FA Cup preview
This may come as a shock to a few of you but it turns out Arsenal have been drawn against Leeds United in the FA Cup. I didn't know they still had a team after they folded back in the 2000's sometime. It turns out not only do they have a team but they are still in the FA Cup having qualified through the qualifying prelims and then somehow getting through the first 2 rounds as well. I have no idea how this happened but good luck to this bunch of plucky pluckyers.
They played Arsenal once before and only once. This was it.
The side that bought you Nasty Norman Hunter, Peter Punisher Lorimer, Johnny "not really Irish" Giles and Eddie Evil Gray takes on a beautiful team at the Emirates this Saturday.
As a caution Arsenal aren't risking anyone you have ever heard of due to Leeds reputation as horrible legbreakers.
Only last week a Leeds fan was defending the maulers of Birmingham. Once Leeds, always Leeds.

Bob . . . Please post the 1980 Cup Final . . .
Thanks for the preview, Simon. We are the Unforgiven - we are Leeds.
Now, can you have a word with Arsene about playing the kids tomorrow....?
I seem to remember a certain Leeds win at Highbury on a Sunday afternoon that won the league for United... post that please Bob!
The above comments remind of why I always look forward to the third round of the FA Cup. I am really looking forward to the tie between Leeds and Arsenal. I hear fighting talk between Simon and Bob.I believe the result was 2-3 to Leeds in 2003 when Harry Kewell dribbled the length of the pitch before unleashing an unstoppable rocket from a difficult angle that ended up in the top corner. I remember that match,UWS. It was an excellent match. I agree,WHR. The foul by Willie Young on Paul Allen was a disgrace and ruined what would have been one of the best solo goals in FA Cup Final history.

I just watched the video from Youtube and believe that the Cup tie will be much closer than the last EPL meeting between the sides. Arsenal are no longer the invincibles and no longer have Henry.I expect a much more competitive match than would the league positions suggest.
Who dared say we don't Henry anymore? He spends most of his time in the crowd now and plus we have eboue out there and he is twice the player Henry was :)
9 changes Bob. Best I could do at short notice.
As I stated, it has been much more competitive than the last EPL meeting. It is 0-0 at halftime from the EM as Leeds have defended gallantly. There have been two clearances off the line, one particularly from Howson off the corner that kept the score level and two big saves from Schmeichel.
Some Arsenal players have failed to show up as Wenger will not be pleased with some of the individual performances. Becchio Gradel,Bruce, Schmeichel, and former Arsenal youth team player, Sanchez Watt have had an impressive first half.
GOAL!!! 0-1 to Leeds at The EM.
Snodgrass scores from the penalty spot as Denilson fouled Gradel in the box after a great counter by Sanchez Watt.
You guys have to be falling over yourselves right now!
Good morning Someone. This could be away wins against Manchester United and Arsenal in consecutive seasons as Cesc is on for Song in an attempt to salvage something from this match.
Nearly 0-2 to Leeds as Czescny makes a save from point blank range off a header from a corner.
Theo is on for Chamakh.
Snodgrass nearly added a second as he took a free kick that went just wide after a foul by Djourou.
Leigh Bromby is on for Sanchez Watt.
Andy O'Brien is booked for a foul on Cesc from behind as the Gunner attempted to counter.
Carlos Vela is on for Rosicky and Denilson is booked for a foul on Bradley Johnson.
Becchio is replaced by Davide Somma.
GOAL 1-1 AS cESC SCORES FROM THE PENALTY SPOT AS THE TEAMS LOOK DESTINED FOR A REPLAY AT eLLAND rOAD.
Ben Parker tugged Theo's jersey in the box.
Andy Hughes is on for Gradel as there will be four minutes of stoppage time.
There had been two close calls a minute before the penalty as Theo failed to score with just the keeper to beat, then Bruce appeared to foul Theo in the box, but Big Nik was flagged offside.
I'm at work following along here and on the BBC page. Sounds dramatic.
The match finishes 1-1 as there will be a replay at Elland Road as Leeds were minutes away from an upset. The Gunners had several chances to win in stoppage time as Big Nik missed to chances and Schmeichel made a superb save from Denilson. Theo shot into the side netting as well.
Good game, for the most part 1-way traffic and I thought Dowd had screwed us with the penalty that was then wasnt.
Oh well, back to Elland Road - we wont be playing Nick again i hope.
Brum is winning 0-3 at Millwall as the Championship side just missed a penalty. Matt Derbyshire scored twice and David Murphy chipped in with a goal for the Blues.
They were both penalties Simon. Denilson obviously tripped Gradel in the box as it was really poor defending on his part. It was an easy decision and a poor Arsenal performance for a good part of the match. Wenger will not be pleased by the performance.
Birmingham have now extended the lead at Millwall to 0-4 as Camerone Jerome scored for the Blues.
A quick start for Villa as Kyle walker puts Villa ahead on his debut as he just signed from Spurs. He did not celebrate against the Blades as he started with them as a youth team player.
A great solo goal that highlights why the Blades are struggling in the Championship as Micky Adams has taken over from the recently departed Gary Speed.
Wenger will be disappointed with Nick (how does he justify his ego?) and some of the crosses in I'd say but otherwise not too unhappy. I'd make the same 11 - minus Nick play at Elland Road to redeem themselves.. or sink. The keeper did well for us (I'll never be able to spell his name). Leeds at home will be a tough prospect for some of those who hid today.
Saha with another early goal as Everton lead Scunthorpe 1-0
There are more FA Cup goals as Burnley have taken the lead against Port Vale, Huddersfiled have taken the lead against Dover, Everton have taken the lead at Scunny ,and Notts County have a shock lead at Sunderland.
I would drop Arshavin as well as he had a shocking game to the point that the Gunners fans were shouting profanity to him at the end of the match.
Huddersfield now lead Dover 2-0 and Cardiff have taken the lead at Stoke.
They always shout at Andrei... he had some good moments amongst the horrors. He has to come off after 70 in my view, never fit enough. Did send Theo through with a beautiful lofted pass near the end.
Nicky B though = Black Hole.
I agree. Nick's finishing was horrible. I am sure Bob will be pleased with the result. The last thing Arsenal needs is a replay as they are involved in the EPL, Carlin Cup, FA Cup, and CL. The last thing they need is an extra match in already congested list of fixtures.
I will be interested in Bob and Steve's opinions of this match.
Port Vale have tied it up at Burnley and Coventry take the lead against Palace. Aberdeen lead East Fife 2-0 in the Scottish Cup.

There appears to be a giant killing at Southampton, Someone. Everton is holding on to a one goal lead at Scunny.
I looked at Blackpool's lineup before the match and had a feeling.
Coleman restores Everton's two goal lead. Now 3-1!
Fulham now lead Posh 3-0 and Stephen Hunt had tied it up for Wolves at Doncaster as it is 2-2.
Gary O'Neill has given Middlesbrough the lead at Burton Albion.
Wednesday extend their lead at Bristol City yo 0-3 and Fulham extend their lead against Posh to 4-0.
Fellaini adds a fourth goal for Everton. Looking good.
Ashley Young has been sent off for Villa for receiving a second yellow. I will be even more difficult for Villa as they have had a fight on their hands against a determined Blades side.
Watford take a 2-1 lead against Hartlepool after being 0-1 down at halftime.
Notts County may be taking down one of the big boys as they lead Sunderland 2-0.
Kamara has a hat trick for Fulham.

Darren Bent's penalty halfs Notts County's lead. Still hope for Sunderland.
Leighton Baines adds to the Everton rout. 5-1
Bolton go one up on York.
Sunderland, Blackpool, and WBA are the EPL teams losing against lower division opposition and Bolton is being held 0-0 by Conference side York at the Reebok.
Forget my comment about the Bolton match as brave York go behind late in the match.
fULHAM LEAD 6-2 AGAINST pOSH.
Hull lead 2-3 at WigAN AND sTILIAN pETROV blasts home a great finish to give Villa a 1-3 lead in the final minute of stoppage time.

Pompey have narrowed the deficit to 2-1.
Reading have defeated West Brom 1-0.
WOW! Burton Albion have defeated Middlesbrough 2-1 with a winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time as Middlesbrough continue their miserable season.
Mowbray unable to clean up after Strachan, again.
SOme upsets in the FA Cup
Sunderland 1 Notts County 2
Southampton 2 Blackpool 0
Brighton 3 Pompey 1
Doncaster 2 Wolves 2 as Elokobi was sent off.
Norwich 0 Leyton Orient 1
Stevenage is hosting Newcastle. The teams met in the fourth round in 1998 where they drew 1-1 at then Conference side Stevenage before Newcastle won the replay 2-1 at St. James' Park. Newcastle made it to the final that year losing 0-2 to the Gunners. I don't expect it to be any easier for the Magpies this time.
Am happily watching Stevenage. My parents live there and I love their ground. A real conference ground! Great to see ESPN giving them some good exposure. Come on you Stevenage.
Simon, you and your parents must be delighted with Stevenage's first half performance as the halftime score is 0-0. Stevenage have been the better team and look more likely to score . They are newly promoted to the Football league and unlike many lower division sides, they are tactically well organized and have decided to play football instead of the route one stuff.
COME ON STEVENAGE!
WOW!!!
Steveange have taken the lead against Newcastle through an own goal by Mike Williamson after poor defending by Danny Simpson.
Stacey Long did well to turn Danny Simpson before his shot deflected off of Mike Williamson's chest for the own goal.
Newcastle have been victims of cup giant killings in the past losing to Hereford in 1972 and Exeter in 1981.
GOAL !!! WHAT A FINISH BY BOSTWICK AS STEVENAGE NOW LEAD 2-0 AS WE HAVE A GIANT KILLING ON OUR HANDS! POOR DEFENDING BY BARTON AND COLLOCINI.
It just gets worse for the Toon as Tiote sent off for a shocking foul. Andre Mariner was left with no other alternative as Tiote will miss the next three fixtures, including the derby vs Sunderland.
This has been a really humiliating day for the Toon and their supporters, but an historical for Stevenage and their fans as I am witnessing one of the great giant killings in FA Cup history. It ranks up there with the loss to Hereford in 1972 and Leicester's loss to Harlow in 1980.
This is the magic of the FA Cup as Newcastle defeated the Hammers 5-0 on Wednesday, but are now losing 2-0 to Stevenage with only ten men.
Phil Airey is on for Peter Lovenkrands as the youngster is hoping to make an instant impact. The Stevenage keeper fumbled a free kick and Kevin Nolan shot the rebound into row Z from two yards out.
Stevenage broke immediately and missed a golden opportunity with just the keeper to beat.
Joey Barton scores a wonder goal from 30 yards out to narrow the deficit to 2-1 a minute into stoppage time.
GOAL!! 3-1 as Stevenage restore the two goal lead straight from the kickoff.A great through ball and Collocini was caught out.
Peter Winn scored the goal for Stevenage.
STEVENAGE HAVE DONE IT AS THEY DEFEAT NEWCASTLE 3-1!
THIS MUST BE THE GIANT KILLING OF THE ROUND!
Sorry I missed out on the action today, lads. I've just arrived in Belize and couldn't be more delighted with today's result. Honors even and now we get the Arse back at our patch for a big pay day.
Cheers!
We're pleased too Bob, I am glad a smalltime club like Leeds Rovers will get a decent payday and help feed the starving players at your club. We also plan on leaving Nicky B up there for you.
Delighted for Stevenage - that was a humiliation. Newcastle were thoroughly shambolic.
Fabulous, we'll take a bit of Bendtner up at the Elland.
The match kicks off from OT and the main talking point is the appointment of Kenny Dalglish as manager and United are awarded a penalty.
Yes!!!
GOAL!!! GIGGS SCORES FROM THE SPOT AS AGGER FOULED DRAC IN THE BOX!
A GREAT PENALTY!
Kenny Dalglish sees his team fall behind in the first minute on his Liverpool return. A great start for United.
Fletch is booked for a physical challenge on Kuyyt.
Kucszak palms away a shot from Maxi, then Rio made a vital clearance, and finally Stevie G shot well over.
Stevie G is sent off for a two footed challenge on Carrick. It just gets worse for Kenny Dalglish as he watches the replay on the television near the dugout. Carrick is still receiving treatment.
Howard Webb had no other alternative due to the nature of the challenge. IMHO.
It is Spurs 0 Charlton 0 at halftime from the Lane.
Jonny Evans headed against the bar off a corner and United lead 1-0 at halftime through an early penalty from Giggs as Agger clipped Drac in the box. Webbie made a key decision by sending off Stevie G for a two footed lunge on Carrick.
The second half kicks off from OT.
Spurs have taken the lead against Charlton. Andros Townsend scored the goal.
Wea Pea heads just wide from a great cross by Fletch.
Spurs now lead 2-0 as Dafoe scored the second Spurs goal.
Ryan Babel is on for Maxi and Jonjo Shelvey is on for Mireles. Now none of Woy's signings are on the pitch. Quite a statement from Kenny Dalglish.
Kruczcsak makes a decent save from Babel.
Anderson is on for Fletch and he immediately fouls Torres just outside the box.Kuzcsak does well to push the free kick from Fabio Aurelio around the post.
Spurs now lead Charlton 3-0 as Dafoe scored his second.
Reina makes a good block from Drac.
It's all United as Reina makes FOUR consecutive saves. The final save was the best as he tipped over from Evra.
Michael Owen replaces Wea Pea as he faces the club where he began his career and scored so many goals.
Torres is replaced by Ngog after a disappointing performance.
Drac heads just over from a great cross by Evra.
Spurs have defeated Charlton 3-0.
United defeat Liversox 1-0 thanks to that early penalty.
Hey David
Sorry for not blogging. The computer was unavailable
Good win but, yet again, not happy with the performance!
The penalty was soft. He was hardly touched. There was a push in the back a little too!
As for the red card, totally deserved! Stuart Robson said that he would have given only a yellow but that is only because it is Steven Gerrard!
The Tractor Boys are losing to Chelsea. Two quick goals!
The Draw for the 4th Round of the Cup

Notts County v Leicester C/Man City
Stevenage v Reading
Aston Villa v Blackburn
West Ham vs Nott'm Forest
Sheff Wed v Wycombe/Hereford
Majstorovic puts Celtic ahead of Rangers, the Berwick ones.
Looks like Everton's up against Chelsea.
Hello Dave,
I agree with you 100%. I think a draw would have been a fair result. The red card was deserved, and now Dalglish will start will not be able to start Stevie G for the next three games. I am happy with the win as it was against Liversox. Kenny Dalglish made quite a statement as Mireles was the only Hodgson signing to start, and he only lasted about an hour.
The Tractor Roys trail 3-0 at halftime.
Not many that jump out at you there
United's trip to St. Marys is a repeat of the '76 Final
The winner of the Battle of Dahlgrens replay will be pleased with a home draw against Huddersfield
Glad that Chelsea, who just went three nil up, have a tough trip to Goodison. That will be the tie of the round!
After only one all Prem game in the 3rd Round, (United Liverpoo),there is
Everton v Chelsea
Villa v Blackburn
Fulham v Tottenham
Bolton v Wigan
Berwick is up against an Old Firm team hoping for a repeat of a famous giant killing from 1967 against Rangers.
I still think United deserved the win more than the draw because LiverSox didn't create much at all
I think United should have had a penalty in the second half with Giggs being brought down. It was during the pinball episode in the box
The Fourth Round will be played on January 29 and 30
Afraid we can't call them the Tractor ROYS anymore!!!
I was looking at the draw for a while trying to find one that grabbed my attention. United should win at St. Mary's and if Leeds win then they will have a derby match against their rival Terriers. I guess Everton vs Chelski is the match of the round. Are you looking forward to that match , Someone? The Toffees drew at the Bridge in November in a match they could have won.
Gerrard's red will make him miss the midweek match at Blackpool, the Merseyside derby next weekend and a trip to Wolves
Was Roy sacked? when did that happen?
Not liking the timing of next week's games
United don't play Spurs until Sunday. Citeh will go top with a win at home to Wolves
With the natch at Goodison I'm definitely looking forward to a rematich of the 2009 Cup final.
SO Kenny returns to Anfield after a TWENTY YEAR ABSENCE. That might be a record .
It should be a competitive match Someone.
Yup, he was canned either Thursday or Friday
I will definitely be rooting for the team wearing blue that day Someone
Me too!
I wouldn't count on a win for United... we have won away from home only twice!!! Could you imagine how far ahead United would be if we had a normal away record??
I thought Roy would be sacked soon. He was underachieving with Ipswich. The match kicks off from the Crisps.
WOW!! Leicester score after 45 seconds off the corner.
Leicester City have taken a first minute lead!!
WOW
44 SECONDS!!!
Bamba gave the Foxes the lead with a well worked short corner as the Citeh defense stood around like a bunch of statues.
Old Firm hero Samaras limps off the pitch, replaced by Stokes. Hope it's just a knock and he's being taken out as a precaution.
The Foxes have a free kick just outside the box and nearly created problems, but the ball just went out of play.
Sven is delighted as he faces his former team and Vassell will be up for this match as he is a former Citeh player. He is returning to England after a spell in Turkey.
If Leicester win then Sven faces a trip to another former team at Notts County. He left after just a few months in charge when he promised to be there for the long term . He could get an interesting reception if Leicester win this match.
I am doing well in my Prem picks but I chose Citeh in both Cup competitions!!
It is a close race as you have a two point lead over four people, include myself.
Chelski now lead 4-0 over Ipswich as Anelka scored.
Chelsea have scored FIVE!
This better not be their kick start!
Now 5-0 to Chelski as Sturridge scores a second.
The Leicester keeper made a great save from a Viera volley off a corner as Citeh start to realize that they are playing a football match!
Did Mancini have a brief spell as a Leicester player?
Celtic lead 0-1 at Berwick at halftime. Hearts vs St. Johnstone has been postponed due to a burst water pipe!
Dunno
1-1.... nice goal by Milner
His first for Citeh
GOAL 1-1 ! MILNER SCORES WITH A GREAT LEFT FOOT FINISH.
Mancini has his white and blue AND and black and red one!! He's a Milan fan?
Mancini played four EPL games for the Foxes in the 2000-2001 season, his final season as a player. He did not score any EPL goals for Leicester. Also, both managers have been in charge of Lazio.
I just noticed that. He will claim that those are Citeh's away colors, but I agree with the Milan reference.
Hart makes a great save from long range.
Hart makes a great reflex save from Bamba off the corner, then Bamba heads the rebound straight to Hart.
Bamaba nearly scores again from a corner as his header is cleared off the line and SWR is down injured as he collided with Hart.
Chelsea now lead Ipswich 7-0 as Lampard scored twice in a minute.
Both teams nearly scored as Andy King tried to chip Hart with just the keeper to beat, then Adam Johnson failed to tap in an easy chance.
GOAL 1-2 TO CITEH AS TEV SCORES WITH A CHEEKY BACK HEEL FINISH AT THE NEAR POST OFF A SHORT CORNER.
There will be two minutes of stoppage time.
Citeh lead 1-2 at halftime at the Crisps, but can thank Joe Hart for a series of great saves.
Chelski have defeated Ipswich 7-0 and will play Everton at Goodison in the fourth round in what should be a much more difficult fixture.
I hope this isn't a boost for Chelsea
As for mangerless Ipswich, next up Arsenal at Portman Road!
I wonder of Ipswich will be on the end of another thrashing or will Wenger play the kids to keep the score down?
Spurs vs United will be on FSC at 11 next Sunday.
Dalglish will be involved in a Merseyside Derby next Sunday. He is in charge for some big matches in his first matches in charge.
The second half kicks off from the Crisps.
Nigel De Jong is on for SWR as Mancini plays his normally defensive tactics. A holding middie on for an attacking player.
Lloyd Dyer shot wide with a decent effort for Leicester.
Scott Brown scores in the 82nd minute as Celtic take a 2-0 lead on Berwick.
That should seal the victory in what was a potential banana skin for Celtic.
Citeh had more problems defending from a corner as Hart punched away a header from Andy King.
Leicester missed another great chance as Jack Hobbs headed over from a corner with a free header.
The attendance at the Crisps is 31,200 . This is definitely an EPL stadium in terms of capacity and design.
There have been no surprise results today after some shockers yesterday. Will there be a giant killing tomorrow as Crawley host Derby County.
GOAL 2-2 AS ANDY KING TIES IT UP FOR LEICESTER AFTER A HOWLER BY HART! Gallagher crossed from the left and Hart fumbled, allowing an easy tap in for King after a great passing move. What a shame as Hart has had a terrific match prior to the goal.
A rare smile for Sven as he would love to get something against Citeh. Leicester deserve to be level for a great battling performance against Citeh.
Celtic won 0-2 at Berwick.
