think it was a penalty?
Anelka's flick around Howard was wayward and then ran into him
I didn't see the incident, to be fair.
Blackburn are two up
Bloody hell - Palace have scored!
Bugger
Leeds are now losing!
ooh, Arsenal almost fell behind too. Camera should have done better!
Our home support deserves better, especially in this weather. That's the 20th goal we've conceded at home this season, the worst record bar PNE.
Half time at the Bridge... bummer!
Bugger - Tevez has had one disallowed, a penalty shout called off and two chances missed. I want him to score five today!
half time at the Em... 1-1
Half time at the Emirates. I'm off to wash some dishes.
Right - time for the second half resurgence. Come on, you Whites!
I am back from another errand.. miss anything?
The numpties at FSC are still running a promotional crawl for the Blackpool v. United match at 12:30. The match is off, you Muppets!
Not a lot, mate. Not a lot.
Saha has come off worse in a challenge with Ivanovic. Could have to come off.
The reporter is anticipating "a Leeds onslaught" in the second half. Hope so.
What is going on with Chris Kamara today? Everytime they come to him, he's unprepared. Is he doing his Christmas shopping online while the match is on?
Oh - Rosicky with a neat volley that skims just wide.
Leicester are back in it at Vicarage Road. 2-1 Watford.
Blackburn stick a third goal in against hapless Wolves. They're just about relegated, I reckon.
They're are muppets at FSC!
Again, the Spurs match it going to be shown
Wolves are three up
Ryan Shawcross has just elbowed someone in the head, leading to plenty of boos from the Wigan fans.
JB is on for the Toffees... the commentator had to mention his OT goal!! Shut it
Oh - great save from Schwarzer from Arshavin. Why isn't he the Arsenal keeper?
Everton have plenty of possession!
Beckford tried a shot from 50 yards out!
Well - he hasn't scored a lot recently. I'd like to see that goal again, to be fair.
High wide an orrible
I just looked at my watch... it's Leeds Time
Ross McCormack has come on for Max Gradel.
Thank you, mate!
BLOODY HELL.. off the inside post but it doesn't go in from Rodwell!!
BUGGER
JB has missed some sitters too... and no.. we don't need to see THAT goal again
SS about to go to Elland Road before Charlie started shouting.
Back to Elland Road...bugger. Palace are apparently playing really well.
COME ON!
It is all Everton!
Jags goes just wide with a header
It's RVP time at the Emirates. Big reputation, not a lot of goals.
Rosicky trotting off.
Sounds like Everton are really on top at the Bridge.
Does anyone know the result from the midweek Cup match at Upton Park? Cheers.
I believe that that one ended West Ham 4 United 0, WHR. Well done, the Hammers!
Really?????? Way-hay!
Twenty five minutes left at Elland Road. We need a goal!
Way hay indeed. Will you be around for the Hammers match tomorrow morning? That's the key one. Some points off Sunderland and you'll be back in it.
25,000 at ER... very impressive
The Elland Road faithful are getting restless according to Jeff.
It is a good crowd - they deserve to see a win.
Cahill challenges Cech... Terry isn't pleased
Cech looks hurt
What time is the Hammers match? I'm supposed to sell Xmas trees from 10 to noon at Kat's elementary school.
Terry and Cahill are having some handbags now because of the Aussie's challenge on Cech. Oh - that was nasty. Studs right into the head.
Looks like he got caught in the eye with a boot
It's on at 11am EST, WHR. Hope you've got time to watch it on FSC.
Play has still not restarted with the Cech injury
Lloyd Sam is on now for Bradley Johnson. Bradley's been making all the news this week and for the wrong reasons. He's been yacking about how he wants to go to "a bigger club" in the January window. Bugger off!
Cech is going to continue
Great goal again by Nasri
GOAL! It's Nasri again with a flash of brilliance. He danced through the Fulham defense and then contrived to run around the ball and dink it in from an acute angle.
2-1!
Everything was going peachy for me until now!
More chances stacking up at Elland Road but still 0-1. We've got 15 minutes to dig this one out. I'd take a draw now.
As of now, all the top five are winning except United... not a good day
All the big sides are winning now.
West Ham are off the foot of the table now because of Wolves' inferior GD. More way hay from WHR.
Citeh are down to ten... come on Bolton
Chamakh turns well but his shot is horribly wide. Nasri seems to be the only Arsenal player who's scoring these days.
Manchester City are now down to 10 men against Bolton with Aleksandar Kolarov dismissed after picking up his second booking. It was a late challenge from the defender.
Birmingham have tied it up against Spurs
GOAL! Brum have equalized. Are you dancing in Glenville?
Bloody hell - RVP has a nosebleed now. Is there any more fragile player?
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
Becchio - what a hero! Nods home after a corner scramble.
1-1 Game on! Now win it!
LEEDS HAVE TIED IT UP!!!
AND SO HAVE EVERTON!!!!
JB!!!!!!!!
That's Luciano's 10th goal of the season - our top scorer by some chalk now.
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
BECCCHIOOOOOOOO!!!!!
2-1!
NOW I AM DANCING!!
COME ON FULHAM!
LEEDS SCORE AGAIN!!!
What a great minute for the LEEDS UNITED! Good old JB!
The question is... are you dancing in Fredonia?
We're back into the play-off spots on the strength of Becchio's 11th goal of the season. Now hang on to it.
IN the 87th minute and i have to go
I'll be back.. fingers crossed
Yes, indeed. The Leeds United Calypso in full effect.
Chelski are well off the boil since Ray Wilkins left the club unceremoniously. Arsenal on top now, United second, Chelski third, Citeh fourth.
Just about into stoppage time now at Elland Road. Blow up, referee!
Oh - a bit of handbags between Tevez and Mancini. Tevez pulled off and he went straight up into Mancini's face and the gaffer pushed him. Extraodinary!
PNE seem to be eking out an improbable away win at Cardiff.
Sparky's chattering away now, but about what? No idea.
Everton are finishing the stronger of the two sides, unbelievably.
Wolves are bottom after losing 3-0 at Blackburn.
Arsenal finish at 2-1 and are top of the heap at least for now.
Brum have pulled out a draw against Spurs that will help Citeh's causes.
Cardiff have just about pulled it out. 1-1 and they've saved a point. PNE still bottom of the Championship.
YES! We've finished at 2-1! 6th in the table now on 32 points. 18 points to safety. That seems definitely doable.
I'm off for a celebratory shower now and then need to clean the dump ahead of a dinner party tonight. Chat with you lot tomorrow.
Cheers!
Well done mate
Sorry I was sporadic today!
Bloody Parenting!
UWS
Well done, Leeds! I'll try to make if tor the second half tomorrow.
Sorry I could not join you today, had to take my son swimming.
I'll take that point for the Toffees and rescind my comments about Beckford from last week. If today's clutch goal does not give him confidence to play at this level nothing will!
Hiya, lads - I'm back on Sunday morning to follow the morning's footer before I have to run over to campus.
West Brom are currently a goal to the good at the Hawthorns against Newcastle. Tchoyi with the goal.
It's looking very tight at the top of the league this morning:
1. Arsenal - Played 16 +16GD 32 pts
2. United - Played 15 +19GD 31 pts
3. Chelski - Played 16 +19GD 30 pts
4. Citeh - Played 16 +9GD 29 pts
5. Spurs - Played 16 +3GD 26 pts
The top scorers in the Premiership:
1. Berbatov - 11
2. Tevez - 10
3. Carroll - 9
4. Cahill - 8
5. Elmander - 8
6. Nasri - 8
7. Chamakh - 7
8. Drogba - 7
9. Malouda - 7
10. Nolan - 7
Peter Odemwinge has added a second goal for the Baggies. They're just about home and hosed now. WBA now move into 7th and Newcastle drop into the bottom half again.
The Baggies still lead 2-0 in the 86th minute.
Peter Odemwingie just added a second, and the Baggies now lead 3-0.
Newcastle score a consolation goal through Peter Lovenkrands as Andy Caroll chested down a cross and Carson saved his shot. Lovenkrands shot home the rebound from close range. Andy Carroll might have used his arm.
The match is over and The Baggies defeat the Magpies 3-1.
Two late goals in that match at the Hawthorns. Odemwinge, WBA's leading scorer this season, has added a second and Peter Lovenkrands scored a consolation goal for the Toon. 3-1 at the end. I have a feeling that this will be the pattern for Newcastle this season with useful wins followed by disappointments. They'll do enough to stay up, though.
Now on to the late match - resurgent West Ham traveling to Sunderland in desperate need of points.
Here's what the bottom of the Prem looks like before kickoff:
15. Everton - Played 16 17 pts
16. Villa - Played 15 17 pts
17. Fulham - Played 16 15 pts
18. Wigan - Played 16 15 pts
19. West Ham - Played 15 12 pts
20. Wolves - PLayed 16 12 pts
Thus, a win for the Hammers today, would put them level on points, but with inferior GD, with both Wigan and Fulham. Sunderland are currently safe in mid-table on 20 points.
Morning, MUR! I missed you popping on while I was watching Sunday Morning. Good to have you around for the late match. How are things in Harlingen?
As of 3:30 GMT, the match at the Stadium of Light is still in the balance. There has been atrocious weather in the Northeast all week and the match may be called off just to protect the punters rather than because of a frozen pitch. Stay tuned....
Ten minutes from kick-off and it looks as if we're on. Here are the line-ups:
Sunderland: Gordon, Onuoha, Mensah, Ferdinand, Bardsley, Henderson, Cattermole, Richardson, Welbeck, Bent, Gyan. Subs: Mignolet, Zenden, Malbranque, Angeleri, Da Silva, Riveros, Elmohamady.
West Ham: Green, Gabbidon, Tomkins, Upson, Ben-Haim, Dyer,
Parker, Spector, Boa Morte, Obinna, Cole. Subs: Reid, Barrera,
Kovac, Faubert, Hines, Spence, Piquionne.
Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire)
A brilliant line from Tom Lutz's minute-by-minute on The Guardian:
"I had a dream last night I was cleaning weed from a pond. The dull, repetitive task went on for about 90 minutes. Then I woke up and found out I was doing a minute-by-minute on Sunderland v West Ham. I'm not sure if it was prophetic or not."
Let's hope it's not prophetic.
The Stadium of Light looks marvelous, but it looks like a sparse crowd. I don't blame them. It must be freezing!
The home side about to get us started at the Stadium of Light.
Danny Welbeck has started out wide left. He's been in terrific form recently, so it'll be intriguing to watch him today. Will Fergie want him back after his loan spell is over?
Mid-week hero Jonathan Spector seems to be back to his role as right back. Shame - he had some freedom against United to roam and it paid dividends.
Sicknote Kieran Dyer is making a rare cameo for the Hammers today.
Good away support today if the "Blowing Bubbles" sing-song is any evidence.
