Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Premiership Transfers - January Window Update

The Premier League transfer window picture heated up today with Darren Bent's 24 million pound move to Villa. At a more modest 3 million pounds, Steven Pienaar added to the already impressive winger roster at Spurs. But Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko is still the biggest transfer of the window at a cost of 27 million pounds for the Emiratis funding Citeh. Keep up with the latest transfers here:

Your thoughts on who will make the biggest impression?

Pienaar can at least afford a warm coat. It's going to be cold seated on the bench at White Hart Lane.

I'm not that bitter, there are many former starting 11 players taking that pay rise to sit on the bench.

Too right SS. I wonder what Pienaar's thinking is when he's competing with Bale and Lennon for his spot.

Which transfer is likely to make the biggest impression? Pienaar? Dzeko? Bent? Nah, it's whichever defender Arsenal bring in to provide cover for Vermaelen who I predict will not be fit enough this season, Squillaci who hasn't delivered on the promise of leadership, organization, or unflappability, or Koscielny who I'm not convinced is best as a centre-back. Whomever it is that we bring in will go immediately into the first team to pair up with Djourou. He'll make an impression and a big one, good or bad.

Yes. I've seen the video from the Japanese high school semi and final matches where he is instantly visible. Very quick, runs with the ball at defenders, and clearly much better than any one else on the pitch. He scored two and set up a tap-in for someone else in the final.

But he looks slighter in build than UWS was as a 12 year old. His legs are toothpicks from the inseam to his feet. He's small even for a Japanese so I don't know how he'll hold up against sociopaths like Shawcross, Robinson, or Taylor. I seriously doubt he'll get a game outside of the reserves.

Pienaar is odd.. unless he is the future Lennon. I am sure Lennon isnt sleeping so easily tonight or is there a move away in the works for him? Spurs fans havent been overjoyed with him as of late.

Bent is a great buy but not good value. Still if it keeps them up good for them. Its their money and he is a proven goal scorer.
I wish they had given us that cash and we could have given them Bendtner but we did get 25 million for Adebayor so i guess we have had our miracle.

I think Darren Bent may be the most influential signing of the January transfer window. Villa will move up the table now that they have a consistent goal scorer. They should finish around tenth instead of being involved in a relegation fight. I don't think Dzeko is as influential as Bent since he is another superstar among superstars. I do not expect Citeh's position to change too much just because he signed with them.
